breaking news right now. the commute comes to a screeching halt. the northbound lanes are still shut down in montgomery county. four tractor trailers and another vehicle were involved in this crash. it shut down the lanes and backed up drivers for miles. one person was hurt. good morning. i'm pamela osborne. we have been watching this accident all morning. jessica, what's it looking like right now? >> it pretty much looks the same. we it blocked down all the way

to quaker town. we were earlier seeing southbound delays there. right now they are diverting all traffic off. it is right around mile marker 31. your best bet to get by will be there for a little bit longer. there were four tractor trailers involved. an injury on the scene, so an investigation underway and a fuel spill as well. there is a massive clean up. you can take route 309. moving over here is 95 around woodhaven road. you can see slow moving maintenance here making all of this traffic ton northbound side merge together into one. we are seeing delays there. watch for some traffic lights that are malfunctioning at fairmount avenue. one last accident on montgomery avenue around price avenue. burglars target a famous

philadelphia store. they broke in where nbc 10 monique braxton has the latest on the investigation. what have you learned, monique? >> reporter: hi. good morning to you. a glass restoration company arrived about an hour ago to dw begin the process of replacing the safety glass. you can see they have boards here to the right that will be put up before the glass -- while the glass is being made. police tell us they responded to an alarm just after 4:00 this morning. when they arrived a mannequin and bumper were on the sidewalk. sources say high-end purses were taken. when we asked how many were stolen we were told no comment. police do say the store does some inventory and they have to determine what specifically was taken and the monetary loss once

the inventory was completed. it is known for custom made mens suits as well as shoes and purses. the store does have an expensive surveillance system. we are told detectives are on their way here to look at that surveillance video tape as a way of hopefully catching the burglars. we'll stay on top of this investigation and keep you posted on what happens after this point. monique braxton, nbc 10 news. new this morning, video of a vandalism in center city philadelphia. police are still looking for this man accused of pulling the brass railing on broad street. you can see the man walking away with the brass railing. police say he was last seen near 15th. here is a look at the damage at the union league. you can see part of the

staircase cru staircase crumbles. they told us what happened just before the 6 foot long railing was taken. >> everything looked normal and about that time you can see him approaching from the side street here. that is when it all happened. >> union league working to track down the theet. if you have any nfgts that could help police out give them a call. also in philadelphia police are looking for a gunman after they found two men shot in the stomach and chest. both victims are expected to survive and detectives will interview them. they believe one of the victims knows the gunmen. duomtwo men are under arres. officers inside of the car were not hurt. it happened at 11th and spencer street just 2:30 this

morning. officers found the suspect's vehicle a few blocks away with drugs inside. in delaware police ticketed the driver of this truck loaded with cows that overturned last night. the truck jackknifed and flipd over around 9:30. only nine of the 15 cows survived the crash. the driver was okay. looking for a man who stole a car with a six-year-old boy inside. the child is safely back with his mother this morning. nbc 10 was there when the boy and mom were reunited. the mom was using an atm when a man jumped into her car and drove off. a good samaritan tack actiook a. >> he probably saw a kid, ripped it over to the side and jumped

out. i got the kid and got him to his mom and he went into the shadows. >> police are looking for any surveillance that may help find the car thief. 10 to 23 months in prison is what kane will be serving. a judge handed down the sentence jedd. kane walked out of jail last night after posting a $75,000 cash bail. in addition to the jail sentence kane also got eight years probation. the law enforcement officer accused of leaking grand jury detail and lying about it under oath. >> she put her own desire for personal revenge above everything else, above the citizens of this state, above the hard working prosecutors and the staff at the attorney

general's office. >> kane asked for mercy saying she feared what would happen to her teen boys if she went to jail. in exactly two weeks voters will use a permanent replacement for kane. he is facing off against. it injured at least six students. a campus officer and police force. this is video of the moment the students were attacked on friday. you can see the mob this far side of the street there. all of a sudden chaos breaks out. two 19-year-old men and a woman were injured. a picture of one of the victims was sent into nbc 10. you can see her face was bruised there. we also spoke with the young woman's father yesterday. >> the fact that they unmercifully pinned her down so many people had beat her, i

can't fathom. my heart dropped. a public safety task force for an upscale neighborhood in philadelphia is now up and running. people packed the church of holy trinity for a meeting last night. officials joined local lawmakers for a question and answer session on boosting safety measures. last week someone shot a good samaritan who tried to break up a robbery. a teenager surrendered to police over the weekend. the victim remains in stable condition. richard ross said safety in and around the park is a top priority.

a chilly and windy start to the day. here is a live look at cape may. nbc 10 first alert chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here with the forecast. >> yeah. we have a lot colder weather than what we saw yesterday. only 54 degrees in philadelphia. we got up to 65 yesterday. nowhere near that today. other parts barely to 50 degrees. we do have clouds in the area as well. no precipitation, as you'll see. the wind 10 to 20 miles per hour. not quite as strong today but atmosphere is a lot colder. it obviously feels cooler. you can feel the effect of the northwest flow. we have the clouds coming down. even a couple of sprinkles up

towards the new york state border, perhaps a sign of things to come. as you go through the rest of the day it's a mix of clouds and sun. no precipitation expected any where. temperature not going up very much. winds will make it feel even cooler. as we go through the night tonight dropping to 40 degrees by 10:00 tonight. so they will be down here, 30 degrees by morning. we have frost and freeze advisories over much of the area tonight that we'll get into as we go into the rest of the forecast. i'll let you know when rain will be coming in this week. at the bridgegate trial more questions are surfacing in the lane closure scandal. a former christie staffer is back on the stand this morning for a third day of testimony. today she is being cross

examined by the prosecution. she testified she told the republican governor about concerns that traffic jams in his city were political pay back. christie denied knowing about the scheme while it was happening. happening today in montgomery county the council will release their plans for police coverage after it voted to disband its police department. they blamed the high cost of the police department which east greenville shares. right now they pay about $600,000. the mayor is looking to pay less than 350,000. pensburg mayor says she will be looking to add another down under the task force. the contract expires in the spring. it is now closing its

residential treatment. sources tell nbc 10 the 17-year-old student became unresponsive as workers tried to restrain him. the school serves students wit with emotional and behavior problems. more signs of negati-- how negative the campaign has become. they visit the home of pat toomey.

voters in pennsylvania will be sorting out what they saw and heard at last night's final debate in the u.s. senate race. pat toomey face off at temple university. candidates went after each other on a series of issues. here is an exchange about jobs and the economy. >> unfortunately senator toomey, if it's not fossil fuel money he's not for it. >> every pennsylvania worker lost their job. pennsylvania taxpayers lost their money. it worked out okay for katie. that's not how you grow an economy. >> polls show a tight race between the candidates. campaign getting more nasty for neighbors. this is new video of graffiti

spray painted on the homes. few homes were hit by the anti-republican graffiti. it happened over the weekend. senator toomey says he is disgusted by the hatred. katie hopes police catch the culprit. well, you can feel that cooler air that has moved in and the lack of sunshine doesn't help. this is a live picture outside our station. a lot of clouds out there. a lot more threatening than it really is. the atmosphere overall is pretty dry. temperatures in the low 50s farther to the north and west. let's see if we have any places in the 40s. yes, we do. this is 49 degrees. bethlehem is 54 degrees though.

we have advisories for frost or freeze across much of the area. frost advisory for southern delaware, extreme south jersey and the philadelphia area. the air temperature goes below the freezing point. it should be the coldest night of the season. one of the things that's going to happen is for the winds to die down. it is gusting over 20 miles per hour in some parts of the area but not quite as windy as we saw yechltd you can see the clouds coming down from the northwest. this is low-level moisture coming across the great lakes. the atmosphere above that is pretty dry. this is the system that's going to be effecting us by thursday and it looks like we are going to get perhaps several hours of rain out of that. here is the futurecast.

we have dry conditions through the day today and into tomorrow afternoon and into most of tomorrow night but here comes a little bit -- this is the pink. this is the mixed precipitation and perhaps a little bit of sleet. it depends how fast this precipitation moves in. the earlier it moves in the better chance it is of snow and sleet. up here that is a little bit of snow and sleet mixed in. you can see a fairly large area of rain coming through just about the entire area during the afternoon. it doesn't move out until thursday night setting us up for a dry and windy day on friday. it sure looks like it is going to be raining on thursday. tomorrow no rain but it's really going to start off cold and redding starting off at 33. look at the highs, barely above

50 degrees even with lots of sunshine. phoenixville starting at 33 degrees. now, this is the first frost of the season in philadelphia itself. 35 in trenton. it is 33 at galloway township. it will be chilly across the entire area. as we go into the weekend we'll be seeing the dry weather friday, a little milder on saturday in most places. chance of showers north and west on saturday and across much of the area on sunday. we'll get more into the details coming up a little bit later. still ahead, game on, a match up of baseball's lovable losers begins tonight. we'll take you to the sight of game one. no two teams have waited to play

welcome back. the rotary club is hosting the first ever fun run this saturday. they want you to be part of the excitement. they are joining us now live to talk about the event. before we get into that i know a lot of people are familiar with the rotary club. tell us about the mission. >> the motto is others above self. it is to improve life in our local communities and worldwide. the rotary club helps out locally and provides books and lit literacy programs. we do scholar ships and do park clean ups continually each year.

breaking news out of maryland. police warning people to stay out of the area of route 213. a witness tells nbc 10 there was a shooting at the motel. there are police with guns drown surrounding the motel. we'll bring you updates as soon as we get them. we are following breaking news as we check back to the nbc 10 head dplines. the northbound lane of the northeast extension are still shut down in montgomery county as crews work to clear up this wreck between landsdale and quak

quakertown. it backed up drivers for miles. police are looking for the burglars who broke into boyd's philadelphia. broken glass and a mannequin were found outside of the high-end store. they say expensive purses were stolen during the break-in. police are hoping this video will help catch the vandal. the man pulled the brass railing from the stairs on broad street. the removal of the railing caused the famous steps to collapse. a chilly day out there as we look live over market street in center city philadelphia. we are in for one of the coldest nights of the season so far. glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here with the forecast, glenn. >> yeah. it is going to be a much colder day and night than what we saw in the last 24 hours.

54 degrees in philadelphia now. a lot of clouds around. barely to 50 degrees with the combination of the clouds and the colder air coming in with a northwest wind 10 to 20 miles per hour wind in most of the area. we have been seeing a few gusts over 20 as well. it allows the clouds to come down from the northwest, generally from the great lakes, but the moisture is limited to the bottom part of the atmosphere. so we don't have rain falling out. it looks kind of threatening. we have a freeze warning in effect for much of the area. for overnight tonight into tomorrow morning the lower part of the temperature this season and frost advisories for cape may county and also in and around philadelphia itself, which is barely going to get above the mid-50s today. watch the temperature drop

tonight as we clear out and the temperature goes down. 43 by 10:00. lehigh valley 40 degrees by 10:00. that means they will be down closer to 30 by morning, maybe even upper 30s if the wind dies down. nobody will be getting any precipitation. that's a different story later in the week. we'll get into the timing of that in a few minutes. four people are dead after an amazement ride malfunctions in australia. one of the rafts overturned today. two passengers were thrown off and two others were trapped by the conveyer belt underneath. the ride had problems earlier in the day. the park is closed while the investigation continues. and caught on camera as you

see there, a building fire explodes in a billow of smoke. this happened last night at a thrift shop in washington. you see the heat from the fire that it caused sending smoke into the air. no one was hurt during the explosion and the cause of the fire is under investigation. now to decision 2016, donald trump is still looking for votes. this is outside of a golf course. trump criticized. it is about 25% for people with disabilities. here is a live look. that's where trump's running mate mike pence is holding a rally. later today pence will be speaking at a university in

a lot of clouds out there now. it looks a lot more threatening than it really is because of the relatively low layer of clouds. it is 54 in philadelphia. the clouds are keeping the temperature down. trenton at 51 degrees. atlantic city 55. when you compare it to this time yesterday we are 8 to 10 degrees colder. that's the way it is going to be tonight too. last night wasn't all that warm. we have frost and freeze advisories. the frost advisories over southern delaware and also philadelphia itself and the freeze warning in purple there until 9:00 a.m. covers all of the area except for philadelphia and those southern areas themselves. the northwest flow bringing clouds and moisture down from

the great lakes. they are getting some flurries around the new york border. it's a sign of things to come. the system effecting us will be bringing rain on thursday. let's show you what's going to happen as we go through the afternoon into the evening. by 7:00 it is already starting to cool down. we have frost in philadelphia by tomorrow morning at 36 degrees. that's at the instrument level. it could be freezing at the ground. that's how you get frost. below freezing in many other areas north and west. during the day tomorrow afternoon even with dry conditions some places might not get out of the 40s. the clouds start to come in at night. it is already pretty cold. so if anything comes in by thursday morning it could be some snow or mixture.
