about his confrontation with staff members. >> courtside drama. the pop star who says the sixers canceled her performance because of the shirt she was wearing. >> announcer: nbc10 news starts now. first flakes. the poconos could soon see the first snow of the season, and that's not all we're tracking for tomorrow. good evening. i'm jacqueline london. >> and i'm jim rosenfield. now, some of our viewers could see freezing rain and depending on where you live, it could affect your morning commute. meteorologist sheena parveen has your nbc10 first alert neighborhood forecast. sheena? >> you know, the poconos will be the area, those higher elevations, where we expect the threat of some freezing rain in the morning. possibly brief wintery mix. we'll be watching for any of that to maybe briefly move into the lehigh valley. but for now, it's mostly the threat in the poconos. what we are watching is this big weather system moving in from the great lakes. it's kind of trailing down, trying to bring a little bit of very light precip close to the

poconos but not too much going on here. it looks like there's a lot, but this is so light, it's probably not touching the ground. as we get a little further north of williams poert, that's where we have snow falling and touching the ground. for monroe county, freezing rain advisory through tomorrow's commute. if you are in the higher elevations, be very careful in the morning. temperatures right now mostly in the 40s. mount pocono, 34 degrees. by tomorrow morning, some showers in the area for the morning commute. more later in the day. make sure you have your umbrella. i'll show you the timing and a weekend warm up straight ahead. new at 11:00, i can't breathe. investigators say those were some of the final words of a teenager who died in a confrontation at school. witnesses say staff members threw punches as they tried to restrain him. >> nbc10's brandon hudson is live at wordsworth academy in wynnefield heights. this say live in school for troubled youth, and now the

students who live there will have to move out. >> reporter: yes, jacqueline and jim. wordsworth academy, this place behind me, is losing its license, which allows children to live here. it's one of several things listed in this 47-page document that sheds more light on this teenager's death along with several other serious violations. when we went to wordsworth academy, we saw some people outside the entrance of this live-in school for troubled youth. but none of them would talk to nbc10. we did meet a neighbor across the street who was shocked to hear about a 17-year-old student's death that happened two weeks ago. >> i've never heard of any problems happening in that facility, and i've been here 15 years. >> reporter: nbc10 was there shortly after the young man's death. in a report from the pennsylvania department of human services, students say three staff members held and punched him because he was acting aggressive. the teen was accused of stealing an ipod. witnesses say they heard him get hit in the chest and say, quote, i can take this. that's all you got? give me more.

i eat those and can take those. followed by, quote, get off me, i can't breathe. then silence. as a result, dhs says it's revoking the academy's license to operate as a child residential facility. a spokesperson for the academy said in a statement, quote, we are saddened by the death of a resident in our facility and are devastated by the allegations brauft against us. we remain committed to our commission of providing education, behavioral health and child welfare services to children and youth experiencing emotional behavior and academic challenges. now, this report also says that three staff members were never properly trained. some of the rooms inside this building were unsanitary, and another staff member had sex with three different children all more than once. the state is working to find a new place to house some of these studentsment live in wynnefield heights. i'm brandon hudson, nbc10 news.

women and young girls victimized in their most private moments. tonight police have arrested a man accuses of using hidden cameras to turn out 15,000 illicit photos. >> investigators say he recorded his victims at villanueva university, even inside a convenience store. these crimes span multiple cities in delaware county. >> aundrea cline-thomas is live outside. how did police find out what was going on? >> reporter: well, it was a student who found the cell phone in a bathroom. she took a closer look and saw that it was actually recording. now, this one clue led police to thousands of images and videos. >> my teacher brought it up right away. she was like, this is the creepiest thing i have ever heard. >> reporter: the third floor bathroom in villanueva's hall, that's where police say 19-year-old vincent cane secretly recorded people using the bathroom, once in april,

five times in september. >> it's kind of small and there's girls in line and boys in line and everyone sharing the same bathroom. >> reporter: during a month long investigation, detectives uncovered even more, including up skirt images from the cvs where cane worked in delaware county and skre recording from card na o'hara high school where cane graduated in 2015. >> we're all creeped out is really the bottom line over here. >> reporter: more than 51,000 videos and images are now evidence, including vield pornography with toddlers. the 19-year-old villanueva part time student lived off campus. when asked for a response, cane's father would only say he's a good kid. the teenager allegedly told police he collected the images and videos for his personal sexual pleasure. >> especially as a woman and on a college campus, you're taught to be careful. i guess now i'll be even more careful walking into bathrooms and just making sure everything looks fine. >> reporter: villanueva students and families at o'hara high

school were notified about today's arrest. cane no longer works at the cvs, and he is also banned from this campus. reporting live in villanueva, aundrea cline-thomas, nbc10 news. new at 11:00, new police body camera video shows the man accused of setting off bombs in new york and new jersey just moments before he allegedly started shooting at police. now, in the video, the officer finds him sleeping outside a bar in linden, new jersey. >> who said he could stay here? what's your name? what's your name? >> he gives the officer a fake name, and he says that he's been evicted from his apartment in perth am boy. the officer can be heard telling other officers to come to the scene. sometime after the video ended, ra himi allegedly started firing at the officers before he was shot and wounded. he's pleaded not guilty in this incident. he's also facing federal charges

for several bombings last month. also new at 11:00, controversy at the 76ers season opener tonight. singer sevyn streeter was supposed to sing the national anthem at tonight's game, but she claimed she was pulled moments before taking the court because of her shirt. >> i'm at the 76ers game to sing the national anthem, and the organization is telling me that i can't because i'm wearing a "we matter" jersey. >> the sixers tell us one of their backup dancers sang the national anthem tonight. the team would not comment directly on why sevyn streeter was pulled. they sent us a statement saying in part, quote, as we move from symbolic gestures to action, we will continue to leverage our platform to positively impact the community, end quote. a black lives matter community forum in germantown tonight focused on uniting law enforcement and communities of color. the ending racism committee of the yeuntarian society of germantown hosted the forum to bring together civic leaders, police, and church members. their goal is to encourage open

lines of communication and build better relationships between police and people of color. to decision 2016 now and the race for president. once again came through pennsylvania today. democratic vice presidentle nominee tim kaine made two stops in our area. he held a rally in newtown, bucks county this afternoon, and tonight he paid a visit to mulen berg college in allentown. his message, get out and vote. >> then the 12 or 13 battleground states, there's usually four or five check mate states. you guys are a check mate state. if we win pennsylvania, we will win the presidency for hillary clinton. >> kaine also pushed for people to vote for other democratic candidates throughout the state. meanwhile, hillary clinton was celebrating her 69th birthday in the battleground state of florida today. she told a crowd in tampa that the best gift they could give her was their early vote. it was the democratic nominee's third event in the state in just the last two days. clinton heads to north carolina tomorrow.

donald trump was already in north carolina tonight. he defended the claim from hillary clinton that he used undocumented workers to build his new hotel in washington, d.c. >> she said i used illegal immigrants to build the building, except i didn't use one for two reasons. number one, i didn't want to. and number two, i'm running for president. why would i -- would i do that? >> earlier today, trump attended the ribbon cutting of the new hotel that bears his name. it's located on pennsylvania avenue near the white house. the republican nominee will be holding three events in ohio tomorrow. thousands of voters in montgomery county are still waiting for their absentee ballots to arrive. despite overtime, they can't keep up with the demand. the county tells us there was a delay in printing the ballots because of a legal challenge to the wording. if you're afraid your ballot won't arrive in the mail on time, you can go fill one out in person. ♪

targeting more than just your phones and computers to carry out their latest attacks. now they're going for the smart technology we increasingly find in our appliances and home security. >> nbc10's drew smith shows us how it works and the one thing which makes you most vulnerable. >> it's one of those smart tvs. >>. >> reporter: marion leary enjoys the convenience of new technology which she can control remotely. >> the apps on our phones, we can get to the television, get to the home security. >> reporter: but that trend has opened up new opportunities for hackers. a massive attack last week took control of millions of innocent people's personal devices and used them to overwhelm a system supporting popular websites like twitter and spotify, cutting off access. how would you know if your device or your computer took part in this? >> typically you don't, and that's why it's so hard to stop and detect these things. >> reporter: drexel university

showed us the computer parts now included in everything from thermostats to baby monitors. it's internet technology easy to compromise because people neglect to change the original manufacturer's password. >> there's a pretty good chance that if you've left the default password, either you have been hacked, or you're going to be hacked. >> reporter: so as your home gets smarter, you need to outsmart the people who want in. it's things like your surveillance cameras and advance garage door openers that you need to watch out for. experts say you should be updating those with security fixes and software updates just like you would a computer or a mobile phone. drew smith, nbc10 news. tonight we need to make a correction to a story we reported last night from montgomery county. the story was about east greenville's desire to leave the police force it shares with pennsburg. we reported that the plan to disband the force was on hold, but in fact the split is still scheduled to happen. nbc10 regrets the error. >> announcer: now your nbc10

first alert weather. >> well, today was a cold day. tomorrow, not as cold but it's still going to be chilly in the afternoon, especially when you throw some rain on top of that. and we will see a rainy day, mostly later in the day. now, as we look farther north and west, higher elevations with that rain getting closer earlier in the morning. the poconos, in fact, have a freezing rain advisory early for tomorrow. the morning commute f you're in those higher elevations, be very careful. we'll be watching closely to see if any of that tries to move into the lehigh valley. if you are in the lehigh valley be aware that you could briefly see some wintry mix there, but that freezing rain advisory will stay in the poconos. then into the weekend, some big changes. believe it or not, we'll be back around 70 degrees after a freezing morning this morning. there's that weather system. it's getting closer, and the edge of it, the leading edge trying to trail into the area but not too much happening here. we don't have a lot hitting the ground. the majority is up by williams

port and continuing to be north of that. i think our best chance of any precip falling in the poconos would be early in the morning shs around the morning commute, and for the rest of the area, the average and evening. there's the freezing rain advisory, carbon and monroe counties. be very careful if you're driving there. here's future weather. 6:30 in the morning, temperatures in the poconos at or below freezing. lehigh valley, mid-30s. that pink showing you where we could see freezing rain, possibly a wintry mix, maybe some areas of sleet. rest of the area above freezing and fairly dry. then as we go through the afternoon, rain spreads, temperatures start to warm up but only into the upper 50s. by 7:30 tomorrow evening, upper 50s, more rain moving through, even through tomorrow night. clearing for your friday. friday morning looking nice and dry with temperatures for your morning commute in the mid-to-low 40s and we keep warming up into the weekend. here's what the temperatures look like. today we got to 53. tomorrow 60 for a high. saturday, 74 for a high.

sunday we're going to be in the mid-60s. going into the weekend for the trick or treaters on monday, so far it does look good. there's your warm-up on saturday. sunday there you see we're back in the mid-60s. trick or treat on monday, we're looking at halloween now. temperatures in the low 60s, so we will be getting a little bit cooler, but i think all that matters is that we stay dry for halloween, which we do look to be staying pretty dry. then we have a couple 70s as we go into next week too. so a couple days where we do start to warm up. then we're going to be dropping back down again with a chance of rain. but for tomorrow, have the umbrella with you and have the jacket. a chilly, rainy one for your thursday. a new center that celebrates jewish culture opened its doors today at drexel university in philadelphia. nbc10 was at the ribbon cutting ceremony for the raymond g perlman center for jewish life. the facility will host shabbat services and dinners along with jewish education programs. a special visit for the catholic community of montgomery

county. a vatican ambassador to the united states came to saint charles seminary in wynwood tonight. this is the archbishop's first visit to a u.s. seminary since he was appointed u.s. ambassador back in april. jimmy fallon takes on the eagles. >> coming up next, how "the tonight show" is getting ready for the sunday night matchup with the cowboys. you out.
