they heard one loud crash, they thought it was a gunshot and then they heard glass continuing to break. at the macy's here just off the boulevard in northeast philadelphia. if you're not looking for it you may not see it. it's between a jewthe jewelry c. three men armed with hammers came into this mall about 2:30 this afternoon, smashed through the jewelry cases and made off with watches. we can tell you the witnesses say it was chaos as that was happening inside that store. >> i was doing my makeup and i was looking to the site and i saw three guys coming with hoodies and they started smashing the counter with the jewelry in it. and everybody was running to where i was saying they were shooting, but nobody really knew what was going on. >> reporter: we're told the people then left the store,

stood outside in the parking lot for about 30 minutes while police went through the store to make sure that those thieves were gone. they traced a tag number and that car is coming back stolen. now new information about the breaking news out of montgomery county, we just found out it could take several hours before you're able to get through to 911 with your land line, we just learned that a contractor hit a piece of equipment that's causing problems with the phone line, and if you call from a land line, you'll just get a busy signal. if you have an emergency, use your cell phone, that, we're told, is working just fine. >> it is a rainy, dreary day across the area. it's not over yet either, people in trend saw some rain earlier

evening, especially from wilmington to philadelphia, you already have the wet roads, and the heavy rain from wilmington to delaware, newark seeing that heavy rain as well. and mostly through the lehigh slal valley. light showers for parts of burks county, up through the poconos where they had some freezing rain earlier. so take your time this evening, but it could be worse, we could be seeing the snow up to our north, we're not that cold, so the snow is going to spay to our north, there you see that big weather system spinning. big temperature contrast, 46 degrees allentown, 59 in dover, look at mt. pocono, 33 degrees. so obviously very close to that freezing mark, we're going to be watching the poconos very closely this evening as well. to see if we could see any areas of freezing rain, but as we go through tonight, we're going to

trump up by 5 points. >> just 12 days until the election, the push for pennsylvania is in full swing. tomorrow former president bill clinton will campaign in redding, burks county. and mike pence is headed to bensalem, bucks county. a judge approved a $265 million settlement for the victims of the amtrak crash and the families of those who died. lawyer who is negotiated the settlement say people will have their portion of that money in hand by june, instead of going through years of legal wrangling. there are 125 cases stemming from the may 2015 start. the crash killed eight people and injured 200 others.

t the philadelphia district attorney's office says it is still investigating and will move forward if there are more developments. the presidential race isn't the only issue driving voters to the polls in atlantic city, look at this? more than 1,000 people showed up at a rally to oppose adding casinos up in north jersey. nbc 10 jersey shore reporter ted greenberg spoke with opponents who say they need to win big. >> how many people will be voting? >> reporter: they brought their passion and dire predictions about what casinos in north jersey would do to atlantic city. >> it would cause more closures in atlantic city and losing a lot of jobs. >> reporter: more than 1,000 casino workers business leaders and elected officials rallied inside boardwalk hall today urging voters to reject this

proposal on the november 8 ballot to allow two casinos in the northern part of the state. >> it is incredible the amount of people that come to north jersey. >> reporter: and you worry they would stop coming? >> i do. >> reporter: the proposal seems to have a lack of support state wide, just 24% of voters are for expanding casinos outside of atlantic city. supporters say expanding gambling would help new jersey better compete with casinos in neighboring states and send money back to pennsylvania. #. >> it's sad to see it pass because i don't know what the alternative is going to be. >> reporter: opponents want the question to go down with a resounding defeat. >> it has to be by 15% or 20% so we're not threatened again with

caseinos again outside of atlantic city. >> reporter: the public mind poll found new jersey voters firmly believe the state already has enough kcaseiinos and that y have caused harm to atlantic city. another issue on the new jersey ballot that ted's familiar with there, anybody from new jersey including both of us, that new gas tax. no matter what, the tax is going to go 23 cents this tuesday november 1. but on election day, voters get to decide how that extra money is spent. governor christie wants to pay for transportation projects, but the lieutenant governor is pubically opposing that idea. cydney long explains why. philadelphia city council is urging both the union and management to make a deal and fast. >> all those in favor say aye.

into the evening too. make sure you keep the umbrella, the snow is going to stay way to our north. now we're looking in parts of northern delaware, painsville, wilmington showing some yellow, i-95 up to 295. easton township, gloucester and this is going to keep moving through new jersey and make its way to the shore. now we're looking at the pennsylvania suburbs. lehigh valley up into the poconos. mostly widespread light rain with some embedded heavier showers, upper bucks county and also near the allentown area, some pretty good rain coverage there. we have been seeing this all afternoon, we're not looking at any flooding concerns, but those temperatures are cold especially the farther north you go, and

obviously we have freezing temperatures here with snow, but that is going to stay to our north, we're not going to see anything but rain tonight. very close to freezing in the poconos. should be staying above freezing, though, we had some freezing rain earlier in the poconos, right now though in philadelphia, 58 degrees, 59 addition in dover. 46 in allentown. now the rain will be clearing late tonight, more like around midnight. the overnight hours, we will start to see some clearing. then we go into your halloween monday, it's going to be a little cooler for halloween, a little chilly, but dry for the trick-or-treaters. by 9:30 tonight, temperatures still mostly in the upper 60s, rain starting to taper off, moves out near midnight.

poconos, those higher elevations got cold enough to see some freezing rain, but right now in the poconos, we're mostly just seeing those cold conditions. so just rain through cape may county, we have some heavier rain moving through the delaware area up to vineland and closer to the philadelphia area and wilmington, we have some rain moving into camden, new jersey, waterford, but the rain in philadelphia has lightened up a little bit. it's still pretty steady, still looking at some steady light rain here. some pennsylvania suburbs and a few areas of more moderate rainfall. so the rain is going to continue for the of trest of the evening. 58 degrees in delaware, new jersey low 50s.

areas. >> erika martin headed for one of the coldest spots this afternoon. it is cold there, erika? >> reporter: earlier this year, we asked viewers what they wanted in their forecast and they all said they want their neighborhood weather. today's probably a perfect example of why. i'm in downtown bethlehem and temperatures today started off in the low to mid 30s, so a lot of the precipitation changed over to freezing rain. conditions farther south were 10 to 20 degrees warmer. philadelphia mid 50s for you. and farther south, you're talking mid 60s. it was a brisk out the door start here in bethlehem with temperatures that were approximately 10 to 20 degrees
