talk about a close call. mike pence speaks out. police think a smash and grab at a local department store is linked to another similar heist in our area. we begin with breaking news out of delaware downty. an accident on the track. two csx trains head on. the crash happened in chester township. matt delucia is live from the scene. he has been gathering new

information all morning long. what's the latest. >> reporter: this is as close as we can get to the crash. the bad news, quite a mess to clean up. you see the two freight trains and see where it happened this morning. they colluded on the same track. crews are trying to clean it all up. one train was coming from virginia. four crew members total on both trains. one had just tempty cars and if other was carrying consumer goods. we have been talking the woman people around the area who heard this crash. >> it was like a big loud boom.

you could hear it. it just -- it sounded like somebody was coming in. it was like a shake almost to a house. >> reporter: according to csx it happened at a track interlocking. it would be to the right of your screen about a quarter mile up the track there where we are talking about here. what exactly what happened to cause this crash? that is the big question. they had that area cordonned off. they are try to go move in heavy equipment to move the trains off of the track or get them back in position so they can get this area cleared out. we'll see you back at 11:30 with an undate on the investigation.

route 1. you can get to route 132. also traffic can access pa or get back to new jersey. it will be your best bet for now. avoiding that situation is the way to go. in havertown catch for an accident. lastly we are checking with the atlantic city expressway. this afternoon mike pence will be in bucks county for a campaign stop. she back on the rail despite his plane scare last night. he described it as quote ten seconds of unternty. the plane fish tailed and swerved. emergency crews evacuated all of them. the plane didn't hit anything

a gun battle between police and a man an a motorized bike. police exchanged fire with the man after he crashes his bike and takes off. an officer is grazed on the side of the head by a bullet. the suspect was shot several times and he is now in stable condition. we have new developments in the fight against isis in iraq. people living in a village near mosul crowded the streets to greet soldiers. a massive operation to drive isis out of mosul.

you have wind. current wind gusts 26 miles per hour in town. philadelphia 31. the radar and satellite showing some of that great lakes moisture starts coming down. we are not expecting any precipitation with that. a lot of clouds around even in chicago. the winds will be blowing out pretty strong for that game tonight. we are not expecting any rain. here is that northwest wind flow. as we continue to go through the night tonight we are watching a front coming down from the north. it will push temperatures up to near 70 degrees. as long as the front stays to our north even on sunday we are going to have a west wind and warm weather but there could be a few showers developing with that front as we go through late

they have got some of those bulldozer equipment here and looks like they are bringing in crane equipment here on the other side. right behind all of that you can see the two trains where they collided right there but 4402 and 5,000 were right there on the same track. the crews have been trying to clean all of this up. csx owns both of the trains. it happened before 8:30 this morning. four members were on the train. one had empty cars and the other was carrying consumer goods. no hazmat situation out here. we were talking to folks around here at the time. they heard this loud bank. >> it was a loud -- it was a long loud metal crash. you could tell it was a metal crash. it sounded like a bomb actually.

>> reporter: this collision happened near concord road here in chester. so from the angle that you're looking at here that would be where this locomotive here was coming from. it is about a quarter of a mile up the track in that direction here. the big question remains, how did this happen in we are waiting to get more information from csx. the chief issue right now is trying to get these two trains off of one another. it almost came off the tracks and jumped up. it will be quite an effort for the next several hours. we brought that in to get that train all off of there. minor injuries.

echoing reports that trump's campaign is trying to discourage young people and african americans from voting. >> that's not our operation. donald trump and i want everybody american to vote in this election. >> long lines are already forming in early voting states. states like florida where the presidents will be campaigning today for clinton. a new report that at the top of her short list for secretary of state is vice president joe biden. nbc news, washington. officials are performing kus mare inspections of voting machines. they are out checking their machines. the public check is usually held ten days before they are delivered. it's being done 11 days out. we told officials updated ballots and tested the machines that they work properly. all candidates are invited to

watch the inspection. in bucks county they debated each other. it covers part of montgomery county as well. they are trying to edge out for the job. brian's brother has been there and is retiring this year. you can count on nbc 10 for complete 2016 coverage from updates from the campaign trail. just tap the nbc 10 app. we have details. police believe a smash and grab at the macy's in philadelphia is connected to a similar crime in center city. they both happened this week. they suspect the same team of thieves is behind both crimes.

we'll tell you more about it. >> reporter: it is a silver mercedes sedan that was spotted on chest net. witnesses plagued here. that is the very reason the major crimes unit of philadelphia police is taking over this investigation. it was 2:30 thursday when three men ran into the my si's here. one of them smashed the jewelry cash for the hour. we are told the surveillance cameras recorded the robbery but police have not released it. we one walmart saw and heard the commotion. >> they started smashing the counter and everybody started panicking.

they broelk the glass. it was like five minutes. >> reporter: detectives are working to secure that. it is something that could help police identify the suspect. they credit alert witnesses for writing down the license plate number of the get away car. that is how police were able to make the connection. it shows people inside of that same vehicle running in tlhroug a broken out window stealing $45,000 worth of merchandise there. police were looking far silver mercedes. it was last seen going south on roosevelt boulevard. the car and crooks could very well be connected to more robberies in the area. we are asking the phillies

this crash happened on east lincoln highway. nobody was hurt. we'll continue to watch this and we'll keep you posted. the other breaking story, two csx trains crashed head on right at green street this morning. officials tell us they are investigating the cause. it will be happening throughout the day. here is what we know. one of the trains was hauling empty cars and the other carrying freight containers. we know four people were taken to the hospital. >> twitter pulling the plug on vine. it shows 6 second videos. many have jumped ship for more profitable pastors. some think instagram may have lead to vine's demise. vine answer never made any money

are so stressed out. >> there has to be some type of engagement. it gets people back into the election. people who may be frustrated it gives them a moment to look at it from a different point of view. >> yeah. and we try ourselves on being equal opportunity offenders. no matter how our politics lean we have to get both sides. it is to all sit together and laugh together about common things, which is helpful. >> and i'm sure you have seen snl's parody of the candidates, your take on that? >> i don't think we can -- we find ourselves making jokes.

be bethany beach almost 260 degrees. some places are going to get well into the 60s today. the northwest wind will make it feel a little bit cooler. this is into the upper midwest. we see these northwest winds keeping things cool but the window direction is going to change as we get into tomorrow. look at this. there is tomorrow afternoon. now we have a southwest wind. it will warm us up significantly. this cold front is going to put an end to that. it's not coming down fast enough to cool us off on sunday. it's going to be stretching warmer on sunday than saturday.

we are showing you a different computer model. this is one that actually does show some showers with that cold front sunday late in the day and into the evening hours. so some trick or treating on sunday could possibly be involved with showers. that's why we have the possibility here. look at these temperatures going up. many places into the 70s except for the lehigh valley on sunday. and for halloween itself the sunsets at 6:00, so it totally dark at 6:30. expect it to be cooler than what we are going to see over the weekend but it's going to be dry and not especially windy. there are those milder temperatures for saturday and sunday. then monday we cool down for

are spread in hospitals identified a surprising potential culprit. that is at 4:00. before we leave you for now glenn "hurricane" schwartz has cool weather to talk about. >> yeah. high school football tonight will be chilly heading out into the stands. temperatures dropping into the 40s and 30s in some parts of the area by late this evening. then tomorrow after that chilly start the southwest winds come in and temperatures really jump. our average high this time of year is 63, so the weekend is going to be unseasonably mind. sunday looks to be even warmer than saturday especially in the morning hours. saturday low of 40. sunday low of 57. we also have the chance of showers late sunday into sunday evening. it's just a chance now and then we cool down on monday for halloween. at least it's drier.
