and trains every day. that means those people having to find alternate ways to get home tonight. >> how this strike is costing people extra time and money, but we begin with brandon hudson at 30th street station. >> reporter: right before our live report, i went over and talked to people waiting in a long line for a taxi across the street. people say they have been waiting for 20, 30 minutes just to get a taxi. they normally take septa, but that line is also too long. we want to show you video of where the action is inside. we saw a bigger police presence than usual. we learned a ed amtrak and sept police are experiencing delays. at the septa entrance, long lines of passengers formed in the last hour. and regional rail trains are the

only ones working during this strike. one passenger told us she didn't feel like waiting in that long line, so she left. >> i actually was in line, but i had to leave and i am just going to have my husband come and pick me up, because it will be quicker that way. >> reporter: how long were you waiting? >> probably 20 minutes and i think the 5:00 norristown was just pulling up and there was no way i was getting on. there were just too many people ahead of me. >> reporter: jim and jacqueline, i heard you all talking about the delay here at the septa regional rail, we do see one or two trains that are over to my left that they are still stalled out there on the platform. we'll see if we can get an update on that, we'll continue following this story during the day for the latest update. reporting live at 30th street

>> cydney long joins us from spring garden. i know you found someone who said the strike is already making their commute longer and it's also costing them a lot more money? >> reporter: not just someone, almost everyone we talked to, whether they rely on bus, trolly or subway, they're having to leverage their time, but also leverage their purse strings. >> i have to be to work at 6:00 in the morning so i usually catch the 5:30 bus so this morning i had to catch a cab. >> students and commuters rely on the bus. >> reporter: but right now he can't rely on septa, so instead of spending the normal $2.50 on bus fare, he spent $10 on a cab.

and this college student droe her car and she spent $10 to park blocks away from the community college. she usually shells out $5 a day for septa bus fare. >> it's like a half hour walk now, instead of like a 10-minute bus ride. it sucks, but there's nothing else i can do. >> reporter: caraway his daughter who was a superhero for halloween are trying to find the strength to get through this septa saga. >> you have to talk about people with disabilities who can't move around as much and it's starting to get cold, nobody wants to be on foot. >> reporter: and you can see philadelphia police have been directing the traffic, both the cars and the bicycles and pedestrians here at broad and spring garden, considering the nice weather, commuters today relied on friends and co-workers to get from point a to point b. they also use those ride share bikes and also their two feet to

get where they're going. they hope this septa gridlock comes to end soon. >> if you're waiting on a loved one to get home, they may be a little late. >> we're watching big backups on the roads and we'll get to that in just a second. we're also watching of course the septa regional rails and they just tweeted a moment ago that crews are back in position to run those trains. so we're still seeing those delays, kind of on a ripple effect now doylestown lines, 60 minute delays, due to massive volume, extra passengers and overflow. there's a lot of waiting and reported hour delays even on the platforms and boarding the trains. so we're seeing major delays all

over the place and a lot of that overflow spills on to the roads, maybe they have to take uber, lift or-everything moving in and around and out of center city, 9-mile-per-hour moving north or southbound. and past 20 minutes, nbc 10 has learned a new contract offer was made to the union and the union saying the offer had almost no changes. so this strike will move into the night. and there's growing concern this could even affect election day. it could affect elderly voters get to their election voting place. philly's mayor says that decision is up to septa and the courts. >> i'm not going to speculate on
