right now on "nbc 10 news today," up well into the night, septa leaders and officials from ç biggest union spent hourst the bargaining table but say there is still no deal on a new contract. preparing for the worst. regional rail riders and commuters who turn to the trains as their only septa travel option spent the first day of the strike stuck in long line and even longer delays. ponding the pavement with septa buses, subways and trolleys out of service, riders are getting creative by walkinging to and from work no matter how far their route takes them. nbc 10 breaking news. this is "nbc 10 news today." i'm tracy davidson. >> i'm vai sikahema. our live team coverage of the septa strike and how it is impacting your commute this morning continues in just a moment. but first, let's get right to

meteorologist bill henley who has the neighborhood forecast. is there fog in some places? >> it's a warmer morning. the warm air is bringing in moisture, not much fog, zero fog in this view looking across the delaware. we are seeing the formation of some light fog in some of the suburbs. visibility is under four miles which isn't bad at all. i expect it to thicken as the temperatures cool down a bit. light fog in soj jersey, under three miles an hour in millville. pretty good visibility to start with at least in wilmington. i'll be watching that threw the morning. temperatures dropped into the 40s and 50s but overall, we're running 10 to 15 degrees warmer than yesterday morning. 52 degrees in philadelphia. 46 degrees in the lehigh valley. with sunshine, heading for a beautiful fall day into the low 70s this afternoon. i'll go through each of the forecasts hour by hour when i come back in less than ten minutes. >> see you then, bill. it is day two of the septa strike.

contract talks resume later this morning after breaking off at around 1:00 this morning. septa reports both sides continue to make progress. the walkout by bus drivers and trolley and subway operators started yesterday. the regional rails are running. septa warned riders to expect more delays çtoday. septa went to court to seek an injunction. that begs the question, how are things running so far this morning. >> let's find out with first alert traffic reporter jessica boyington. >> so far, we're not seeing delays, of course, it's still early for that. we'll show you why. in case you didn't hear most of this yesterday, the subways, buses, trolleys, the market frankford line and the broad street trolley. 10, 11, 13, 15, 34 and 36, all have access to center city, that was givinging us the problem with the strike in effect. the regional rails are in service and were in service yesterday. we were seeing massive delays

with the overflow of people trying to get around. there were people on strike around the regional rail stations not allowing trains to move out of the train station. we were seeing major overflow on to the major highways. the vine street expressway not dealing with much. we also don't have that construction tieing it up between the schuylkill and the broad stre broad street. this is over in new jersey in mt. laurel township, a tractor-trailer fire reported on the northbound side of the new jersey turnpike, exit 4, which is route 73. vai? >> today marks day two of the septa strike. >> septa and leaders from its biggest union walked well into the night but walked away from the bargaining table without a deal. matt delucia is live outside callowhill depot in west

philadelphia with more on the late-night negotiations. matt? >> we were here yesterday morning and the striking septa workers are back on the picket line once again. they're among the nearly 5,000 who walked off the job a little more than 24 hours ago. negotiations as we mentioned continued into the evening and septa says theyç and transport workers union loge 234 continue to make steady progress, progress toward reaching an agreement on a new contract. as jessica mentioned at one point during the evening rush, picketers started interfering with regional rail service. things got hairy. a judge stepped in to stop there. congressman bob brady stepped into the negotiating process, the big issues really long have been health care and pensions. but last night brady told us he is concerned about this stretching into election day. >> i'm worried about people not being able to get to the polls because they have to allow extra time to drive their kid to

school or drive themself to work. >> septa made an offer to the union around 5:00 last night. the union rejected that offer. talks are expected to resume this morning. we'll hear from the mayor and the governor at 4:30. they want this to end just like the hundreds of thousands of riders and passengers who depend on the service and are once again this morning left to find another way to get where they need to go. west philadelphia, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. regional rails are expected to be packed again today. this video from suburban station showing the trains not working because striking workers caused dela dela delays. no buses or trolleys working. more people are riding the regional rails. it's frustrating for commuters who wa the to get to and from work. >> i actually was in line but i

less than a week to go until election day, republican presidential nominee donald trump will make several stops in florida today. democrat hillary clinton will visit arizona and nevada. a new franklin & marshall poll shows hillary clinton has a double digit lead in pennsylvania. clinton with ç49%, trump has 3. donald trump's daughter, tiffany trump will stump for her father in our area today. this is video of them making a surprise stop at the wawa in king of prussia yesterday. tiffany trump spent a lot of time in our area. she graduated from the university of pennsylvania in may. today she will make stops in campaign offices in philadelphia, montgomery, chester and delaware counties. tiffany joined trump and running mate pence. pence promised the crowd there if he eekted he would repeal obamacare and replace it. later in the day, trump rallied

in wisconsin where he had this message for anyone voted for hillary clinton in early voting and is now experiencing what he called buyers remorse. >> if you live here or in michigan or pennsylvania or minnesota, those four places, you can change your vote to donald trump will make america great again. okay? >> pennsylvania does not allow early voting. most people who qualify to vote by absentee ballot had to have submitted an application for that ballot by yesterday's deadline. in presidential election years like these, those ballots are due by the close of the polls on election day. as we mentioned earlier, hillary clinton will head out west after she campaigned in the battleground state of florida. clinton held three rallies across the sunshine state. clinton and trump are neck and neck in the polls in florida. she's been focusing less on defending herself from the fbi

this afternoon. a little bit of a southwesterly breeze at 6 miles an hour at noontime, we'll stay with us this afternoon. plenty of sunshine, a gorgeous day ahead for the suburbs, too. 48 degrees right now. 49 at 8:00. look at that temperature rise, by 2:00 this afternoon, 68 degrees. with clear skies, it's dropped into the 40s in the lehigh valley. 46 degrees and it will quickly warm into the low 60s by noon and then low 70s even in the lehigh valley. new jersey in for some sunshine today. clear right now, 47 degrees, any clouds would be just thin, high clouds, mainly sunny, 58 degrees at 10:00, then shooting through the 60s, topping out in the low 70s this afternoon. the shore, it will be a beautiful sunny day. 47 degrees right now, into the 60s by 10:00 a.m. and then upper 60s this afternoon. for delaware, a bit warmer this afternoon, after a cool start, 49 degrees, not as cold as yesterday. we'll see low 50s by 8:00 and then warming through the 50s

philadelphia commuters face another day of headaches as we move into day two of the septa strike. contract talks resume later this morning after breaking off at around 1:00 this morning. it's about three hours ago. septa reports both sides continue to make progress. the strike shut down buses, trolleys, as well as subways. the regional rail are running. septa warns commuters to expect more delays today. commuters are getting creative when itç comes to finding alternatives to riding septa. >> you do what you have to do, right? some people are just walking to where they need to go. one man we caught up with walked seven miles yesterday. obviously it's cheapest option but it's tiring. >> really, really bad. my feet are hurting. i have to walk right back, i guess. try to look at something positive today, man. it's just crazy. >> look for a silver lining. we checked with taxi drivers. they say they are staying busy but that is a more expensive option, obviously.

it costs anywhere from 10 to 40 bucks for ride sharing programs like uber or lyft. if you decide to take your car, you better get to the parking garages early, because they fill up fast. >> has it been busier today? >> of course. more traffic. more cars in the parking lot. >> the total cost at this garage for a day is $40. another choice you need to decide on early. also grabbing an indigo bike, they cost 4 bucks every half hour but do disappear fast. now to a developing story in china. rescue teams say all 33 coal minors trapped in a gas explosion earlier this week have been found dead. two minors survived the monday blast. rescuers working around the clock found no others alive. they recovered all the bodies. chinese officials have ordered an investigation into the blast and vowed to punish those potential. and new details about the final moments of doomed malaysia

airline flight 370. a in you report by investigators suggest no one was controlling the plane when it plunged into the ocean in 2014. it's believed the plane ran out of fuel and dove at a high speed into a remote patch of the indian ocean off western australia. only pieces have been found so far. 239 people were on board. >> it is 4:18 right now. 52 degrees outside. the national transportation safety board isç joining polic to investigate this crash in maryland involving a school bus and commuter bus. six people were killed. no students were on board the school bus when the crash happened just outside of baltimore early yesterday morning. investigators say the school bus first hit a car, then slammed into the commuter bus. the school bus driver was among those killed. ten other people were hurt. new this morning, pennsylvania prisons are making it easier for families to see their loved ones without ever going inside the prison. it's a virtual visitation.

those who are hitting the roads, going out early, i think you're in luck. >> check the schuylkill expressway, though. jessica, when you laugh like that, it's never a good sign. >> vai, easy on that delivery. >> we're starting on the schuylkill expressway, cameras around university avenue. a construction project is active, closing the westbound side. you can see part of the beginning of the construction crew that is moving cars over to the right-hand side, then it's closed and traffic is diverted off. again, that's the schuylkill expressway headed westbound. let's get you around that.ç @( we have until about 5:00 in the morning before that part is cleared out of the way. at least that construction project. this is where it is over here, the university avenue area. that's where the closure starts. if you're heading up 95 northbound, get on to the vine street expressway, headed westbound and jump back on to the schuylkill expressway westbound that way. watching mt. laurel township for a tractor-trailer fire, taking out the right lane on the northbound side of the new jersey turnpike around route 73 which is exit 4, vai and tracy.

4:20. bill henley is here. a little bit of fog in some places. >> i'm watching that. we could see fog develop this morning as warm air surges in the area. for the warm air, they're already feeling it in camden. temperatures much warmer than yesterday. 40s, no sign of the 30s, the lehigh valley, the suburbs and delaware. much warmer in south jersey and philadelphia. 352 degrees at the airport, upper 40s in chestnut hill, brewerytown is 53 degrees and fox chase is 53. we're going to see a warmer start and a warmer afternoon. we were right at 60 degrees yesterday afternoon. but look at this. 12 degrees warmer today. 72 degrees in center city. somerton and chestnut hill, doylestown up to 72. look at the bright sunshine for the suburbs and the lehigh valley. a few scattered clouds but a pretty quick warmup into the low 70s for easton today. and in new jersey and at the shore, sunny skies, a few thin

clouds at times in ocean city. 69 degrees. no sign of any wet weather today. low 70s for new jersey and in delaware, a beautiful, sunny day. really a lovely fall day today. it's part of a warming trend that will continue tomorrow. we start turning warmer and go even warmer tomorrow. but tomorrow we'll likely be tracking some showers. those will be coming in from the west and will bring an end to this warm spell. that will happen before the weekend arrives. satellite andç radar, we're in the clear right now. look at the clouds and the showers. this is a system we're watching for later tomorrow. we'll get a lot of sunshine an a big warmup tomorrow before the showers arrive. 70s this afternoon, 78 degrees tomorrow. the record is 80 degrees. we'll get close to that. that's after a morning low of 56 degrees. 58. here comes the cool weather. it's right back into the area on friday. once that cold front passes by, the winds will start picking up and that drives in the chillier air which is going to stay with us into the weekend. very low 60s on saturday.

trees and also new furniture. 52 degrees outside. new jersey rejected a turnaround plan to fix atlantic city's financial problems. governor chris christie's administration announced yesterday it would not accept the proposal. it call for laying off 100 workers, cutting spending and selling vacant land. those moves would help the city pay off $500 million in debt. now, a takeover would givuç the state control of the struggling city's finances. atlantic city mayor don guardian and marty small released a statement saying in part we are truly disappointed that the state did not recognize the value of this thoughtful and comprehensive plan. this plan was reviewed by many who are deeply respected in the financial community and deemed as a truly viable alternative to a stay takeover. the state truly missed a golden opportunity. >> happening today, pennsylvania

will have more weapons in the battle against heroin and opioid addiction. governor tom wolf will sign legislation strengthening the prescription drug monitoring program. that program restricts the number of pills prescribed to minors and given out in emergency rooms. it will provide better education about safe prescribing and create more locations where you can drop off old prescription drugs. hundreds turned out last night for the festival of lights, the celebration of culture in center city. ♪ comcast asian-pacific americans employee resource group observed diwali. nbc 10's harry hairston hosted the event. diwali is one of the biggest hindu festivals celebrated every fall. comcast is the parent company of nbc 10. christmas is less than two months away. >> that means that the time is running for the u.s. capitol

christmas tree's journey. there is this year's capitol christmas tree. the 80-foot spruce is the second u.s. capitol tree to come from the state of idaho. look at this, workers will cut down the spruce with a traditional cross-cut saw this year. >> love that. >> one, we thought it would be kind of cool. the other thing is, it's going to be quiet. we're not going to have thatç chain saw noise and it's going to be slow. we have safety on our side. >> that's how you should look if you work for the forest service, have a beard, looking like paul bunyan. then you have to wield that saw right there. after it's cut, the trip will make a 3,000-mile trek cross country. >> there's one day after halloween, christmas is everywhere.
