and also in 2008 when president obama won big against john mccain. and in chester county, hillary clinton got 53% and trump 47%. president obama in 2012 and in 2008, president obama gained a lot of ground here in bucks. a big win for donald trump, 10 percentage points there, and he also won big right here. and in the lehigh valley, hillary clinton holding a slight lead and then when it was all said and done, nbc news projected donald trump winner of pennsylvania's 20 electoral votes. o republican speaker of the house paul ryan says speak sir

everything is starting to clear by about 9:00, 10:00 p.m. plenty of sunshine in the forecast, but we do have cooler temperatures in the works. notice the lehigh valley not much going on right now, not very organized, those rain showers continuing to move to the southeast. temperatures mainly in the 50s and coming up, i do have the 10-day on 10. check this out, an historic old mill in wilmington has burned to the ground. >> unbelievable images, firefighters are still on the scene putting out hot spots at the bancroft mills building. >> reporter: it lit up the wilmington sky in the middle of the night, a quick spreading fire in five buildings in the historic but abandoned bancroft

mills building. there was a fire here two years ago, he says this site should be locked up much tighter to keep people from sneak iing around bk there. >> there are no lights so people pretty much feel free to move afternoon as they like. >> we are investigating all leads and pursuing all avenues. >> reporter: an arson task force is investigating this fire to see if this fire was intentionally set. 58 fire crews from all over the region came to help. the tricky part was getting water down to this fire scene. the good news is the mill, it hangs literally over an unending su source of water. we were there as wilmington firefighter pumped water out of the brandy wine to get water to keep this fire from spreading to

buildings on either side of the mill. >> lit probably burn for another day or two. now to our coverage of donald trump's victory. plus, marijuana is now legal in more places, voters give pot the green light in several states, including one in the northeast. plus it has been a roller coaster ride on wall street, a financial expert will join us to see what you can expect from a change in power in washington.

for months we have talked about pennsylvania being a key battle gountd state. here's a look at the final vote totals in pennsylvania. mitch blacher is checking into what may have slowed some of that reporting. >> it was after midnight before enough of the vote was counted for the experts to finally call pennsylvania. while most of the vote is in, there's still about 30 precincts state wide still finalizing their results. john garcia watched the election

results late into the night. he saw long lines in philly and chester could have been. we all saw voters holding their place in line so they could cast their vote long after the polls closed. into the american, america's political spotlight beamed on pennsylvania, the presidency and senate in the balance. even now in philly, roughly 20 districts still haven't reported numbers. from harrisberg those in charge of numbers and reporting to the state, they say it's normal for some precincts to be unreported despite the election being calmed. >> it was certainly a busy election, but for a busy election, it felt very normal. >> reporter: montgomery county, officials noticed a glitch early. >> our team started doing what they used to do before we had

that website, which is count the ballots by hand. >> john garcia told us the line and wait for results are not what he'll remember most about this election. >> i have never seen anything like this in my life and hopefully we'll never see anything like this again. >> now we did learn around 11:00 last night that state officials had to start manually entering the results from county websites so they could be reported more widely. the state officials said they had teams entering the numbers where one team would type and another one would be sure what was being entered was accurate. and senator pat toomey is headed back to washington for a second term. toomey and mcginty were neck and neck most of the night, and in the end there are about 100,000 votes separating the candidates.

it's the most expensive race in senate history. in the race for delaware's only congressional seat, democrat lisa blount rochester. rochester becomes the pittsburgh woman and first african-american from delaware elected to congress. turning now to our first alert weather, hopefully people remember to bring their umbrellas today. >> it's a rainy picture out here behind us, at least across the delaware in center city. erika martin joins us. >> we do have some more hours left, by 9:30, 10:00, everything starts to improve. if you looks at the bottom of your screen, you will see your neighborhood forecast, meanwhile the satellite image is picking up on darker greens and yellows, indicating we still have heavy rain from the northwest to the

southeast not much going on right now, very broken precipitation here, otherwise the lehigh valley not seeing much rain. otherwise clearing as a high pressure system really takes control. otherwise rainfall totals for today, west mt. airy under a half an inch of rain. again, if you look at the bottom of your screen, you will see your local neighborhood forecast, weather headlines include rain and fog clearing by about 9:30, 10:00 p.m. tomorrow a chillier start, a breezier start but certainly a bright spot in the forecast. a live look outside, we do have some showers and fog developing as. and hour by hour, echoes that

a big winner in the election

last night was the -- massachusetts is the first state on the east coast to approve such a bill. four of the western states have already passed similar laws, florida and south dakota also legalized medical marijuana last night. however the drug still remains illegal under federal law. market futures plunged last night on word of donald trump's upset victory. the nasdaq and s&p 500 also jumped attorney a full percentage point, many attribute the gains to president trump's victory speech last night. here's how the stocks closed the day, the dow finished up 256 points, the nasdaq jumped 57 points and the s&p 500 was up 23. >> we know you have questions about your money with a new leader coming to the white house. >> rob, the market was down 800

points while those results were coming in, but it did rebound today, what does all of this mean for us? >> look, i think it's important to note the market was already down for eight straight days before this election. so i think the investors were already on edge, and when the returns started to be opposite what the polls said they were going to be, investors got nervous. but as the night wore on, the results became more apparent, there wasn't going to be a tr t terrorist attack, there wasn't going to be a recount, they really got back to buying and selling as usual. >> what effect if any will this have on the markets? >> the republicans pulled a hat trick to a hockey term ow. they have got the white house,

they have got the house and senate. and that's when president obama passed his signature legislation, the affordable care act, when you're in charge of all three of those branches, that means you can get something done in the white house. >> between now and inauguration day in january, is there any way to expect more volatility? or can we expect some stabilization. >> instability doesn't always mean that the market goes down, sometimes go s it goes up as we. there's still some questions about the policies that are going to be impmented so we're going to have to wait and see. >> all right coming up next at 5:30, now becoming a security nightmare. >> the spectacle outside donald

rainy rush hour out there. as you can see, the schuylkill express way jammed up. how long will this rain stick around? >> nbc10 first alert meteorologist erika martin is watching the radar in your neighborhood. >> we do have an improvement on the way, i would say about 9:00, 10:00 p.m. if you look at the bottom of your screen, you will see your neighborhood forecast. we see a break in the clouds and a break in the fog. by 9:30, 10:00 p.m., you'll certainly see an improvement there, we're not seeing any organized showers here, everything is starting to break apart. locally here we're still seeing some pockets of darker green, otherwise we're still seeing some improvements there. keep in mind temperatures are

trump won with a lead of 10 percentage points. >> reporter: thanks to those voters in the suburbs and in rural counties, they broke it and turned it red for the first time in more than 20 years. the morning after donald trump won the most powerful job on the planet, the breakfast crowd here buzzing with skpimt. excitement. >> people here are looking for change, they're tired of the political crap. >> reporter: bob werner celebrating a win tonight. >> we lost quite a bit, we got the steel and the oil, that used to be a big providesr in the area. you don't have that anymore. >> reporter: across the commonwealth, small towns showed

up for trump while clinton failed to connect. and a closer look at nbc's county by county map shows how wide those margins were outside of philadelphia. here in berks county, donald trump winning by 10 percentage points, in lancaster county, almost 20, and in rural schuylkill county, trump with an astounding 43 point lead. but critics say the rural vote was also fueled by racial resentment brought out by trump's incendiary campaign.'s jobs and the economy. >> i think that they're finally being heard. a lot of people are out of work looking for full-time employment. >> reporter: the data and the numbers so a clear urban-rural divide and we're seeing that trend in other rust belt states that donald trump won including ohio and michigan.

former president george h.w. bush is now showing his support for president-elect donald trump after not endorsing him during the campaign. he sent out a tweet today saying barbara and i congratulate donald trump and wish him well as he guys america forward as our next president. his family is in our prayers. and we find out that his son did not vote for a presidential candidate. and prime minister beng netanyahu is also showing support four president-elect. he called him a great friend of israel. he says he looks froord forward to working with him to advance prosperity and peace. donald trump and mike pence watched the election returns together last night. nbc10 talked to him about his

offshore by about 9:00 p.m. right now still seeing some rain showers on the lens here in philadelphia. current temperature 54 degrees, northwesterly winds at 12-mile-per-hour. and that's to be expected, northwesterly winds behind that cold front. lehigh can see nine-mile-per-hour wind speeds for you. otherwise locally seeing lots of 50s. parkside 52 degrees, 52 for andorra, so really the trend is 50s. port richmond 55, south jersey also seeing low to mid 50s. piney hollow 52 for you. coilfield 52 for you. and robbinsville seeing 53 degrees as well. as far as the wind is concerned, if you look at the bottom of your screen, again, you'll see your local neighborhood forecast, delaware seeing mainly mid 50s, limestone road 52 and
