nation tonight. 1,000 people in philly alone. similar scenes in new york, chicago, and nashville. nbc10's brandon hudson is live in north philadelphia. brandon. >> reporter: jacqueline and jim, we followed this group of protesters from center city right up north broad street, here through temple's campus. skyforce10 will give you a live look of where they are now. i'm told they just dispersed through city hall, right by 15th and market street. it's been a long day for police and protesters. i can also tell you that this is more than one way that they are dealing with a donald trump presidency. >> we feel like a second class citizen in this country. >> reporter: the rain couldn't silence the voices of protesters at thomas paine plaza in center city. several hundred people angry over the reality of a donald trump presidency. for temple student phillip gregory, the next few days are concerning. >> i'm really concerned for physical violence from either

side because you have very upset people. >> reporter: after gathering across from city hall, the group marched on north brought street to temple's campus. while we saw support for democrat hillary clinton, an organizer told us she wasn't the answer either. >> this to me is no different than the anti-war protests and the civil rights movements of the late '60s, early '70s. the only thing different is what bernie did, he created something so potent, imagine where we're going to be in four or five years. >> reporter: not far away in rittenhouse square -- >> this church stands up for the dignity of every human being. >> reporter: holy trinity episcopal church held its weekly san fernando. tonight's topic was unity. reverend john gardner told me his congregation members want their opinions to be respected. >> we want to hear what people have to say. people want to feel understood. >> reporter: gardner said tonight's laud yens was three times larger than it usually is. a parishioner told us this service was much needed. >> we prayed for one another,

for philadelphians. we prayed for president-elect donald trump. >> reporter: when it comes to the group of protesters we followed, we did not hear of any arrests. however, i am told by our news desk there was a group over in university city that was unrelated where one person was put in handcuffs, and i'm told that person who was put in handcuff was a donald trump supporter. reporting live here in north philly, i'm brandon hudson, nbc10 news. despite the protests, the presidential transition is under way. the trump administration is preparing to take over the white house. >> the work is happening in washington and new york. nbc10's keith jones live in our breaking news center with an update. >> reporter: president-elect donald trump will visit the white house tomorrow to talk with president obama about the transition of power between the two administrations. tonight, top trump advisor, senator jeff sessions, said that trump's team has reached the end of the beginning on his transition plan. they spent the day in meetings plotting the course. campaign sources tell nbc news

trump was too superstitious to talk about transition plans before he won. but now team trump is mulling over potential cabinet members. according to nbc news, mr. trump is considering former new york mayor rudy giuliani for attorney general, former house speaker newt gingrich as a candidate for secretary of state, and rnc chairman reince priebus is under consideration for chief of staff. in his victory speech early this morning, president-elect trump pledged to bind the country's wounds of division. he said he wants the government to serve all americans. >> every single american will have the opportunity to realize his or her fullest potential. the forgotten men and women of our country will be forgotten no longer. >> reporter: president-elect trump will meet with president obama at the white house at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow. today the president pledged a smooth transition of power. >> the peaceful transition of

power is one of the hallmarks of our democracy. and over the next few months, we are going to show that to the world. >> reporter: president obama said we're all now rooting for mr. trump's success. president obama also said he couldn't be happier, couldn't be prouder of hillary clinton. live in the breaking news center, keith jones, nbc10 news. >> keith, i'll be in washington for president obama's meeting with president-elect trump. you can look for my live report starting tomorrow on nbc10 news at 4:00. for hillary clinton, the outcome of this election, so shocking she waited until late this morning to give her concession speech. >> clinton said the loss will be painful for a long time. hillary clinton is actually winning the popular vote with 99% of the voting results in tonight. clinton has about 200,000 more votes than donald trump. but it's the electoral college that matters. the map here shows donald trump already has the 270 votes he needs. today clinton vowed to keep her

emotions in check as she conceded to trump. she told her supporters to stand strong together but to accept the election result. >> we have seen that our nation is more deeply divided than we thought. but i still believe in america, and i always will. and if you do, then we must accept this result and then look to the future. >> clinton said she offered to work with mr. trump on behalf of her country. >> as expected, the path to the white house came right through pennsylvania. it's a state that has voted democratic but turned red yesterday for the first time since 1988. >>. nbc10's aundrea cline-thomas tells us how donald trump resonated deeply with voters. she's live in may fair. >> reporter: donald trump did not have the number of offices, surrogates, or volunteers when it compared to hillary clinton, but he did have a message that resonated very deeply with voters. in the end, that was all he

needed. >> just woke up fresh in the morning. it was so exciting. >> reporter: looking at his home, you wouldn't know this is his first for ray into politics. donald trump's take on the second amendment and health care specifically resonated with him in a way no other candidate has. >> a guy that left his lifestyle to be ridiculed and mocked every day, that's my guy. >> reporter: that's why he took his family to rallies, phone banked, and used his work truck as a campaign billboard. >> i think it's come down to people feeling like they have not been hurt. >> reporter: nbc exit polls show trump capitalized on voters' dissatisfaction with the government. trump's win came at the hands of white voters, those without college degrees supporting him nearly two to one. and the promise to bring back jobs, especially resonated in rural counties in pennsylvania that flipped the state from blue to red. >> the emotional attachment and

president's signature initiatives. nbc's keith jones is here with a closer look. >> under a trump presidency and with a gop controlled congress, we could see major obama initiatives rolled back, repealed, or ended. for president obama, pillars so far have been health care reform. also the nuclear peace agreement brokered with iran. and his attempts at immigration reform. on the other side with president-elect donald trump, we've learned a lot about that mexican-funded border wall. not only that, his proposed ban on muslims and also his vow to get rid of obamacare. so what is possible? we just talked about immigration reform. that will hinge on the confirmation of president obama's nominee for supreme court, merrick garland. president-elect trump's victory all about assures a more conservative supreme court nominee. so, yes, this is also at risk. next, the affordable care act. trump has vowed to repeal or replace it.

so, yes, that too is at risk. will donald trump build a wall? nbc news reports that is unrealistic. so no. will he ban muslims? nbc news reports this too is unpopular. lastly, let's go back to the iran nuclear deal. president trump has vowed to dismantle it. so, yes, that is at risk. finally, mr. trump has already promised to roll back president obama's executive actions on immigration. also on climate change. no need for congressional approval there. we've heard president obama's calls to close the u.s. military prison at guantanamo bay, but mr. trump has vowed to load up gitmo with, quote, bad dudes. keith jones, nbc10 news. >> president-elect trump's white house victory also means new jersey governor chris christie could be following him to d.c. governor christie was on stage during the president-elect's

victory speech early this morning. there he is on the right of your screen. christie has been heading up mr. trump's transition team. we know that. experts we spoke to say christie is poised to take on a bigger role. by the way, the governor is scheduled to be on the "today" show tomorrow morning. new at 11:00, another area code is coming to a town near you. today the pennsylvania public utilities commission announced plans to add an additional area code by the spring of 2019. it will service philadelphia and the surrounding counties. the new number has yet to be chosen, though. well, you're only as old as you feel. >> that's right. today one woman in chester is celebrating her 108th birthday. she showed us she still has a lot of spunk. >> but does she have the secret to longevity? >> everybody says, what's your secret? i don't have a secret. >> there you glow. but marion roth does say never drinking or smoking has helped

you're definitely going to feel that change even though tomorrow is going to be cool and so is friday. you're going to feel that change going into saturday to start your weekend with another round of morning temperatures in the 30s. so here's future weather. clouds are going to be clearing overnight to tomorrow afternoon. you'll see the sunshine. we'll be dry but chilly. then we go into friday. another dry day and really we're going to stay dry through the entire weekend. so your weekend forecast, not looking too bad. friday around 60 degrees, philadelphia. 61 at the shore. for saturday, we're going to be more around 50 degrees. i think some neighborhoods will be in the mid-to-upper 40s like the pennsylvania neighborhoods and also the lehigh valley. sunday we'll be back around 60 degrees for most of the area. through the weekend, next week we do start in the 60s. the rain chance returns as we go into wednesday. some showers moving in, but temperatures not really warming up too much. still around 60 degrees by the middle of next week, and we're going to be cool again to end next week. no big warm-up, no big drop
