some parts of pennsylvania are coated in a foot of it. we'll tell you what we could see going into the thanksgiving holiday. >> announcer: nbc10 news starts now. shot in her great-grandmother's kitchen. tonight a teenage girl is in the hospital after a stray bullet came through the wall. i'm jim rosenfield. >> and i'm jacqueline london. the 14-year-old was an innocent victim of violence in nicetown, and it could have been much worse. nbc10's keith jones is live at einstein medical center with more. keith. >> reporter: jim, jackie, police didn't mince words here. they say the young girl who was shot and is now being cared for here, they say she could have been killed. >> it's crazy out here. it's like a killer playground up here. >> reporter: that's how kenneth describes his neighborhood even before i informed him the victim was a teen. here a 14-year-old girl was hit. >> wow, really? >> reporter: police say at least

ten shots were fired. the young girl was sitting in her great-grandmother's kitchen here on the 4400 block of north gratz street. >> a bullet went through the siding and the drywall and struck her in the right leg. >> reporter: police are trying to figure out why and who fired the semiautomatic weapon. >> it's not safe out here. it's not safe nowhere. you just got to like just really watch your back and just in and out right now, getting cold, stay in the house. >> reporter: hours before, there was a double shooting nearby. police were investigating whether these two shootings are related. >> she's still very fortunate that she was only hit in the leg, and she's in stable condition because the spent shell casings we found and the ballistic evidence are .45 caliber, which are very large. >> reporter: back live now at einstein medical center, the little girl, 14 years old, being treated here at the moment. and overnight police say the crime was captured on several surveillance cameras.

we're told that's a big part of the investigation right now. keith jones, nbc10 news. rapper kanye west is under observation tonight at a los angeles hospital. sources tell nbc news that l.a. police responded to a medical welfare call this afternoon, and the decision to hospitalize west was for his own health and safety. this comes after the rapper abruptly canceled the remaining dates of his national tour today. in the past few days, kanye west made headlines for a verbal rant against jay z and beyonce at a concert and saying he would have voted for donald trump. a community is in mourning tonight after a school bus crash claimed the lives of six children in chattanooga, tennessee. officials say 35 kindergarten through fifth graders were on board the bus when it rolled over and hit a tree. nearly two dozen children were taken to the hospital. chattanooga's police chief says investigators are looking at speed in his words very strongly as a factor.

the bus driver is said to be cooperating with authorities. to bucks county now, where a church youth group leader is charged with sex crimes against children. >> investigators say the man assaulted two teenagers at the church where they worshipped. den niece nakano has more from middletown township. >> reporter: police say the assaults happened inside this house of god. a 13-year-old girl was the first to come forward followed by a 15-year-old girl. police are concerned there may be more victims out there. oxford valley chapel in levitytown is sending out blessings on its church billboard. this as the church's pastor also asked for prayers following the arrest of a youth group leader. >> we do ask for the prayers of fellow believers for all involved. >> reporter: michael walusimbi is charged with sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl and trying to sexually assault a 15-year-old girl inside the church. police say the 22-year-old from bensalem even whispered to one victim in her ear during an alleged assault at the church that someday she would call him

a pedophile before she was able to break free. >> we are truly very deeply saddened over these recent events. we are fully cooperating with the police and being an ongoing investigation, i can't really say anything more than that. >> reporter: prosecutors say walusimbi restrained the teens on two separate occasions and acknowledged the assaults to police. church neighbors say the allegations in this tight knit community are alarming. >> oh, it's terrible. i hate to hear that. i hate to hear anyone taking advantage of a child. >> reporter: in middletown township, denise nakano, continuance 10 news. a tsunami warning has been lifted in japan in the wake of a massive 6.9 earthquake earlier today. that quake hit off the northeastern coast of the island nation. officials say a tsunami advisory for waves up to three feet remains in effect. the earthquake also shook buildings in tokyo some 150 miles southwest of the ep center. no initial reports of damage or

injuries. the quake's epicenter is near the location of a powerful 2011 quake that left more than 15,000 people dead. that quake sparked a devastating tsunami and severely damaged the reactors of a nuclear power plant in fukushima. new at 11:00, this is video of a forest fire still burning on mount penn in reading, berks county. investigators say the fire broke out around 6:00 tonight. about ten acres are still burning right now, but no one's being told to evacuate. officials are still looking into what caused the fire. unfortuna fortunately, there are no reports of any injuries. to the weather now and parts of pennsylvania buried in more than a foot of lake-effect snow. this is what it looks like in sus question hannah county in northeastern pennsylvania. some people saw so much snow, they couldn't get out of their driveways to go to work. >> no snow like that around here, but we're expecting plenty of wind and cold in our air tomorrow, right, sheena? >> yes, that is right. that is the good news. we do not expect snow like that. that lake-effect snow just

continues as long as the wind direction is still coming in at the same angle. that's what they're really going to continue to see even through tonight. us, though, we are dry, and our temperatures not too different than it was earlier this afternoon. so we're still around the upper 30s for most of the area. we still have the wind, though. it's still windy outside, so it feels like the upper 20s. mount pocono feels like 14 degrees. take a look at the feels like temperature as we go into tomorrow morning. 8:30 in the morning, many areas could be feeling like the upper teens. it is going to be another cold morning. there you see the lake-effect snow, though. it is still continuing just up to our north. but we're going to stay dry. coming up, i'll show you your thanksgiving day forecast. we have some showers in it. new at 11:00, a terror warning ahead of the holiday travel season. the state department says it has credible information that terrorists are planning attacks in europe. the government says travelers should avoid crowds. terrorists have already carried out attacks in belgium, france, germany, and turkey this year.

now to the transition to president-elect donald trump. mr. trump released a two and a half minute video tonight that was created and distributed by his transition team. this was not an event open to the press. >> our transition team is working very smoothly, efficiently, and effectively. truly talented men and women, patriots indeed, are being brought in, and many will soon be a part of our government, helping us to make america great again. >> in the video, the president-elect reiterates some of his promises for the first 100 days of his administration. that includes negotiating new trade deals and removing regulations on businesses. however, he largely steers clear of some of his most controversial campaign promises, including building a wall along the mexico border and repealing obamacare. meantime, the president-elect is facing new questions about his business empire and conflicts of interest. one focus, his d.c. hotel. a recent reception meant to woo foreign diplomats.

whether oversea customers stay there to try to win -- the foreign bank that financed the president-elect's acquisition of that property and others is under investigation by the justice department. that's a department mr. trump will begin overseeing in january. tonight the president-elect took to twitter to respond to these conflict of interest reports. he said, quote, prior to the election, it was well known that i have interests in properties all over the world. only the crooked media makes this a big deal. new at 11:00, new jersey governor chris christie is speaking publicly about his meeting with the president-elect over the weekend. on his radio show tonight, the governor said the meeting had been set for weeks and that too much was being read into it. >> i've been really clear about this. since i endorsed donald back in february, that i had every intention then, and i have every intention and belief now, as i said in atlantic city last week, that i'm going to fulfill my

term. >> governor christie's term ends in january of 2018. today he met with his cabinet in trenton. the governor says they discussed transportation and other state business. a murder suspect is in custody, charged with the ambush killing of a san antonio police officer. 31-year-old otis mccain was taken into custody monday afternoon after an intense manhunt. police say mccain walked up and shot and killed the officer while the officer was writing a traffic ticket in his patrol car. that ticket was for a driver who police say is not connected to the suspect. detective benjamin marconi later died at the hospital. he was a 20-year veteran on the force. pennsylvania governor tom wolf is under fire tonight. wolf vetoed house bill 1538. if passed, it would have allowed police departments 30 days to conceal the identity of officers who shoot and kill civilians. the bill had been approved by both the state house and senate. wolf released a statement that read, in part, while i am deeply

talk about a close call. new video shows a police cruiser nearly hitting this group of children after it lost control during a chase. this all happened yesterday afternoon in the suburbs of pittsburgh. a bus hit the police cruiser, causing that cruiser to crash while narrowly missing the group of kids standing on the sidewalk. amazingly, no one was seriously hurt. two communities in new jersey are reeling tonight following fires that destroyed almost a dozen homes. nbc10 was in wood bury and trenton as neighbors got a look at the aftermath today. in both cases, strong winds helped fuel the flames. in trenton, flames tore through a stretch of row homes around 3:00 this morning. more than two dozen people lost their homes. three people were taken to the hospital, including a firefighter with an injured leg. shaken residents described a frightening escape.

>> i heard an explosion, and i looked through my window, and there was fire and smoke. >> it's something that you never see. nothing you'll never see in your life. >> firefighters say winds were gusty, but falling power lines proved to be their biggest safety challenge. utility crews had to shut off the power and gas before firefighters could work on the blaze. about 40 miles away in south jersey, a fire fueled by winds sent seven people to the hospital. it broke out overnight in wood bury. it leveled one home, destroyed a vacant home and two cars and left a third home boarded up. wood bury's fire chief tells nbc nbc10 firefighters had to play a waiting game for the gas and electricity to be turned off so their safety wouldn't be threatened by ul faing wires. new at 11:00 a quest for extra cash ends in gunfire. this video shows a man getting shot at while trying to sell sneakers. with the holiday shopping season

upon, many people are buying and selling online, but meeting up could be risky business. >> nbc10 found some ways you can protect yourself. nbc10's brandon hudson is joining us live with that story. brandon. >> reporter: sneakers are a hot ticket item this holiday season. if you can't get them at your local store, be careful if you're doing a meet-up sale with someone from online. in a split second, a sneaker meet-up turns into a crime. it played out on this security camera in washington, d.c. this week. the supposed buyer pulled a gun on a seller and fired three times before running off with a pair of jordans. no one was hurt. >> the video in general is a little surprising. i would hope that people would be smarter in this day and age and not do sneaker meet-ups to buy or sell as individuals. >> reporter: nate earns re-up philly in south philadelphia. it's home to some high end kicks including a number of jordans and yeezys. the kanye we

the. >> the good person may be ann suming and think nothing is going to happen, whereas the bad people are out there looking to get over on people. >> reporter: this video from new york city shows a seller who hit a 17-year-old with his car after police say the teenage buyer robbed him. the teen lost his arm. if you're leery of meeting in person, some local police departments, including conshohocken, offer their parking lots as so-called safe zones for people to buy and sell goods. and here's some suggestions. if you plan to do anything or buy anything online with anyone this holiday season, do a background check on the seller. also meet in a public place or store, but don't do it at night i'm brandon hudson, nbc10 news. you don't have to wait for a black friday to start scoring some holiday deals out there. experts have a few tips to help

you take advantage of those deep discounted online. first, fill up your shopping cart. and as the black friday deals come out, sign out of the website. stores want you to complete the sale so when you log back in, you may get new discounts. you can also outsmart retailers by searching for better deals on the same website with different devices. try your phone, desktop, and tablet to find the best option to save. >> that's a lot of work but maybe it works. save some money. shop around for some warmer temperatures maybe, sheena. yeah, i wish. as we go through the next several days, we're not really going to get above normal for this time of the year. it is going to stay cold all the way through thanksgiving, through the weekend into next week. yes, we are not looking at 60s in the forecast. tomorrow morning, cold and windy again. the wind chills will be feeling anywhere from about 17 to 21 degrees early in the morning, right around sunrise. whatever you were wearing this morning, if it kept you warm,

you're going to want it again tomorrow morning. maybe another layer too if you were too cold today. thursday we have some showers early in the day. possibly by midday for your thanksgiving. it will be drying for thanksgiving evening. i'll show thaw forecast in a second. wind speeds are still up anywhere from about 30 to possibly 35 miles an hour at times. wild wood seeing a 31-mile-an-hour wind gust, and it's making temperatures feel about 10 degrees colder. feels like 29 in philadelphia. 29, wilmington. 14, that's what it feels like in mount pocono. and these witnd chills will be staying below the actual temperature as we go into the morning. gusty winds through the day tomorrow. high of only 46 degrees. actual temperature. normal high is 54 degrees. we go into wednesday. we're at 50. thursday, 5 2. friday, 56. you see we're just going to stay right around normal for this time of the year. we'll slowly start to warm up to it, but we don't have any big

warm-ups in the forecast. it's going to stay feeling cold. locally we're dry, but that lake-effect snow is still going in parts of upstate new york. they are still getting snow falling and accumulating, so that is not ending tonight. but here's a wide look at future weather. it will eventually end as we go through part of the day tomorrow. so now here we're going through tuesday. later in the afternoon and evening. for thanksgiving travel, right now throughout the northeast for your tuesday, not a concern weather wise, but closer to chicago, we will be watching that area of rain and a snow mix farther north. by thursday, thanksgiving day, we get the rain. maybe a couple snow showers in the poconos. but the rain clearing later in the evening. then some snow heading up to new england later thursday night. so just keep that in mind for thanksgiving travel. now, the thanksgiving forecast locally, showers early in the morning possibly. some could be lingering through the early afternoon. high temperatures only reaching
