rain on the parade. sheena is tracking wet weather that could impact your thanksgiving plans. living in fear. neighbors say they are fed up after gunfire erupts at a crime-ridden motel. good evening. i'm jacquelin london. >> i'm jim rosenfield. tonight's shooting is the latest in a string of violence at the liberty motel in north philadelphia. it sits on germantown avenue just two blocks from temple hospital, and right across the street from an elementary school. >> tonight people in the area are trying to reclaim their neighborhood. nbc 10's denise has followed their struggle for nearly two years. she brings us their story. >> reporter: neighbors have fought for years to get the motel shut down because of the crime it brings to the neighborhood, and tonight's shooting just one of many. you can see the shattered glass where the bullets entered and two bullets went into the second door. >> god only knows what's going on right now. >> you never know if you step out your house what you are going to walk into.

>> tonight neighbors at the liberty motel in north philadelphia walked into crime tape. bullet holes and blood stains. a masked gunman shot two rounds with a pair of glass doors and sue the motel lobby hitting one customer in the thigh. >> it's pretty clear that this shooter intentionally shot into the lobby. we're not certain if this 43-year-old was the intended target. >> john was -- he and his wife are staying at the motel in the meantime. >> she can't come out. he can't get in. i just called to make sure she was okay. she heard a couple of gunshots. >> neighbors and police say crime like this is the norm in and around the liberty motel on germantown avenue in west moreland, but efforts to stop it have failed. >> we cannot seem to close the place down. i don't know what it is, but we cannot seem to close it down. >> my neighbor several months ago, he was shot and robbed, and he lives two doors from me. >> police responded to more than 1,800 calls at the motel or within a block of it from 2004 to 2014. for various crimes involving drugs, prostitution, deadly

overdoses, and murder. efforts to reach motel management tonight were unsuccessful. a police captain tells me tonight that the police is a cancer they just can't stop, and neighbors are telling me they won't stop until this place is shut down. in north philadelphia, i'm denise mccono, nbc 10 news. new at 11:00 a pair of arrests in connection with a botched robbery attempt at a pizza shop in bucks county. two people were taken into custody tonight for their alleged roles in the crime. both ramos and soto are facing robbery and conspiracy charges. police say the two women staked out the pizza and pasta in levitttown last week. they say soto's two sons tried to rob the restaurant when a customer pulled his own weapon and shot them. one of the men was killed. the other injured. ramos is the boyfriend of the surviving suspect. no charges for the customer. the two women are due in court next week. a philadelphia man is recovering in the hospital after a package containing a bomb went off inside his home.

the manila envelope was dropped off outside an apartment at 18th and pine street yesterday, but the victim didn't open it until early this morning. investigators say it contained a trigger system and shrapnel. the 60-year-old victim suffered injuries to his face, torso, and left hand. one neighbor we spoke to said it will have her thinking twice before opening a package left on her doorstep. >> glad that i normally actually see the delivery person thand to me, but it's definitely something to keep an eye on during the holiday season. >> investigators say there's no link to any terror organization, but they're looking into other possible motives. now to the video that has philadelphia buzzing. a bull escapes from a truck outside a slaughter house and makes a run for it. crews chase the run-away animal for miles. even on to i-95 and 676. >> nbc 10's brandon huss is live where the chase came to an end. brandon, what a story, and a sight. right in the middle of philly.

>> well, jacquelin and jim, this is definitely a day that people won't forget. one witness told us she was close enough to reach out and touch the bull. it was one of several sightings in this area that many people saw before it got here to this wooded area behind me at eighth and vine. >> and i seen a big black animal, and i'm, like, what is that? >>. >> reporter: the highlight of karen's day captured in seven seconds. she was quick enough to get video of a bull on the loose in fish town. >> i didn't open believe my eye. >> reporter: she was about a block away from her home when she saw the 550 pound animal. >> i was by this fire hydrant, and that's when it ran right by me straight up commerce street. i was afraid of it charging my car. >> reporter: the bull began its adventure down this alleyway outside a slaulter house on west lehigh avenue. the owner who spoke to us in spanish says the bovine escaped a delivery truck.

when they opened the door, the animal just took off. photos shared with nbc 10 tracked its path through the city, including a stop at kensington high school. this video showed the bull running on i-95. moments later it was surrounded by police and a conservation officer who put it down at eighth and vine. >> in an extreme situation and emergency situation for public safety we chose to put it down. >> reporter: while karen's time with the bull was short-lived, it's one she won't soon forget. >> i had my window up, but if i stuck my hand out, i could have touched it. >> reporter: the bull belonged to a livestock company in lancaster. i spoke to the owner by phone. he told me that he expressed his gratitude for the police officers and the conservation officer who handled this situation and avoided all the injuries. live, i'm brandon hudson, nbc 10 news. now to this. the busiest travel time of the year is officially here. >> from the skies to the roads, an estimated 48.7 million people

are expected to travel to their thanksgiving destinations. nbc 10 and sherry hill this afternoon where the wheels were spinning on the new jersey turnpike. many trying to get a head start on their trip while the national price of gas is down from this time last year, new jersey's gas prices are up by 23 cents a gallon. that's thanks to the recent gas tax hike. most people we spoke with were concerned about beating the traffic. >> we want to get there in a timely manner. we don't want to be stuck in traffic on the way home. going there, you want to be there on time for dinner. >> triple-a wants to remind anyone hitting the road before thanksgiving to check their car first. they expect to rescue hundreds of thousands of drivers for things like dead batteries and flat tires. will the weather cooperate if you are heading out of town for the holiday? >> nbc 10 first alert meteorologist gina is here with our thanksgiving travel forecast. sheena. >> with he e do have rain, but up to it for tomorrow we're going to be clear, but now we are watching one weather system

approaching chicago. i think we could see some delays in chicago up through minneapolis where there is snow. that weather system will keep heading in our direction. that's why we have some showers in the forecast. here is a look at future weather. there is the weather system we're talking about. it will be moving across chicago through the day tomorrow, which primarily rains. snow on the north side of it. by 6:00 p.m. tomorrow evening, chicago finally getting out of the rain. we could see some airport delays in areas like detroit, for example. then that system gets closer to us thursday morning, 8:00 a.m., thanksgiving morning. cloudy conditions, but now notice the rain starting to get close and moving in as we go through your thanksgiving day. possibly snow moving into new england so we could be seeing travel concerns there for your thanksgiving. coming up we'll take a closer look at the timing of this. a little more locally and your neighborhood weather as we go into black friday. >> new at 11:00 we are getting our first look at the philadelphia police officer arrested for shooting his son.

dorian young is facing several charges for the september shooting inside his northeast philadelphia home. it all started after young and his oldest son got into an argument. police say the father fired two shots from his personal weapon. the second shot hit his son in the back. dorian young resigned on sunday. be he is being held until his next court appearance. to new jersey where 20,000 drunk driving convictions are in jeopardy and a former state police officer is facing criminal charges tonight. investigators say mark dennis falsified records while recalibrating blood alcohol testing machines. that means the readings may have been inaccurate. over a seven-year period dennis worked in union, somerset, middlesex, monmouth, and ocean counties. turning to the transition to president-elect donald trump. his campaign pledge to lock her up now appears to be a thing of the past. the president-elect says investigating hillary clinton

for her use of a private e-mail server is, in his words, just not something i feel very strongly about. mr. trump told the "new york times" today that it would be very divisive for the country. candidate trump vowed during the presidential campaign that he would put clinton in jail even though any prosecution would technically be up to the department of justice. meantime, the president-elect is distancing himself from a group of white nationalist sympathizers who celebrated trump's white house victory over the weekend. >> trail trump, trail our people, hail victory. >> this video shows people giving the nazi salute during the national policy institute's conference in washington d.c. this weekend. the group is afl yachted with the alt-right movement. president-elect trump told the "new york times" today that he disavows andcoen demes the group. the comments comes after he faces criticism over his choice of steve bannon. bannon has also been linked to the alt-right movement. he is also dealing with another

controversy tonight. this one involving the trump foundation. in a few filing the foundation reports it violated irs rules. those rules prohibit using the charity's money or assets to benefit mr. trump, his family, his companies, or substantial contributors. the filing doesn't detail the violations. it comes as new york's attorney general has been investigating the foundation. vice president joe biden will not run for chairman of the democratic national committee. his name has been mentioned by democratic insiders as the possible candidate. the party is said to choose a new leader next year after losing the white house, senate, and house in the 2016 election. biden's spokesperson says he is not interested in the position, but he plans to stay deeply involved in helping shape the future of the party. wilmington's fire chief has reinstituted a controversial program many of his own firefighters call dangerous. it's called rolling bypass, and under the program the city shuts down one engine a day. it's meant to save on overtime

costs, but earlier this year it proved very costly. on september 24th christopher leech and jerry figureins were killed fighting this row home fire. the closest engine that night had been shut down to save money. rolling bypass had been on hold ever since that fatal fire until today. >> i can only imagine what any city resident would feel like banging on the firehouse door, the lights out, looking in the bay windows and seeing a fire truck just sitting there. >> as for the fire chief's future, the chief has not said if he will keep the chief or the program. >> what happened when president obama hosted some of the country's biggest stars. >> the most wanted gifts this holiday season. >> and coming up, we have some showers in the forecast for your thanksgiving. i'll show you if those will be lingering into black friday, and what you can expect for the weekend. that's next.

sfliefrmt changes are coming to the medical test for train engineers in the wake of the deadly new jersey trends cash in hoboken. the rail authority says they will soon have a mandate to test for sleep apnea and other sleeping disorders. thomas gallagher was at the controls during the september crash. he was later diagnosed with sleep apnea. federal railroad authority officials are finalizing a rule to mandate screenings. a vigil was held tonight for the five students who died in a school bus crash in tennessee. dozens packed a church in chattanooga for tonight's vigil. family and friends came together in prayer as 30 children remain in the hospital. meanwhile, the driver of that bus, 24-year-oldjohntheny walker was charged with homicide. he was driving well over the 30-mile-per-hour speed limit when he lost control and crashed.

the stars were out in our nation's capital as president obama delivered his final round of presidential medals of freedom. hollywood mega star tom hanks and nba legend michael jordan were among those that received awards. bruce springsteen, the boss, saturday night live creator loren michaels and talk show host ellen degeneres who was really emotional rfrp. they were also honored. the presidential medal of freedom is the nation's highest civilian honor. but before the ceremony got underway, look at this. the 21 recipients had a little fun. they took part in a mannequin challenge at the white house. gathering of true american l luminaries frozen in time. having some fun there. you like to shop? it's that season. the must have gift is almost impossible to find already. >> nbc 10's keith jones shows us much respect on black friday. >> if this video terrifies you and the sound -- [ laughing ]

>> i expect campers. keith jones, nbc 10 news. >> remember the furbies? >> and yes, and cabbage patch. >> what was your favorite? >> oh, gosh. my little pony. maybe. maybe. >> i think so. >> we will stick with my little pony. i did love cabbage patch kids. as we go into thanksgiving, everyone wants to know if it will be dry, but as we go into the next 24 hours, we will stay dry, but as we go into thanksgiving, we have some rain moving into that. it's going to be cool thanksgiving day with some spotty showers around. keep that in mind. you may be dodging the rain, at least by late morning and midday thursday. by friday for your black friday, cloudy. some spotty showers in the forecast, but i don't think it's going to be a wash-out at all.

temperatures right now are mostly in the 30s for most of the area. 38 degrees. philadelphia, 32. still a breeze. that's the feels like temperature. some areas already feeling like the upper 20s. locally we're nice and dry. the big area of snow that we had yesterday this time to our north is now gone, but we're watching a new area around chicago. some rain and snow here. that's going to be our next weather system for thanksgiving day. here's future weather. we do stay dry tonight and tomorrow we stay dry, but notice the clouds increasing later in the day. we could see sprinkles into delaware. otherwise, late morning and around lunchtime. mostly on the lighter side leaving through the evening, but still keeping the cloud cover here. for your black friday, says 6:00
