4:00 pm
here. so as we go through the morning into thanksgiving morning, i expect just cloudy skies, it won't be anywhere near as cold as it was this morning and the best chance of any kind of showers would be late morning and early afternoon and that will keep the temperatures down a little bit. i certainly don't expect widespread rain, not heavy rain, just widespread showers. in the afternoon, i expect the clouds to hang around and into the evening as temperatures hold steady compared to what we would normally get if we had clear skies. we'll go into black friday and the rest of the holiday weekend in a few minutes. mitch, where are you right now and how are those roads? >> reporter: we are over 95, you can see the southbound slowdown, this is just south of the airport at philadelphia international. the southbound lanes are backed

4:18 pm
patience and their umbrellas tomorrow. >> we're mostly just going to be dealing with cloud cover, most if not all of the holiday weekend is going to be dry, we're seeing a lot of sunshine today, some clouds in the western sky that you can see now, those are really, really high clouds not capable of producing any rain. we're up in the 50s, 40s in some spots. 47 in clipstown, 46 in co allentown. the headlines, we're mostly just going to have clouds thursday and friday, not much of a chance of significant rain at all. it's mainly dry for black friday too. and milder. and saturday and sunday, sunny and windy. so overall, that's pretty nice weekend. here comes the clouds, and it
4:19 pm
looks a little threatening out there, but as i showed you, just a little while ago, this whole area is up in the clouds. it's not reaching the ground. that stuff is reaching the ground, that stuff is pretty far away. we'll see how that gets timed out. 6:30 in the morning, no precipitation in our area, we have a little bit of rain in maryland and many of the computer models are doing this, breaking that whole system up and just some patchy little light showers coming through, maybe a few snowflakes in the poconos, but that's about it. and later on during the day, mostly just dry, with clouds cover, so it might look like it's going to rangin, but there just not enough moisture in the atmosphere. going into friday and into saturday, still dry, maybe some flurries on saturday in the poconos. so here's my forecast for
4:20 pm
thanksgiving morning, just cloudy. not as cold as this morning, it was in the 20s in parts of the area. late morning, it's early afternoon, that's the best chance of getting maybe a light shower. and then later on, still cloudy, temperatures in the upper 40s to near 50 degrees, black friday, most likely dry, a lot of clouds around, maybe some peeks of sunshine. starting off in the lehigh valley, then in the afternoon and evening, temperatures holding steady because of all that cloud cover, so tonight, we're not dropping all that low, and you can see in our neighborhood weather, you see lots of clouds here, but you don't see much if any rain, more on the rest of weekend coming up. we know millions of people are out on the roads getting to their thanksgiving tedestinatio. >> francesca ruso keeping an eye

4:32 pm
>> we contacted lowe's, the company told us it would review the issue and contact its customer. just a couple of days after we contacted lowe's, it contacted billups. >> the man from lowe's came out and took pictures. >> and less than a month later, lowe's sent out another subcontractor to make the repairs. bi billups said he's glad he called nbc10 responds before spending anymore more money. >> here's the take away for you, although you may pay a company such as lowe's to do a job, they employ subcontractors. befo check out the subcontractor's

4:34 pm
to be tomorrow? >> i don't think it's going to be that wet. in fact that system that you're seeing is going to be weakening as it comes in. we could see a few showers around, but the day as a whole is not going to be that wet at all. we have had sunny skies all day in philadelphia. the clouds starting to move into the western sky, it's 50 degrees, still a lot of sunshine across the rest of the area as the sun is just about to set. as you can see the moisture is starting to approach, but a lot of this year up near west where washington, very, very dry there. but back here in the lehigh valley, that's where we're seeing the significant rain and that is what we're going to be tracking as we go into the dare twoirm. tomorrow. so i do expect it to be cloudy when you wake up, i don't expect it to be anywhere near as cold as it was this morning and we will have a shower or two during
4:35 pm
the early morning or afternoon hours. later on during the day, any showers should be moving out and we're just left with cloudy skies. we'll see if that is the case for friday and the rest of the weekend in a few minutes. >> nbc10 keeping an eye on the thanksgiving travel rush for you. let's take a live look at the schuylkill express way, near the belmont avenue exit. that is a lot of brake lights right there. mitch blacher giving us a bird's-eye view from sky force 10. >> reporter: we're over the blu route and 95, and 95 south still a major problem. we showed you about a half hour ago that it was backed up all the way to the airport. this is the etched of that backup, at the blue route and 95 south. it's starting to affect the traffic merging on to the blue route. as far as the northbound lanes, it looks like it's congested
4:36 pm
south of the blue route, but as you get past the blue route, out towards the airport, it opens up. thanksgiving is extra special this year for a north philadelphia bakery. >> it is the first holiday they are open since a devastating fire and business was booming at denise's delicacies on north 22 and street. people were lined up this afternoon to pick up their sweet treats. the bakery reopened back in may. it had been closed since the fire back in march of 2015, took the owners more than a year to fix it up, saying it was a complete loss. no one was hurt in the fire, fortunately. the cause still unknown tied, the bakery originally opened 24 years ago. the flyers were in a giving mood today. they prepped the kitchen, set tables and even started cooking
4:37 pm
some food. so just how safe is your child's school bus. the feds say seat belts would make school busses safer, but only sick states require them. nbc10 goes to the source to find out why they aren't required and what it would take to get them insta installed.

. the thanksgiving travel rush is on, taking live look at i-95 in south philadelphia. take a look at all those brake lights. many of those people making it to the airport or their final destinations or maybe just to the grocery store to get those last minute items. five children were killed in a school bus crash. none was wearing a seat belt because the bus didn't have any. in fact most busses don't. and the crash in tennessee is reviving the discussion of whether school busses should have seat belts. only six states require seat belts on school busses. tennessee isn't one of them. neitherer is pennsylvania or delaware, but new jersey is one of the issues. price is one of the issues. federal officials have estimated the price of up to $7,000 to
4:46 pm
$10,000 per shoulder belt on busses. until recently federal regulators didn't push the idea, but that changed a year ago, when they called for seat belts on newly purchased busses. >> would safety belts make them even safer? absolutely. >> reporter: why not mandate that right now. >> there's no question that the safety belts would help, but the issue is beyond just that, how do we make student transportation safer. >> with all due respect, what do you say to the parentses who are putting their kids on busses today, they don't want to wait. >> and right now putting them on that big yellow school bus is still the safest way to get to school. >> seven states considered seat belts on school busses this year but none enacted it. the macy's thanksgiving day parade balloons are being
4:47 pm
inflated right now. they include some of the most famous characters such as charlie brown that you just saw and hello kitty, the balloons will fly through the streets tomorrow for millions to see. it will take workers until 7:00 tonight to inflate all those balloons. you don't need to leave the warmth of your home to see them. see the macy's thanksgiving day parade right here on nbc10. and another thanksgiving day tradition takes place on nbc10, who will be the best in show at the national dog show that starts tomorrow at noon. >> isn't a golden retriever, the favorite? tomorrow's weather might make you want to curl up on the couch and keep it right here on nbc10. >> there is a chance for rain for turkey day.
4:48 pm
nbc10 chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz has the forecast. >> you see the clouds coming in from the west, and that's just the beginning of the changes, we're not going to be seeing a sunny repeat of today tomorrow. we have got temperatures in the upper 40s in most of the area, and in delaware, we have some places still 50, but others starting to cool down. odessa is 50 degrees, farther to the south, redding is at 50, milton 45, rehoboth beach at 45 degrees. you can see, dry weather in the east, and some of this moisture coming in from the west. now most of this is not reaching the ground, the low levels of the atmosphere are very dry, that's what's moving to the northeast. the steadier stuff is moving to the northeast too. but that's going up toward new york state. so we're going to have to wait until some of this stuff
4:49 pm
approaches. and a lot of kbcomputer models e suggesting that will weaken as it does approach. here we go through the night tonight and into tomorrow morning, no significant precipitation, we do expect clouds to come in by the morning, by the late morning, early afternoon, patchy areas and generally light showers possible as we go into the afternoon. so most of the day, if not all of the day is dry, if it does rain, it's not going to be light and not too long lasting. and then, we have more cloud cover for friday. but most of the computer models now are not really showing much of anything for friday, just the cloud cover and maybe even some breaks in the clouds later in the day to allow the temperature to go up a little bit more tomorrow. then on saturday, we gets lots of sunshine, sunday we get lots of sunshine as well. here's the forecast for tomorrow, starts off cloudy, ends cloudy, and not too cool
4:50 pm
considering all those clouds. the p.a. suburbs could see a shower in the late afternoon. and the lehigh valley, but again, most of the day is not raining. then we're going to be seeing black friday as another day with just pretty much cloud cover, temperatures a little bit above average or below average for this time of the year. for the rest of the weekend, we're talking about a windy day on sunday, not as windy as last sunday, but windier than saturday, gusties up to 20 miles an hour. i expect it to be dry both saturday and sunday. and for the eagles on monday night too. there's the sunshine on sunday, there's monday's weather, look how warm it gets tuesday and wednesday. that's when we get some significant rain then. well, many of us cook food for our families for thanksgiving. >> but others cook meals for those they don't even know, people that need it the most
