now. get ready for a real soaker. we're tracking two systems to our west that will hit us for the morning and evening ride home tomorrow. good evening, i'm jacqueline london. >> i'm jim rosenfield. we'll get days of rain. that could make the streets slick with all those leaves that are piled up in the neighborhoods. nbc 10 first alert chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz has the timing and also the rain totals for us. >> glenn, how early will it start? >> well, in parts of the area like the lehigh valley, berks county, it will start by 5:00 a.m. philadelphia area, probably 6:00. down toward the shore it will take until mid-morning. we have a first alert in effect because of all this rain and the combination of all of those leaves. that's going to cause more problems for driving. that's tuesday morning all the way through wednesday night. it won't be raining continuously during that period of time but there will be periods of heavy rain. we'll have slippery roads and clogged drains due to all the

lea leaves. this might be a time to get the leaves away from those drains, because we're going to get more rain than we've had the month of november, the whole month of november. it was kind of dry last november too. here comes the clouds. the rain is far to the west now, in cincinnati and to the south, some severe weather out there. we're talking about rain, maybe even some thunderstorms. we're talking about some mild weather too. look at these temperatures. 7:00 a.m., 55. that's above the normal high. and then we're in the obvio60s e afternoon with a chance of thunderstorms. as we go through the rest of our neighborhoods, we find a similar story. periods of rain starting with the morning rush. more on the timing of when it starts and ends, coming up. >> all right, glenn. before you head out the door tomorrow morning, watch the "nbc 10 today" first alert morning team. you can watch traffic, weather,

and the news you need to start your day starting at 4:30 a.m. now to breakdown neing news center city, philadelphia. a septa bus hit a woman at 23rd and chestnut streets. that intersection is now closed to traffic. once again, a septa bus hit and killed a woman there about a half hour ago. now to today's attack at ohio state university. tonight we have learned the college student shot dead by police is a legal u.s. resident. he drove into a crowd, then stabbed people with a butcher knife. nbc 10's erin coleman is following the developments and joins us live in the nbc 10 breaking news center. >> jacqueline, the suspect is 18-year-old abdul artan, a somali refugee who came to the united states from pakistan a few years ago. he was a student at the university.

investigators say he tried to run over a group of people just about 10:00 a.m. this morning. a campus police officer, responding to another call nearby, went into action. he witnessed artan get out of his car and start to go at the group with a knife. that's when the officer shot and killed artan. 11 people have been hospitalized from that attack. one person is in critical condition. now, within minutes of the attack, the university sent out a tweet instructing people to run, hide, and fight. one student tweeted out this picture with the caption, quote, i'm safe in a barricaded room. if you're on campus, get in a room and stay safe. a witness described the chaotic moments during the attack. >> it's not real. you go numb. it's not supposed to happen. sorry. so yeah, it's a scary. it was really scary. >> the investigation is still

very much ongoing. but officials can confirm that the attacker was alone prior to and during the attack. still no word on a motivae. erin coleman, nbc 10 news. lester holt will have in-depth coverage of the campus attack on "nbc nightly news" right after our broadcast in 20 minutes. police want you to look at this video of a man accused of sexual assault. nbc 10's deanna durante, i know you spoke with the victim today, she has a frightening story. >> reporter: she does. she says she doesn't know how long this guy was inside her house. since our report at 4:00, we can tell you police have gotten tips. so far no word if the tips have led to the man's identity. the victim and the police want

you to take a good look at this video. this is the man this woman says broke into her apartment and sexually assaulted her. >> the first thing i know, i was awake and a man was in my living room. >> reporter: this is the man in a gas station. police say the woman fought with him and got him to leave the apartment. >> he pulled back and gave me enough leverage that i could push and i could kick and i kicked him, and i pushed him. it took probably two good pushes to get him to my door. >> reporter: we showed the video to the woman and her neighbors. they say they never saw him before. >> he appears asian, between 5'7" and 5'10". he's wearing glasses. this picture is pretty prominent. someone in the area has seen this guy. >> reporter: if you are that someone, both police and this woman want you to turn him in.

>> just to see how easy it was for him to get in, is frightening. >> reporter: and the little girl sleeping in the apartment, we're told by her mother she woke up too. she's asking her mother what more she could have done. police say they want to find this man. if you know who he is, call bensalem police. live in bensalem township, deanna durante, nbc 10 news. now at 6:00, the fight over the presidential election isn't ending tonight. attorneys for the jill stein campaign filed a lawsuit a few hours ago requesting a recount in pennsylvania. nbc 10's lauren mayk has been following the recount push and joins us with more. lauren? >> jacqueline, this is happening on two fronts. the lawsuit was filed in harrisburg, asking for a full state recount. a second effort we saw happening on the ground today, in the philadelphia region and other counties, where voters made their own individual requests to look at this election again. >> reporter: they came, papers

in hand, with affidavits citing concerns with voting machines and hopes for a recount. it's being spurred by green party candidate jill stein on social media. >> today, very specifically i want to help you understand what exactly we need to do to launch the recount in pennsylvania. >> reporter: but hillary clinton supporters like sue christmas are getting involved too. what are you handing in today? >> i'm handing in three affidavits to request a recount and recanvass of the vote. >> reporter: this was the scene outside the elections office in philadelphia. and we've learned of filings also in berks, buck, and center counties, also montgomery county, where they're delaying certification of the election because of a potential challenge to the results. the activity at elections offices like this one at philadelphia's city hall comes as a lawsuit now asks for a recount in every county in pennsylvania. it, like the affidavits voters

were turning in, cites concerns about the integrity of voting machines in this hard fought battleground state. >> when trump was tweeting, you know, a couple of months ago about how there's issues with the election and i'm not going to trust it, i think us in the green party were like, he's kind of right, there are issues, and we need to take a look at it. >> the state tells us there is no evidence of hacking. this push for a recount prompting criticism from republicans, the chair of the state party calling it a desperate act. three weeks after the election, donald trump has been declared the winner in michigan, the state election board today certifying the win over hillary clinton. the margin was just over 10,000 votes. the president-elect met with retired general david petraeus today. petraeus could be in line for a cabinet nomination. he was president obama's cia director before resigning before the disclosure that he had an

affair with his biographer and shared highly classified information with her. mr. trump says he will terminate relations with cuba if, coat, cub quote, cuba is un make a better deal for the cuban people and the u.s. as a whole. cubans are paying their respects to cuba's former controversial leader fidel castro tonight. cuban soldiers this morning fired off 21-gun salutes to mark the start of services for castro. thousands are filing through a memorial in heavy annaavana's p the revolution. castro's death was announced late friday. delaware authorities are trying to figure out who shot a teenager who ended up on a school bus in wilmington, after the 15-year-old victim got on the bus this morning, other students let the driver know he had been shot three times.

the teenager is a ninth grader and is in stable condition this evening. no deal. the philadelphia federation of teachers rejected an offer for four-year, $100 million contract from the school district. teachers have been working without a contract for three years and haven't had raises for four. the union says the deal doesn't include back pay or retroactive raises. the school district says it just doesn't have the money to offer more. monday night football at the linc. before tonight's eagles game, as they approach the linc against the green bay packers tonight. john clark will join us from the field to tell us which receiver won't be playing tonight. next at 6:00, a special thank you. hear from the man pulled from this burning car and the police officer who came to his rescue. also ahead, the punishment for this local passenger's rant and what the airline is now doing for everyone on board.

hey, baby. >> today delta airlines banned the passenger on this flight from atlanta to allentown and that ban is for life. the video posted on facebook shows the passenger processing his support for president-elect donald trump and insulting others. the video did not show what led up to that outburst. delta decided to refund the cost of the tickets to everyone on that flight last night. the airline apologized and says it should not have allowed the passenger to remain on that flight. a quick thinking atlantic county police detective is being credited with saving a man from that burning car right there. the officer's show of bravery came weeks before he is set to retire. nbc 10 jersey shore bureau reporter ted greenberg has the story. >> reporter: james watts knows he night nmight not be here todt

weren't for pleasanton police detective adam brownlee. >> i might not ever have seen my family again. >> reporter: brownlee, seen here on the right, put his own safety at risk when he ran towards straight towards this burning car with watts inside. >> it's something he didn't have to do. he put this individual first. >> reporter: moments earlier police say the 63-year-old suffered an apparent medical problem while driving on delilah road and crashed his chevy sedan into another car in the parking lot. >> i don't remember anything. >> reporter: the accelerator jammed on watson's chevy, its spinning tires melted. both cars caught fire. a passing driver tried unsuccessfully to remove watts. brownlee managed to put the car in park, pulled watts out and rushed him to safety. >> i would like to give my thanks to him. >> he didn't hesitate. he's a very humble guy. he knew what needed to be done. you won't see him in front of

night, filled with musical performances and special guests. >> at least they can sleep in on saturday. >> there you go. >> hopefully it won't be too cold friday night. >> as for that rain coming in the morning, let's go to nbc 10 chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz. >> jim, it will be raining during the day tomorrow and not raining tomorrow night for that tree lighting. we've got a first alert for the rain that is coming for all the neighborhoods. it's a long period of time, from tuesday morning's rush to wednesday night. and the complicating factor here is all the leaves that are around, clogging the storm drain, making the roads even more slippery, especially when the rain starts near the morning rush. got to take it easy tomorrow morning. temperatures are in the 40s right now after getting into the 50s across the area. and some of these numbers may actually hit 70 by wednesday. right now it's 50 in center

city, port richmond, park wood, manayunk, all at 50 degrees, right around average for this time of the year. the clouds are coming in, and the rain is on the way. it's going to be hard to miss that, isn't it? it's moving to the east. it's a solid area. and even some severe weather with that. but we need rain. look at this. there's a severe drought condition across the northern half of bucks county and mercer county, parts of the lehigh valley. and the moderate drought for the rest of the area. we need the rain. we have not seen a big rain, a one-inch-plus rain all month. not for two months, that's how much we'll be getting here. doylestown toward allentown, those are the areas that need the rain the most, and they may get more than two inches of rain by the time it's all over with, thursday. here is the hour by hour. as we go through the night tonight, you see it's dry.

temperatures not dropping very much. then here comes the rain for the morning rush. not necessarily all that heavy yet. it's mild. and then it really gets heavier as we head toward 9, 10, 11:00 tomorrow morning, allentown, pottstow pottstown, places in heavy drought getting heavy rain. temperatures going into the 60s despite the rain. mid-60s farther to the south. that's a lot of rain. tuesday night, things quiet down. watch what happens wednesday. here comes the next round. so it's going to come in two pieces. and the second piece on wednesday, many of us could get near 70 degrees. the amounts of rain by tuesday night, near an inch. by the time we're done on thursday, we have lots of places, according to this particular model, up over two
