morning, it's gone. 60 degrees in philadelphia now. now 70 in parts of delaware. of course it's very humid and we're going to see that threat of showers and storms through much of the night tonight. but by tomorrow morning, as you can see, it is dry, temperatures unseasonably mild, throughout the area, throughout the night. so you're definitely not going to need any kind of coats throughout the night tonight. but we also have issues with fog. sheena parveen has more on that. >> a lot of you have noticed that the fog has not cleared today, some areas we have seen mild visibility, then some improvement, but those clouds have hung around the area through the afternoon. right there you see it from our camera, looking at center city, we have very low clouds here, you can't even see the skyline, so that just shows you we still have the fog afternoon in the

area. visibility at philadelphia international, zero visibility. look at coatesville, zero miles visibility, many areas in the lehigh valley are seeing big improvements today. blue bell coming in at a mile and a half of visibility. wilmington, not too long ago was at a half mile visibility, now up to 3, so that's an improvement. but if you're in tom's river, there are some areas of dense, patchy fog. we're not going to see that dense fog like we saw earlier this morning, in fact we're going to get some improvements mostly during the early a.m. tomorrow. we expect perfectly clear conditions, that's after another round of showers and possibly storms late tonight. coming up glenn will show you a closer look at timing on that.

very high profile investigation and the announced of a reward totaling $45,000 for the person who killed jiana powell. this is an image of the silver altima. witnesses and the victim's siblings toad police that a silver car hit her. they then tell her the driver sped off toward 63rd and market and vanished. police sources also tell us the car resembling the car being used in the hit and run was driven to fraser for repairs. sources also tell us next police will tow the car to philadelphia, a search warrant will be obtained and then attempts to match car fragments left at the scene with the

suspicious car. they will then interview all drives associated with the car. you may recall, jianna's older brother who was holding her can says he thought it was a man driving the car. that's why everyone associated with the car will be investigated. we'll have all developments for you as soon as they happen. >> could be a big break in that case. now back to our breaking news out of philadelphia, a toddler found dead in tside a kensington home. >> i know you found out the 2-year-old's mother and her boyfriend are being questioned in this case? >> reporter: yeah, at this hour, homicide detectives are interviewing the boy's mother and her boyfriend but sources are telling us tonight they are being uncooperative. the 2-year-old suffered some bleeding and internal injuries

and this case is being called a suspicious death. >> she don't deserve that. >> reporter: the god mother of little zair told us outside the rooming house where the 2-year-old was found unresponsive. a 911 call came from the home in kensington this morning. zai zaire's mother and her boyfriend was holding the boy. family, neighbors and friends are trying to make sense of it all as crime scene investigators combthrough the second floor of the home where little zaire is expected to spend his last moments. >> she needs to confess, let us know what happened, like don't hide nothing. >> reporter: neighbors tell me that zaire's mother posted a picture of her dead son on

social media within hours of his passing. now detectives are in the middle of their investigation. so far no arrests have been made, but we will keep you posted on the latest on this investigation. severe storms slammed into parts of the southeast last night, killing five people, injuring more than a dozen others in tennessee. a couple died when their house was hit in what what was possibly a tornado. reports of tornadoes came in from at least six different areas, but storms also brought some relief today to parts of tennessee dealing with deadly wildfires. rain from thunderstorms helped first responders around gatlinburg helped the fire from spreading even more. right now a mandatory evacuation is in place as firefighters continue to douse hot spots. rvels. it was a story that made

national headlines, a wife begging police not to shoot her black husband. keith stock was gunned down by police. let's go to keith jones right now in the breaking news center. >> reporter: jackie, the district attorney announced that officer brently vincent acted correctly. we warn you, these images play be disturbing. >> keith, don't you do it. did you shoot him? >> scott's wifr recoe recorded whole thing on her cell phone and could be heard shouting at both her husband and police. the district attorney said scott failed to comply with police demands and that scott was armed, a claim that scott's family denies. >> the shooting front page protests, riots and

demonstrations. officers, officials are concerned this morning's announcement could prompt another round of upset today. >> it is my opinion that officer vincent acted lawful when he shot mr. scott. he acted lawful. >> the da said lab analysis of a gun found at the scene had scotts dna and fingerprints on it. despite the ruling, scott's family is calling for peace. >> what we ask that public withhold a judgment they would make, be considerate of this family, we implore everyone, protest, protest peacefully. >> the family also says despite the fact that scott likely had a gun, it is still considering prosecution.

okay. now to the transition to trump and word today the president-elect plans to exit from his company's business operations to avoid a conflict of interest. this morning mr. donald trump tweeted that he's leaving his, quote, great business so he can focus on being president. his children will be with him at the news conference that's scheduled for december 15. the president-elect also added more people to his team. he named former goldgoldman-sac- he did meet with mitt romney for the second time during this dinner last night in new york. romney praised mr. donald trump saying he has increasing hope that the president-elect will lead the country to a better future. in congress, nancy pelosi will keep her job as minority leader. she's been the democratic leader in congress since 2002.

in delaware, the ymca that serves most of north wilmington is about to get much bigger. today executives announced a $5 million expansion, it will be home to a new fitness center, there will also be a new area for youth and teen programs, more areas for group fitness classes and fitness equipment for people with special challenges. >> children and adults who are intellectually children, have the opportunity to get in that pool with great staff, get exercise, have fun. >> this ymca has been part of the north wilmington community since 1995. the pilot of the doomed airplane carrying a brazilian soccer team ran out of fuel, according to an audiotape leaked to colombian journalists. 71 people died when the jet

crashed into a mountain in the andes. in the recording from the air traffic tower, the pilot can be heard asking to land because of an electrical failure and a lack of fuel. brazil had declared three days of mourning. today the vatican paid tribute to the crash victims. he also recalled a similar tragedy back in 1949 when 31 players from the gran torino somer team were killed in a plane crash. isis is taking credit for the terrible stabbing attack at ohio state university by a somali refugee who should not have been in our country. meanwhile three of the 11 people injured in that attack are still in the hospital. all of the three are doing well

through the evening and there will be no fog problems during tomorrow morning's rush. we do have showers and thunderstorms tonight, keep the umbrellas handy, even if you don't need them right now, because it is going to rain, and we have gusts of 35 miles an hour coming in during the day on thursday. those strong winds are going to break up some of this fog and it's still not exactly great driving conditions, but it was worse than this early in the day, that's i-95 in south philly. you can see just the cloud cover across much of our area now, but there's more rain off to the west and that's going to be coming in during the night tonight. so we're in a lull at the moment, but take a look at all that moisture that has to come through before we can start clearing out. we still have low visibilities in coatesville and chester county. zero visibility blue bell's back down below 2 miles, allentown was up to 6 miles.

at philly international, two and a half miles, and that is better than it was earlier and much of delaware and south jersey is better, but atlantic city, toms river, right along the coastline, pretty dense fog there as well. 60 degrees in philadelphia, way above average, and close to 70 in parts of delaware. we have fog through a good portion of the area, but not as bad in the lehigh valley. those temperatures, i was telling you the last couple of days, parts of the area were going to get to 70 degrees today. farther to the south, we have got some 70s, harrington, ellendale, georgetown, lincoln and they did get into the low 70s in parts of the area. a few showers, maybe some thunderstorms this evening coming through the area, and look how mild it is, temperatures may actually go up for several hours here and then in the middle of the night, we

have showers and storms coming through with the actual cold front, but by tomorrow morning, it's still warm, but there's no fog, there's no showers, no rain tomorrow at all. watch this as we go through the night tonight. very mild temperatures. and we have got the rain. 9:00, still threats of showers and storms just about everywhere. midnight, showers and storms, mild weather just about everywhere. but by tomorrow morning, no rain, no fog, it's not that cool, but the temperatures really aren't going to be rising too much during the day, so tomorrow afternoon is going to be a whole lot cooler than this afternoon. we'll get into the weekend and beyond a little bit later. check out this holiday picture from an nbc10 viewer.

kensington yesterday. the boy who neighbors tell naha consistent with abuse. this next nbc10 responds involves dna test results which never arrived until we got involved. >> reporter: bertha alvarez was shopping in greenville, delaware one day when she came across a man who looked very much like a along lost family member. and do you really think he's your nephew? >> the gentleman she spotted had a stark resemblance to her nephew's son. after going off to work in the fields, his family lost contact with the nephew. now more than a decade later, she came across this man in

delaware, when she approached him, she found another complication, he had suffered a gra bla brain aneurism that left him unable to spike burks she alvarez's cousin who could be the man's father, came from mexico to do a paternal dna test which usually takes three to five days to complete the lab work. the results never arrived. for weeks she called jacl medical services but was told the lab results weren't ready. that's when she called nbc10 responds. we called the lab and on her form was incorrect so it went to another house. alvarez received her answer sleet via certified mail.

delaware is doing okay and the rest of south jersey is doing okay. we're 59 degrees, we were 60 for most of the day. and parts of delaware were actually up near 70 degrees. and right at the beaches in new jersey, it's only in the 50s because of the wind off that 51-degree ocean. dennis township, fine, 56 in holegate fentner at 59 degrees. the wind direction, it's coming out of the south, and the moisture out of the east training right across philadelphia and that's where the rain is going to be concentrated this evening and just north of that line. as we go through the evening, remember that line right through philadelphia just to the north, that's where they're sieeing th heaviest rain during the evening

hours. and the showers and storms are going to be coming through much of the area, maybe in the middle of the night, could even be some rumbles of thunder, but there will be no rain, no fog tomorrow morning. totally different type of day. and in philadelphia where it's 59 now. look at the temperatures during the day tomorrow, hardly budges and look at these sustained winds, 20, 22 miles an hour, it is going to be a very windy day tomorrow. over the weekend, we're going to be seeing dry weather as you can see, temperatures dropping a little every day and so it's not exactly going to be 60 like it is today, but it's not going to be raining, it's not going to be foggy there,'s the wind for tomorrow. there the temperatures gradually going down as we go through the weekend. then we have some wet weather in the middle of the week, and with that, here comes winter.
