the 14-year-old who was shot and killed earlier this week. i'm jim rosenfield. the teen's mom spoke to nbc10's brandon hudson at tonight's vigil. he's joining us live at philadelphia police headquarters with the latest on this shooting. >> reporter: jim, we came here to headquarters to get the latest on this homicide. so far police have no arrests at this time. the 14-year-old's mother says she knows who killed her son and is urging them to turn themselves in. >> he was very tight with me. >> reporter: days after ian was shot and killed, the pain is still raw for his mother, kelly. surrounded by family and friends, kelly spoke to nbc10 before a vigil for her son in mayfair. a tragic loss weeks before christmas. kelly says her 14-year-old son was a popular student at northeast high school. >> he smiled a lot. very well liked, played a lot of football and sports.

loved rap music. >> reporter: philadelphia police say on monday night, someone shot and killed ian while trying to rob him. it happened on brous avenue. >> your child doesn't have to be into anything to get shot and killed anymore. it's just happening. >> reporter: trisha torres organized tonight's vigil. torres says she's tired of seeing children, including ian, gunned down. >> somebody out there knows something, and now they now that we're out here looking for answers. please speak up. please speak up. >> reporter: while no one is in custody, investigators are looking for two men. ian's mom is urging them to go to police. >> they know who they are, and they sleep in their beds and night, and they see their mother, and they see their father, and i don't see mine. i don't see my baby. >> reporter: ian was killed weeks before his 15th birthday. live at philadelphia police

headquarters, i'm brandon hudson, nbc10 news. new at 11:00, a man is in the hospital tonight ar this house fire. the fire broke out around 6:00 tonight in the 7600 block of gilbert street. firefighters got it under control a short time later. it wasn't until close to 7:00 that an unconscious man was found inside the house. tonight there's no word on his condition. and we have this just in. a wanted sex assault suspect is now in police custody in south jersey. police say andre westly was taken into custody after 9:00 tonight at his willingboro home. this was just hours after police asked for the public's health to find him. police believe he approached a woman in this white van sunday evening in camden, then forced her to go to a nearby parking lot, where he sexually assaulted her. to our first alert weather now, and a chilly night out there. outside your window right now, people are bundled up along broad and spruce streets in

center city tonight. temperatures are dipping ahead of your weekend, and meteorologist sheena parveen is tracking just how cold it's going to be in your first alert neighborhood forecast. >> the wind is making it feel quite a bit colder outside. temperatures are in the 40s. 43 philadelphia. 42 allentown, 42 in wilmington. mount holly is at 43 degrees. when you factor in the wind, temperatures actually feel like the 30s. so when you walk outside, it feels like 35 in philadelphia. feels like 32 in coatesville. mount pocono feeling like 23 degrees. that's the difference that the wind is making right now. but as we go through the overnight hours, still going to be breezy, still cold. tomorrow will be a sunny start to the day but cold and windy as we go through the afternoon. morning temperatures by 7:30 tomorrow morning, 34 degrees, quakertown. 36, wilmington. if you're in exton, 33 degrees. philadelphia, 37. and if you're in reading, temperatures starting off the day will be in the mid-30s. coming up we'll take a look at your weekend forecast. that's straight ahead.

now to the latest on the transition to president-elect trump. today mr. trump made a move bringing a strong reaction tonight from china. he spoke with taiwan's president. the president-elect tweeted tonight that the taiwanese leader called him to wish him congratulations on winning the presidency. it's a highly unusual move for a u.s. president or president-elect to speak with the leader of taiwan. the united states hasn't had diplomatic ties since 1979. that's when the u.s. began operating under a so-called one china policy with beijing seen as representing both china and taiwan. and tonight china sent an official response to mr. trump, to his call with taiwan saying it firmly opposes any official interaction or military cooperation between the u.s. and taiwan. president-elect trump's lead is pennsylvania is shrinking tonight as more counties finish counting the last of l day ballots. updated results from today show mr. trump's lead sha rifrpging to 49,000 from 71,000 over

hillary clinton. meanwhile, philadelphia completed a recount of some city votes today that found no issues with the original tally. nbc10 was there as election officials opened voting machines and reprinted the receipts with the tabulated votes in wis ahicken earlier today. voters petitioned for a recount after citing possible concerns with the equipment. >> these minutes don't have any way for voters to make sure that the votes are being counted correctly. >> and then there's the recount request for the entire state of pennsylvania. on monday, a court hearing scheduled to determine whether that can move forward. and there are two more recount efforts in other states. president-elect trump has filed a lawsuit to stop the recount in michigan. that's scheduled to start next week. his lawyers call that recount a, quote, wild goose chase. and in wisconsin, a federal court has rejected an attempt by pro-trump groups to stop a recount there. wisconsin began its recount yesterday. hillary clinton lost to trump in

that state by about 22,000 votes. now to a story you saw first on nbc10. a gang war in atlantic county. sources believe tensions between rival drug gangs are to blame for at least three recent murders there. >> are you hit? >> no. >> okay, okay. it's okay, ma'am. all right. is there anybody else in the car with you? >> yes, my aunt and my 3-year-old son. >> that's the 911 call from an average shoot-out on the atlantic city expressway back in august. five people were shot. one killed. and several charged. sources tell nbc10 now investigators believe the shoot-out is connected to at least two other atlantic county homicides. the first happened outside hamilton mall early black friday morning, and the second wednesday night in a housing complex next to the mall. no one has been arrested in the most recent shootings. and also new tonight from delaware county, one person's recovering after being hit by a

trolley in springfield. skyforce10 was over the scene around 8:30 tonight. we're told two people were walking near these tracks on route 102. one of them was hit by the trolley and taken to the hospital but is expected to survive. the other person wasn't hurt, and neither was anyone on the trolley. in the lehigh valley, an entire block in allentown a burned out mess tonight. people who lived here went back to their homes on fulton street today to try to grab what they could. more than half dozen old row homes were gutted and nearly destroyed by a massive fire we showed you last night. and here's the scene from last night. the fire jumped from home to home, torching six in all. two others were damaged by smoke and water. fortunately, no one was hurt. despite losing almost all of their belongings, victims say it could have been much worse. >> main thing is that, you know, we made it out. nobody died. nobody got hurt. you know, of course it hurts because we have a lot of personal belongings there. >> the red cross is helping the

displaced families tonight, but it's likely none will be able to spend the holidays at home. new jersey drivers may have to start pumping their own gas. the state's lieutenant governor says that could happen if the minimum wage goes up. there's a fight to get the minimum wage up from $8.38 an hour, to $15. but the lieutenant governor says that new rate could force companies to cut some hourly jobs like gas attendants and fast food workers. the vote to raise the wage is likely to be on the ballot in new jersey next fall. the giant christmas tree is shining tonight at the blue cross river rink on penn's landing. you're looking live at the rink tonight. still open for late night skaters. just a beautiful sight. tonight live on nbc10, you saw the grand lighting of the tree for the very first time this holiday season. ♪ i want to wish up a merry christmas ♪ >> everyone in the spirit at the blue cross river rink. vai and tracy had the moves off

(avo) the subaru share the love event is happening now and will have given ninety million dollars to help real people like these. jury deliberations will resume monday in the murder trial of a white former south carolina police officer accused of shooting an unarmed black man. earlier today jurors said they were hopelessly deadlocked in michael slager's trial. he's charged in the death of walter scott. he was shot five times in the back as he ran from a traffic stop last year. the incident caught on camera. jurors have deliberated for more than 16 hours over three days. in camden tonight, police

are trying to track down the rightful owners of nearly 100 stolen bikes after uncovering a bicycle burglary ring. the bikes were found in the basement of a corner store on broadway last month. detectives also found dozens of stolen electronics. they believe a ring of crooks has been stealing and selling the merchandise for some time now. if you believe one of the bikes belongs to you, police would like to see proof, like a receipt, a serial number, or a warranty. new at 11:00, military families are returning from philadelphia to their new jersey base tonight with some very happy kids in the car. tonight the philly pops and our parent company, comcast nbc universal put on the annual salute to the military holiday concert. nbc10's drew smith was there just before the show with a surprise so big it definitely did not fit under the tree. >> reporter: when the children of all these men and women in uniform headed down from new jersey's joint base maguire, all they planned for was some holiday music.

moments like this. >> this is my first time having christmas and thanksgiving with my family in the last five years. so it is pretty amazing. >> reporter: some tires, pedals, and handlebars, just a small way to say thanks to the families who give so much. at the kimmel center, drew smith, nbc10 news. and for one south jersey community, nothing says christmastime quite like cheese. the crowds were out tonight for the annual giant provolone-cutting ceremony at this market in hammonton, atlantic county, after the 1,000-pound block of cheese was cut, folks got the chance to try it and buy some it. the cheese cutting ceremony has been a holiday tradition since 2007. take a look at this delaware county house. definitely in the holiday spirit. skyforce10 over this home in springfield tonight, where they spared no expense decking the halls this year, did they, sheena? and a dry night for the holiday festivities tonight, but cold. >> you'll need your sunglasses

for that one. looks nice, though. and boat house row looking really nice in this picture as . as we go into tomorrow morning, make sure you have a heavier coat. tomorrow morning and sunday morning, we're going to be in the 30s. yes, it's going to feel a little bit more like winter. but by the afternoon, we're not going to be cold. but we are going to be chilly and a little bit colder than today through part of the area. the good news is your weekend will be nice and dry. now we do have the next chance of rain coming next week, and after that, we're looking at some really big changes in our weather pattern. and we are talking about winter-like temperatures as we go into the afternoon. i'll show you that with the ten-day in just a second. right now if feels like the mid-30s outside. with the wind we have in place, actual temperatures are in the 40s, but that's what it feels like when you step outside. and it's going to be in the 30s again when you wake up. also breezy. today we got to 51 degrees. over the weekend i mentioned it's going to be chillier. 49 is where we should be this time of the year. so 49 for a high tomorrow. 47 on sunday.

by next week, we're back into the mid-50s. by tuesday, that is going to come with some rain, though, and then by friday, that's when we're going to get the blast of cold air. locally we're nice and dry. some lake-effect snow showers toward north and west. those are not going to reach here, though. they're going to stay primarily up toward north and west. poconos could see a few flurries. by tomorrow afternoon, another dry day with temperatures topping out in the upper 40s, and same thing on sunday. we'll be seeing highs in the 40s but still a dry day. now we go into sunday night, and there is going to be one small weather system trying to get closer. i think there is a chance that part of the lehigh valley and the poconos could see a few flakes. shouldn't be a big deal, though. then we go into next week, and we have some rain chances. here is a look now at future temperatures. this is going to start this sunday. so we know it's going to be cold already, but watch this arctic air mass drop down from canada. here's friday. we're talking about a week from today. look at all this air. it's spilling into the southeast, even florida is going

to get unseasonably cold. and it's going to sit over our area friday, even saturday, possibly sunday, finally moving back up monday. but it is going to get much colder as we go into the end of next week. for this weekend, though, 49 for a high saturday for philadelphia. if you are in south jersey, 48 degrees. sunday, 47 for a high. if you're along the jersey shore, temperatures in the upper 40s. pennsylvania suburbs, mid- 40s on sunday going into monday. we're back around 50 degrees, but we could see some very early showers monday morning. here is the ten-day forecast. i mentioned the big cool down coming. so there you see next week. we have a couple rain chances, and then friday is the day where we start to see some big changes. so thursday, showers, 55 degrees. look at friday. that's a high temperature of 39 degrees. it's going to be blustery. so very windy and cold. the winds are going to make it feel much colder than 39 degrees. and across next weekend, it looks like our highs are going to only be topping out in the low 40s. well, the eagles will be bat
