it will be colder and windier as we go into the beginning of the weekend. it is 42 degrees, cloudy skies. we have clouds across the entire area. we also have stuff on radar. you can see all of the cloud cover. sprinkles here, not necessarily reaching the grounds in many areas but delaware and upper montgomery county. we'll keep our eye on this the temperature is way above freezing here. nothing would stick, a different story though. we have arctic air mass coming this by from the coldest temperatures plus very low

a drive-by shooting in west philadelphia. the corner of 52rd street is very busy. it is well lit. there are lots of businesses there on that corner. the man was simply standing on the street corner when a car drove up and someone started shooting. we have an update on a story we have been following. police say a man has died at the hospital. this is a homicide investigation. police are looking for the shooter. philadelphia police have one man in custody after they say two men ran from this overturned car. this crash happened some time after 4:00 a. police tell us they suspect the man in custody may have been drooiiving under

influence. we expect to find out about funeral arrangements today for fallen new jersey state trooper fa frankie williams. trooper williams died in a crash monday night. the other driver, 61-year-old ruddily was also killed. the vigil will be held tonight. new this morning the fbi and police department are offering a $10,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest of a serial bank robber. three times during a four month span in 2013.

each time he gestured that he had a gun. he never actually showed a weapon. if you have any information about the robberies or you recognize this man you're asked to call the philadelphia police. callers can remain unanimous. police looking for these two men who attacked a woman as they stole her purse. she was standing on north 68 ts stre 68th street. she struggled to hold onto it and the men punched her. they took her purse which contained $800, her id and credit cards. one of the robbers wore a blue villanova sweatshirt. if you have any information police want to hear from you. police returned to the home of a local pediatrician facing porn charges. they took boxes of evidence out of the apartment of dr. david kennedy. kennedy, who has an office in

montgomery county was arrested. investigators also searched a home in connection to the case. it's not clear what they were looking for. this morning some parents are concerned telling students not to drink the water there. a parent who wanted to remain anonymous sent us this video. the district is working with the health department to figure out what's causing the discoloration. they have said the water is safe for hand and dish washing. food is being prepared at a different location and the school is bringing in bottled water for drinking. tonight wilmington city council will consider asking the state for money to keep a fire truck in operation. it would request $300,000 to keep fire engine 6 rolling.

some critics have said that practice known as rolling bipasses has been costly in wilmington. last week hope died from her injuries suffered in the same fire. that night the closest engine to the scene had been shut down in order to save money. a north jersey man asking a judge to reconsider her rejection of a special prosecutor. on friday the judge ruled against the man's criminal complaint. that accuses the governor of failing to order his to resoap access claims in 2013. three foreman allies pleaded guilty in the bridge scandal. christie was never charged. kimmller on the loose.

this morning a search far gunmanintensifies. he is accused of killing one officer and critically injuring another. they raised the reward hours after asking him to turn himself in. >> it is to end this in a peaceful manner. >> outside the police station communities gathered to honor a four year veteran of the america's police force that was fatally shot. they also prayed for jody smith. she out of surgery. his condition is unknown. the manhunt began when two officers responded to a domestic

disturbance call. >> this is a very dangerous individual. we need to have him off the streets. >> police say he is also wanted on kidnapping and other charges. this morning more than 200 officers across different agencies are joining the search. >> it's a tragedy beyond words. >> the reward for information leading to the suspect has been raised to $70,000. we are learning this morning that the two officers were not only colleagues but lifelong friends who attended the police academy together. kerry kandesanders, nbc news. president-elect donald trump heads to come llumbus today. a student drove his car into a group and stabbed several people there. campus police shot and killed

mike pence will visit pennsylvania one week from today. they will thank voters next thursday night. mr. trump plans to visit michigan and louisiana. and this just in, the u.s. geological survey, a quake off the coast of northern california. it hit just over an hour ago, about 100 miles west of california in the pacific ocean. as of know there's no tsunami threat from the earthquake. we have cloudy skies.

they will get natural snow before the weekend is out. we have one very weak system moving there you. clouds in central pennsylvania and a few sprinkles from portions of philadelphia area down through southern chester county. most of that not reaching the ground. could be a few sprinkles or snow flurries in some of the northern areas. temperatures are way above the freezing mark right now. they will not be rising a lot during the day. they are in the low 40s in delaware. 40 in milton. it's a chilly day. average high in the upper 40s. we may not get there today. the clouds, they may be moving out as we go through the afternoon. expect increased sunshine north and west.

as we go through the night tonight and into tomorrow morning we are really going to be seeing these temperatures go down. the wind is going to pick up and it's really going to start feeling cold as we go through the day tomorrow. you can see tomorrow temperatures not even getting to 40 degrees in most of the area. there is friday night and into saturday morning but we don't see any precipitation during that period. get a load of this. future feels like temperature for friday morning, 10 in philadelphia, 9 in westchester. we haven't seen air this cold so far this season. during the day tomorrow it's not going feel any warmer than the low to mid-20s. so that's the first arctic air mass that's coming in. you probably have seen pictures of some blizzard conditions in the rockies.

we are getting a prgs ortion oft arctic air. it will be with us for a while. another even colder air mass coming in next week, next wednesday and into thursday making what we see tomorrow seem like nothing. here is tomorrow's planner, cold to start with and temperatures not going up much plus wind on top of this. i don't expect any kind of precipitation expect perhaps a few snow flurries from the lake effect snow that will be coming. as you can see, temperatures struggling to get to the 40s about any where in the area. parts of new jersey well down into the 20s. we have colder air on the way. the weekend forecast, it's cold, certainly dry on saturday. as you can see, high of 38 in

philadelphia. on sunday we have got another system moving in later in the day and into the night. i'm expecting a little bit of rain coming into philadelphia. the pa suburbs to the north and west i'm expecting a mixture, snow, sleet, a little bit of light rain. isn't the lehigh valley it would be mostly snow. as you can see, we look at different neighborhoods differently. we have neighborhood weather. as we get into wintertime there will be huge differences from one neighborhood to another. tomorrow high of only 39 and windy. high of only 38 on saturday. remember, saturday morning it will be very cold. sunday the rain comes late in the day or at night. we could even see a bit of a mixture in philadelphia early monday morning. another system coming on wednesday as the next round of

instagram really rallied to come together and donate. >> you're fostering a pet here with the city of elderly love. tell us about brownie and tell us how this whole thing works as a foster mom. >> absolutely. this is brownie. she is an 11-year-old mi mini poodle. as a foster parent city of elderly love pulls from local philadelphia animal shelters and places them in foster homes. as a foster parent you're supposed to take them to vet appointments and make sure they are able to find their forever home. >> and as a child did you grow up with pets? >> yes. we always had dogs and outdoor cats. this is something that is new to me. it has been a ton of fun.

get ready for temperatures to take a nose dive. an arctic blast is heading our time just in time for the weekend. nbc 10 glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here with that forecast. hey, glenn. >> yeah. it's already kind of chilly. we are going to add wind on top of that and drop the temperatures. the combination is not going to be real comfortable. it is cloudy and 42 degrees. we have clouds just about through the entire area. as you can see there are returns on radar that would suggest it is raining just about everywhere. a lot of this is not reaching the ground. may be a few sprinkles here. delaware towards new castle county as we go through the next hour or so. this is all moving to the east.

so any sprinkles are not going to last very long and temperatures way above freezing, so you don't have to worry about the roads getting anything other than a little bit damp. it is 42 in wilmington. you're going to long for the numbers. the arctic air, some of it is bringing brutal temperatures to the northern rockies. it's going to be effecting us much of the weekend. we'll see how cold it is going to get. an even colder blast coming up in the ten day. >> thank you. you'll want to make sure your home will stay safe and dry. matt delucia picked up tips. >> reporter: it is already pretty chilly outside. at the risk of sounding cliche, winter is coming.

it could cause big problems if you're not ready. >> once the temperature starts to drop it starts to pick up for us. >> reporter: they know what can happen when the pipes get too cold. they see it too often. good for their business but bad for you. this is an example of what happens when a pipe breaks on a count of cold weather. the clean-up can be long and tedio tedious. the thing to focus on is your pipes and gutters and windows, making sure they are sealed. it is also vacation seat belson. there is something wig to keep in mind. >> you need to leave your heat on 50, 55 degrees or so. >> it could save you thousands of dollars in repairs down the road. nbc 10 news.

and lots of people woke up to lake effect snow this morning. we report from a very cold chicago. >> reporter: the first major blast of super frosty air this season has crossed the border from canada revealing a sudden new reality this morning. winter has come a knocking early and it is packing a punch. already over a foot of snow and still a mountain of problems. >> we are trying to get that cleared out. >> near white out conditions. in kansas city sidewalks made an uneasy commute and ice in orlando se oregon. >> just turn a 180.

the senate passed the medical funding bill. it pays to fight opiod abuse. you're taking a look right there. the measure pays for vice president joe biden's moon shot initiative. a portion was named in honor of beau. beau biden's son passed away from cancer last year. jack marqu -- markell opens international disability employment summit in washington. is summit brings together corporate leaders, educators and officials who aim to increase

employment opportunities for people with disabilities. vergara is being sued. this is the latest twist in her legal battle with her former boyfriend. they haven't been together since 2014. she is now married to joe manganello. it refers to the embryos as emma and isabel la and is the latest twist over the future of their embryos. it asks for him to receive full custody and seeks to define vergara as an egg donor. loeb apparently thinks that will will garner sympathy from the public. the statement noting that the eggs are still preembryo owe goes on if it is really a family

loeb wants he should create one without dragging her through another unnecessary legal battle. a trust was created in louisiana which has laws that allow an embryo to sue a person. the suit claims that by preventing them from being born vergara is depriving the future children of their inheritance. >> the state of louisiana is very pro-life. while it might seem like an extreme case a louisiana judge could say i will protect the lives of these two embryos. >> loeb told me these embryos are his highest priority. >> they are already alive. they are on a journey and pathway to being born. why go the other way? we are talking about equal rights. we should be airing on the side of life. >> loeb admits when they tried

well, for the first time since 1993 the u.s. life expectancy has dropped. someone born last year is expected to live until they are 78.8 years old. it dipped slightly from the year before when life expectancy was 78.9. the u.s. surgeon general worns e-cigarettes are a growing

nbc 10 news. the philadelphia eagles are still reeling from the loss from the bengals and there's been a lot of talk this week. dave is here this morning. it probably stems from two things. zach basically diving and not taking on a line backer. so doug had to respond to it. let's listen to his comment about it. here is what peterson, his response to the issue of effort in his press conference. >> not everybody, and that's the accountability i talk about.

i im -- it's not a panic move or anything like that but make sure everybody is doing things right, do their jobs. do their assignments and good things are going to happen. >> when he was pressed on it later he came back, did everybody go all out and he said no. not really. >> these are tough times. eagles have seven losses in the last nine games. i don't question the effort. i question the energy. i question the urgency and the desperation. you have to play desperate football. for whatever reason they went into cincinnati feeling they could take control of the game against a team that didn't have green and their best running back but it didn't happen. so a rocokie head coach needs t get maximum urgency.

and eeagles didn't play that wa. >> yeah. we'll get back to doug peterson but i want to talk about carson wentz and how it's impacting him in his development. you look at a guy like troy aikman. he didn't have any effect on him and his hall of fame career. how do you see this losing and what it's doing to carson's development as a young quarterback? >> i think he will be a super star quarterback for years to come. i think he has the right mental approach. he is physically gifted. he loves the game of football. the biggest hindrance was the loss of johnson. he can't step into his throws.

we know the receivers are not creating as much separation as we would like to see. it is a tough time for carson. he never experienced this but i like this way he carries himself on a daily basis. i can tell you internally while everyone is questioning the mechanics, i know one coach said to me he has never seen a quarterback at this stage of his career that he has worked with -- and he worked with great ones, who is as far advanced. we just don't see the results right now. >> i think in the long run he will be okay. let's talk about the effect of this losing streak and how it will effect doug peterson. i maintain that 12 games is too small still but the effects of how the players play, they go out there and they get blown out this week and the week after it's not going to go well.

sprinkles over the philadelphia area and towards wilmington. most places reporting the cloudy skies. could be sprinkles under that though. the temperature is well above the freezing mark. it is 42 degrees. it is 44 in parkwood. you'll long for those temperatures in the next couple of days. here is the feels like temperatures. this afternoon upper 20s to low 30s. not exactly warm. again, you'll warm for this. by tonight you're heading out late tonight you bundle up. we have windchills in the teens. by tomorrow morning it's feeling like it's 9, 10, 11 degrees depending where you are. during the afternoon tomorrow the best we can get is 22, 23

degrees. then tomorrow night and into saturday morning once again, feeling like 12, 13, 14 degrees. that is cold. it will stay with us through the weekend. so it's not just the temperature. look at the wind. that is philadelphia tomorrow. a fair amount of sunshine to start the day. those are sustained winds, 16, 17, 19 miles per hour. we can see gusts over 30 and the temperature barely gets to 40 degrees. some models show it may not even get to that. here is the arctic air just getting ready to come in. it's not quite here yet. it's not the core of the arctic air like getting up near the canadian border but it's cold enough. really cold air over the warm great lakes will create lake effect snows. we get another arctic blast next

week that's even colder than this one. again, we are setting up in a pattern that is more cold. once in a while we warm up and also precipitation in the middle. that's what we are starting to see in the weekend forecast. saturday it's looking dry. a high of 38 in philadelphia. it is 37 in the lehigh valley. thursday the clouds increase. expect some light rain in the philadelphia, very late in the day or into sunday night. pa suburb, a mixture of rain and snow. lehigh valley a mix of rain and snow, other areas the rain. that's one of a few chances. not big storms we are talking about. there is the wind on friday. we have that late sunday night
