snow and ice, a winter blast is about to hit our area. we have your first alert coverage of the dangerous conditions. juror under fire. what one man who was tossed from the jury promised to do and what it means for an appeal. tribute to iverson, the special honor tonight for the 76ers legend. zbla nbc 10 news starts now. first, tonight, winter blast a one-two punch of snow and ice is moving in, the impacts will be felt all over our area from philadelphia to new jersey. go good evening. >> the dangerous mix will be impacting us overnight and many of you will be waking up to the cold blast. we have team coverage of the

frigid weather and drew smith has more on what's being done. but we begin with first alert meteorologist sheena parveen. >> the snow is getting closer to us. anything on the radar right now, locally, is not really hitting the ground but we expect it to really ramp up in the next hour or two. there's a look at the current radar. snow, ice and rain off to our west. first alert for the snow ice for philadelphia, new jersey and northern delaware. briefly with the icing. for pennsylvania, berks county, that ice is going to last a little bit longer. treacherous conditions tomorrow morning. it's going to start now until saturday morning. first alert starts for the early-morning hours of saturday for accumulating snow and an icy mix and that will cause slippery roads. very dangerous driving conditions. we don't want you to be on the road until this whole thing

comes to an end. here's what it looks like, this is 6:00 a.m. tomorrow, snow will be falling across part of a good portion tomorrow morning. northern delaware, chester county through the philadelphia area even our superior neighborhoods in new jersey that will be ice. very dangerous on the roads. that ice will move into the pennsylvania such uburbs, berks county included. that ice will continue moving farther to the north. rain down to the south. snowing in the poconos. either way, dangerous travel. coming up a closer look at the timing throughout the rest of the day. tonight, road crews have a game plan to deal with the conditions as they change under the area. they spent much of the day filling trucks with salt and

getting everything ready for the snowfall. drew smith is joining us from winfield heights. drew? >> reporter: jim the threat is coming and coming soon. is this why this plow truck has pulled in alongside on i-76. scattered across our region ready for whatever falls during the overnight hours. the first significant winter weather always seems to sneak up on people. >> reminded me i have to pick up some new tires this weekend. they're low pressure right now as it is. >> reporter: but there's nothing last minute happening at places like this. >> we go through it ahead of time. >> reporter: road crews began anti-icing efforts yesterday until anticipation of tonight. >> lot of people are out celebrating. >> reporter: one the flakes begin to fall the salt trucks

his mind before considering all of his evidence. but they questioned whether the juror's dismissal could have influenced the outcome of the case. on june 15th. his former congressman was handed to a jury to deliberate. shouting between jurors began immediately behind closed doors. directed from or coming towards juror 12. they signed and delivered a note to court saying juror number 12 is argumentative. >> one particular jurors that's been obstructive. >> reporter: few hours into deliberations juror number 12 told the courtroom's deputy he would cause a hang jury. the issue according to the court

wasn't his stance but his inability early if process to deliberate. >> has not been involved with you the last day or so for deliberations it will necessary for you to begin your deliberations from scratch. >> reporter: that's the judge's instructions to the jury. fatah was ultimately convicted. they plan to bring it up in the appeal. the likely argument? >> but for the removal of this juror fatah may not have been found guilty. >> our calls to the juror weren't returned. new tonight, attorneys are asking a judge to dismiss the case against him. lawyers filed a motion citing

hack and said it contributed to the devicive atmosphere of the election. the president went on to defend the way his administration handled the initial response said he didn't want to appear to be influencing the election and now he said the u.s. will retaliate. >> what continues to send a clear message to russia or others not to do this to us because we can do stuff to you. >> the president went on to say that he was confident that the actual elections in the u.s. were not tampered with. new at 11, the city of wilmington has settled with a family of man who was shot and killed by police while in a wheelchair. we have learned that the city will pay the family $1.5 million. this was back in september of 2015. they received a 911 call about a man with a gun.

a live look at camelback mountain where the winter blast is kicking in. temperatures mrun zmrj yeah, snow and ice. big problem for many overnight and nbc 10 first alert meteorologist sheena parveen joining us for your full forecast. >> here's where the temperatures feel like, finally a it will bit of a break from the single digits. feeling like the teens and the 20s, actual temperatures are below freezing. so, anything that falls tonight will be snow and tomorrow morning we'll see a transition to ice. that's why we have a first alert. snow and ice for philadelphia, new jersey, northern delaware, also the pennsylvania suburbs and lehigh valley and really in the pennsylvania area that's where we expect the most icy especially through the lehigh valley. acouple lating snow to start. icy mix. that will create some dangerous

roads, slippery knts. we all know how dangerous is and it may be lasting for quite a few hours. here's a look at the radar, snow to our west. pink just below the snow that is ice, farther south that is rain and what the combination will look like across our area when it comes together. snow, ice and rain. some snow on the radar. none of this is really falling yet. within the next few hours that this will really start to organize. before sun set tomorrow we already have accumulating snow. 1:30 in the morning, showing a line of snow moving across the area. everybody's below freezing for the most part. 6:30 in the morning, snow widespread through pennsylvania, some of our new jersey neighborhoods. 7:30 the ice spreads for chester county, through philadelphia.

suburbs of pennsylvania, berks county. lehigh valley, still the pennsylvania suburbs to the south we have rain with temperatures starting to warm. closer to 9:30, lehigh valley still seeing ice. that's where we expect the most ice, upper bucks county, the big issue, too, parts of chester county temperatures, there, temperatures around freezing. rest of the area should be seeing a transition from ice to rain by 9:30. watch this, by 11:00, it quickly comes to an end, still raining in new jersey and delaware. a pretty long dry stretch through the afternoon, tomorrow evening and tomorrow night. sunday morning the rain comes back, look at the temperatures, though, near 60 degrees a very mixed bag of weather across the entire weekend. an inch or less for south new jersey and philadelphia.
