only from fios. we are following two breaking traffic stories that could impact how you get around today, plus, a would be robber picks the wrong person to target this morning and ends up in the hospital. what a philadelphia woman did tho make sure she was not the victim and for some, a formality. for other, a desperate last chance. electorals will formally elect donald trump for president as anti trump forces try to deny him the white house. first, the praeking news we are following. >> we're following two big issues for drivers and those on the rails. first, a truck fire blocks lanes and hampers traffic near downingtown. this is along the pennsylvania

turnpike. >> in montgomery county, major delays because of a wires down situation on the track near the jenkins town station. the wires caused a power problem that crews are trying to fix. let's get the latest with jessica. >> thanks, guys. this is video we were watching earli earlier over top of the scene. the fire on the eastbound side of the pa turnpike creating delays because of the road was closeded off and traffic was being diverted off. you can see the crawling behind it. good news as we go to the map, it's cleared out of the way. they just removed the tractor trailer from this area, but those delays remain. the eastbound side, 29. so alternates here. kind of the big one, but it's important and will help you get by this delay.

100 southbound to route 30, then to 202. that will take you up north. once you get back on itbound, you can enter the turnpike, now that it's open, it should be getting out of the way soon. watching the delays on the regional rails as well, this is when they last updated. due to these power problems we were dealing with, outbound train from the melrose and ellekin train, inbound service to center city was severely impacted. now, from airport line, we were dealing with two hour delays, but starting to see improvements and i'll update you when i come back in about a half hour. thanks. new this morning. a woman fights back against an alleged robber and he ends up in the hospital. it happened inside a save a lot store inside philadelphia. around 6:00 this morning. police say a 24-year-old man was shot in the leg by a woman as he

tried to rob her. the woman is not expected to face charges. this morning, we're learning more about a deadly crash involving a schoolbus. two people died when their cars slammeded into the bus last thigt. monique is live for us in north philadelphia with more on the victims in that crash. >> good morning. philadelphia accident investigators have not released the official cause of the accident, but i can tell you that right now, aig is working to identify the two people who passed away. investigators say two off duty philadelphia police officers saw the fiery crash that destroyed this 2000 mercedes. investigators say the driver and passenger died when the car slammed into an empty bus before 9:00 sunday night. the deceased people in their late 20s to early 30s died here at roosevelt and woodward. the bus was stopped at the red

light in the northbound lane when the mercedes careened into it became wedged under the bus and burst into flames. we spoke with a witness. >> i seen people running up to the car to try to get the person, try to get the car from catching on fire. and it was too late. they had to get the back up because it was so bad. >> the speed limit northbound on the roosevelt boulevard at this location is 45 miles per hour. however, according to witnesses, they believe that the vehicle was traveling in excess of 45 miles an hour. >> a short time ago, i spoeng with the 40-year-old driver of the schoolbus. she told me minutes earlier, she dropped off 28 teens after a church outing. the bus driver also told us i feel happy my life was saved. i feel born again. i am praying for the fam of the people who died. sad news to them. thanks to god for saving me. happy that i am alive.

at 11:30, witnesses who live in the area demand changes at the intersection. we'll have that for you. live for now, monique braxton, nbc 10 news. to south jersey, where an arson investigation is underway at a house in camden county where a person was injured last night. the fire broke out at the home on cross keys road in winslow township. medics took the victims to the hospital. we're working to find out more details, including the person's condition. in burlington county, 70 residents of an assisted living condition are safe after a fire. it broke out after 4:00 this morning at the facility on north church street. it started in the basement utility room. first responders helped move the residence to another part of the building. >> frigid cold temperatures across the area. temperatures below freezing as we take a live look at center

city. philadelphia. flag just blowing there. we have a look at the forecast. >> as promised, big changes compared to yesterday where we were seeing temperatures in the 50s and 60s. now, we're looking at feels like temperatures in the teens to low 20s outside. 20 degrees what it feels like in philadelphia. northeast philadelphia, at 19 and redding, the same. same for potts town, 19. look at mt. pocono. now, the it's 4 degrees from what it feels like due to light to breezy winds picking up, then the very cold air that's settle nd behind the cold front that moved through yesterday. here's what we're looking at. the rain has long moved off east of us and now, we're actually dealing with just spotty clouds and clear conditions and you look to the west, nothing heading our way. so, finally, we're trafing more mild conditions. and high pressure starting to build in, which means a warm up for our temperatures. not today though. we stay cold. in fact, right now, we're still

at 29 degrees. some parts across the region may not make it above freezing today. looking temperatures around 32 degrees in philadelphia. i'm expecting a a high of 34 degrees meaning cold across the map and winds will start to weaken later in the later part of today. coming up, the forecast for today, the change in the next several days. happening now, attorney general loretta lynch is making her first visit to delaware. they're talking about juvenile justice at the town hall meeting in wilmington. now, after that meeting, lynch will be visiting the wilmington police department. >> it's been one month since an 8-year-old philadelphia girl died in a hit and rund crash. last night, loved ones and neighbors in overbrook said

prayers and released balloons in her memory. her family and friends held a vigil at 63 rd and lands down avenue. the man police later tracked down and arrested in this case will appear in court this week. her family said this is all tough to take, especially during the holiday season. >> extremely hard. i just want to thank y'all for coming and showing support. she will always be missed. >> yes. >> he now faces charges of homicide by vehicle and involuntary manslaughter. happening now, new jersey lawmakers are about to give final approval to a bill aimed at punishing carl icahn for closing the taj mahal casino in atlantic city. that means the law would only

apply to carl icahn. even though four other casinos have shut down since 2014. he closed it after a contract dispute with the union. if he comes to an agreement with the ewan youn, the bill would allow him to regain license. coach peterson will talk to reporters this afternoon after another big disappointing loss for the birds. it came down to the final play the in baltimore. but the eagle, who had just scored a comeback touchdown with seconds to go fired on a two-point conversion. they lost 27-26. afterwards, coach said he's proud of his players for persevering against the ravens. >> everybody's dejected, disappointed. and not being able to finish. you know, on the winning side of these games but that's been the peeling the last couple of

electoral college voter rs coming together cast their ballots and thousand rs still trying to sway them to go against the choice. now u, the votes cast this morning will officially declare donald trump the 45th president of the united states. tracie potts has the latest from washington. >> reporter: this afternoon, 538 electorals gather in state capitals across america to cast official votes for president. donald trump's chief of staff claims some have been intimidated and harassed.

>> we've electorals that have receiving 200,000 e-mails. >> reporter: the director of national sbel where she knows denied some on a briefing of russian hacking before a sloet. there's been no evidence connecting hacking to trump, but hillary clinton's campaign chair is still raising questions. >> what did trump know and when? where they in touch with the russian sns. >> these conversations never happened. >> reporter: they say republicans on capitol hill want a special committee to investigate. >> we need to get to the bottom of this. >> the investigation should be tough, strong and bipartisan and should have access to all materials. >> reporter: a new poll shows 55% of american, more democrats than republicans, are bothered by russian interference, but nearly half have no appearance on whether the president-elect is too cozy with putin. some experts say a countercyber attack may not be the best move.

she was 99 years old. she became a fixture on the hollywood social circuit. she suffered from a number of health ailments recently that kept her out of the public view. at this hour, things are back to normal at los angeles international airport after two power outages last night. it took about an hour to reboot all the computer, security equipment and baggage handling system. the oung did not cause -- the cause is still under investigation. you may think it's cold here and it is, but look at this video from central illinois. this morning, the temperature there was 11 below. and the high right, and the high is not expected to get above 20 degrees. could be worse, right? icy snowy roads are making it hard for people to get around for those who can't stay up

inside. and stay inside and stay warm. too cold is right. now, your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> all right, we're not as cold as that, but we are pretty cold for our monday. we're looking right now, a live shot at philadelphia, you can see the clouds to start with, they've really thinned out. still some high chouds out there, but overall, a nice amount of sunshine for our day. unfortunately, the sunshine cannot help us with that cold air that built in behind the front yesterday, so, we still have temperatures below freezing this hour. chestnut hill, 27 degrees. little better off i guess. 30 degrees and that's the same right now for society hill. really, across the map, very cold as we get ready to move into the afternoon. 29 in torrancedale. so, we're looking at these 20s to low 30s. we've got windchill factor moving in which means because the wibds are picking up, it feels colder than it is.

that's the same for parts of burks county and the lehigh valley. redding at 26 fleetwood, 25. up to 29 degrees, but that's about the best we can do on the board here. 27, bath at 24. bethlehem, right now, at 25 degrees. this is a wider view to show us perspective here. there's a lingering rain as of yesterday. haven't seen a drop today and we're not going to. it's going to move off to the east. there was a bigger cloud cover to top this morning. we're going through scattered clouds today, but we're not going to see the clouds the last couple of days. overall, this will be plenty of sun comparison and a nice day if you're okay with the cold conditions. just layers on. three-day outlook, things warm up. high pressure is going to start building in. that means we'll stay on the dry side. just clouds moving through and temperatures start to rise 34 the high today. still cold tomorrow morning, 22

major delays for septa because of wires down on the track. wares kaued a power problem that crews are trying to fix. jessica has been staying on top of this all morning long for us. >> what's the latest? >> good news. we'll start with what happened earlier this morning. we dealt with a tractor trailer fire on the eastbound side of the turnpike. this is video from what the scene looked like. clearly a mess. traffic was backed up for miles on the eastbound side because all of the roads and lanes were closed there, so all traffic was being diverted off and we had a lot of alternates posted for you r, but if you look at the maps now, so much better. this is the general area it was in. just a little red right now. we had huge in bound delays past that. either way, as you're feeling scared about going through that direction any way, you can enter the turnpike back again on the eastbound side around valley forge. that will get you past the

known for deadly crashes has neighbors demands a change. accident investigators believe speed was a factor in sunday night's crash that killed two people. we've also learned two off duty philadelphia police officers saw this now mangled 2000 mercedes slam into an effompty schoolbus wedge under it and burst into flames. police say teens on a holiday church outing had just been dropped off. >> according to the 40-year-old driver of the schoolbus, she said three minutes prior to the accident occurring, she had just dropped off 28 teenaged students, boys and girls. she just dropped them off at a nearby church. >> i spoke exclusively to the bus driver by phone. she worked with with huntington valley crust yan academy. she says i feel happy my life was saved. i feel born again. i am praying for the family of the people who died. sad news for them. thanks to god for saving me and

i'm happy that i am alive. we'll be monitoring the investigation. live for now, monique braxton, nbc 10 news. >> 1134 it is a frigid morning. we're going to take a live look at camel back mountain in the poconos. sunny outside, those skier rs loving in weather. but krystal is here. not everyone may not like the cold. if you're up in the poconos or planning to go up there, this morning, they had windchills or feels like temperatures in negative territory. there was a cold start and still is right now. take a look. we're 14 degrees colder. right now in allentown, than yesterday than at this time. 31 degrees cool er in philadelphia. 32 degrees colder in vineland and 33 degrees colder in atlantic city.

we're talking a massive difference. back to reality. here's the actual temperatures. most of us on the map are still below freezing. a couple of us will make it to a little above freezing, but that's it for today. first alert radar, the wide view shows that the rain is off to our east. it will not be making its way back in our direction. in fact, the next several days stay dry. look to the west. nothing to track moving through and just going to be tracking sunshine over the forecast with temperatures on the rise. current wind speeds are right around 5 to 15 miles an hour. dover, stronger at 17 miles per hour, but that's enough to make it feel colder than it is. still, locations with feels like temperatures in the teens and low 20s including philadelphia, wilmington, through trenton. here's the temperatures. only low to mid-30s in philadelphia and then right back to those 20s as we go overnight.

it. men, women and children in a crush to eat. this is what desperation looks like. these people haven't had access to proper food for years. the syrian army had tried to starve them to surrender. the food is being thrown from t back of the vehicle as people are fighting to try to get their hands on it. people reduced to beggars by siege warfare. rebel aleppo has fallen to its president's army, almost literally. the damage to buildings clear. the damage to its people, incalculable. this could prove to be the end of the siege warfare that has opinion so cruel, so brutal for civilians on both sides. many children, some or fans, who have known nothing but war.

back to you. >> china says it will return an american underwater drone that was seized in the south china seas. the pentagon had been negotiating to get drone back. for military surveillance. officials in china are not saying how they will return the drone. new this morning, philadelphia is fighting back against led poisoning in children. >> lead poisoning has affected generations of children. here in philadelphia. and many adults in the city today are suffering from these effects. today, we are committing that the next generation of children in philadelphia will not have to face these same dangers. >> the city is forming an advisory group to look at wiis to stop lead poisoning in children. the emphasis will be in preventing children from being exposed in the first place. for example, landlords would have to certificate if fi their properties are lead free before children move in. the city will also try to

improve its response to children who have already been exposed. well, today is the deadline to sign up for health care for next year. >> yeah, the original deadline was last thursday, but the obama administration has given everyone a few extra days to enroll. a record number of americans signed up for obama care on thursday. that's why the deadline was extended. donald trump and the republican congress have vowed to repeal and replace the law. female doctors make about 0 $20,000 less than their male counterparts, but a new study shows it's doctor who are women that may save more lives. researchers at harvard university followed more than 1 million elderly patients. those treated by female doctors were 4 p% less likely to die. 5% were less likely to have to go back into the hospital within a month and past studies show women are more likely to follow treatment glooins and have better communication with their

patients than men. you're probably not thinking about your air conditioner right now with the frigid temperatures. >> but if you have a portable one, you need to check it because there's a recall this morning to tell you about. it involves three models with lg portable air conditioners with the logo right there on the front. overheat and cause a fire. if you have one of these, you should contact lg to schedule a free repair. >> countdown to christmas is on. we are now just six days away and five days until the start of hanukkah and the monday before christmas is traditionally the busiest shipping day of the year for packages. today also expected to be the busiest mailing day of the year. the postal service says this year is shaping up tor busier than last year. yesterday, we found people trying to get a jump on the crowd. here are some ore shipping deadlines. ups, today's the deadline for three day select shipping for arrival by christmas.

the history and why it was perform nd the first place. >> it was actually founded in an old gristmill that was built in 1790 and in 1938, the mill went out of business and a group of local artists, new hope was famous for the visual artists who were there over the years and attracted artists like oscar hammerstein and pearl parker who came down. they were instrumental in take ing this gristmill and forming a theatre and it ran as a commercial operation for 60 years. fabulously successful. grace kelly, robert red ford, jessica walter were all there in the early days of their careers and it kind of fell on hard times '80s, '90s and early 2000s and closed down, but it was rediscovered by a local foundation, who renovated it brilliantly and it reopened four years ago ab we're back, better than after.

>> talk about some of the gifts you're selling this season. some are unusual. >> well, one of the things we thought about of course is people love to be on stage. and so, we have some walk on, we're doing guys and dolls this coming summer, which is the first big broadway musical we're producing and so you can have a walk on in that and weal do rocky horror show in october. we do it every year. we have a walk on in that, which is a lot of fun. >> wow and you can gift that to someone. >> absolutely and we have, that's on the higher end, the on the lower end, we have gift certificates. we're launching new show called clue, based on the movie, in april and we're bringing back our successful production of buddy. so gift certificate is a great stock stuffer and that can go right in somebody's stocking and they come to any show they want. >> and you have a murder mystery musical running.

into the 30s. we're not going to see it rise much more than that. notice the icons showing sunny to mostly sunny conditions. our live cameras showing us high level clouds. into the afternoon, we start to see plen of sunshine out there. still mixing with some clouds moving in and out throughout the day, but overall, a nice forecast, just those temperatures you have to battle as you get out the door, so this is a wide view of our radar and satellite. the rain we saw yesterday, it's well out now to the east and instead, we're focused on what's to the west because there's a lot of nothing out there. we're looking at clouds and that's it. for the next several days, we're going to stay on the dry side after two days of active weather. instead, we'll be tracking the temperatures starting to pick up day by day and we're looking at temperatures to get above average in a couple of days. we can bear this for one more day. 34 degrees is going to be the forecast high. now, a lot more warming than where we are. cookstown at 30 degrees. those icons show iing the sunny

cbs, scattered clouds moving throughout the forecast later today. new jersey, the shore and delaware. we're looking low to mid-30s. vor hees at 33. hamilton as freezing. ocean city at 34 and that's the same for the beach, 34 degrees. for the forecast high. now, let's fast forward. going to warm up over the next several days into your holiday weekend. here's your friday into saturday then your christmas day. notice the temperatures continue climbing, 46 in philadelphia. then 48 saturday and thep by sunday, your christmas, 50 degrees. we're still a week out, but it looks like by sunday, showers for christmas are possible as well. not a complete downpour, but some rain. we're in the low 40s for the lehigh valley. mid-40s, show point, to 50 degrees, so overall, not a white christmas, but possibly a wet one and a warmer than average one. we'll take a look at the ten day on ten after the break.
