project and his mother have been working on for quite a while. >> it's been a long time. >> reporter: that's ava rawlins waiting for his son to be released from prison. daunte rawlins was convicted of attempted murder. >> an innocent man will leave prison nine years, 17 days after he was wrongly convicted. >> reporter: today philadelphia district attorney seth williams says the charges against the 29-year-old are being withdrawn. >> i'm very glad that this miscarriage of justice has been corrected today. >> reporter: outside the criminal justice center today, williams cited new evidence including witnesses, store receipts and cell phone records, they reportedly back up the claim that rawlins was somewhere especially that night.

>> it's impossible for him to go from where he was shopping with his friends on video to strawberry mansion, change his clothes, be part of the shooting, change his clothes and get back downtown. >> reporter: the shooting that night in 2006, left 6-year-old jamar wright in a wheelchair. his mother has fought against rawlins release, saying she's sure he's guilty. >> i knew he was innocent from the beginning. the wheels of justice finally turned. >> reporter: now we talked to daunte r arkrawlins about what ten years have been like, he spent almost all of his 20s in prison. we talked to him about that today and about his emotions. we'll have more coming up on

nbc10 news at 6:00. we are more breaking news tonight. a $50 million settlement from ikea. now the company is paying three families whose toddlers died when their dressers tipped over on them. >> jim, one of those families is from our area. >> yes, nearly three years ago, they lost their young son when a dresser tipped over on him. kiran was just 12. ikea launched a nationwide recall for the product sold under the malm name. it also encouraged parents to make sure their furniture is n anchored against the wall. as part of today's settlement, ikea is also making a 50,0$50,0

donation to chops. a philadelphia man is charged in the brutal stabbing of a philadelphia county mother. byron allen is charged with killing a woman just steps away from her home back in september. he then allegedly walked two miles from the crime scene in a trail of blood to a store where he was caught on surveillance video grabbing a beer. >> a heinous, brutal murder and the motive is the stalking in the night, the sport of killing is the motive. >> in each case, the female victim's throats were slashed or they were choked unconscious. >> also tonight, on the run. sky force 10 captured the end of a 30-mile chase through two counties and now one suspect is still on the loose. nbc10's deanna durante takes us

through what happened and how police also became a target. >> reporter: it ended up in upper chichester. that's where state police say a trooper attempted to pull over a driver for a vehicle violation. the car didn't stop, instead it took off, heading down i-95. troopers deployed stop sticks that slowed the car but didn't stop it. police say the driver of the stolen car rammed state police before they pinned the car in and stopped him. the passenger of the car got out and took off running. state police tell me that the driver of that car from wilmington, delaware is facing charges of aggravated assault and receiving stolen problem. the man they're looking for, they know his identity and they are still looking for him tonight. turning to our weather now, and the first day of winter is actually bringing the start of a warming trend to our area.

this is collingswood where people are out walking their dogs. >> krystal has more on the warmup. >> we're ready for it to start happening. there it is, comparing today to yesterday this exact same time. it's 9 degrees warmer in dover, allentown, nearly at that 10 mark and trenton at 11 degrees warmer. here's the actual temps, a lot of these are at the 40s. we officially hit 45 in philadelphia this afternoon. now at 42 degrees. even allen getting in on the action at freezing. we're going to see these clouds hanging on. we have seen these clouds throughout the day. what we're looking at on radar, the snow isn't making it to the ground in the lehigh valley, but

there's snow in the upper layers of the atmosphere. 38 by 6:00 here, we get to freezing right around 10:00. and that's pretty much where we'll stay as we move into tomorrow morning in philadelphia. for the suburbs, clouds hanging on. we get a little colder with clouds in the 20s there. we don't see that huge plunge in the overnight hours and early a.m. hours like we have been seeing. in the lehigh valley, 33 degrees around 6:00. so we did see right now we're in the upper 30s, starting to dip. 38 at 6:00 for delaware, and near freezing as we go into tomorrow morning. and that's the same for new jersey as well. the shore just a bit warmer. but the warmup continues. we'll take a closer look at that and your holiday forecast. we're taking a closer look at the man wanted in a burlington struck attack. and jim, a massive manage hunt

under way for that suspect. >> investigators say they're looking all over europe for any signs of the 24-year-old. two pictures of him were released by investigators today. we have just learned that police have questioned his family in his native tunisia. he had recently requested asylum in germany but was denied. police believe he was involved in the terror attack on monday, but his exact connection, that's not clear yet. a reward of $125,000 u.s. is willing offered as a reward for information on his location. you can see what's left of the popular market. several other christmas markets in the city also reopened today, but with increased security. 12 people were killed, 48 others injured when a truck slammed into the market on monday. a dozen of the victims are still in critical condition at this hour. today, president-elect donald trump spoke out about the attack. >> it was an attack on humanity,

is what it is. >> saying it's an attack on isis has claimed responsibility for the attacks, but authorities have not directly tied them to it. i'm jim rosenfield. happening right now, we want to bring you this scene, crews working to fix a water main break in queen village. sky force 10 is live over the building another columbus and queen streets. crews expect their work to continue through the evening rush and that's columbus boulevard. a tanker truck driver failed to stop for traffic in front of him leading to a 7-vehicle pileup in gloucester county. it happened this morning on route 140 in logan township.

backlog. in early 2016, the city reported nearly 1,300 backlogged kits. and from the nbc10 south jersey bureau, children in camden will get the benefit of a $30 million grant from the u.s. department of education. it will benefit the center for family services in camden. the city's mayor call this is an incredible blessing. some homeowners in newcastle county will be paying higher taxes for schools. it raises taxes $17 for homeowners in the school district. the tax hike will go toward building three new schools in elementary, middle and high schools. two other schools will be renovated. she was a budding music star from south jersey, now the family of christina grimme is

state lawmakers began possibly repealing the bill. a decision had not yet been made as to whether the bill will be eliminated. there's been a push to reduce antibiotics for kids. researchers say it may be the only way to fight ear infections. they say shorter doses may actually do more harm than good. a study found those who did a five-day dose instead of 10 did not recover quickly and instead the infection got worse. >> i would like to say i'm surprised by the study results, but i'm not. when i do choose to treat an ear infection with antibiotics, i usually find they need the full

ten-day course. >> on nbc "nightly news" with lester holt we'll have more on this story including how to know if your really needs antibiotics. the state of pennsylvania hopes to start selling medical marijuana by 2018. permanent applications will be online by january 17. the philadelphia area expected to get more licenses for dispensaries than anywhere else in the state. health officials expect more than 900 medical marijuana applications to be submitted. >> we haven't determined how we might rank those, the quality of what's submitted. >> a law signed earlier this year makes medical marijuana legal in pill, oil, vapor or liquid forms but not in smoking form. some sad news now,

108-year-old world war ii veteran from montgomery county has passed away, william moore the oldest resident of hatboro died surrounded bring his family and by santa claus. william was born in philadelphia and he enlisted in the army and served in north africa, italy, france and germany in the world war ii. he also helped liberate a concentration camp. william moore was 108 years old. and we're starting out by looking at those temperatures because there's certainly a change from yesterday at this time. yesterday we struggled to make it to the freezing mark now wire seeing temperatures in the mid and upper 30s and some 40s today. what we're looking at right now,

west callan at 36 degrees, and west bradford county at 38 degrees. millford township sitting at 36 as well. and warrington at 37 degrees. not bad, still above freezing, tonight if you have plans, it will still feel chilly but not quite as cold as the last few days. as we go through tomorrow, temperatures going to continue to climb. tomorrow looking a high of 47 degrees, a just a couple of degrees warmer, in the suburbs up to 44. up to 50 for areas like the jersey shore and delaware. if you're traveling for your thursday or your friday. here's the outlook for chicago. we could start to see a wintry mix move throughout parts of chicago, but temps will be in the 30s. thursday and friday in cincinnati, seeing showers move by friday as well.

we start to see this line moving in, it's not looking like a huge upset because we could see some upset there. mid to upper 30s for forecast temperatures thursday and friday, all the way up to 50 for our thursday forecast in d.c. and if you're heading to mt. pocono, good skiing conditions, 36 degrees, and a mix of scattered clouds for your friday. in boston, some showers thursday, but we're sunny by friday at 43, new york looking pretty good as well in those mid 40s, both days for that travel outlook. so overall travel conditions really aren't that bad. if you're staying in town. hanukkah lining up with christmas eve. temperatures will be in the 40s by saturday evening, and we are looking at light winds in the forecast for saturday. so really just a good christmas eve and hanukkah forecast. christmas day is very good as well, if you're hoping to maybe get outside. because temperatures are going to be warming up considerably,

an update now to that breaking news we brought you at the top of this newscast. this is new video just in to us here on nbc10, at the moment a man walked out of prison a free man. this is almost a decade after he was looked up. daunte rawlins was a teenager when she was convicted in a strawberry mansion shooting that left a little boy paralyzed. but rawlins' mother has argued he didn't do it. the charges against the now 29-year-old are being withdrawn. we talked to rawlins about his release and his reunion with his

family, we're still putting that story together, we'll have it for you all new at 6:00. plus tonight, rising from the ashes. >> a store in peddlers village is trying to figure out how to rebuild after a devastating fire. >> fellow business owners are pitching in to help? >> reporter: and this is one of the busiest shopping weekends or weeks for peddler's village, but unfortunately, shoppers won't be able to go to of these stores here, including the nut ket itk. which opened almost 30 years ago. the family that owns it has lost everything and now this community of small business owners is stepping up to help. last night after a busy day selling christmas gifts in peddler's village, jill caldwell locked off her shop and looked across the street. >> and i saw all these flames and my heart just sank to the

ground. >> reporter: the popular nut kettle store was up in smoke. nut kettle employ ees ran from the shop. they say the fire started in the popcorn machine. >> an employee says everybody made it out okay, including a toddler, but the store lost all of its products and supplies, the store's owner was relying on this busy christmas week to pay the bills. >> she has a very sick, this is the only income they will have during this time. >> reporter: the fire alsoed destroyed an adjacent christmas store. >> we have had other business owners say how can we help out? what can we do? >> reporter: the community here is offering donations and help

to the knut kettle family who lost everything in this fire. >> especially right before christmas, the concern and the love is really coming right now. >> reporter: i'm told the family that owns the nut kettle had all of their supplies, and their product and even some personal christmas gifts stored inside. they lost everything and all the small businesses are contributing. a massive man hunt under way for the man allegedly involved in a truck attack at a berlin christmas market. he's been identified as a refugee who requested asylum in germany but was denied. 12 people were killed in monday's attack.

one man is charged with -- another on the run. police pulled over a car around 10ek 1:00 this afternoon but the car wouldn't stop. the police stopped that car and the driver was arrested but a passenger ended up taking off. now to your first alert weather, a live look now at camel back ski resort. you can see the folks on the slopes there, it's a great few days for skiing, but now the temperatures are on the rise. >> they are. let's get the details from meteorologist krystal klei. >> 29 degrees in mt. pocono, but everywhere else is above freezing. philadelphia at 42 degrees, and 40 in northeast philly. we're at 38 in redding and lancaster, 37. millville now dropping down quite a bit. 34 degrees. the current reading. so temperatures are a bit spread across the board, 20s, 30s, and

40s. the thing is we saw that warmup today. by tomorrow, it will boost us above average in many locations. radar and satellite also shows us that we have those clouds throughout the day. there is a chance for some precipitation to start moving in. it's still a few days away. here's our forecast as we move into tomorrow. in fairmount and philadelphia. notice the icons, we're going to see those clouds moving in again. but some breaks and sun. lehigh valley locations down to the low mid 40s for forecast temperatures and a bit more cloud coverage in those zones. vorhees township, 50 degrees. take a look at the low temperatures, not quite as cold

as we have been seeing, because we're watching that gradual warmup. and that warmup goes right through your holiday weekend. we're really going to break that down coming up and we'll talk more about the extended 10-day forecast. new details tonight into the death of a toddler in kensington. his mother's boyfriend ramir curtis is now charged with murder. late last month authorities found is zair worrell. his mother is on house arrest and will undergo a mental health evaluation. fire destroys a south jersey family's home just four days before christmas. people were hurt when flames gutted this home in cumberland county this morning. they're all expected to be okay, but their home a total los. fire investigators still aren't sure what sparked the fire.

an 11-year-old boy killed in a house fire in philadelphia will be remembered in a vigil tonight. elliott jenkins was found in dead in a bedroom in a fire in a home. ice, wind and frigid temperatures made it difficult to fight the fire. the cause remains under investigation. in rtwo people were pulled out of their car when it went into the river. the port of philadelphia is getting hundreds of millions of dollars in state money for improvements, the $300 million will go to -- the project will create thousands of jobs.

in delaware tonight, newcastle county is welcoming it's first african-american police chief. lieutenant colonel vaughn bond jr. has been appointed as interim police chief and replaces the retiring chief. he joined the force back in 1991. he call this is new opportunity humbling. >> it's something i look forward to working with the command staff and the men and women within the agency, i think we do on outstanding job. >> vaughn is a graduate of the delaware state university. he previously served as the department's deputy chief. how groups across the region are shining a light on the homeless. that's next at 5:00.

tonight is the first night of winter. it will be the dark errs wiand longest night of the year. the homeless memorial day is recognized across the country, including in camden. according to the latest count from camden county, nearly 700 people are experiencing homelessness there. project hope, a group working to help the homeless sees people of all ages who have lost their homes for a variety of reasons. >> it's very heart breaking because the stigma that's tied around homelessness and just to kind of break those stigmas, it's not all on drugs, a lot of them just for financial reasons, they end up homeless.

further south of delaware, you're seeing of the same thing. mid 40s at 46 degrees right now. so temperatures are certainly starting to warm up out there, even as we move through your 10:00 hour, as we look at your radar and satellite, we're tracking clouds, a few breaks as we move late day, but overall, it was a cloudy day out there, we're looking at radar what is looking like snow. this is picking up much higher in the sky, no snow to speak of, at least quite yet in your forecast. we just saw a few minutes ago what your thursday was looking like, mostly we're going to be in the mid to upper 40s. for the eagles game, it's a night game, 8:25 for your kickoff. 43 degrees your temperature for tailgating, kickoff will be 39 degrees. those winds still going to be on the breezy and windy side.

thursday itself going to notice higher temperatures throughout the day. friday 48 degrees, watch the climb. saturday see degrees, might see that rain icon on christmas eve and then think, oh, rain, but this is the first half of the day, it will start to dry out by the time that santa makes his way through. we're at 52 for christmas day in philadelphia. many areas looking at temperatures doing just a bit of a climb here. we could see a rain-snow mix in the lehigh valley. 49 degrees in the lehigh valley. so a lot of people have been saying, what about a white christmas. the thing s it's actually not that common in philadelphia. from 1951 to 2015. so we're talking more than 60 years here, only 15 times have we received a dusting. and the most snow, 4.1 inches, that was back in 1969 that we saw that officially in philadelphia. so what's going to happen as we

night. his case was taken from the innocence project who worked to free him along with another person who wouldn't give up on him, his mom. in a red sweatshirt and a big smile, daunte rawlins walked out and gave his mom a hug. she's been waiting nine years to see him released. now 29, rawlins was convicted in a shooting that left a little boy paralyzed. now the charges against him withdrawn. rawlins is now outside, arm around the mother he says did the time with him. >> i owe my life for my mother, so whatever she wants me to do, i'm going to do it. >> reporter: philadelphia's district attorney today said evidence including witnesses, cell phone records and sales receipts helped back the claim that rawlins was somewhere else that night. the shooting that night in
