longer facing charges after new evidence showed he had an alibi. he was originally convicted in a shooting that left a boy paralyzed. new tonight, the victim's mother says that letting rollins free feels like a slap in the face. she spoke exclusively to nbc10's drew smith, who is live in center city with more. drew. >> reporter: jim, we have two very different emotions happening here. one family feeling whole again after their loved one walked out of these doors a free man today. but there is another family out there still feeling like they're struggling for justice a decade after a young boy's dreams were shattered in gun violence. there were big smiles at the criminal justice center tonight with dante rollins walking free into the arms of his mother. >> it was messed up what happened to me, but it's over now. so i'm going to start my life. >> reporter: the district attorney says new evidence backed rollins' alibi that he wasn't at the scene of the shooting that left 6-year-old ja bar wright paralyzed.

>> i wasn't there. i mean can't get no truer than that there. >> reporter: while rollins finally feels vindicated, there are different emotions going through ja bar's mother. >> tired, confused, outraged. >> reporter: she says ever since the innocence project took on rollins' case, it has moved too fast, and they've lost sight of the victim. >> you feel like this man is innocent, let twelve jurors decide it. >> reporter: but there will be no new trial. the d.a.'s office is dropping all charges. >> although it is regretfully painful to the wright family, justice has finally been done here today. >> reporter: rollins' legal team says they are thrilled he will get to spend the holidays with his family after they worked so hard for his release. while the wrights will be toe together too, they continue to agonize over ja bar's pain. >> we're no longer the victim. how can it be that it's the holidays and they have holidays and my kids don't have holidays.

i don't have -- i don't have money. i don't have resources. >> reporter: and alicia wright says she will never stop fighting for her son. as for donte rollins, he says he's looking forward to a nice bath, time with his family, and doing something productive with his newly free life. we're live outside the criminal justice center in center city. i'm drew smith, nbc10 news. new at 11:00, a close call for two philadelphia detectives. a forklift driver plowed into their car with them inside. nbc10 at 16th and carpenter street just after the accident. if the forklift had hit a few inches differently, the detectives could have been seriously hurt. no one was injured, though, even though their car had major damage. $50 million. that's how much ikea will pay the families of three toddlers killed when dressers tipped over onto them. one of those toddlers was a 2-year-old from westchester. his family bought his dresser from the ikea store in consha

hocking, and nbc10's aundrea cline-thomas is live there tonight. aundrea. >> reporter: no amount of money can ever bring back their child. the hope, though, is that the settlement can keep other families from having to endure their pain. take a look at their little faces. camden ellis is from washington state. ted mcgee is from minnesota. and curren collis is from westchester. each boy was 2 years old when they died after an ikea dresser tipped over and crushed them. >> i didn't see him anywhere. so i went over and kind of pulled everything apart, and i saw the little top of his head trapped between the dresser and the edge of the bed. >> reporter: earlier this year, curren's mother recalled what she called the worst thing that's ever happened to her family. she joins the two other families and filed a lawsuit against ikea. in june, the furniture company issued a national recall of 29 million dressers, the same model

that tipped over and killed all three boys. >> i think ikea recognizes that it made a defective product and a product that exposed kids all over america to danger. >> reporter: in a settlement, ikea agreed to pay $50 million to be divided equally between each family. ikea will also increase funding for safety campaigns. alan feldman, an attorney representing the family, says ikea is sending a clear message. >> i think what ikea was trying to do is effectively say we're sorry. they have agreed to never again sell chest or dressers that don't meet the national safety standard. >> reporter: nbc10 reached out to jackie collas, she declined an on camera interview but said in a statement, i'm so proud we were able to negotiate such great terms, to know that my little boy was able to save so many children makes my heart happy. solace in the midst of deep pain, hoping no other family will have to endure. also as a part of the

settlement, ikea will be donating $150,000 to children's hospitals across the country. that includes chop. now, the story serves as a reminder about the importance of anchoring furniture to the wall, especially if children are in the house. reporting live from conshohocken, aundrea cline-thomas, nbc10 news. >> thank you. a delaware man is behind bars and his alleged accomplice on the run after a police chase through philadelphia and the suburbs. the chase ended in upper chai chester but started on ar minute go avenue in philadelphia. police tried to pull over a car but the driver wouldn't stop. troopers eventually pinned that car and arrested the driver, but a passenger got out and ran away. police have since learned that car was stolen out of new castle, delaware, this morning. a philadelphia man is now charged with stabbing a delaware county mother to death. investigators say the attack was random. byron allen allegedly killed natasha gibson just stebs from her friend's home in yeadon back in september.

she was stabbed more than 20 times, and after the attack, allen was caught on surveillance camera going to get a beer. investigators call it one of the most brutal attacks they've ever seen. >> a heinous, brutal murder, and the motive is the stalking and the sport of killing is the motive. >> dna also linked allen to four sexual assaults in kensington. in each case the women's throats were slashed or they were choked unconscious. overseas tonight, a massive manhunt continues for the man wanted in a truck attack on a berlin christmas market. the suspect identified today as this man, 24-year-old aneegs amry. we've learned investigators found his wallet in the truck that ran into the market on monday, killing 12 people. amri had recently requested asylum in germany, but it was denighed. police questioned his parents in his native tunisia today. german authorities also say they had conducted surveillance on amri earlier this year, but nothing was found.

today president-elect trump spoke out for the first time about the attack in berlin. he said what happened at the market is disgraceful and targeted more than just christians. >> it's an attack on humanity is what it is. it's an attack on humanity, and it's got to be stepped. >> mr. trump also defended his position on creating a muslim registry or a ban on immigration from certain countries into the u.s. the president-elect made the comments from his mar a la go resort in palm beach, florida. one of our areas most controversial investors is now joining the trump administration. billionaire carl icahn will be a special adviser on regulatory reform. icahn owns the tropicana casino in atlantic city and the shurterred strump taj mahal. the taj mahal closed in october after a benefits battle with the casino workers union. earlier this week, new jersey lawmakers approved a bill that would prevent icahn from reopening the casino without union labor. the bill still needs governor christie's signature.

tonight dozens gathered to remember a young boy killed when his cobbs creek home went up in flames. >> give us peace. >> an emotional vigil tonight for 11-year-old elliott jenkins. it was held outside the damaged home. family and friends also released dozens of balloons into the air to honor him. jenkins was killed when fire tore through the house last friday. his father also has serious burns but has been released from the hospital now. still no word on what started the fire. new at 11:00, an effort to end north carolina's so-called bathroom bill, it has failed tonight. lawmakers rejected a repeal during a special session today. the law forces transgender people to use bathrooms that correspondent with their gender at birth and that led to months of protest and a boycott 69 state by some major businesses. it's not clear if another repeal vote will happen in the new year. just four days until christmas, and it certainly

football bus also rode into town. we caught up with the bus as it was parked outside the wells fargo center this afternoon. that bus gives fans a sneak peek of how the football broadcast comes to life. it will stay in town until tomorrow. what's the weather going be like at the link? >> it's going to be pretty good considering it's late december, and it's a night game. we could see a whole lot worse. there's no precipitation. we've got no pro-siptation around tonight. the temperature is not nearly as cold as the last couple of nights. still close to the freezing mark in much of the area. a little bit cooler in parts of south jersey. and so when you get up in the morning, go out to the bus stop, look at these temperatures compared to what we've seen. we were 11 degrees in allentown a couple days ago. 32 in quakertown, exton. reading is close to that. trenton too. atlantic city at 45 degrees. yeah, the atmosphere is warming up, and that sets us up for not too cold night for the eagles

game. i mean after all, it is december, and it's at night. there's going to be a breeze too to make it feel a little bit cooler. now, traveling, of course a lot of people going to be doing that over the next few days. going to have some issues in chicago on friday with some snow moving in. not a big storm. and then that system moving into pennsylvania early saturday morning, but nothing like what we saw last weekend. and then that rain area is going to be affecting us as we go closer. friday afternoon is dry. friday evening is dry. but by saturday morning, we're starting to get a little precipitation. could start as a little bit of a wintry mix up in the lehigh valley, the poconos, but that's mainly a rain area. that is saturday morning. it's going to be wet. saturday midday could be wet. but not saturday evening. it's all gone by then. and so christmas eve is looking just fine. unless you want snow, then you're not going to get that.

a south jersey postal carrier has transformed into santa's helper to make some deliveries of his own. he dresses up as an elf every december, goes on his route in carney's point. he delivers mail to moms and dads, but he also helps kids get their letters to santa. his bosses say they're okay with his annual uniform swap because they see how much joy it brings to their customers. >> every day i enjoy my job so much. a little add-on such as this makes it even better. >> a little add-on. this is the third year that he has dressed up as an elf. posing for elfies. >> dozens of kirds got help with their holiday wish list thanks to joel embiid. he met with 25 young people from the boys and girls club of camden county in cherry hill this afternoon. each child was then treated to clothes and a $100 gift card to
