close call. >> reporter: you're absolutely right. neighbors say it was a series of explosions that woke them up today. you can see the immediate yalt danger is over. the clean up process is what's taking place right now. they are unloading the groceries before they can tow it out of here. take a look and see how close the trailer came to the gas pumps. >> i thought that it was going to explode. i thought the whole thing was going to go up. >> when she got to the scene she saw this, a tractor trailer on fire just a few feet away from pumps at the speedway gas station. >> it was the whole thing, the back of the truck was on tire, smoke and flames billowing out, and then the stuff inside the truck, you heard a series of explosions after that. >> reporter: fire crews were on the scene in five minutes. >> flames shooting up about 50 feet in the air.

>> danged simon told us he had r seen anything like it before. >> there is another vehicle over on the side there. there is a telephone pole broken in three spots. >> the tractor trailer hit this suv. they are still sorting out the details but for now it appears as though the truck lost control and crash into the speedway narrowly missing a row of pumps. thankful for what the big rig didn't hit. >> high volume. it certainly could have been a lot worse than what it was. >> both drivers were taken to the hospital. i spoke with a woman who was working at that gas station. she is doing all right. no one else was injured in this accident which is really remarkable when you take a look

at all of the damage that's left behind. i'm pamela osborne, nbc 10 news. >> it has caused some traffic issues. jessica boyington has been keeping an eye on this situation. >> yeah, jessica, tell us what you're seeing around that area. >> there's a lot of diverted traffic. we have been watching this. it is right where this scene has happened. downed poles and wires. it is oxford avenue that's still closed to traffic. they are diverting traffic around the scene. you might come across a ten minute or so detour. considering there's not a lot of traffic out ton the roads. not a lot of cars on the road at all. a 14 minute trip. there are things out there happening as well. there is a crash on county line

road. an emergency construction headed eastbound. the left lane is blocked there. watch for construction vehicles. other than that you'll have a pretty good drive. >> sky force 10 over delaware county this morning. crews were called here around 8:00 this morning. the fire started in the garage. no reports of any injuries. rainy and unseasonably warm. people did not need heavy coats but they do need to carry an umbrella throughout the day. when will cooler temperatures occur? we do need to ask this question as we are in late december. krystal klei is here with the forecast. a lot of kids off from school and probably want to see some snow. >> yeah. and we actually do have the potential for snow in some parts of the area but not for today. temperatures are way too warm for that. the rain start today move out

entire s entirely. notice that is creeping now. the lehigh valley. what it means is if we go later into today a lot of sunshine will start to build in. we'll still see scattered clouds but no longer tracking rain and gray conditions should move out as the cold front moves in. that means temperatures start to fall as well. here is a look at temperatures right now. this is way warmer than average. 57 in philadelphia. it is 60 now for millville and 62 atlantic city and 61 in dover. allentown 55 degrees. yesterday we were talking temperatures barely above freezing at this point in the day. there has been a huge change in temperatures. it will not be the same for areas like tomorrow. we'll start out cold. 46 dries the temperature currently out there. 14 miles per hour winds for

dover. these winds are kicking up ahead of the front as we saw the rain move in. the winds are going to start changing direction and they are beginning to do so out to the west of us as that wifront move in. coming up in a few minutes we'll take a closer look at how conditions change for wednesday and wednesday send it out into new year's eve. happening now the search continues this morning for a five-year-old girl and her great grandmother. they left days ago and have not been seen since. family members tell us barbara breely left on christmas eve. they were on their way to visit family in north carolina. relatives tell us they last spoke to them on the phone at a gas station. it is about half way through the trip. they never showed up at their final destination. the woman's grandmother says family members drove south in search of them. >> she would do anything for

anybody. she is a church lady. she said she was lost but she takes that route all of the time. >> police in three states are looking for the car that the two were last seen in. license plate c 80-els. delaware lawmakers talk about raising minimum wage. one of the bills would raise it from $8.25 to $10.25 an hour. say similar bill never made it to the full chamber last session. the highest minimum wage is at $8.38. pennsylvania workers earn $7.35 an hour for minimum wage. adoptive children will soon be able to find out who their birth parents are. parents who want to shield their identities have until saturday

it crashed just two minutes after take off. dozens of a military choir were killed in that crash. we are also getting new information about a plane crash that killed dozens of members of a brazilian soccer team. they are confirming reports that the plane ran out of fuel. it is based on information from the plane's black boxes. the pilot didn't report engine failure. the airline is also responsible and right now the co-owner is facing manslaughter charges. 71 died, 6 survived. aaron hernandez is back in court today. hernandez is accused of killing two men after one of them bump into him at a night club. he pleaded not guilty.

he is already serving for the murder of his fiance's sister's boyfriend. declared a state of emergency and engineers are rushing to save part of the neighborhood. dave has the latest. >> this morning a suburban detroit neighborhood is literally on the edge. frazier michigan now under a state of emergency after this massive sink hole opened up. at least 22 feamilies evacuated. >> it started separating at the front of the house. >> smith is terrified her home is next. >> if it swallows his house it might take ours with it. >> they believe an 11 foot wide sewer pipe may have burst causing the sink hole to form. it impacted a near by gas and

water main forcing the city to shut off utilities. this isn't the first problem for the area. the same road caved in in 2004. this latest is even larger, 250 feet long and 100 feet wide. david rushed out grabbing what he could in minutes. >> yeah. clothes and valuables and christmas presents. >> they are pumping stewaewage worried it might back up into basements. it could be weeks before residents are allowed back into their homes. nbc news. all right. now we'll take a look at radar and satellite. the rain that was heading our way has now moved on out. this is exactly what we are expecting. everything would move off. still very light lingering spots of rain trying to pick up on

radar. maybe a drop or two on your windshield. what i wanted to show is thicker cloud coverage. it is starting to move out as well. i think in the more clear zone you'll notice more sunshine as we go into the afternoon. take a closer look. what we are tracking is very small spots of rain. we are drying out. roadway is still a little wet in spots. these temperatures are way warmer than they should be for this time of year. we are in your philadelphia neighborhoods. kensington at 58 degrees. we are at 58 chestnut hill and dora as well as parkwood. almost to 60 in some places. as we go through the afternoon we'll see temperatures climb just a bit more. we are also going to notice the winds holding tight. right now gusts at 23 miles per hour in philadelphia. mount holly at 21. wilmington at 26 miles per hour. we are starting to see a bit of

a shift in these winds. they were coming from the southwest and now some are picking up from the west. that's because the cold front is coming in from that direction and it will change the direction as our winds as a whole. it will also usher in the drying air. right now we are in the upper 50s at 11:00 a.m. we go into the early afternoon here and we should make it to the low 60s. new jersey, the shore and parts of delaware. low 60s are certainly expected. we go farther north and it is a warmer than average day across the maps. the cool fronts airs start to move in. mid-40s by around 8:00. continuing to drop overnight. 30s getting into tomorrow morning. we are back to what is typical by tomorrow. we go to your hour by hour forecast. conditions will stay dry. by thursday we start tracking snow coming from the west. as we move this into the morning

you may live a longer one. that's the finding from researchers in london who followed more than 9,000 adults over a period of 11 years. they were asked how much they enjoyed life. the people that had the most positive answers lived the longest. there's a lot of confusion over saturated fats and whether they are bad for your heart. butter and other saturated fats

in the next couple of hours. new jersey, delaware all in the upper 50s right now. delaware at 59. some spots in delaware are already in the 60s. even the lehigh valley, take a look at the live camera. sunshine starting to peek on out. it will continue spreading across our region. the rain is moving out. we have lingering very small showers that are going to continue passing by here for the next hour or so. as those clouds continue to move through we'll see more sunshine and less clouds all together throughout the rest of today. so we are going to see drier conditions and we are going to start seeing cooler conditions getting later into the day. wael peak around 1:00 to 2:00. we drop to the 50s around 6:00 and the 40s getting into your overnight. 57 by 2:00 p.m. in the suburbs.

passengers left laying on mats waiting for answer. for those who made it home, a winter wonderland for kids and dogs alike. road travel could be treacherous. it could be trouble spots in the eastern half of the country from texas up to into maine. let's send it back to you. now to an incredible story of survival. a college professor risked her life after their car became stuck in a ditch near the grand canyon. she survived more than 30 hours to help rescue them. they were vacationing near the grand canyon and were stranded on friday on the canyon's north rim near the utah/arizona border. we have that story now. >> it's just starting to sort of sink in as far as -- it still feels some what surreal.

your 24 hour temperature change. there has been a big warm up in the last 24 hours. this morning we saw it and we are still seeing it right now. compared to yesterday at the same time we are 16 degrees warmer in philadelphia. 22 warmer in allentown and 20 degrees warmer in mount holly. across the map it does not matter what neighborhood you're in it feels pretty nice out there considering we are at the end of december. low 60s to upper 50s. radar and satellite, the clouds are starting to move out and starting to clear here through the suburbs here. still spotty showers that are trying to make their way through. this is the last of the rain here in south jersey. some of this not making it to the ground. just noticing wet roadways. we are not dealing with much rain left in this forecast.

here is what we are look at for your tuesday. we are starting to clear out showers and we will see more sunshine. wednesday we cool back down. we are in the low 30s for the morning. we still see plenty of sun mixing in with the clouds. thursday we bring back the rain. in the suburbs as we go through staying dry and low 40s by tomorrow. thursday i think it will be mostly sunny in the suburbs. may see a little rain snow mix. take a look at the temperature trend for new jersey, low 40s wednesday and upper 40s by thursday. it's rain through the shore and delaware as well. temperatures all the way up to 64 degrees. some spots by the next hour or so. now we are fast forwarding. if you're going to penns landing there's a 6:00 and midnight

fireworks show. you can catch it on nbc 10. here is the temperatures. notice we'll be at 42 degrees at 6:00. it is pretty average this time of year. we dropped down to 34 degrees by the mid-niegnight show. 30 degrees by midnight there. also do note we'll see clouds starting to build in although we should stay dry. down to 35 degrees by midnight. here is a look at the ten day at 10:00. huge difference tomorrow, 42 degrees for the high temperature. as i pointed out it will be a chilly morning again tomorrow. don't get used to that start in the 50s like we saw today. on thursday here are the showers we are tracking. we dropped to a high of 39 friday. that's cool down that will continue through your saturday and into your new year's day. the first day of the new year at 48 degrees. >> thanks. speaking of the new year the count down is on.
