after they said they arrested the killer maurice green. >> this line showed how loved marie buck was in south philadelphia. people waited to get inside the funeral home and say their good-byes to the 81-year-old store owner killed on christmas eve. >> it's like a bad dream. >> al buck is marie's brother-in-law. just moments earlier al said he learned about the arrest in marie's shooting death while watching nbc 10. >> i feel relieved and glad they got him. i'm all torn up with her. it's a hell of a way to die. >> philadelphia police gave us our first look at the suspect, maurice green. homicide detectives say green walked into marie's grocery on 6th and titan sheets and shot marie 11 times. >> her grandson was supposed to be working that morning.

>> police told us green claims marie's grandson stole his necklace worth $5,000 to $10,000. this isn't green's first brush with the law. a docket search shows he's been arrested 17 times since 2005. the 31-year-old has faced at least 13 drug charges. although marie's family has closure, it's still bittersweet. >> she was the kingpin of everything. my brother, he doesn't even want to live. yesterday was the first time i got him to laugh a little. >> brother-in-law al buck says marie's husband plans to close to grocery store. right now at 11:00, dozens of russian diplomats are packing their bags as president obama punishes russia for its cyber attack against the u.s. now the kremlin is promising to respond. and president-elect trump is weighing in. drew smith is following developments live. >> this is notable. the strongest response to state

directed hacking ever in this country. this will also impact the incoming administration. president-elect trump saying he will meet with intelligence leaders on this next week. president obama is striking back at russia's top intelligence agencies and leaders close to vladimir putin. >> we've been clear all along. there will be consequences. >> the hacking pay back extends to 35 russian diplomats in the u.s., expelled, told to get out in 72 hours. plus, two russian government compounds on the east coast will close friday. in a statement, president obama said, all americans should be alarmed by russia's actions. the president-elect took a different tone. trump's statement reading in part, it's time for our country to move onto bigger and better things. >> the sanctions are like pulling the pin on the grenade and then handing it to the next administration saying, now you deal with it because you know the russians are going to respond in kind. >> one of the accused election hackers is already wanted for

crimes in pennsylvania. officials say he stole millions from banks and took people's personal information hostage. also revealed today, allegations russia harassed u.s. diplomats. >> we've seen verbal and physical harassment. we've seen them try and revoke their credentials. >> trump could roll back these presidential orders but top republicans are backing the sanctions. expect cyber security to remain a top issue for the next administration. >> espionage against the united states is at a higher level today than it has been since the end of the cold war. and in fact, it's not just the russians. >> president obama said there will be more action on this. but we won't know about it publicly. likely a covert strike against russia. >> this tweet was one of the first diplomatic reactions to the u.s. sanctions against

russia. the official account from the russian embassy in london tweeted this image of a duck with the word lame over it. it said, quote, everybody including american people will be glad to see the last of this hapless obama administration. a country wide cease fire is finally in place in syria after russian president vladimir putin ordered the military to scale down its presence there. the cease fire went into effect at midnight. the opposition is also ready to begin peace talks after russia, turkey and iran said they were ready to broker a deal to settle the six-year war. the free syrian army promised to keep their fingers on the trigger in the event the deal falls short of expectations. a car salesman is accused of cheating russian citizens out of high end cars. investigators say he used his car dealership in new jersey to ste

steal nearly $2 million from people overseas. the victims wired him large amounts of money for used cars that were never shipped or had already been sold. he's charged with wire fraud. new england is getting hammered by the same system that brought some lighter snow to our area this morning. this is video showing that snow coming down at a resort in new hampshire this evening. luckily we are not dealing with that, but hail did hit the jersey shore this evening. a viewer sent us this picture of hail covering his lawn. nbc 10 first alert chief meteorologist jeff schwartz explains what happens there tonight. >> this really came out of nowhere. this is doppler radar at 6:30 this evening. you can see one tiny little shower in new jersey. a half hour later, a half hour, we had this big storm

developing. and then it moved right down toward atlantic city. by 8:00, right on top of atlantic city down to margate, producing some hail there. several different places right along the path of that storm had the hail reports. now we're left with just some snow flurries in central pennsylvania. things are quiet over wise. it's cold, it's windy. it's still above freezing, though. it will take several hours to get below freezing. that means we're going to be seeing some freezing. but we're not seeing any wind gusts. they would be showing up here. the west winds are in. it's going to increase as we go through the day tomorrow, temperatures struggling to get up to 40 degrees even though we're starting off in the mid 30s. in some places, not even getting to 40 degrees. we'll see when the wind is going to die down, when it's going to warm up and when we're going to

get some real significant rain coming up. a 5-year-old atlantic county girl and her great grandmother are recovering in the hospital after they got lost on the christmas trip to visit family. 71-year-old barbara reilly and the 5-year-old got lost on the way from mays landing to visit relatives in north carolina. they were found yesterday in virginia. >> she was scared but she's a tough girl. she's very bright, smart. she stayed with her grandmother. >> both barbara and the 5-year-old are listed in stable condition. in a post on facebook the family said their prayers have been answered. a fly that can cause destruction for fruit crops is found in a port in camden customs, officials discovered

they lost everything in a christmas' eve fire, but the spirit of the season has inspired others to give a chester county family the christmas they lost. a mother and her two sons were with relatives when they learned the fire had destroyed the house. firefighters say some of the community wanted to help, so they offered the fire house as a donation dropoff. they say they never expected the out pouring of support. >> just overwhelming to see all the community support. we almost couldn't even keep up with it. there were so many people wanting to give. >> firefighters received so many donations, they filled an entire ambulance with them. less than two days until the ball drops in new york city's

in allentown, 35. in bath, bethlehem and in easton. the temperatures may just go below freezing by morning. this is what it looked like at 5:00 a.m. snow moving in right on schedule and rain down to the south, some of it on the heavier side. we had a brief period. it wasn't all day. not a big storm. now it's gone. that weird thing in south jersey, that was strange, what happened there this evening with the hail. we have a few snow flurries in the mountains, some could come over and hit the lehigh valley and poconos during the day. the feels like temperatures are going to be going down into the 20s as the wind increases during the day tomorrow. the temperature is not going up much. the wind is. so it's actually going to feel colder in the afternoon than it feels right now. and tomorrow night is going to be a cold feeling night, feeling

like the teens in parts of the area and into saturday morning, feeling like the teens in parts of the area. so the start of the weekend is going to be the coldest part. now, as we go through the weekend, we're going to find a little bit milder on saturday and lesds wind. and milder on sunday too. it's basically dry except for the snow flurries in the lehigh valley. new year's eve looking pretty good. it's going to be cold. it's supposed to be cold. 44 at 6:00. 36 at midnight. not a whole lot of wind. like i said, it's dry there. it's dry for the mummers. not much wind. and that also means of course that the eagles game is going to be dry. temperatures in the 40s. a little bit above average. the wind not a factor either. so we do have a nice weekend.
