at the delaware river front. you're looking live at the blue cross river rink. thanks for joining us. fireworks lit up the sky just off penn's landing right here on nbc 10. and now nbc 10's andrea cline-thomas where the it crowd is excited for the second round of fireworks at midnight. >> reporter: that's so right. it's really hard to find a new year's eve celebration that adults and children can enjoy together. for another year, take a look. winter fest did just that and this year it's a sold out crowd. star wars provided the sound track for the seventh annual fireworks. >> it's nice to watch everybody come together and really have a good time with it. >> reporter: a special 6:00 p.m.

waiting for these fireworks that will bring in the new year that start at midnight. reporting live for the last time in 2016, i'm andrea cline-thomas, nbc 10 news. thank you and in chester county people will be watching a giant mushroom drop at midnight. the 500 pound stainless steel mushroom in place in kennett square. now the event also included a laceser show and musical performances. kennett square is known as the mushroom production capital of the world. in lehigh valley a sweet 17 has already helped bring in the new year. that's where the iconic peep's marshmallow candy was made and it was part of the peep fest which ifcluded fireworks and music.

officer and another person before entering the building. no word on whether the gunman is add r at large. president obama has been briefed on the situation and has offered help to turkey. following the attack security is being stepped up across new york city. this is a live look at time's square where more than a million people are gathered to watch the ball drop. they're deploying extra counterterrorism teams and patrols to night clubs as a precaution but stress there's no credible threat to the city. new at 11:00 from delaware county, two people are struck and killed outside a church. sky force 10 over the scene at saint pis church on marble township. the victims were standing outside when they were hit. both died at the scene. we'rer told a driver remained at the scene. it's not clear if any charges will be filed. and a delivery driver is

to south philadelphia. they'll be dropping their own new year's eve ball at midnight. we were there along 17th street. it is covered in hundreds of lights and featurers a big 2017 sign right at the bottom. the new year's eve ball is a family tradition of the casiado family. and a big new year's eve party got underway at the jersey shore. dozens of performers took the stage for ocean city's annual first night celebration. it featurered entertainment and activities at 20 venues. the celebration featured ice skating and kids-rides.

now to an nbc 10 exclusive. a lehigh valley mother is spending the new year at home after surviving a freezing journey at the grand canyon. she hiked 30 miles in the snow when her family's car got stuck. and only nbc 10 news was there as she celebrated her birthday at home thank flg to be alive. >> i've been couped up inside for so long.

>> reporter: out of the hospital back home in north hampton county, karen cline takes a walk through her neighborhood. >> a little freaky to be out in the cold. that is a little disconcerting. >> cold? >> reporter: it's been a week since she walked 30 miles through the wilderness of of the grand canyon. they were on a trip out west when their car got stuck in a ditch. >> we're stuck here. >> reporter: the two boys stayed behind while karen, an aved runner left on foot to find help. >> it was like got to get there but i could only move because i because so exhausted, 10 steps at time and rest or i'd fall over. >> reporter: now back home she greets neighbors happy to see her alive and rekountsz the darkest moment of her journey, spending one cold night shivering next to a pine tree. >> talking and rocking back and forth to keep myself awake, warm. >> reporter: she eventually made
