a dibl winter whammy, the snow is leaving but cold is on the way in. >> and in you're heading out on this saturday night, use caution, slushy snow is making for slippery roads here in south jersey. >> you can see the snow moving out on the first alert radar but the bitterly air is moving in. we're tracking the last of the snow and start of the cold. good evening, snow is still falling in some neighborhoods but snow is only the front end of a one-two weather punch. bitterly cold temperatures are on the way. let's get to our team of first alert meteorologists, bill henley is tracking the snow

moving out and erika talking about the cold moving in. >> we're seeing things change rapidly now. look at the improvement in philadelphia, a live view from the adventure aquarium. during the afternoon after a light dusting of snow, hardest hit were the coastlines as expected. look at cape may. improving conditions there too. visibility is improving and that's an indication the snow is moving offshore and healthy dose of snow in delaware. southern delaware saw some of the highest snow totals are still see very light snow but this is a big improvement for hen hopen acres and look at cape may, it's just tapered off there. atlantic city, still seeing very light snow at this time but it's not going to last much longer. i'll give you a better look. ship bottom is seeing light snowfall. the tail end is just approaching atlantic city right now. still some light snow showers in

burlington county and trenton area but that's not going to last much longer, it's already starting to end in upper bucks county and montgomery county. most neighborhoods have seen it coming to an end. this is pulling away. we will see ling areerring snow showers. cape may the snow is long gone and will finally pull away from burlington and continue moving offshore during the evening hours. that's evenly goionly going to way for colder air and that's the second part of the story today. erika martine has that. >> temperatures will get a lot colder. talking about the snow clearing and mainly 20s and delaware, 19 for you. the hour by hour forecast, this is where it gets very interesting. starting this at 6:00 p.m., i want to show you northwesterly

winds making all of the difference. notice the 6:00 p.m., we're mainly seeing low to mid-20s for the most part. by 9:00 p.m., lots of teens for the lehigh valley and berks county and chester county, mid to upper teens. farther south low, a few mid-20s. by midnight everybody is seeing teens and that mainly because we have the colder air sliding down and polar jet stream dipping down and bringing us much colder temperature. it's all about those feels like temperatures, here's a look at your wind profile. notice the northwesterly winds, not very strong but with the colder temperatures in play, it's going to feel colder than the actual temperatures. i'll time out those feels like temperatures for you hour by hour through early tomorrow morning when feels like temperatures will be in the single digits. denise, back to you. >> not all smooth sailing tonight though, andrea is live in rocks borough where a mail

truck flipped over about an hour ago. >> reporter: this truck is just stuck there. the postal service prides itself in rain and sleet and snow but scary moments for this mail carrier. -- i've got to be careful myself because it is very slippery as you see. the street is not plowed. it has a tight curve so presumably what happened is that mail carrier was trying to navigate this curve and ended up tipping over. on one end of the street there's a police officer who wre talked to who wouldn't let us on the street. he told us we're going to get stuck. on the other end is a tow truck driver trying to figure out how to navigate to get the truck out of here. it's been here over an hour. as for the mail carrier he was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay. we called the postal service and they say they tell carriers to

use their discretion especially in inclement weather. and they also just advise residents, if you could, just shovel your sidewalks to make it easier for the carriers to do their job. in inclement weather, your mail might be a little bit late. again, this mail carrier was taken to the hospital just as a precaution. he's expected to be okay. some scary moments out here in roxbor roxborough. >> 202 where it intersects with route 1 is closed. homes and businesses in the area lost power after that crash. crews are still out tonight on route 202 trying to clean this up and get power restored. >> in south jersey, a scar skidded off 295 this afternoon.

this is near exit 11. check out left side of your screen. you can see that car down the enbankment. nj dot was plowing and salting but the wind kept blowing snow back on the roadways. >> we're seeing lingering snow showers at the jersey shore at nbc 10s drew smith is live. how is it looking out there? >> reporter: it's still piling up out here. it's been an all day thing. if you look you can see how much has dumped on the side of the road and it's tough to see where the road begins, it's a mess out here for travel and it's still snowing now at 6:00. a lot of people have been shoveling all day and it's not over yet. >> fast accumulating snow narrowed the atlantic city expressway to one lane at times as plow trucks tried to keep up with the falling snow. conditions deteriorating as the day went on. >> if you don't have four-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, you

might as well stay in the house. >> we saw spin outs and cars getting stuck, brandon white ran to help. >> there is a lot of snow but i'm only riding around because i have a truck. or else i would be stuck too. >> the winter mess stalled air traffic too. at atlantic city international, jets stay at their gate. it did not make for back breaking work. >> we did shovel where there was a lot of snow. >> since it didn't let up, the snow blowers and shovels made several trips down the driveway. mark had to work this saturday and afterward, had more labor waiting him at home. >> shoveling this and make sure we can get out and when we get cold enough we'll have hot chocolate. >> i wanted you to look at this live picture right now of where we're standing at the gas station. you can see the snow blowing off of the top of that roof. that's what we've been dealing with increasingly as the night

>> we continue to track snow and cold across the region. you're taking a live look at storm force 10 in south philadelphia where the roads look pretty clear out there and on the first alert radar, you can see the snow moving offshore. bill henley and erika martine are back in a couple of minutes with your neighborhood forecast. >> if you have loved ones flying into philadelphia, expect major delays. philadelphia international say there are delays up to three and a half hours for arriving flights. this morning a ground stop was effect but it was lifted just before 1:00 this afternoon. >> and now to the latest on that

deadly airport shooting in florida, flights resumed out of ft. lauderdale-hollywood international airport. nbc 10 talked to passengers arrive at philadelphia international, including ashley wilson, a ft. lauderdale native who attends delaware state university. >> it was a really hectic situation it was nerve-wracking and people were nervous. people in lines were watching surroundings, didn't know what was going to happen. the police officers were locked and loaded ready to go. >> investigators are still trying to pinpoint a motive for yesterday's rampage that killed five people and wounded at least six more. the fbi says it's not ruling out terrorism as a possibility. tonight we have learned the suspected shooter esteban santiago only checked a hand gun case and no luggage. investigators believe he flew to the airport specifically to carry out that attack. >> we may be drying out but we're getting ready for a blast of cold air already in the low

afternoon. >> and snow in south jersey did not stop andrew, the head pro at hidden creek golf club in egg harbor township. he's going to need more than a t-shirt if he wants to work on his short game again tomorrow. stadium employees brought out the heavy duty shovels to clear off the wells fargo in time for the flyers game. some fans were fired up for the afternoon game tailgating as that snow fell in south philadelphia. and taking a live look in south philadelphia now where the snow has stopped but the sports fans are filing in for a second spring event of the day. the villanova men's basketball team tips off at 7:00 p.m. all day long the streets department dedicated a salt truck to make sure the streets and parking lots around the complex are clear. in delaware, cars were offer the road, some spinning around as drivers had a difficult time navigating slick and snowy route 1 in new castle county.

right now that snow tapered off and has ended in parts of delaware. nbc 10s randy guillen hall is live in new castle county. how was your drive? >> reporter: we did see a number of cars sliding and crashing off the road. the snow was first to fall in delaware and first places to end. but when it left behind was a lot, especially in southern delaware. this is a couple of inches of snow in middletown and the good news the roads here starting to get a little bit better. i can tell you driving down route 1 in kent county was not a pretty sight today. along delaware roads, the plows keep up the best they can as cars spin out stuck in inches of fluffy nonstop snow. >> so the roads are pretty nasty x . >> we saw crashes and stuck trekz left and right.

>> we ask everyone to please stay home. >> every crew was called in. more than 400 people working the streets and highways. >> as soon as it started to snow, we started applying salt and just plowing and plowing, trying to keep primary roads open. >> the first flakes fell along the delaware beaches where some places got close to a foot. it was a winter ghost town in rehob edge. >> it doesn't matter that much i don't think. >> in wilmington, handing out free ice scrapers to shoppers cleaning off snowy cars. >> thank you. >> reporter: down in smyrna, as the snow started to let up, families came outside to see how much work was left and at lind da earl's house, the flag she put up last week seemed to work wonders. >> do you regret putting that up? >> i do. coming down tonight. >> those driveways and side

walks don't clean themselves. back here live in middletown, a lot of people starting to gas up, leaving their houses now because the snow stopped the roads, starting to get better depending where you are. that route 1 situation was pretty bad. it might take crews hours to get the roads perfectly clean. nbc 10 news. >> thank you, randy. we continue to track the last of the snow but tonight the cold air is moving and in by tomorrow morning temperatures are going to be in the single digits with some neighborhoods feeling like zero degrees. first alert meteorologist bill henley and erika martine are talking temperatures and timing it neighborhood by neighborhood and the conditions are improving, bill. >> snowwise, yes, because the last of the snow is moving offshore and will move offshore this evening. but tonight overnight tonight, the temperatures plummet and to make matters worse, the strong gusty winds will make things builterly cold on sunday. there's a lot going on this weekend. now we are seeing improvement

when it comes to the snow. there's the last of the very light snow in southern delaware and it's already ending in atlantic city, ocean county, you're still getting snowfall, it's not going to last much longer. it's already starting to taper off. moving in is cold air. there's no doubt this storm was going to be all snow from the lehigh valley to the shore because the warm air that sometimes comes with coastal storms was way offshore. you have to look way offshore to find any rain coming down. that cold is in place which means what's on the ground is going to stay on the ground unless it is clear. snow totals for delaware, 13 inches in ocean view. smyrna, 6 inches, dover, 3.5 and lewes, 10 inches. in new jersey, 6.45 on the ground stone harbor. 6 in gloucester township and 4.5 for vine land and there's still reports coming in. i expect to see totals higher than this.

in pennsylvania, officially so far in philadelphia, 2.4. that may go up a little bit with new reports coming in. lower makefield under 4 inches and chad's ford 3 inches and with temperatures like these, it's staying put. these temperatures look pretty compared to what's on the way tonight and tomorrow. erika martine has a look at the weekend, the rest of it and ahead. erika. >> that's right, all of those feels like temperatures, those stronger gusty northwesterly winds, right now we're mainly seeing 20s and however the big story is we have the stronger northwesterly winds making all of the difference. feels like temperature at 6:00 p.m. you're mainly seeing low double digits and single digits for egg harbor. otherwise as i get this going and pause by midnight, you're seeing low single digits, 1 degree, it's going to feel like

in pottstown and two for doylestown. however, this is where it gets a lot colder and certainly more interesting. be sure you bundle up because by 3:30 a.m. it's going to feel like it's 1 below in pottstown, 2 below in west chester, zero for sweeds borrow and doylestown and we're not done. we're going to feel colder by tomorrow morning. going to feel like 3 below for west chester. egg harbor, zero for you. however, we do have a break coming up soon enough. reprieve if you will. notice the ten day on ten. temperatures in the 20s for tomorrow and developing clouds into tuesday. more importantly we start to see a warm-up by wednesday into thursday. highs topping out in the low to mid-50s. we drop into the 40s by saturday and we could see showers moving in later next week. otherwise right now i'm sure we're all looking forward to the warm-up that will be here by tuesday into wednesday. here's john with sports.
