now i might have to put him through all that all over again? >> reporter: her sister-in-law also takes her 2-month-old daughter and 2-year-old step-daughter to the same pediatric office. >> it's scary knowing you're putting your children's lives in somebody's hands, trusting everything they say. >> reporter: officials say it's not dangerous to receive improperly stored vaccines but they could be less effective at prevents disease. authorities say children who got the shots between november 2014 and july 28th of last year should be re-evaluated. the state health department is mailing letters to impacted families this week. blyman's office is located in a building on the campus of southern ocean medical center. a woman who answered the phone when i called the office today said neither blyman for anyone else there had any comment. >> he's a doctor. he should know exactly what he needs to do to make sure these vaccinations are good. >> reporter: the new jersey department of health has compiled a statement against dr.

blyman. it alleges gross negligent, professional misconduct and other violations. in stafford township, ted greenberg, nbc 10 news. now to our weather in parts of our area could see freezing rain tonight. we take a live look at first alert radar. it all depends on where you live. people all around the region are dealing with another day of bitterly cold temperatures. this was the scene this afternoon in upper darby. a live look down broad street in center city. another cold day as people go to and from work, but changes are coming. the wet weather we're getting tonight is bringing a big warm-up behind it. >> first we have to get through the rain. glenn "hurricane" schwartz is tracking the showers and the icy conditions for some people out there. glenn? >> yes, looks like it is going to be raining tonight. the atmosphere is warming up everyall but will the surface temperatures warm up enough? this area of light snow in

northeast pennsylvania, most of that not reaching the ground. this is the area that we're watching in central pennsylvania now. that is some freezing rain. obviously, moving straight to the east. there are other areas back to the west. this is the heavier area. that's going to be coming through our region during the middle of the night. you can see most places are at or above the freezing mark already. but we need all the places to get above freezing. so if you get rain and the temperature's still below freezing, you got freezing rain. makes things icy. don't want that. at least towards 30 degrees now, reading at 31, kutztown 28, these temperatures will be slowly rising through the evening but will they rise fast enough. i think there's going to end up with at least a period of some freezing rain.

this is more likely around 10:00 when we have the light freezing rain across lehigh valley and berks county and then the warmer air takes over and it becomes just rain. the heaviest of this is right in the middle of the night. 2:00 a.m. temperatures continue to rise overnight. by the morning rush tomorrow, it's already out of here. and look at those temperatures. that's just the beginning of the warm-up. we'll see how warm it's going to get and how long that's going to last in a few minutes. big changes, glenn. all right, to the transition of donald trump. first big test of the president-elect's cabinet picks under way in washington. >> the confirmation hearing for attorney general candidate jeff sessions has been contentious so far on day one. taking a live look from capitol hill, the senator has faced opposition from democrats concerned about his civil rights record, hardline immigration stance and opposition to hillary clinton during the campaign. nbc 10's erin holeman has more.

largely over allegations of racism. >> let me address another issue straight on. i was accused in 1986 of failing to protect the voting rights of african-americans and of condemning civil rights advocates and organizations and even arguing, amazingly, sympathies for the kkk. these are venerably false charges. >> reporter: sessions covered a wide range of topics saying he does not support a ban on muslims entering the united states but does support keeping guantanamo bay open. when asked about any allegations of hillary clinton or the investigation. >> i believe the proper thing for me to do would be recuse myself from any questions involving those kind of investigations. >> reporter: now, senator sessions says he plans to uphold the laws congress passes even if he doesn't agree with them,

answering questions specific by about gay marriage and abortion. >> erin coleman, all right. expect to testify against sessions tomorrow is cory booker. booker is one of three black senators. he would become the first sitting senator to testify against a fellow sitting senator for a cabinet position. booker accuses sessions of having a disconcerting record on civil rights. the attorney general is responsible for ensuring the fair administration of justice and based on his record, i lack confidence that senator sessions can honor this duty. the nation's top intelligence officials were also called to capitol hill to testify today about a report on russia's involvement in the president's election. that report concluded that russia meddled in the election by hacking democratic party e-mails to help donald trump win the white house. among those at today's hearing were the directors of the cia, nsa and fbi. a philadelphia school bus

driver faces charges after police say he left a 7-year-old student on his bus while he went grocery shopping. police tell us jam ar henry stopped at the shoprite in west philadelphia yesterday afternoon and told the boy to stay on that bus while he ran inside. a passer-by spotted that child and called police. the boy was not hurt. he's ta . the search is on for four men responsible for a pair of violent crimes in philadelphia's frankford section early this morning. they attacked and robbed a woman as she was walking from septa station, then men matching the same description robbed and shot a man a few blocks away. he's expected to be okay as is the woman who was attacked. the mayor of paulsboro helped save a woman from a burning home this morning. skyforce 10 was over the home. mayor gary stevens spotted those

flames while out on the road. he stopped and started banging on doors until a girl inside woke up. stevens is also a vollen fear firefighter but he was on his way to trenton for governor christie's state of the state address when he spotted the fire. governor christie said he's aiming at tackling the state's opioid problem. >> jim, christie called it a crisis that's destroying families and ripping the very fabric of the state. around his two terms the governor is focused on drug policy, expanding drug courts and expanding the use of the overdose prevention drug narcan. now he's calling for launching a one-stop website to make it easier the access treatments and more money to pay for it. >> i will not have a flood of addicted new jerseyans on my hands. i will not willingly watch another 1600 of our citizens die

raise that to $10.25 an hour. it's tough to make a living on the lower wage. opponents say the minimum wage is a starting point, not a salary. a broken water main causing problems in lower merion. you can see the water just flowing right up through the ground down the side of the road here. a man accused of killing an 8-year-old girl during a shoot-out in camden last summer says he didn't do it. he pleaded not guilty today. he was captured in tennessee last september. he's accused of shooting and killing gabby hill carter back in august. the girl was caught in the crossfire while playing outside her home. brown's girlfriend and mother are accused of helping him hide. last year's robbery of kim kardashian west in a paris hotel room, officials think it may

have been an inside job. kardashian's driver and his younger brother were among those taken into custody this week. officials are not elaborating on how they believe that theft was planned. a jury is now deciding the fate of the south carolina man who gunned down nine people inside a historic black church in charleston. this afternoon jurors began deliberating whether dillon roof should get the death penalty or life in prison. he opened fire on a group that welcomed him at a church bible study in june of 2015. he gave a closing statement today never asking the jury to spare his life. at one point he said, he felt like he to commit the slayings. he told the jury, i still feel like i had to do it. new details in a deadly center city crash that left a woman dead back in november. authorities have now charged the driver, david gonzalez, with homicide by vehicle and other offenses. investigators say gonzalez was speeding when he crashed into two women at 11th and market.

one of the victims, anna gonzalez, later died from her injuries. anyone who denies access to someone with a service dog could be fined. that's under a new bill proposed in new jersey. that bill is named for a service dog in cherry hill named charlie. charlie's law would create a $250 fine for not allowing someone with a service dog in a business or other places. it happened after a cherry hill high school student named ben shore pushed the school district to change its policy about service dogs. charlie's law is now head to a full senate after a senate committee gave it the okay. a cumberland county man accused of killing his estranged wife in front of their children wants to represent himself in court. police say jeremiah monell stabbed taraoshae in her home last month. he needs to file a motion that the judge been consider. we now know what caused the death of two beloved hollywood stars.

according to her death certificate, actress debbie reynolds died from a type of stroke that causes bleeding in the brain. officials listed high blood pressure as an underlying cause. reynolds died last month a day after the death of her daughter, carrie fisher. and fisher's death certificate lists the cause of death as cardiac arrest deferred. now, deferred usually means the coroner is waiting for more test results like toxicology reports. the actress best known as princess leia was laid to rest with her mother last week. upper darby police officers want more protection on the job. today police superintendent michael chitwood announced each officer will get new bulletproof vests. the officers will wear the new vests over their existing bulletproof vests. >> the unfortunate thing is because we are under siege, because we are being shot and killed, the most recent was the tragedy that occurred in

orlando, florida, i can see the need for it. >> last year 64 police officers were shot and killed in the line of duty. nbc 10 is learning new information about the case of a 14-year-old girl found murdered. nbc 10 has reported that grace packer's adopted mother sara was a foster mother to 30 other children. >> now we learned those children may prove crucial in a murder case against packer. deanna durante has the latest developments. >> are you surprised at what she was able to do over the years? >> yes, i am. and saddened by it. >> reporter: sara packer is sitting in bucks county prison today. we asked the district attorney about the foster children packer had in her home from 2000 to 2010. >> we're definitely interested in that aspect of the case. it's part of the ongoing investigation. >> reporter: state workers with the department of health and human services said they're working with departments to learn where those children, some

of whom could be adults, are today. police have been in touch with at least some of those who once lived with packer. how many sources won't confirm or say what information if any they have shared. >> we continue to get tips. we have some people that are cooperating with us and we are still vigorously investigating this case. it's not over by a long shot. >> on sunday morning sara packer was arrested and charged in her daughter's rape and murder. police say packer and her boyfriend, jacob sullivan cooked up a rape/murder fantasy and they put her adopted daughter grace in the middle of it. the two murdered grace, hid her body, dismembered it, then dumped her near a dam in lucerne county. she is in the bucks county prison as her boyfriend is. jacob sullivan. who gave a confession to police in the hours before his arrest. deanna durante, nbc 10 news.

our team has also been closely following this case. right now on the nbc 10 app you can read more about why sara packer was fired from her social worker job in montgomery county. turning back to our weather. where you can see snow still left sitting on the beach in ventnor. it's cold there, too. some parts of the jersey shore were in the single digits this morning. >> looking for anyone out there on the sand. and they are just not there. >> no one's going be out there. >> no? >> maybe in a few days. >> because we've got a warm-up coming. >> temperatures will be in the 60s over much of the area and snow on the ground, that's going to be gone. we're already seeing some of the melting. we're seeing bare ground in parts of the area as temperatures have finally gotten above freezing for the first time since last thursday. now, we did check out the temperatures in the lehigh valley just a few minutes ago. the other area that we have to watch carefully is in chester, upper montgomery, upper bucks

counties. unionville 31, west chester right at 32, malvern's 31. you can see several of these places already above freezing. like i said, the temperature's going to be rising during the night tonight. so we're in pretty good shape in a lot of these places. we'll keep monitoring those temperatures hour by hour because, of course, going to be critical. regular rain just makes it wet. freezing rain makes it icy. and it's dangerous to travel. but as you can see, there's precipitation in central and western pennsylvania is pretty light. the heavier stuff is way back to the west. and by the time that gets here, we all should be above the freezing mark. let's take a closer look at the lehigh valley and berks county here. this is 9:30 tonight. we're just starting to see some of that light freezing rain move through. maybe mixed with a few snowflakes. there's 11:30 tonight where

there could be some slippery driving. but as we go into the middle of the night, it's turning more and more to regular rain except perhaps in some of the pocono areas and later on tonight it is out of here. it's gone by 5:00 a.m. and because the temperatures are up, the icing, any icing that occurs in the middle of the night should be gone by morning. so as we go through the night, watch the temperatures go up. watch the area heavy rain come through. and then it's gone. so we're dry during the day tomorrow. temperatures going up through the 40s to near 50 degrees. then tomorrow night we have more rain coming through. some of this on the heavy side, but look at the temperatures. in the 40s. so we're not concerned about freezing rain or snow or anything like that. look at this over the next few days. tomorrow's high 50 with the rain coming in at night. thursday dry. 65 degrees.

friday morning we start at 47. by afternoon we're down to 43. so we just have one really warm day here. some of the suburbs and the lehigh valley not getting to 50 degrees during the day tomorrow. so like i said, we got a one-day warm-up. jersey shore, 50, 60, 50. makes it kind of simple. we'll talk more about some threats over the weekend for some snow coming up a little bit later. changing the face of some of your favorite local shopping destinations. >> i think it's going to get worse before it gets better. >> the closing of several macy's stores have local malls trying to make themselves relevant to consumers. still ahead, the big changes you can expect at some of your favorite shopping destinations. plus, heartbreak then hardship. nbc 10 responds is there to help fight one man's battle with his insurance company. amazing video of rescue crews saving a little girl.

this is nbc 10 news. take a look at this minivan that rolled down an embankment in washington. a woman and her three young kids were in there when it slid off an icy road. you see rescuers with the little girl. they get her out and try to have her walk up the ladder, but when that doesn't work, they just carried her up. thankfully everyone's doing just fine. tickets to president-elect trump's inauguration aren't exactly easy to come by. >> yeah, but when a guy in the poconos got his hands on a pair,

he decided to kind of pay it forward. john peterson requested inauguration tickets from senator bob casey's office. casey's office notified him he was being awarded two tickets. now peterson is taking those tickets and giving them to a high school student named kyle rundle. the two got to know each other at the same gym in monroe county. they share a bond over their support for donald trump. >> a really nice guy. and i'm still surprised that he picked me for it. >> it makes me feel good. it's the american youth. it's a once in a lifetime opportunity. >> some inauguration tickets are going for nearly $15,000 each online. kyle and his dad will pick up theirs at senator casey's washington office while heading to the inauguration coming up on the 20th. a man's battle with his insurance company only added to his pain after losing the love of his life. >> anything that they wanted, i did everything they asked. >> next on nbc 10 news at 4:00,

this video captured earlier this afternoon up at camelback mountain. folks taking advantage of the good skiing out there. our counties to the north could see icy conditions overnight but rain will cover most of the area. >> nbc 10 first alert chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz is track that weather tonight in your neighborhood. >> we have two things going for us. number one, the temperatures are on the way up. even during the night. number two. the precipitation pretty light as we go through the state of pennsylvania. this area, most of that didn't even reach the ground. if it did, it would just be flurries. this stuff actually looks like it's weakening as it moves to the east. this is stronger, as you can see. moving to the east. but by the time that gets here in the middle of the night, everybody should be warm enough that it's just rain. we have some areas that are closer to freezing point right now. we have to watch these

temperatures hour by hour. you may recall last night we were showing some of these places in new jersey. down single digits. look at them now. everybody's above freezing. violent 39 degrees. it was more than 30 degrees colder than that last night. so the temperatures have really gone up. mt. worrell, lumberton at 38 degrees. so those numbers just keep climbing during the night. as we go through the night, you'll see 10:00 we have a chance of some rain in the philadelphia area, but it's 39. 37 in the p.a. suburbs. 35 in lehigh valley for the most part. but we'll have to watch that and monitor that just to make sure that that's going up to 32 and above. in delaware, new jersey and, of course, the jersey shore, temperatures are much higher than that. the only place with any rain by 6:00 a.m. could be at the jersey shore. we'll talk more about the weekend snow threat coming up in

a few minutes. turning to nbc 10 responds now, a man faces heartbreak after losing the love of his life. >> and a battle with his insurance company only added to that pain after nearly six months of phone calls and letters and still no help, he turned to nbc 10 responds and harry hairston. harry? >> you got to imagine this gentleman's frustration. the man said all he needed was a simple name change on a check. a change that didn't come until we got involved. john and his dog puppy take daily walks in remembrance of his late wife diana. >> i walk her like my wife did down the corner and back again. >> reporter: diana passed away last february after the couple spent 45 years together. >> i miss her so much. >> reporter: but trying to take care of bills after her death. he received a check from independence blue cross the pay out a claim for one of her doctor's visits but the check was in diana's name so john couldn't cav it.

>> i asked the insurance company for a replacement check with my name on it. that's all. >> reporter: that was back in july. the company did send another check, nkt, two more, but same problem each time. they were in his wife's name. he contacted the company again and again. >> writing letters and sending in the death certificate. anything that they wanted. i did everything they asked. i wasn't getting anywhere. >> reporter: so wootten called us for help. the company said they'd look into it. it tells us it offers its deepest condolences to wootten and says that it needed dashl paperwork which caused the delay. just a few weeks later he got his check. >> i want to thank nbc responds channel 10 for helping me get it. >> that's great. >> took a long time. >> thank you. >> oh, sure. so we got that done with. independence blue cross tells us nbc 10 responds, it will be

you might want to check those holiday sweets that still might be around the house because two companies are recalling treats. hostess recalled its holiday white peppermint twinkies and palmer candy company including chocolate almond bark and holiday pretzels. testing has not shown any salmonella and no one has gotten sick. this is just a precaution. many younger adults with high cholesterol may not be getting adequate treatment and that could increase the risk for heart disease. cholesterol lowering statins are recommended for all adults with ldl or bad cholesterol levels above 190. but many adults under 40 are not being prescribed the drugs. some parts of our area could see a little freezing rain tonight but we could also see

this is nbc 10 news. a deep clean is under way at an illinois high school after 800 students were out sick with flu-lick symptoms. classes at the suburban chicago school were canceled today. officials are not sure exactly what caused the illnesses but they're asking students and teachers to take preventive measures. other schools in the district were cleaned out of precaution. a michigan man is using social media to fire back at police. >> all this over a traffic ticket he got. nick taylor says an severe gave him a ticket for leaving his car running and unattended. he started his car to warm it up and went inside for five minute, but when he went outside, he had

skies across the area. no precipitation at the moment. we've checked out some of the cold spots for the local temperature because the freezing mark, of course, critical tonight because rain's coming in. in philadelphia itself in the city, even in the usual cold spots like andorra, chestnut hill, west mount airy, bustleton, all well above the freezing mark and that should condition overnight. if anything temperatures are going up. very light precipitation. that's a good thing, too. by this time this area of ohio and indiana gets in here, the temperatures will be even warmer. we'll be in better shape late late tonight and into tomorrow morning. the futurecast hour by hour as we go into the evening. that's when we start seeing the best chance of any kind of freezing rain or icing, if you're up in thisser ya, berks

county, lehigh valley, poconos, late this evening that's when we may want to hold off the trip until tomorrow morning because watch what happens. we go from the light freezing rain to regular rain as the temperatures go up. here's the middle of the night. it's nice and wet. more snow melts. and by morning, it's all over with. and the temperature continues to go up. dry during the day tomorrow. 40s to near 50, then comes the rain tomorrow night. some of that on the heavier side, but the temperatures are way above freezing. and then we dry out for thursday and watch the temperatures go up even more. for tomorrow, these raindrops that we're seeing, that's for the showers tomorrow evening. during the daytime hours, it should be dry. look at this. 50 degrees in tacony, langhorne up to 50. that's still a lot warmer than what we had today.

50 in robinville and new jersey. maybe early in the morning at long pfrt also. rehoboth beach up to 50 degrees are melting the rest of that snow. the arctic air has been with us. it's going to be retreating. it will get closer on friday as temperatures drop, but we're in the getting the core of this. so we're going to be seeing milder air coming in next week. there we are. more mild air. and you can see this reflected in the ten-day forecast. so there's the rain on wednesday. again, that's coming in wednesday night, then the 65 on thursday. then we drop friday. falling temperatures during the day. and then saturday we have a chance of some light snow coming into the area. maybe even the philadelphia region. and not a huge storm. and then look at next week starting tuesday. we're back into the 50s. so we're going to bel cou lcool

we have breaking news out of south carolina, a jury has just decided the fate of dylann roof and the sentence is death for roof in the shooting and killing of nine black church members in charleston, south carolina. they could have given him life in prison. again, the jurors have just decided unanimously on each count the sentence is death. they've been deliberating this afternoon. he was convicted by the same jury last month. and he opened fire on that group that welcomed him at that church bible study back in june of 2015. much more on this verdict, this breaks story ahead on nbc 10 news at 5:00. to this now. the way people shop is changing. >> and that means big malls and shopping centers for looking for ways to keep customers like you and me from spending.
