for a limited time. but this is what we're seeing here. this area in pink in western pennsylvania obviously moving straight eastward and it's rain. it's not snow. so if it moves into areas that are below freezing, it sticks on any surface, creates layer of ice and then you got problems. eventually we'll be getting into this area. heavier rain by that time temperatures will be well above freezing everywhere. as you can see, in general we're above the freezing mark across our area. even in many parts of the lehigh valley. we showed you some of these temperatures a couple of hours ago. and they're coming up very slowly. fleetwood, kutztown at 29 degrees. so this still has a little ways to go. bassett 29, nazareth at 30, and bethlehem at 31. you have to monitor these temperatures hour by hour

because here comes that area of pink. so by 10:00, it could be a little bit of freezing rain in parts of berks county and the lehigh valley, but as the main area comes in, everybody warms up and gets rain. i'll be back to talk about chances of some snow even in philly for the weekend coming up. right now at 6:00, vaccination worries for the parents of hundreds of jersey shore kid z. >> i'm scared to send them to school. >> they thought they did everything right to make sure their kids were safe. but the vaccination shots their kids did get may have been ruined. about 900 jersey shore children may need to be revaccinated. >> jersey shore reporter ted greenberg talks to a family now scared their kids aren't safe. >> it's really scary. >> reporter: michelle bevilaqua says she's concerned her 2-year-old step-daughter alana

might not be fully protected against several serious diseases. >> i fear for her going to school. she's susceptible to a lot of different things there, but not only what could happen to her but other children. >> reporter: the lacy township mom who also has a 2-month-old says alana received vaccinations at southern ocean pediatrics and family medicine in stafford township. the medical office of dr. michael bleiman. authorities say that 900 children who participated in a free or low-cost vaccine program in ocean county through that office may need to be revaccinated for ailments including measles, mumps, chicken pox and polio because the vaccines they received might not have been properly refrigerated. befb el bevilaqua's sister-in-law also takes her two sons to the same pediatrician's office. >> he's a doctor. he knows what he needs to do to make sure these vaccinations are good. >> reporter: a woman who answered the phone when i called

the office today said neither bleiman nor anyone else there had any comment. health officials say it's not dangerous to receive improperly stored vaccines, but they could be less effective at preventing disease. authorities say children who got the shots between november 2014 and july 28th of last year should be re-evaluated. the new jersey department of health has filed a complaint with the state board of medical examiners against dr. bleiman. it alleges gross negligence, professional misconduct and other violations. in stafford township, i'm ted greenberg, nbc 10 news. it says handling errors cost thousands. it's better to not vaccinate at all than to give a dose that may have been mishandled. the former military science instructor at north penn high school is accused of having sex with a student. mark miller faced a judge today.

in december the school's principal called police after several students told him miller was involved with a student in the program. the victim told police miller said he was divorcing his wife and talked about having children with her. a philadelphia school bus driver faces charges this evening after police say he left a 7-year-old student on the bus while he went grocery shopping. police tell us jamar henry picked up the second grader from cornerstone christian academy in west philly. shortly afterward he stopped at a shop-rite and told the boy to stay on the bus while he ran inside, according to authorities. passer-by spotted the child and called police who arrived to find the driver still inside the store. >> you can't tell a 7-year-old to sit tight on a running bus in west philadelphia. it just doesn't make sense to me. >> reporter: police charged henry with endangering the welfare of a child and they found marijuana on him as well. the boy was not hurt. new details in the

investigation on how a 50-pound dumbbell smashed right through the windshield of a car on the new jersey turnpike. state police tell us today they're reviewing surveillance from traffic cameras close to where that happened. a 75-year-old driver was critically injured when this dumbbell hit his windshield in oldman township salem county yesterday morning. chris christie gave his final state of the state address today. he announced he'll spend his final year in office fighting the heroin epidemic. christie says if your family hasn't been touched in some way by opioid drug addiction consider yourself fortunate. >> cydney long explains his plan to stop the epidemic in the garden state. >> reporter: eric thornton and cassie waterfield know the drug epidemic in new jersey all too well. they have lost friends. >> not just friends but close family members, you know, to heroin, crack, all types of drugs, you know. so definitely with me it sticks home. >> reporter: waterfield says her addiction could have cost her

her life. >> as worse as you can picture it, that's as bad as it got. >> reporter: both recovered and clean they applaud governor christie's promise to tackle addictions head-on. >> only through the gris ace ofd has it not touched your family already. you are among the lucky ones. your luck could run out at any moment. >> reporter: gloucester township police is proud of project safe in his town and works closely with the addiction aware been task force. even if you don't personally know someone using drugs incarceration uses money and their habit or desperation could hurt you. >> they don't just commit one crime, they commit five burglaries. so when we can stop one person, we're not just stopping one crime, we're stopping many. >> this is affecting how we fight crime. police are in danger every day. >> reporter: christie vowed today to spend his final months in office saving lives. he unveiled a one stop no one

turned away website reach new jersey.gov as a statewide guide for prevention and recovery even if you're uninsured. earle says it's time. >> we need to provide those services because someone who has a drug addiction, if they're not in jail, there's a likelihood that they could reoffend. so let's get them treatment so they don't offend, they don't overdose and maybe they can recover and live a great life. >> from gloucester township, cydney long. the governor was forced to pause his address after a pastor had a health problem. you can see people gathered around pastor joe carter on the top right of your screen. the pastor from newark's new hope baptist church had to be taken out of the chamber. it's unclear what caused him to collapse. confirmation showdown. senator jeff sessions in the hot seat today. donald trump's pick for attorney general grilled on capitol hill on accusations of past racist

comments and sympathy for the kkk. >> these are venerably false charges, for the klan and what it represents and its hateful ideology. >> sessions will likely be confirmed. republicans hold a majority in the senate and no gop senators have spoken out against the nomination. but new jersey senator cory booker is expected to testify against sessions tomorrow. the democrat is one of three black senators and in his statement booker accused sessions of having a, quote, concerning record on civil rights and criminal justice reform. a flurry of activity on the hill today. robert menendez was among a group of lawmakers who unveiled a russian sanctions bill. that bill is dubbed the countering russian hostilities act of 2017. it's designed to send a message that key republicans are committed to punishing russia for its alleged hacking. the bill would impose visa bans and freeze the assets of those

who undermine the cyber security of the public. president obama will deliver his farewale address to the nation tonight. the president will speak in chicago, the city that launched his political career. it is his last chance to try to define what his presidency meant for america. he'll also deliver a plea to americans to not limit space in their future. you can watch the speech tonight at 9:00 live. no at 6:00, the owners of three philadelphia restaurants are responding to the city's new soed ta tax in a unique way. they're matching the tax and donating that money to a local school. the couple owns hawthorns and two other restaurants in the city, the cambridge and theo fluoresoo flores. all are paying the tax on sugary drinks in an effort to fund education. but the couple says they'll match that and donate the money to the andrew jackson school where their son starts in the fall. pennsylvania's spending big to make it easier for you to get around without a car.

officials say $33 million in federal funding has been earmarked for improvements to so-called alternative transportation. this includes things like philadelphia's indigo bike share program. the plan also calls for a number of sidewalk improvements and preserving historic transportation structures. softwaremaker s.a.p. is adding 400 jobs in pennsylvania. 150 of those jobs will be at the company's u.s. headquarter in new town square delaware county. s.a.p. is the world's largest business software company. a class action lawsuit was filed against the bank headquarter in cherry hill last week. the suit says it's illegal for the bank to charge a $20 fee if the customer doesn't replenish an overdrawn account in ten days. that fee is on top of an initial overdraft fee of $35. td bank declined to comment on the suit. also in delaware, former

wilmington fire chief anthony good has been demoted, but he won't be fired. the mayor said good will be placed on special assignment until he can retire this year. he's dmoemoting good over disagreements in running the fire department. police are getting a tool they hope they never have to use. the police foundation is donating 100 downed officer kits to the department. it includes turnic ets, face shields and trauma shears. the kits are small enough to fit in a glove box. it could be icy in some neighborhoods plus a big warm-up that will push temperatures into the 60s. the dream of home ownership is on hold for some delaware families. habitat for humanity having a pretty severe volunteer shortage.

could save your life. nbc 10 got a look at these imaging cameras. it detects heat given off by objects. the cameras should be in the field within in next couple of weeks. also new at 6:00, fewer people in delaware are getting new homes through habitat for humanity. >> because the group is dealing with a volunteer shortage in first state. >> delaware bureau reporter tim furlong shows us the impact on families. >> this smi house right here. >> reporter: well, this will be margaret's house in wilmington. and she's helping to build it. >> yeah. i tell my kids, i'm out there sweating for us. >> reporter: but margaret's habitat for humanity home and 14 other habitat houses are now behind schedule. we should be hearing a lot more of this -- and a whole lot more of this -- but habitat's small staff relies heavily on volunteers to help them do the work and right now there's not

enough. >> this year is a lot slower than normal. we're doing more with less resources than normal. >> reporter: lot of delaware companies organize groups and let their employees volunteer for habitat and the numbers do usually go down in the cold winter months and around the holidays but i'm told they don't usually go down this low. if you can help call habitat's office in wilmington. they'll teach you everything you need to know and you you'll pick up valuable skills you can use in your own house. >> i helped paint and everything. >> reporter: she's putting in a couple hundred hours of work. even a couple hours of your time might help her get in her home to plant that garden she's dreamed of. >> our first home is going to be on. >> reporter: tim furlong, nbc 10 news. a horse in chester county is safe in its stable tonight all thanks to the quick work of some local firefighters. these pictures were sent in to nbc 10 by the east whiteland

fire company. crews were called to a pond on hollow road after reports of a horse stuck in the ice. fortunately they were able to free the horse and get it to dry land. finally a break in the bitter freeze. nbc 10 at the italian market this afternoon where people were enjoying the start, the start of a warm-up. but it's coming with rain tonight. glenn, you are tracking late night wet weather. >> yeah, that's right. we have warmer temperatures during the night. we have rain in the middle of the night. so more and more snow is going to get melted. visibility is excellent now. no precipitation in the area yet. temperatures generally above freezing and will go up during the night tonight. everybody's got cloudy skies. we continue to check the area especially north and west of philadelphia, the normally colder spots, to make sure they're going above 32 degrees. and with the frozen weather we've had recently, i'd be more comfortable with 34, 35 degrees

because sometimes the ground is even colder than these official air temperatures. malvern's 31, so we've got a couple of degrees to go. collegeville at 33, milford 31, bed minster, 32, no hope's 32, new town and washington are all already 35. like i said, they're going up. this is what's coming down, this pink area is freezing rain and colder areas in central pennsylvania. back to the west is more moisture, but by the time that gets here it's plenty warm enough to be just rain. as you can see here by 10:00, we're starting to see a little bit of light freezing rain possible. berks county, lehigh valley and certainly the poconos. the poconos can see some snow, too. but by the middle of the night, everybody's warming up. heavier rain coming in, more snow melting. and by daybreak, by the morning

rush, it's all out of here and plenty warm enough that we don't have to worry about any kind of icing or snow in the morning. look at the high temperatures. fairmount up to 50 degrees. this rain, that's coming tomorrow night for the most part. again night rain allentown to 46 during the day. so we're really warming up tomorrow. melting more of that snow. melt more of that snow in avalon at 49 degrees. rehoboth beach at 49 degrees. the arctic air is exiting and we'll see much warmer weather overall for the next couple of weeks. not just thursday when it's 65 degrees, because it cools down on friday, saturday, sunday. look at saturday. a high of only 34 with a chance of some light snow. then it's chilly sunday and monday, then look at that warm-up for next week.
