change. this is a difference between yesterday during our 5:00 p.m. newscast and now. 14 degrees warmer in philadelphia. 11 in dover. and 10 in atlantic city. and the warm up is not done yet. in fact, we're going to see temperatures very mild overnight as we track that rain move through. then we'll be watching that big warm up with the warmest temperatures for this week hitting tomorrow and then finally that rollercoaster takes us back down. we're dropping the temperatures falling and the potential for snow. coming up in a minute we'll take aer look at all three of these things. >> thank you. donald trump went on the attack in his first news conference in 167 days. he called the recent stories about his connections to russia fake news and he defended other decisions that have been controversial. >> andrea cline thomas joining us with more on the news conference that everybody is talking about. >> his priorities about fulfilling campaign promises and possibly clearing up concerns that would undermine his

leadership. >> these papers are the many piece being put into trust to be run by two sons. >> reporter: trump handing over leadership of the trump organization to his sons donald and eric. to avoid the appearance of a conflict of interest. a newly hired ethics advisor will scrutinize future deals. the law does not require trump's resignation from managing his company. >> i could run my business and run government at the same time. i don't like the way that looks, but i able to do that, if i wanted to. >> reporter: instead trump will focus on repealing the affordable care act, more commonly known as obamacare as one of his firsters of business as president. >> it'll be repeal and replace. it will be essentially simultaneously. >> reporter: a plan his administration intends onning himself rather than waiting for congress. but trump still has not provided

details. >> reporter: we're going to get a health bill passed. we'll get health care taken care of. >> reporter: also high on the president-elect's list building the mexican wall he says they'll pay for. >> that will happen. whether it's a tax or whether it's a payment. probably less likely that it's a payment. >> reporter: coming up at 6:00 what plans to do during his first hundred days in office. >> thank you. joining us now is nbc news political editor mark murray. everybody wanted trump to address russia. there are questions about his business ties and his relationship with vladimir putin and the report that russia has comprising information about him. talk about how he handled all the questions today >>well, he blasted the news media for going too far on that. and what nbc news found in a report when intelligence reporters ended up briefing donald trump on russia's role

among the intelligence they ended up having some stuff about what -- what other countries say they may have on donald trump. but we were able to report that donald trump himself never even read that just due to some of the security concerns inside trump tower. but to me the biggest news of the day, as it relates to russia is that donald trump ended up saying that russia was behind the hacking of the democratic national committee as well as a top clinton staffer john podesta. donald trump didn't condemn russia. he said his relationship with vladimir putin might end up being an asset to the united states. i think that was a big take away when it comes to russia. >> mark, the response trump gave to that that surprised you or you didn't expect it? >> reporter: oh, well, one i thought that the press conference overall was pretty surprising. it was unlike most press conferences you have for a president-elect. everything with trump, i think,

has been extraordinary. to me, another piece of news that came out i thought was very striking was donald trump's admission that dubai, in a business person related to dubai offered donald trump's company $2 billion deal, which donald trump said he refused is kind of an example of how he was going to eliminate conflicts of interest. the revelation raises the question on have other governments and foreign entities end up doing the same thing after his victory on november 8th. >> mark murray, thank you for joining us. donald trump not only denied the reports that russia obtained comprising information on him. he went after the news agencies that reported it, as mark said. >> listen to the exchange with the reporter from cnn. >> not you. not you. not you. >> reporter: you're attacking our news organization. can you give us a chance to ask a question, sir. >> go ahead. >> quiet. quiet. quiet. >> mr. president-elect -- can you give us -- >> don't be rude.

car that was parked as well as a septa service truck. he couldn't get away. so the owner of the parked car got out with a licensed gun. >> the man with the gun was yelling to stop him and tackle him. he tried to break into his car. i ended up tackling him. >> joe kelly said his older brother helped and the good samaritan helped from there. the good samaritan shot the guy in the leg. police searching for two men who stole thousands of dollars in cash from a woman's home. investigate say the men knocked on the victim's door when the woman answered, police say they barged in, went upstairs, and took $15,000. no one was hurt. a warning from police departments in montgomery county. don't make yourself or your car a for thieves. tonight neighborhoods are surprised how brazen some of the thieves have become. nbc 10 joins us live with more.

>> reporter: police are starting to get surprised, too. with just how brazen these guys are. they say they broke into homes here in the township in the last couple of nights while people were sleeping and drove their cars right out of the garages in their homes. >> that's really scary. >> colleen ryan heard about car thefts nearby. she didn't know on january 10th, two people woke up to find thieves were in their house and the cars had been swiped from the garages. all while they slept upstairs. >> it scares me. i'm alone. >> reporter: she had not heard about the they haves or the fact that two of the cases the thieves were brazen enough to enter the houses as the victims slept. >> i take my purse upstairs with me. >> reporter: that's one way to protect yourself, according to multiple police departments. nbc 10 reached out to today. police say while car thefts are not knew, you don't need to make

it easy on the thieves. she would never leave her keys in her car. >> i've seen it already. they leave their pocketbooks in there. that's an invitation. >> reporter: police say two homes near spring house were entered between midnight and 6:00 a.m. the thieves took valuables and the car keys they found out in the open and those cars from the garages. investigators can't say if the thefts ared, but they say in both cases the thieves took high-end cars. >> that's crazy. i don't know how people don't lock up their house at night. that's nuts. how do they get into their house? >> reporter: now it's two crimes in the same night, police departments across the country are warning you don't leave your keys, your purse, your wallet anything in the car. don't leave purses and keys within plain view. but if somebody walks by the windows of your house they may be tempted to come inside and take what they can get. we know an icy road lead to school bus accident in newark this morning. over windsor drive and country

drive around 7:30. the bus fish tailed after hitting an ice patch and crashed into a tree three students and the driver were taken to the hospital to be checked out. waiting to find out if the weather played a part in another school bus accident in delaware this morning. this in wilmington. 13 students were hurt when the bus crashed at pennsylvania and woodland avenues. all the students are expected to be okay. pennsylvania's governor has his first official challenger for re-election. state senator scott wagner. wagner announced he'll seek the republican nomination and attempt to unseat tom wolf next year. 61 and a staunch critic of governor wolf. he has been in office since 2014. he owns a $65 million waste hauling company. today the mayor received a leadership award for his efforts to end human trafficking. it was part of human trafficking awareness month. united methodist church hosted

an interactive awareness event. survivors told stories and experts talked to residents about recognizing the crime. a new castle county school district wants you to vote for a tax increase. where will the money go? the colonialial school district wants to make the entrances to schools more secure. they need money to maintain staffing, expand preschool technology, and renovate a middle school. residents will vote february 28th. police officers save lives every single day. maybe not the way one sergeant did. how he saved a liver transplant in danger of falling through. plus, it's more than bats and balls. the top prospect for the philly's farm system. and backseat controversy. why doctors are worried that the trump administration will spark new concerns about their safety.

donald trump faced questions from the press today. his cabinet picks faced them in front of congress. today was the president-elect trump's pick for secretary of state in the hot seat on capitol hill. senators grilled rex tillerson about his ties with russia. a former ceo of exxon and oversaw the company's

relationship with russia. >> i serve no one's interest but the american people in advancing our own national security. rex tillerson is expected to be confirmed as secretary of state. day two for attorney general nominee jeff sessions and a senator from new jersey took an unusual step at today's proceeding. >> the next attorney general must bring hope and healing to this country. this demands a more courageous empathy than senator sessions' record demonstrates. >> cory booker testified against sessions this afternoon. he is the first sitting senator to testify against a fellow sitting senator for cabinet positions. sessions come under fire for his controversial positions on civil rights and criminal justice reform. a potential trump appointment reignited a debate

over childhood vaccinations and autism. doctors said bringing this issue up again could do real harm to public health. >> the vaccines are safe. >> reporter: doctors in our area are unwavering. >> the vaccines don't cause autism. >> reporter: now health care professionals fear the science could be pushed aside after robert kennedy junior, a vocal anti-vaccination activist is being considered by trump to chair a commission on vaccine safety. >> trump has some doubt. >> reporter: a spokesperson for mr. trump tells us the president-elect is merely exploring the possibility of a committee. all though trump has not shied from voicing his doubts about vaccinations. >> we're worried about anybody saying that vaxs are not important to get. we're confident that the science is on our side. >> reporter: even groups like autism speaks, which advocates for people with a communication

disorder agree. staying vaccines do not cause autism. parents like this have sided with science over the president-elect's concerns. >> i'm pretty sure he hasn't gone to medical school. >> she said she has every intention of having her 10-day-old son immunized. this doctor said those who choose not to vaccinate are putting their children and others at risk. >> their child could suffer severe and occasionally fatal. >> reporter: vaccines are safe, effective, and save lives. doctors say parents who are confused about their safety should talk to their doctor. first alert weather. it looks like the warmer temperatures are bringing everyone outside today. nbc 10 in camden county where these ducks spent a relaxing afternoon at cooper river park. there's rain that could fall shortly. >> nbc 10 first alert meteorologist crystal clie joins us when it will get to your

neighborhood. >> yeah. it's almost here. we're looking at radar and satellite a wider view. you can see where it's tracking. it's almost to us. we see it to the south of pennsylvania. from ground observations. so the light green you see it almost in burkes county. it's not making it to the ground yet. the deeper green cutting through parts of maryland that's making it to the ground. neighborhood by neighborhood it will time out by 7:00 to 8:00 spreading across the board. as you can tell it's coming from the southwest but spread along to the northeast. we'll get to the hour-by-hour in a minute. i want to show a look at radar. as expected we saws temperatures rise in the 40s and 50s. philadelphia today officially up to 54 degrees. here is the hour-by-hour forecast.

as we go through your temperatures here. right now looking at potential for the 40s. but then we start to see it drop a tad into the evening and the rain starts to move in. the good news is even areas like allentown, mount pocono above freezing in the upper 30s as it moves through. we're talking rain and only rain. and even yesterday we did see rain but it turned into ice in some spots by this morning. that was because the ground was cold. now the ground had the whole day to warm up. we don't have the concern overnight tonight. and the rain continues to spread. from 8:00 to 9:00 now through new jersey, portions of delaware, as well. notice the temperatures really don't fluctuate. they stay in the low 40s. notice the yellows. that indicates some pockets of heavier rain certainly possible. obviously this is past the rush we're seeing now. roadways won't be a big concern. if you have driving to do later this evening run into that. through 11:30 and starting to move out. temperatures are starting to boost up. because we're going to continue

to see this rise right into your thursday. so we go overnight and into thursday morning. your morning rush. the rain is out. roadways may have some puddles on them. temperatures already in the 50s in some spots. this is going to be a nice thursday ahead of us. here is a look at the high temperatures by tomorrow afternoon. it will be the gusty at times 10 to 20 miles per hour. gusts could be 25 to 30 miles per hour. 65 in fair mount for the afternoon high and 62. and even mid 50s for us in parts leaf lehigh valley and burkes county. it's a nice forecast we're looking at here. in new jersey robinsville at 60 degrees. and 60s for long port. over to delaware. newark at 65. and dover at 64 degrees. very nice temperatures for us your thursday. that's not afternoon. it will not stick around for long so we go up the roller coaster and back down it friday. in fact, friday morning temperatures will be warmer than friday afternoon temperatures. as they continue to fall.

so about 45 in philadelphia. 42 for the suburbs. notice we get into saturday then we really take the plunge. now we're talking temperatures around or a little below freezing for us. 31 in the suburbs. south jersey at 33 as a result, the next system passes we're looking at potential for some snow to move through. especially philadelphia through south jersey. the shore, delaware points a rain/snow mix is possible. we go into sunday. temperatures will start to climb a tad. it's bringing us back to more average conditions for this time of year. 41 for your sunday in philadelphia. 42 at the jersey shore. and that's the same for delaware. we're dry by your sunday. looking at better conditions as we go into your sunday. chances of snow on saturday. don't be too concerned here. what we're looking at while we're colder is mostly light snow. low accumulations at this point. then the cloudy conditions continuing into the next workweek. temperatures pick up and the next round of rain moves through. >> crystal klei, thank you. a follow up on the water

main break caused a street to collapse on sunday. remember the video here? the street opened up and swallowed two cars! three days later, some people still don't have gas or water. the sewer line, water main, and the road have to be fixed before gas can be restored. philadelphia water department is asking residents to be patient. windsor town stateship is closing the facility for intellectual disabilities. it has 80 residents. at one point, it had more than ten times that number. the state closing a section of the facility at norristown state hospital. residents will instead be cared for in their homes. and with community-based services. delaware lawmakers are saying no to higher salaries. a state group recommended higher salaries for lawers, judges, and other high-ranking state officials, but members of general assembly say the raises shouldn't happen while the state has a budget shortfall.

right now at 5:00. tracking rain. we've been following the nbc 10 d radar. >> it's the second night in a row we're seeing rain. how long will it stick around? crystal klei is tracking all the details for your neighborhood. crystal klei? >> actually the timing has been pretty good last night and tonight. because we're going to be seeing most out by the morning rush tomorrow. take a look at cape may. a live camera here. you can see the roadway already wet. they've had a lot of snow that had melt off and the rain move through this morning. sticking around. a lot of moisture in the air. that means that roadways will be wet but not icy. temperatures today really boosted up. it means that even spots that did see icy conditions this morning will not have that concern tomorrow morning. here is the radar and satellite view. we're looking nice and tight in our area this is not making to the ground yet.

it will be here soon. the deeper green is heading our way. 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. when the rain will move in. then spread across the board through the nighttime hours. we pull it out and you can see it's pretty big area of rain that is going to be moving past us. and you can also see the yellow and oranges showing up. that indicates pockets of heavier rain. we're going have that potential overnight, as well. don't be surprised by puddles by tomorrow morning on the roadways exchanging it out for the snow we saw the last few days. here are temperatures now. what a warm up for we have seen. promised we're 41 in allentown. lancaster city at 46. philadelphia 50 degrees currently. and millville at 47 degrees. it may slip a couple of degrees the next few hours. coming up we'll talk more about that warm up and a closer look at the hour-by-hour potential for rain in your neighborhood. >> looking forward to it. president-elect trump is

10 news at 6:00. a lehigh county nurse is accused of fondling a patient and exposing himself to her. investigators say john made sexual comments to the victim in the radiology department at saint luke's university hospital. the victim tells police he assaulted her in a private examination room. today brought a first for the city of philadelphia. a new task force charged with finding ways to fight opioid abuse held its initial meeting. mayor jim kinne along with police, doctors, and addiction experts were there. they'll figure out a road map for attacking the city's heroin problem. nbc 10 is reporting on the opioid crisis prompted a public decisi discussion on the issue. it lead advocates for the city to take action. now the city has. you can watch our special report "generation addicted" now on nbc 10.com.

montgomery county is stepping up the fight against the heroin crisis. county officials will be at markets to fill a prescription for are innar can. it's available to anyone at pennsylvania pharmacies due to the standing order recent signed. after eight years in office, governor jack markell his field speech. dover has a new interim police chief. deputy chief is in charge of day-to-day operations. he's running the office now as current chief prepares to retire. he'll serve in that role while the selection committee finds a permanent replacement. police are supposed to serve and protect. it doesn't usually happen in this way. how a police officer helped pull off a liver transplant here in

an update on a pregnant woman in florida diagnosed with the zika virus last july. she was the first person to contract the disease within the u.s. she has since given birth and the baby appears healthy. this is picture of the unnamed woman from when she was about 10 weeks pregnant. she had a rash all over her body, fever, sore throat, and joint pain. the zika virus is known to cause severe birth defects. problems in a giant washing machine recall. in november samsung recalled about 3 million of the top-loading washing machines for presenting risk of injury. some consumers are saying the company isn't doing enough to help them.

>> about clouds producing some rain. let's get the details on the wet weather hitting our tonight. here is first alert meteorologist crystal klei. >> it's almost here. we're looking a the rain very close to us now. it's timing out pretty close to what we expected. 6:00 to 7:00 is when it should make the way through. we see some of the light green over delaware. not getting ground reports yet. but we know the ground reports baltimore and right on the border between maryland and pennsylvania. so it's almost here. notice the track. moving from the southwest to the northeast. so chester county, burkes county, first in line for the rain. but this will be spreading and even dropping south a tad. that means most of our region going to see a good soaking as we go through the night with the well yellow on the board indicating the more heavy and steady rain falling. take a look at the neighborhood temperatures where this morning we had icing problems. because, well, the temperatures were actually above freezing air temperatures. the ground was still below freezing. once the rain moved out early in the morning, we saw ice left behind. that will not be the case for us

tonight because the ground has been able to warm up through the day. at 42 now in lees port. redding at 44 degrees. and fleetwood 43. we shift to the lehigh valley. walnut 38. the day allowed for the temperatures to warm up the ground enough that icing is not a concern. we'll be seeing rain. philadelphia neighborhoods just the same. low 50s current in society hills, center city. the airport at 50 degrees. fox chase at 52 degrees. really nice warm up considering not too long ago we were talking single digit temperatures and afternoon highs 20s. not going to be talking that for at least a few more days. then next cool down happens. let's look at the hour-by-hour forecast. here are the clouds we're dealing with now. here is the rain coming in. by 7:30 it's spread throughout our suburbs through the lehigh valley and burkes county. and into new castle county. almost to philadelphia here.

throughout the rest of your night now we've got spread through philadelphia, new jersey the same. that's at 9:30. the yellow indicating some periods of heavier rain that some of us will see not the entire night but pockets of heavier rain. and then it will start to off as we pass the 10:00 p.m. hour. by midnight to 1:00 a.m. seeing more scattered showers mostly north of philadelphia. that will move out 1 to 2:00 a.m. by tomorrow morning, your morning drive wet roads puddles possibly but not dealing with rain by tomorrow. so you don't need to worry about the umbrella we dry out and we'll see some sun as we go throughout your thursday. here is the three day outlook neighborhood by neighborhood. the last few days we've been saying look at the temperature rise. now we have to say look at it fall over the next few days. 65 for your thursday. drops 47 early on but 45 by the afternoon for your friday. 33 only the high by saturday. and that's right you see a snow flake by saturday. next system will produce snow for some of the us.

in the suburbs 60s down to 42. 31 by saturday and about 32 by saturday in the lehigh valley. same situation new jersey and the shore. low 60s to about upper 40s near 50s. and then the 30s by saturday. rain/snow mix, though, for parts of new jersey and delaware are possible. let's track that out. now we're looking at an hour-by-hour forecast. this is just one model. this is still a few days out. we'll -- there'll be adjustments. starts saturday afternoon by 2:00. watch as we put in motion. watch the green spreading across the board. we'll have warmer air push in from the south but a cold front bringing cold air from the north. so this is going to be a race between the warmer and colder air. some of us seeing snow. some seeing sleet or freezing rain. and the mix, as we drop farther south. that's at 1:00 a.m. it should start to move out as we get into the early morning hours of your sunday. so there's your weekend forecast. we're at 41 by sunday afternoon. and we're dry.

we begin with first alert weather. because rain is moving into chester, delaware, new castle counties now. you're looking at live at conditions in wilmington. it looks quiet out there but rain moving into the area. there it is on alert radar showing the wide spread system that will drench our region. >> the rain could be heavy at times. we are timing things out with a first alert neighborhood forecast. >> that's right. tracking satellite radar image now. the are thick and soupy. you can see the direction of the rain showers moving in from the southwest to the associated with massive warm front. we have warmer air behind it. i think we'll see areas of patchy fog later tonight through the overnight hours. keep in mind. otherwise locally here notice for the most part we're dry. some reports of light drizzle

and wet roads now. burkes county, chester county will be the first to see the rain showers and everybody else will see them wide spread. time it out hour-by-hour at 6:00 p.m. you can see by 7:00 we're starting to see the green on the screen. all that moving from the southwest to the northeast. notice we're seeing a couple of pockets of yellow here telling us we have heavier downpours moving across the region. 9:30 p.m. philadelphia. you'll see heavier pockets of downpours. keep in mind it will not be a huge issue, of course. you have some snow melting. so it might -- you might see localize ponding. you may encounter areas of patchy fog. otherwise weather stories include tracking wide spread rain and some patchy fog. of course, hour hour for you. and we're also tracking clearing by early tomorrow morning. above-average high temperatures. it looks like 60s and by the weekend a big drop for temperatures. it looks like some snow possibly saturday into sunday. more details c
