>> and i'm jacqueline london. the president-elect did not answer questions for the past six months in this kind of setting. today members of the media had plenty to ask him. donald trump addresses a report that the russian government may have gathered compromising personal and financial information about him. >> i read the information outside of that meet iing it's fake news, phony stuff. it didn't happen. it was a group of opponents that got together, sick people, and they put that crap together. >> even calling out the organizations who carried it. >> you are fake news. >> what he says is possible, russian hacking. >> as far as hacking, i think it was russia but i think we also get hacked by other countries about people. >> trump weighed in on his relationship with vladimir putin. >> if putin likes donald trump, guess what, folks? that's called an asset not a liability. >> the president-elect said one of his first priorities as

president, building a wall on the u.s./mexican border. >> i don't feel like waiting a year or year and a half. we'll start building. >> donald trump's tax attorney pressed a mountain of documents outlining how trump is removing himself from conflicts of interest from his billion-dollar business. trump emphasized his sons will take over. >> if they do a bad job i'll say "you're fired." >> donald trump also reiterated today he would not release his tax returns. he announced he nominated a veterans affairs secretary from philadelphia. he does not have military experience. nbc 10 sits down with his parents for an inside look at why the local doctor wants to lead the v.a. >> new details on the airport shooting in ft. lauderdale. one of the people killed is from dover. 69-year-old mary louise amzabell grew up in ohio but moved to delaware. she was in baggage claims when esteban santiago killed five

people and injured six others. he remains behind bars tonight. now to first alert weather. light rain falling a few hours a ago. >> erika martinez tracking the radar. will it be dry in the morning? >> we are tracking a dryup but we could see showers tomorrow. we'll start at 11:00 p.m. we are seeing heavier pockets for parts of lehigh valley, otherwise salem county, cumberland county, newcastle and kent counties, we get this just after midnight. the tail end of those rain showers continue to work their way northeast wards. tomorrow morning 3:00 a.m., a clearing but more rain showers move in by about 4:00, 5:00 a.m. by 9:00 a.m. we start to see more passing showers move in from west to east, not totally dry and it looks like we will see rain linger until about noon tomorrow. now the good news is everything will clear for the second half of your day.

it won't be a wash but we will see rain in the forecast. another story i'm tracking would be the widespread fog right now. not terribly dense, however. i will give you visibility forecasts the next time we meet up. meantime, back to you. a hit-and-run crash in darby borough sent a person to the hospital tonight. nbc 10 here on the scene at the corner of main and summit streets. police tell us the driver hit someone who was walking then sped off. no word yet how serious that person's injuries are. new at 11:00, a southwest philadelphia deli owner talks about getting beat up by a customer over a cheese steak. now this video may be hard to watch but the owner of the store on elwood avenue says the man wanted a discount. >> as nbc 10's keith jones reports, she want this is guy off the streets. >> picture this -- it was daylight. the scene, daylight breakfast and more. for the 60-year-old woman who owns this place, it was a normal day until two guys walked

inside. >> i never thought about he's going to hit my face. >> a 60-year-old afraid to show her face because of this guy. he orders a cheese steak but didn't like the price. >> he kept going on and on. i said "are you stupid?" he said "say it one more time." i said "you were stupid." >> reporter: he takes his juice and squirts it over the counter. what happens next the owner will never forget. >> i never bother nobody. >> reporter: the guy socks her in the face sending her flying backwards. she somehow returns to her feet, the guy continues to beat her mercilessly. we showed this video to people across the 7,000 block of elm wood street. >> craziness. recklessness. >> reporter: con law goes to the woman's store every morning. he said she's nice. >> it was a bad move coming behind the counter and even trying to go at the individual but that's disrespectful. >> reporter: and illegal. police are looking for these two men, one of whom punched a 60-year-old woman relentlessly. >> i never thought about most customers around here are very

nice, very nice. i know most of the people. >> reporter: in southwest philadelphia, keith jones, nbc 10 news. we have new surveillance video tonight of a suspected carjacker in action. take a look, you'll see him behind the italian kitchen restaurant in overbrook. police say he tried to steal the van on the right to no avail. he then set his sights on a white car that pulled into the alley but failed there as well. restaurant workers chased him away with a hammer and moments later police say the suspect tried to steal that septa service truck. that's when the owner of the white car, also a licensed gun owner, jumped into action with two nearby teenagers. >> the man with the gun was yelling to stop him, tackle him since i think he tried to break into his car so i ended up just tackling him, bringing him to the ground. >> joe kelly and his brother helped take down the suspect. during the struggle the car owner shot the suspect in the leg and before this unfolded police tell us the suspect crashed his car into several other cars at 63rd and woodbine.

a jersey shore police officer faces criminal charges tonight in one of at least four incidents he's accused of firing his gun during a fight with a girlfriend. nbc 10's drew smith walks us through this case and looks into that officer's status with the police department. >> reporter: it's been 13 months since this officer was first arrested and tonight we found out he is suspended without pay. we did talk to the mayor but this sergeant's future with the department is still unclear. there was no answer at samuel clerico's home tonight as prosecutors's move the case against the now indicted police department forward. he's seen in these video. >> mr. claierico is a friend of mine. he's none of your businesses. >> reporter: neighbors say he's a great guy but the prosecutor is telling a different story.

starting in december, 2015 at a hotel where he's accused of illegally using his badge to get into a woman's hotel room. >> crossing the line. >> reporter: the next day he was arrested in egg harbor township where he lives for firing his police gun during an argument with that same woman. >> he shouldn't be a policeman then. >> reporter: days later arrested again for retaliation against another policeman, a witness in the case. the people who clerico is supposed to protect weren't happy to hear nine months later he'd been in handcuffs again for assault on his girlfriend during demands she recant earlier statements. >> ordering people around and stuff. i mean, they have an attitude probl problem. >> reporter: we weren't able to reach the police chief for specifics on the suspension, when it began and why the case moved so slowly. the mayor told me on the phone he didn't know much about it but says he has full confidence in the department. these charges carry a stiff penalty. he faces up to 10 years in

prison. in summers's point, drew smith. nbc 10 news. accusations against a lehigh county nurse. investigators say he fondled a patient and exposed himself to her in a private exam room at st. luke's university hospital in bethlehem. he is charged now with indecent assault. he's also accused of making sexual comments to the victim. to fishtown where a burst water main is still causing problems for residents. video on the left of your screen was taken earlier today along boston street. you can see the massive hole that still exists as crews work to repair water and gas lines. on the right of your screen is what it looked like sunday when the main burst. the water department says work could last for several more days. the coast guard trying to clean up a fuel spill in the delaware river. sky force 10 over the scene. a has hazmat there is well. a potential delay to reopen

the former revel casino. they were set to hold a hearing on whether the owner needs a gaming license but the hearing was put on hold because of a last-minute change to a lease agreement. straub says he still hopes the property, now known as ten, will reopen next month. in montgomery county, thieves are breaking into homes while families inside are sleeping. police in lower gwinnett township say early sunday morning thieves broke into two homes there. the thieves making off with valuables and snatched car keys in plain view. police say the thieves stole high-end cars out of the homeowners' garages. next on nbc 10 news at 11:00, ready for washington. local horses ready to strut their stuff. stocks slide. the president-elect's own words sent some industries tumbling. how some local companies were affected. sixers fans are not used to seeing this. the shot that had players and fans celebrating. and while i'm tracking rain

rehearsals are in full swing from the horsemen there are from the first troop's philadelphia city cavalry. nbc 10 at valley forge military academy tonight. the group will escort president-elect trump in the inaugural parade next week. this will be the fifth inauguration parade appearance for the historic cavalry unit. the veterans affairs department has been under scrutiny for years, veterans complaining about long wait times to get tweeted. tonight president-elect trump picked a doctor from philadelphia to lead the v.a. nbc 10's randy gyllenhaal spoke with dr. david shulkin's parents. and randy you have veterans responding to the fact he has no military experience. >> reporter: veterans tell me they remain cautiously optimistic.

shulkin's family outside philadelphia says this is a homecoming for him. he interned at the v.a. during medical school during the vietnam war era. that's when he gained an appreciation for helping veterans but he has no military experience, the first in this department that will face serious challenges in the years ahead. at a v.a. town hall tonight, local vets met with v.a. staff asking about long wait times and paperwork. >> i want to see change. real change, not rhetoric. >> i appointed today -- >> reporter: and today big change at the top. donald trump picking david shulkin to lead the v.a., a rare holdover from the obama white house. >> i'll tell you about david, he's fantastic. >> this is david. >> reporter: shulkin is a philadelphia native. he grew up here. >> he, david. >> reporter: today his parents got the news, chatting with their son on the phone. >> he's never been more excited

in his life. and he's been in big places. >> reporter: shulkin is a medical doctor holding top positions at philly hospitals like penn, drexel and temple but decided to leave the private sector to help the v.a. during a very difficult time. >> when he sees pain he wants to be right there and be part of the healing process. >> reporter: he'll face complaints about slow wait times and an alarming increase in suicides. he also has no military background. >> a veteran might have more insight on veteran affairs but i do not, as long as what has happened in the past does not continue to happen. >> somebody from the outside looking in might see something that a veteran might not. i think it's a good idea. >> reporter: the iraq and afghanistan veterans of america released a statement saying they are optimistic but their members would have preferred a veteran. meantime, other veterans groups are saying they do have some

concerns that he may lead efforts to privatize some of the v.a.. that's something donald trump has mentioned on the campaign trail. live in university city, randy gyllenhaal, nbc 10 news. the stock market is always volatile, but when president-elect trump mentions a company, stocks can tumble. lockheed martin and local pharmaceutical companies took direct hits today. today donald trump said big pharmaceutical companies are getting away with murder in what they charge for drugs. several local drug companies took a big hit and the president-elect also criticized the cost of lockheed martin's f-35 during today's news conference. shares of the defense contractor fell more than 1% after the comments. lockheed shares also dropped back in december when donald trump put the company in his cross hairs on twitter. to an unprecedented plea today. new jersey senator cory booker became the first senator to testify against the colleague's nomination. the democrat calling senator jeff sessions of alabama unfit

to serve as attorney general. >> the next attorney general must bring hope and healing to this country. this demands a more courageous empathy than senator sessions' record demonstrates. >> senator sessions has strongly denied hints of a racist past. the senate will likely vote next month whether to confirm sessions as the next attorney general. floodwaters and mudslides washed away this road in northern california. the department of public works says other roads near this area are closed indefinitely. look at that gaping hole. officials say the combination of heavy rain, overflowing creeks, blocked drainage inlets and broken levees caused the flooding. an icy road led to this school bus accident in newark this morning. sky force 10 was over windsor drive at country club drive. police say this bus fish tailed after it hit and ice patch and crashed into a tree. three students and the driver

went to a hospital to be checked out. we should haven't to worry about icy spots in the morning. >> no, erika martinez here with her forecast. erika? we have warmer temperatures on the way but there are two stories i'm tracking for you. the first would be those rain showers, i'll get to that in one moment but the second, the fog, we are seeing some areas of patchy fog across the area. v visibility is poor. allentown five miles visibility, coatesville four mile visibility along with blue bell, six for northeast philly. 10 for dover. notice the wind speeds are still light eight for philadelphia, trenton seven mile per hour wind speeds. if you look at the bottom of your screen you will see your local neighborhood forecast. i want to show you the rain moving from southwest to

northeast. heavier pockets around philadelphia, otherwise everything is clearing towards the northeast. i say after midnight. but we won't be done because by about 4:00, 5:00 a.m. we get another round of rain showers moving there from west to east and parts of the lehigh valley. burlington county may see rain showers by 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. seeing more rain showers moving from west to east heavier pockets around philadelphia. 11:30 a.m. everything clears out. it won't be a washout for your thursday however some rain so it won't be a completely dry day. otherwise, current temperatures mainly in the 40s. philadelphia 46 degrees, allentown 46, mount holly 47. for you in byland, 48 degrees, the normal high is 40 and today we topped out at 54 degrees. hour-by-hour forecast tells a great story about this major warmup in the works by tomorrow morning. at 5:00 a.m. you will need a light jacket maybe, we'll see 50 degrees in philadelphia, doylestown 50 for you, allentown

science center at bucks county community college. the school will cut the ribbon on the facility tomorrow at its campus in newtown. the center has 11 science labs and a computer lab. and right here you're looking at some of the eight young winners of the comcast sports net shining star award tonight. look at them. they look sharp. players from the eagles, the phillies, flyers, 76ers and the union presented the awards in center city. each child was recognized for overcoming health challenges at birth. nbc 10 is a proud sponsor of this event which benefits the march of dimes. great cause there, john clark. >> i was there tonight, the kids are inspiring and how about p.j. mcconnell? he did something tonight he has never done in his life. what a wild finish tonight here at the wells fargo center. we'll show you why the sixers were jumping all over each other. that's next.

agent. the sixers tried them out on their summer league team, he hits a game winning shot for the first time in his life. he really can't remember ever hitting one at any level. >> there was one in grade school i can't remember but i know there wasn't one in high school and none in college, either. just -- i can't even think of a word for it. it feels really good. feels even better to get a win even though we played pretty badly. >> sixers are having a lot of fun. and what a picture the sixers captured celebrating. look at joelle with his hands around t.j.'s neck. he tweeted out the pic and i asked t.j. in the locker room what was happening in this picture. >> you talking about this one? >> yeah. >> it looks like he was saying "you better have made that shot." and i was scared when he was screaming in my face.
