involving sexual abuse. randy gyllenhaal is live outside pen ridge high school. what have you been able to figure out about the assignment that caused such outrage? >> reporter: well, at first glance the questions do seem salacious. i'll show you what was posted online that parents got wind of. questions about sexual abuse as well as some about prostitution. it's important to add context. the questions were referring to the autobiography of maya angelou, a civil rights poet and a activists. some students say her story should not be censored. this young woman was assigned that work sheet, a math assignment based around the life of maya angelou. >> other questions were born she was born in this place, this many years old. >> reporter: two questions on the work sheet causing anger from some parents, one asks about angelou suffering from

sexual abuse. another asking about her time working as a prostitute to support her young child. >> we have a lot of sad stuff in our curriculum. it's not a big deal to me. because we've read so much about it. it's realistic that way. >> reporter: a few students we spoke with say angelou's story is important. her autobiography is part of the curriculum here. other schools have tried to ban that book. >> there is worse things said in school. kids deserve to know what's happening. >> reporter: on social media, outrage from some parents, so much the district issued an apology saying more context should have been given to students. those test questions are not part of the official curriculum. the school says a teacher downloaded the worksheet from an online porter where teachers share materials. the same work sheet caused similar controversy at a school in florida. >> people get too politically correct. that's what i think. kids have to know what's going

on out there today. >> reporter: as for why those questions were on a math test. it's part of cross curriculum teaching to get students thinking. live in bucks county. >> definitely got people talking. a car crash, a police pursuit and an escape by a suspect who was already in handcuffed. this all unfolded this morning on roosevelt boulevard. this is a suspect right here after he was arrested a second time. tonight we're learning more about who he is. nbc 10's aundrea cline-thomas joining us live outside the 15th district. what did the suspect tell police? >> reporter: well, while handcuffed and being put inside the police car, that suspect allegedly told them that he could not go back to jail. that's exactly where he finds himself tonight. police say this 26-year-old was driving a black cadillac, police initially tried to stop for

erratic driving on roosevelt boulevard before 5:00 this morning. but instead of stopping, he allegedly hit the police cruiser and kept going. eventually stopping after hitting two other cars. including an off duty state trooper's personal vehicle. >> i saw what appeared to be a male running across the street with a white shirt. >> the off duty trooper helped officers arrest the 26-year-old. he was placed inside the cruiser. he managed to break the door and escape. >> that's amazing he was able to kick himself out of a police car and take off on them like that. that's a little wild. >> reporter: hours later officersthr officers tracked down the man where he was arrested again. tonight he remains in custody. former police officer jose figueroa lives along roosevelt boulevard and watched the chaos unfold. he says the escape is not uncommon. >> for our safety and theirs,

and put them in the back of the car. handcuff them there. that's the proper way. i mean, the officer did it by the book. >> reporter: there were two other people in the car with that suspect, though. at this point though it doesn't appear they'll be facing charges. reporting live aundrea cline-thomas nbc 10 news. the philadelphia police department is going to focus on its relationship with the community. the department of justice released a new report today. it's a follow up to an initial assessment from march 2015. that assessment gave the department recommendations focused on deadly force, specifically training, policy and practices. the department has put into place 90% of the changes that were recommended. a search for a missing boater continues this evening at the jersey shore. nbc 10 was first on the scene this morning. as crews combed the waters of tuckerton bay. the missing man, identified by family members as chris hugg called a relative about 7:30

last night saying his boat ran aground and that he did not help. the boat was found this morning with no sign of hugg. >> i helped him load up and watched him cruise out of the creek. that's the last thing i heard. hard to believe. i hope they find him alive. >> friends tell us hugg went out on the bay to go clamming, taking advantage of yesterday's mild weather. the highest ranking catholic church official convicted in the sexual abuse scandal returned to court today to get his charges thrown out. today lawyers for monsignor william lynn accused prosecutors of hiding information about the victim in the case. prosecutors say they turned over all documents. lynn was convicted of endangerment charges in 2012. the judge will make a decision in march whether to clear the charges or set a new trial. lynn already served 33 months in prison. a data breach in delaware has jeopardized the personal information of 19,000 people.

the breach involved two subcontractors of highmark blue cross blue shield of delaware. many of those impacted work for wilmington university, wsfs bank. newcastle county and other organizations from 2004 to 2008. check with your payroll office to see if your company is affected. a south jersey financial avisor is accused of stealing from a client. he was arrested today. prosecutors say murphy was supposed to invest the clients' money but instead he's accused offend stealing it to pay expenses. new details in the investigation into the deaths of a prominent new jersey couple this evening. the medical examer has changed the death certificate of john sheridan to list his manner of death as undetermined. it had been listed as suicide. prosecutors originally said the ceo killed himself and his wife. they were found after a fire

inside their somerset county home in 2014. the sheridan family petitioned to have the suicide ruling changed. lehigh valley, whilehall township will pay money to a real estate developer to settle a discrimination accusations. federal officials announced the dpree agreement today. the count down is seven days until the presidential inauguration. toed the president elect said he's not concerned some of his cabinet picks have contradicted him during their confirmation hearings. al. >> we want them to be themselves and i told them be yourself and say what you want to say. don't worry about me. >> the president elect also says efforts to repeal and replace obamacare are going great. congress will now begin hearings

the degre 24 degrees colder in mount holly. 21 degrees colder in philadelphia. as we go through the night tonight it will feel like it's in the 20s. the official high today, 61 degrees. of course that occurred around 1:00 in the morning. tomorrow it will feel mostly like the upper 20s to around 30 degrees. and we're going to be seeing those temperatures continue to go down. we've got a few returns on the radar down in maryland now. that's not reaching the ground. this stuff back to the west is. you can see it's not a big organized storm here. and there are other reasons for limited problems being expected tomorrow. the roads are warm from the 60s yesterday and 50s and 40s today. that will help. the timing, the snow falling during the daytime hours, especially during the midday and afternoon. that helps it melt.

and the temperatures near about 32 degrees, that helps melting as well. take a look at this, hour by hour as we go through the morning and into the midday hours. temperatures right near the freezing point. and where the smonow may be the heaviest, the temperature is actually the highest. it has the best chance of melting on the roads. could create a coating on grassy surfaces, sure. later in the afternoon, the thing is already starting to break apart. by tomorrow night, it's gone. here's one computer model showing an inch or so, west chester, wilmington down to dover. heavier snow back toward maryland. washington, d.c. is going to get more snow than we will. so high temperature 37 fair mount perhaps before the snow starts that will help it melt. a little bit of light no, lehigh valley, berks county i'm not even putting it down. nothing more than a few flurries
