former first lady barbara bush are both in the hospital. he has phenomena and in the icu. barba barbara bush was admitted for fatigue. president obama offered prayers today. >> they have dedicated their lives to this country, they have been a constant source of friendship and support and good counsel for michelle and me over the years. >> earlier president obama talked about his legacy and the new administration and what would be his last news conference as president. he wrapped up answering questions a short time ago. >> george spencer is live in the breaking news center. >> the president spoke for about an hour this afternoon answering those questions, and he told reporters he has cordial talks with president-elect donald trump. obama said the president-elect should move forward with his own vision and values. the current president does not

expect an enormous overlap. obama also talked about the middle east. he said a peaceful moment in the mideast may be passing. and the president talked about why he commuted the sentence of chelsea manning yesterday. he said, quote, "she served a tough prison sentence and justice has been served." obama said commuting her sentence should not make people think they won't face for leaking classified documents. manning served seven of her 35 years sentenced. >> took responsibility for her crime. that the sentence that she received was very disproportional -- relative to what others had received. >> miss man handgun been known as bradley manning when the former army intelligence analyst gave documents to the wikileaks website.

and among all the other big topics that president drew special attention to lgbt rights. obama said he could not be prouder of the progress that has been made over the past decade. reporting live in the breaking news center. george spencer nbc 10 news. patco is apologizing to riders this week as maintenance issues caused delays and headaches during rush hour. patco crews are working to fix dozens of electric motors. the light, fluffy, dusty snow was sucked into the motors eventually melting and causing them to go haywire. rush hour commuters are facing long wait times and trains passing by them. >> you miss three trains at a time. it's crazy. >> i'm very sorry for the disruption. i'm very sorry for the inconvenience. >> patkro crews are on a 12-hour

around the clock shift to fix the issues. things should be back to normal in a couple of weeks. hasn't felt for january for a few days. it's tough to figure out what to wear. on villanova we saw everything from long sleeves to winter gear. their basketball team is hot. live look at cape may. certainly not beach weather. you have to admit we've been lucky so far this winter. >> glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here. we're in store for a warm up. >> we have relatively mild temperatures even with the clouds around. the fog is gone. we can barely see on 95 last night and everything is fine. northwest winds and 47 in philadelphia. 46 in atlantic city, 49 in vineland. we have gotten in the 50s in wilmington and dover. so that's way above average. the average high temperature for this time of year is only 40.

so today it's 48. tomorrow 54 with sunshine, and even friday and saturday, at least 10 degrees above normal. now tonight it's not going to be all that cold. it's going to be dry. we're not going to be seeing fog in the morning. and so we have a real nice day on the way coming tomorrow. but we've got some changes coming. we've got some rain friday and we have a big storm that will affect us by the end of the weekend. we'll get into that coming up in a few minutes. >> glenn, thank you. on to philadelphia police who are taking a first of its kind step to stop sex trafficking. a problem more common in our area than you may realize. denise? >> reporter: a first-of-its-kind. addressing problems in every neighborhood including here and second and chestnut.

people being bought and sold through force or coerce. human trafficking is happening around us. it's allowed to throufleur rich through silence. >> it's a great day we have this kind of collaboration. >> reporter: the feds, philadelphia police, along with social service agencies are joining together to bring attention to the problem, help victims, and prosecute traffickers. >> young people and putting them out there and subjecting them to things that is beyond comprehension. >> reporter: the task force built upon the work being done by groups like the salvation army. we walked through the new day dropping center which provides resources for up to 50 women a day. a place sex trafficking victims can turn to on kensington avenue. >> they can come back and get food or clothing or toilet i ares. >> reporter: jamie is the director of antitrafficking for

the salvation army. >> our staff hear stories every day about women being raped, women being threatened at knife point. >> reporter: the salvation army will be the leading nonprofit group with a caseworker helping victims alongside investigators at philadelphia police and special victims unit. police, prosecutors, the fbi, and victims groups united in the fight against human trafficking. the task force is getting help through a 1.3 million grant over the next several years. the problem is putting our children at risk. coming up at 5:00 how you can protect your children from sex traffickers. reporting live in old city. nbc 10 news. we have new details today in the deadly shooting of a bar manager in germantown. a security guard is now charged with murder. it happened monday night inside sharon's little spot bar. edward morgan got in an argument with christopher johnson and shot him. anti-violence group in philadelphia say enough is

enough. >> they're calling on february to be peace month. no shootings for an entire month and resolve your arguments without gunfire. >> nobody wants it. >> so far this year there have been 16 murders in philadelphia. that's up about 37% from this time a year ago. temple university is naming the school of media to honor lou kline. the building will be dedicated this spring. kline started teaching at temple in 1952. he served as executive producer for "american bandstand." helped launch the careers of matt lauer. lgbtq leaders launched the creating change conference today. 4,000 are expected to attend the five-day event. it's to help secure freedom, justice, and equality for the

lgbtq community. federal prosecutors say the corruption convictions of two former aids to new jersey governor chris christie should stand. they were responding to motions by brigitte ann kelley and bill barone any. they want their convictions thrown out. kelley and baa ronnie argue that the government didn't prove the traffic jams were in retaliation against a democratic mayor who didn't endorse christie in 2014. prosecutors said they're not required to prove motive. christie was never charged. . >> towns in new jersey must provide affordable housing. the state is not carrying out the fair housing act. towns have been required to provide a fair share of housing for low and moderate-income residents based on a ruling dating back 30 years. sky force 10 over a fire at a recycling plant. it started at 1:00 on 37th street. smoke was so thick people in

philly could see it. no one was hurt. the man accused of shooting a police officer was formally arranged on attempted murder charges today. prosecutors say dontae island shot officer christopher doorman seven times last june while the officer was responding to reports of illegal drug activity. the officer testified he was punched in the head when he was asked to pat him down and island starting firing. he was released from the hospital days after shooting. he returned to duty in september. new video of the accused of the man accused of killing an orlando police officer and his pregnant ex-girlfriend. police arrested 41-year-old markeith boyd last night after a week long manhunt. lloyd is accused of shooting both women in january. police caught him in an abandoned house. he was wearing body armor and armed with two guns. to the transition to trump. the president-elect met with one of the judges on his short list

for potential supreme court nominees. judge william pryor works at the u.s. court of appeals in alabama. trump is expected to announce his choice for the position in less than two weeks. it was a busy day on capitol hill where a number of confirmation hearings were underway with health care coverage for millions at people at stake representative tom price faced tough questions today. he's being considered for the job of u.s. health secretary. the they questioned nikki haley today. trump's pick to become the u.s. ambassador to the united nations. she supported moving to the embassy to israel. it would be controversial in the middle east. she also said she trusts russia right now, but said she's against lifting the sanctions against them. billionaire investor wilbur ross is echoing trump's tough talk about trade with china. ross was picked to lead the commerce department during his

confirmation hearing today ross said that countries who resort to malicious trading tactics should be punished. and new jersey governor chris christie says he turned down a few jobs in the trump administration because his wife refused to move to d.c. governor christie said he didn't get a job offer he considered exciting enough to leave his office and family. he has two children still in high school. christie is in his final year of his last term as governor. now back to lauren live in washington. donald trump will be sworn in office in two days. >> you moved to a new location since we last saw you about 15 minutes ago. >> reporter: yeah. we moved about the next block over from where we were. we are on the mall right now. in is where a lot of folks will be coming to watch the inauguration. they've got a pretty good view, actually, of the capitol. some of them, if they have maybe tickets that are a little bit farther away, they'll be watching on one of the big screens.

if you look down there, you can see it looks like they're testing one there. before we left town to come here to washington, we traveled around our region to ask people how they're feeling about the inauguration. now just on the verge of it. some people were excited about the idea of a new administration coming in, and others nervous about what happens next. >> at cedar park cafe in west philadelphia, hillary clinton is still here. a photo on the wall shows her campaigning here just days before election day. >> she was definitely the best candidate. >> reporter: these two supported clinton. but it's donald trump who will be sworn in as president. >> are you looking at him now as the guy you didn't vote for or as your president? >> definitely not my president. i can't say trump is our president. i don't think he's fit to representative anything i am. >> reporter: with a new

administration about to start, we asked voters around our region how they feel now. >> i'm psyched. >> reporter: in chester county k kimberly. >> i'm looking forward to the inauguration. i hope there's not a lot of moments that i can't believe what comes out of his mouth. >> reporter: in derz delaware county. >> i'm worried. >> reporter: julia plans to go to the women's march in washington the day after the inauguration. >> i felt like our country is going in a scary place. >> reporter: david said he voted for president-elect trump. >> what is the first thing you hope he'll do? >> i hope that he'll turn the system. i hope we'll have jobs. >> reporter: back at cedar park cafe, a new citizens, andré edwards tells us he voted in his first presidential election. his candidate didn't win but he said he's still hopeful. >> i feel like we shouldn't be afraid at all. i feel like i should stand in that attitude, you know, because that is america.

>> reporter: and, you know, you heard one person in that package talk about coming here for the women's march. there are people from our area who are coming to washington this week to protest. coming up at 5:00, i want to introduce you to folks who worked for donald trump who were out there as volunteers and now they're excited because they're heading here to see him sworn in. guys, back to you. >> lauren, speaking of the arrival, you got there earlier today. what is it like? are people getting there super early for friday's event? >> reporter: yeah, you know, you definitely are seeing people walk around. you can kind of tell who is here for the inauguration. i'll look around to see if i see any now. i don't see any but they're carrying up from manila envelopes and they have the tickets. you can spot them walking around the area. it's pretty calm here today. i guess we should enjoy it. it's going to get a lot busier

middletown at 51 degrees. parts to the south georgetown at 51. lincoln 51. cooler the wind coming in off the chilly delaware bay. lewis 43 degrees. now we're going to have a pretty warm week ahead. all the way through next wednesday, at least. way above normal temperatures. if you want colder weather, it's coming after that. rain. we got some light rain coming friday afternoon. a big storm, a lot of rain, and a lot of wind that's coming sunday afternoon in through monday. right now we have a lot of clouds around. the showers are gone. the next area down south that's what's going to be coming our way as we go into friday. take a look at the by hour-by-hour as we go through

the day storm. a fair amount of sunshine. remember what the sun looks like? we'll see some of that. friday we'll see the clouds increase quickly. here comes the rain. there's washington, d.c., at noontime. at least it's not that heavy. no thunderstorms or know or anything like that. here we are 3:30 and it's raining across the philadelphia area. or at least the early portion of the afternoon rush on friday. then that moves away. that's a pretty small system. the big one is coming sunday night into monday. so here is what the inauguration looks like. at noon that's when the rain is the most likely. we expect some rain earlier. temperatures are in the 40s. we're not expecting a lot of wind. so it's not terrible. now you can see tomorrow look at the temperatures in the 50s. 54 in fairmount.

new details today about the chaos in state college last month. after the penn state football team won the big 10 title, police charged 11 people with different crimes, most of them are current penn state students. if they're convicted, they could get expelled. fans caused thousands of dollars

in damage after the game back in december. police in riot gear had to use pepper spray to get the crowd to calm down. take a look at the massive gator at the florida nature reserve. the video was taken by a visitor. crowds of onlooker are flocking to the reserve to get their own glijs of that guy. park directors are concerned if the gator hurts someone they'll have to do that. >> who are those people like 10-feet away in the background? >> not me. >> not me either. washington getting set for a historic event. the inauguration of donald trump. >> some reinforcements from our area are on the way to the nation's capitol. >> jersey shore cops packed up and heading to washington to help protect the presidential inauguration. >> it's once in a lifetime. >> reporter: the mission they face in the nation's capitol. and not so clean get away.

a live look at the capitol where crews are preparing for friday's presidential inauguration. less than 48 hours to go. >> and local law enforcement is heading to help out with the swearing in and celebration. they left from atlantic and cape may counties today and headed for our nation's capitol.

nbc 10 ted greenberg was there as they rolled out. >> reporter: from ocean city to wildwood, middletownship, to summers point and beyond. cops sworn to protect the jersey shore. bringing their suitcases and their skills to the nation's capitol. >> we have never done this before. it's a good opportunity. >> reporter: seven members of the summers point police department left this morning for washington. they'll help provide security for friday's presidential inauguration of donald trump. likely along the parade route and they know tens of thousands of protesters are also preparing to hit the streets. >> you don't know what to expect. we are anxious but i think everything will work out fine. >> reporter: ocean city sent police officers to past inaugurations, but this is the first time detective robert kooub is getting to go.

parking garage in newark. developers are getting ready to present their proposals. the garage would be behind the main street galleria. some workers are filing a class-action lawsuit saying the company didn't pay them overtime they deserved. they said wawa is violating federal and state laws in new jersey. if managers work more than 40-hours a week and aren't properly compensated. wawa wouldn't comment but said it's proud of the reputation of how it treats workers. going cashless. up next the restaurant chain said it'll soon take plastic only. plus coffee and a slice. 7-eleven's newest item built for the breakfast crowd. and new research on chili peppers and the secret they could hold.

nothing compared that houston. it forced some schools to close today. a reminder to the drivers. turn around don't drown. i want to show you the crash caught on camera in oregon. freezing rain caused a box truck to end up in the middle of a highway. one semimanaged to avoid it but a second couldn't. no one was hurt but the crash shut down the highway for awhile. switching gears. pizza for breakfast! we've done it. now 7-eleven has a new creation. it consists of a biscuit crust topped with bacon, sausage, ham, scrambled eggs, and gravy. the pizzas are selling pretty well. if you don't like that, you can leave the cash at home if you eat at sweet green. all the locations are going cashless. it means you'll only be able to

[ laughter ] >> he definitely heard that. that's gavin arroyo and his mom jenny. he was born with a rare agreeic disorder that left him deaf and blind. he recently received an implant to help him hear. as soon as he heard his mother's voice, he perked up and leaned in to kiss her. >> i love that! beautiful. very, very cute. something else we'll love, the awkward transition here -- warm temperatures outside. above-average temperatures. >> we'll take it, glenn. >> yeah. and we have quite a stretch on the way. the whole next week it's going to feature way above average temperatures. 47 right now. even with the cloudy skies!

we've got temperatures way above average in parts of delaware it's 51 degrees. a little bit of sunshine in some areas there. 47 at philly international. remember the average high temperatures only 40 degrees. the official high today 49. almost 10 degrees above normal without the sunshine. tomorrow with some sunshine it's going to get even warmer. friday we got the clouds back so it'll be down a little. but that's still 10 degrees above average. no more fog around. no more showers. the next area of moisture moving up this way for friday. watch what happens hour-by-hour. we're fine the day tomorrow.

it'll start with tomorrow night and focus on washington, d.c. a big event going on there on friday. there's 6:00 a.m. and it's dry. and there it's noon and it's not dry. that's a fairly steady rain and a little area in yellow is at least moderate rain and moves out quickly and moves up to philadelphia. by the afternoon rush, it's raining here and that steady rain is coming and that moves out for friday night setting us up for a dry saturday. we're not going to be able to keep a dry sunday. there's the inauguration specifics. some showers at 9:00. the steady rain at noon, and then tampering off or ending by 3:00. temperatures into the 40s. the warmest inauguration ever was 55 degrees. so not that far off. tomorrow we have temperatures near 50 degrees. even in easten and bethlehem and

redding. getting into the 50s in westchester and newtown. 52 degrees. some sunshine. no strong wind. no rain. as we head into new jersey, same story. a lot of places into the 50s during the day tomorrow. 55 in wilmington. now we've got a storm that will be developing over the weekend, and we're going to start getting the effects of it sunday afternoon. it looks like it may last into early tuesday. this may be a pretty significant nor'easter with heavy rain, especially on monday, and strong winds. we got some computer models showing really, really strong winds coming in on monday.

i was there. 40 years ago, the only time ever that it snowed in miami, florida, and i was the first person to detect it on radar and my supervisor was so shocked. he wouldn't let me put in the report officially. because it never snows here. >> were you an intern then? >> i was an intern at the national hurricane center. i was asking the forecasters -- and the front is coming down the state and it's snowing in tampa and orlando. i said what is the to stop it from coming to palm beach. it never happens. an hour later it's down there. what's to stop it from coming down. it never happens. and the whole night was like that. it just kept snowing in different places. it snowed like an inch in tampa. >> it's amazing. >> that was the thing. my supervisor wouldn't let me do. he said, i'm from pennsylvania. i know what snow looks like on
