nbc 10 sent a team to washingtoning to bring you the parties, the politics, and the protests. it is the inauguration of donald trump. good evening i'm jim rosenfield. >> i'm jacqueline london, we're live in washington, d.c. where less than 24 hours from now, donald trump will be sworn in as the are 45th president of the united states. and in fact, president elect donald trump and his wife, melania, just arrived here in washington, d.c. at the site of the celebration that is taking place this evening. a concert where people are gathered to support donald trump and hear the music that will come out tonight. >> all day long, our nbc 10 inauguration team has been spread out across the district to bring you the latest on these events leading up to tomorrow's inauguration. >> we want to go to lauren mayk who is at the lincoln memorial with more on the celebration. >> reporter: we've been making our way across the mall and we

have made it now to the lincoln memorial. and we stopped right here, because this is a great view to show you of what's happening here. you can see things all lit up there and the screens along the reflecting pool there. so that the crowd can see up close what is happening. there was a big cheer we heard here when donald trump and his family made that first appearance here. you know, this is a chance for folks to see him and hear him today and be part of this, even though they may not have quite as good as a seat tomorrow. they may not even have tickets. matter of fact, i spoke with some folks from south philly who were here just for this today. they won't be here tomorrow. they are getting to experience a little piece of history tonight. guys, back to you. all right. lauren thank you. we can tell you that security is tight and local men and women here are helping to make sure that everyone remains under

control. >> more than 400 soldier and airmen in fact from the delaware national guard are among those coming to help out with the security efforts that keep people safe at the inauguration. there are troops from pennsylvania and new jersey as well. they're all here preparing for any potential problems that may occur during tomorrow's events. his first ride in a military plane, president elect donald trump arriving at andrews air force base this afternoon with his family. rehearsals are underway for tomorrow's inauguration. 28,000 officers are securing the national mall, the parade route and other sites. >> wsome sworn in this morning. >> history is going to be happening here. to be part of the group that's going to be supporting this mission. for me it's cool. >> as washington gets ready for huge crowds. demonstration and a big musical celebration tonight.

jones and erin coleman. >> we'll check in with you, of course, throughout the show. we appreciate your time. we've got a lot of news to talk about back here at home, including main street is on high alert because a popular store was being robbed last night. >> the shop is along main street next to other stores. they were all packed with people. >> nbc 10's cydney long is live along main street tonight. this isn't the first time this has happened. >> reporter: it's not. last night's brazen hold up happened here at remix. just since january 5th, police have responded to four other thefts here in manioc. the other two were four blocks down this way. they were stolen items. city leaders say they won't stand for it. >> this is not the norm. this never happened here. >> reporter: last night before closing inside the remix

consignment couture. >> it was not a spur of a moment let's do this. >> reporter: armed crooks raided the place. they bound a female employee and a 65-year-old male customer with zip ties. the head of the development authority is livid. >> that blows my mind. i'm sorry to be so blunt about that. but they literally, they looked into the camera. so they weren't worried. >> police have yet to release any surveillance video. neighboring businesses with cameras also turned us down. a female employee who spoke to the detectives and city leaders didn't wish to speak to us. >> we just got in town last night. >> reporter: visiting from ohio word of the holdup has lindsay on edge. >> i would never expect something like that to happen. especially someone to come in with masks. >> reporter: some plan to carry mace and walk in pairs. >> sometimes i have to park further for work.

>> someone might case the place. we'll be better prepared for them and hope thael there won't be a next time. >> they should be worried because we have then. there's 50 something cameras in this district looking at the streets. we'll have the car they used. >> reporter: now, councilman jones says the silver lining in all this, there is three ways in and out. strategically placing the surveillance cameras in specific areas of the city they'll be able to solve crimes like this one and do it quickly. i'm cydney long, nbc 10 news. thank you. in the meantime you see the black jacket, it's light spring-like temperatures made for a nice day today. this is salive look down the shore at came may. which is still too cold for the beach. big changes are on the way. >> strong winds, heavy rain and coastal flooding are expected this weekend. first alert meteorologist erica martin is tracking the weather that's moving our way. >> that's right. right now we're seeing

spring-like conditions. sunset 5:05 p.m. we're tracking showers on the approach. let's go ahead and take a look at our hour by hour forecast, including our temperatures. notice we're mainly seeing 40s. doyletown 43. po potts town. 45. along with philadelphia. but as you get this going into tonight, we're seeing mainly mid to upper 30s across the area. by tomorrow, i'm tracking showers moving in from the southwest towards the northeast. even though temperatures will be above normal. we are expecting some showers moving in. widely scattered at times. i do think we'll see an issue for the afternoon and evening commute as the system continues to work its way towards the northeast. notice by 7:00 p.m. tomorrow, temperatures mainly in the low to mid40s. >> still seeing scattered showers moving towards the northeast. and everything clearing by about 9:00, 10:00 p.m. a quick look at the weekend. notice temperatures will be pretty much above normal for tomorrow with those showers in store on saturday. that will be the dry day of the

weekend. upper 40s to low 50s. mid 50s for philadelphia. increasing clouds into sunday. tracking a system, in fact, a major system that could bring us lots of rain and some really strong wind gusts developing sunday into monday. temperatures mainly in the mid to upper 40s. so coming up we'll talk about the system we're tracking for you here and talk how it will affect your monday morning commute. nbc 10 is working to find out when a fugitive caught in peru will return to our area. officers caught this man earlier this month in lima after six years on the run. investigators say he flew to south america after he was charged in a deadly crash in bucks county. he is accused of crashing his car into a woman's car back in 2010. she died in that crash. a man is accused of trying to kill his wife after a bad dream.

police say the 49-year-old woke up convinced his wife had cheated on him and started choking her. his teenage daughter tried to intervene. he tried to attack her. the girl was able to escape and call for help. a following up to a story, two new jersey congressman have introduced legislation to allow towns to paint blue lines to honor police officers. the lines started popping up last year. regulators say the lines violate safety rules. whoa baby, state troopers come to the rescue when a baby decided it was going to make an early entrance into the world. that story, all new, coming up next. he made campaign promises, what does that mean for policy in philadelphia? nbc 10's lauren mayk speaks with mayor jim kenny about changes we could see. investigators tell me someone intentionally set the fire that did this damage to

welcome back to our live coverage from the nation's capital. people have come from all over the country to be here for donald trump's inauguration. earlier today, i was over by the capitol. i ran into three women from

texas. one woman had earrings with a trump name on them. >> you see a lot of color all over. for some it's their first time visiting the nation's capital and their very first inauguration. >> we have something to sing about. we're happy deplorables. >> dean lives in california and he's showing his support for trump in d.c. he says back home he got a lot of flack for supporting trump. today in washington, people were shaking his hand and posing for pictures. dean says the president elect has already had a positive impact on his life. >> got out of homelessininess. got a job, part time. it motivated me, inspired me. if we don't have a leader that's going to inspire and motivate us, what good is it? >> this is dean's first inauguration. likely his last. he said he simply felt compelled to be here. if you want to see what's

for two suspected arsonists. >> they're believed to have start adfire in one home that spread to others leaving some families with little to nothing. nbc 10's tim furlong spoke with some of the homeowners. >> flames went up through the roof. it went straight up. >> reporter: antoine says the fire spread quickly through his house. he saw the two guys that started it. they first set his shed on fire and tried to come inside the house. >> they took the shovel from the shed and shattered my patio door window. if i hadn't had jumped up off the coach and started screaming at them they would have been in my house. >> reporter: we were given a number of video clips of the scene overnight here at the newcastle point town homes. we were here today for the clean up. the fire marshall says there's $300,000 worth of damage and six people need to find someplace to live. >> i'm mad, i'm angry. >> reporter: mike had a tough

time talking to me. he said he wishes he could have saved his most prized possessions. >> there are pictures and things like that that my children and family members -- >> i don't have a clue. >> reporter: antoine is trying to figure out why the house he shares with his 17-year-old son was targeted. he's lived there 20 years. he hadn't had a problem until three weeks ago until somebody slashed his tires and now this. two guys he believes destroyed his home and those of his neighbors he says. >> may god have mercy on you. >> reporter: in newcastle nbc 10 news. i'm first alert meteorologist erica martin. while conditions are dry right now, weather headlines include tracking rain showers through tomorrow. the p.m. commute for friday. we expect a system moving in from the southwest to the northeast. it won't be a washout, but certainly a commute headache.

saturday will be warm and dry, sunday a storm will move in. on monday it looks like we have heavy rain and gusty winds. coastal flood threat as well. doppler radar right now is dry. we're seeing clouds move in towards the northeast. philadelphia, 46 with northeasterly winds. normal high for today is 40 degrees. the record high 65 back in 1951. and today's high temperature, 49 degrees. so locally your neighborhoods looks like this. lots of 40s in and around philadelphia. buffington, 43. parkwood 45. chestnut hill 42. society hill 46. so temperatures above normal for today. and we'll trend that way for tomorrow. the jersey shore seeing upper 40s. woodbine 49. upper township at 48. cape may courthouse at 46. may's landing 47. summers point also seeing upper 40s.

for tomorrow temperatures are going to be, again, above normal. lots of mid to upper 40s. lehigh valley seeing low 40s for you. 43 for bethbethlehem. newtown, 47. overnight lows in the 30s. phoenixville 46 is your expected high temperature. mount airy 45 degrees. again, trending warm as we saw today for tomorrow and through the weekend. haddenfield, your expected high for tomorrow 48. taking a look at the jersey shore. atlantic city seeing rain showers moving through again, not a washout. but scattered showers. 48 degrees as your high temperature. dover, looking at 46 degrees as your expected high. and wilmington, 48. hour by hour forecast. notice we'll start this tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m. the clouds will develop quickly ahead of the showers. by noon, we're already seeing a line of showers moving through

again. 5:00 p.m. for the evening commute. nuisance rain showers there. everything starting clear after 9:00 p.m., 10:00 p.m., 11:00 p.m. we have a first alert that's been issued for rain and strong winds as we track a system for the entire area. and that's on sunday through monday night. notice what we can expect, rain and heavy at times, some strong wind gusts. in fact we could see wind gusts topping at 50, 55 miles per hour and possibly coastal flooding. here is the track of the system moving in on sunday into monday. 7:30 p.m., we are seeing heavy pockets of downpours there. again, really strong gusty winds. at least through late monday. keep that in mind. i do think everything will clear by early tuesday. your ten day on 10 brings us p.m. fog friday into saturday and then tracking those showers. that storm sunday into monday. athank you coming up.

mom supported hillary clinton. doug said he couldn't tell his family at first. he kept it in the closet. i asked them both what it's like to be in washington for this inauguration? >> it's very, very hard. and now i feel as if i cannot be that vocal. >> for you how exciting is it for you to be here? >> it's the best day of my entire life. >> the good news is the family is still getting along. >> that's great. >> there are no fights at the dinner table. and they say it really is all about family and they just wanted to support each other. but she is still a hillary clinton supporter and he is so excited to be here to see donald trump. >> the feelings on both sides, depending on who you were supporting, incapsulated in that one family, mom and son. if you want to know what's going on behind the scenes, we love posting on social media for all of you, be sure to follow us on

their support. >> during the campaign we heard president elect trump talk about policies. >> lauren mayk has new on how new presidential policies might have an impact in philadelphia. >> reporter: we are here at the lincoln memorial. some folks started gathering behind us. they're from texas and they're very excited to be here. let me show you the crowd that has gathered here. this is the reflecting pool. you can see how they've gathered along the railing here to be here for this. this is the celebration, tomorrow is the pageantry, and after that they get to work. we wanted to take a look at how things may affect our area. when it comes to campaign promises, these were some of donald trump's most famous. >> we'll be able to immediately repeal and replace obamacare. >> but now that the president

elect is about to take office, the supporters and local officials look to see what turns topolicies. what's your expectation? >> i don't know. if this were mitt romney or george bush or ronald reagan, mccain, we would have an idea. philosophically what might happen. >> reporter: here's one way changes could affect cities like philadelphia. last september candidate trump told me he'd defund sanctuary cities. we crunched the money and found philadelphia expecting more than $600 million in federal funds. money going to things from public safety to street repairs. to healthcare and parks. mr. trump didn't specify which could be trump. what impact would it have? >> we don't know how much of an impact it will have.

we have to remember, the president or senator toomey or whoever will ask their colleagues to cast the vote to take money away from police officers and firefighters. public safety moneys. >> reporter: so they are really taking a wait and see approach in the city of philadelphia at this point. what you're looking at it now, these are live pictures we're seeing at the concert happening at the make america great again welcome celebration here at the lincoln memorial. a crowd has gathered along the reflecting pool to be here. donald trump and his family are here tonight. we are expecting him to talk to this crowd. just as he has done at so many rallies. and again, these are pictures of the concert that is happening right now. we have also heard from other performers here tonight, lee greenwood performed just a little while ago. got the crowd very intently listening to him for that one as

you might imagine. this crowd enjoying sort of a leisurely evening before tomorrow. now doubt that crowd eager to hear from donald trump himself. thanks for that live update there. donald trump took office a day early. >> really? >> a new wax figure was installed at the paris wax museum. trump now stands between german chancellor angela merkel and russian leader vladmir putin. that statue was completed on short notice because the museum expected hnts to w expected hillary clinton to win. we're expecting 900,000 people at trump's inauguration. >> to put that in perspective that's half the number that showed up at president obama's first inauguration in 2009, right? >> exactly. >> among those planning to attend is a group called bikers for trump.

grabbing her by the neck. the officer used a baton to fight back, another officer deployed a taser. the suspect collapsed. officers issued a dose of mulox done thinking he was overdosing on drugs. >> i could have seen if they was scared, you know, seeing someone jumping on their car at 5:00 in the morning not knowing what to do. >> police say right now it appears the metal taser prongs didn't penetrate the suspect's skin. >> a block away from that scene, a police car crashed under a bridge. this is at t10th and poplar. the air bags deployed, the officer is okay. turning now to the weather, what a nice day taking a live look at broad street in center city. warmer than usual temperatures today. you can enjoy that until sunday morning. >> sunday, though is when the winds kick up, the rains move in. you can see the weather creeping up from the south on first alert radar. we are taking serious

precautions here. talking about serious winds, damaging rain that could produce coastal flooding. >> nbc 10 first alert meteorologist erika martin is here. >> we are tracking a system that's due here sunday into monday. in fact, pretty large and strong storm. right now, hour by hour forecast is also picking up on rain showers moving from the southwest. we'll start this at 5:30 p.m. and get it into motion. we see the clouds developing from the southwest to the northeast. 12:30 p.m., we're starting to see the initiation of the rain showers moving in, a line of rain showers moving across the area. widespread by 4:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m. it there could be an issue for the afternoon and evening commute. on friday, give yourself extra time. 6:00 p.m. we see the clearing of the showers. everything clears offshore by 10:00 p.m. your three day out look showers on friday. temperatures in the mid to upper 40s. saturday, a warmer and drier day. seeing lots of 50s. sunday, notice we drop into the

welcome back to our live coverage from washington. we want to bring you an update on the health of president george h.w. bush and his wife, barbara. they are both still in a houston hospital. >> he is in intensive care following a setback from breathing problems associated with pneumonia. the former first lady is being treated for bronchitis. >> back here in washington we've gottenen an update. donald trump is expected to speak at the event at the lincoln memorial. we understand it will be half an hour for that. we'll bring that to you, live, of course. >> for now let's go back to the

leave the washington, d.c. area tomorrow with his family. they are going to take a vacation. we want to give you a look at the schedule for tomorrow's inauguration of donald trump. it begins in the morning when donald trump takes the oath of office at the swearering in ceremony at the u.s. capitol. there's the inaugural parade along pennsylvania avenue. tomorrow night the three official inaugural balls. there is so much happening in washington as we were getting ready for the inauguration. >> lots of people coming to the nation's capital. we'll bring it to you live. but for now let's send it to philadelphia. the concert is happening at the lincoln memorial. the u.s. army band is playing, stay tuned for that. a couple minutes away. a burlington county teenager is missing. police are working to find her. 18-year-old alley mcgrory hasn't

been seen since tuesday afternoon. when she missed classes and softball practice the school called police. we'll continue to follow the story and bring you any updates. federal investigators are ruling out any man made devices as the cause of a crash -- a trash can explosion i should say last october. a blast expert with the bureau of the atf called the explosion organic. no one was injured in that blast. m. and villanova is celebrating its 175th anniversary. sky force 10 is live over the university right now. the school kicked off the historic mile stone with fireworks in the center of campus. we are hoping to catch some right now. you see tons of people out there. look at that. all right in the middle of the quad there. students and faculty will sample foods from the 1800's.
