emergency services are treating this incident as a, quote, mass casualty event and hospitals have been put on a code red. police shot the man who they say deliberate drove into those people. he was arrested at the scene. people were pitting down this man who was wearing red underwear and white shoes. they say the incident is not related to terrorism. >> mexican drug lord guzman is now in the united states extradited from mexico landing in mcarthur airport landing on long island in new york. mexican law enforcement took him earlier in the day whimping him on to a the h.authorities there had originally insisted that el chapo would serve a long sentence in mexico before extradition. however, officials began to reconsider after the drug kingpin made a brazen escape from a maximum security prison in 2015. he slipped into a hole and a shower and then fled on a motor bike for a mile-long tunnel that led to a residential construction side. guzman was recaptured by the mexican navy six months later

and has remained in custody since then. mexican authorities apparently wanted el chapo sent under the obama administration before donald trump assumes the presidency. he's expected to appear in federal court in brooklyn this morning on drug trafficking charges. all right. rescue remembers still searching for survivors from the avalanche that buried a hotel in italy. authorities say that 34 people were at the site when be a avalanche came roaring down after an earthquake. dozens of rescuers are still digging through the snow and rubble and have made their way into parts of the hotel. at least two victims' bodies have been recovered, but rescuers say they still have hope because the hotel is big, and there could be pockets of air. 4 of the 24 guests at the hotel were children. so far only two people, including the man seen here, have been found alive. >> back to the big event of the day. will it be a beautiful or damp inauguration for donald trump and mike pence? let's check in with nbc meteorologist bill karins who will tell us all.
