much you could save now. . making noise and marching. 50,000 people packed the parkway for the women's march philadelphia. cracked. tonight, a new picture of the crack in the bridge connecting the pennsylvania and new jersey turnpikes. and fog falls over philadelphia. but we're tracking some wet, windy weather moving into tomorrow that could have a major impact on you. good evening. i'm denise nakano. we are watching a northea'easte making its way to our area. it will have a major impact on your sunday night into monday morning. right now, very hard to see very far. you're looking live at philadelphia international airport and that radar.

this will be moving out and when it does, we'll get a dose of rain, but heavy rain and strong winds will move right in tomorrow night. so we've issued a fleirst alerto you are prepared. >> right now, the big issue is that dense fog. a live look outside, cape may, you can't see very much. visibility, it's poor for the entire viewing area. so let's take a look at this fog advisory, in effect from 5:00 a.m. notice, visibility for the entire area, allentown, half a mile. hazleton, dearing, redding, half a mile. blue bell, under two miles. trenton, under two miles. northeast philly, just over 2-mile visibility. and philadelphia, currently, less than a mile visibility. so conditions are really dangerous. we have a lot of moisture, very light wind as a warm front starts to approach. those are all the ingredients that we need, of course, to develop this fog. and noted here in atlantic city, two-mile visibility, and mt. holly, under two miles for you, along with millville.

so, hour by hour forecast shows all those clouds starting to develop. as denise mentioned, we're tracking showers, tracking heavy rain, in fact, in two rounds. first, we're going to track this system moving in tonight through tomorrow. around midnight, we start to see rain moving in from the southwest towards the northeast. it could get heavy by early tomorrow morning. i'll have more details on this moving offshore and the heavier rain moving into our area by tomorrow afternoon. denise, back to you. >> erika, thank you. you can always get your neighborhood forecast on the nbc 10 app. use the interactive radar to zoom right in to your backyard, so you know what's coming and whe when. well, crowds were much larger than expected in center city today for the women's march. 20,000 were expected, but around 50,000 people showed up. and in d.c., more than 600,000 people turned out. the idea for these marches came after donald trump won the election. it started with 40 women on facebook saying they wanted to

march in d.c. and that idea ballooned. let's go to nbc 10's randy gyllenhaal live along the parkway where signs are still hanging at the museum. randy? >> reporter: call it a sign of the times. these people came across the region for a number of different reasons, packing the parkway. a lot of their handmade signs are still here for people to see. you see this, my body, my rule. and a number of the people here, mostly women, are telling me they'd like to spark a resistance against the new trump administration. the parkway packed shoulder to shoulder, mostly women, marching with hand-written signs, mixed in with chants for change. >> build bridges, not walls. >> reporter: for many, it's their first political protest. some families bringing their young daughters. >> we wanted to show them that you can have a voice. >> reporter: the march is a direct response to president donald trump's inauguration. crowds in philly saying his

rhetoric demeans women and minorities. >> can we march every weekend? i said, we may have to. >> reporter: laura says she still can't believe he was elected, despite being accused of repeated sexual assault. >> i can't believe it. it's insane to me. it's just -- it's -- where do we drawn the line for the leaders of our country? >> to see that a man like that can have such power. how do i explain that to my daughter? >> reporter: in addition to women's rights issues, if you look through the crowd here, there are signs for everything from health care to environmental issues, a lot of protesters here even have concerns about president trump's ties the to the russian government. >> he's a scary person who might owe money to the russian government as soon as his taxes come out. >> reporter: the city estimates 50,000 people marched in philly, but the challenge ahead is turning this energy into legislative action, just two months after the election that saw democrats lose both congress and the white house. >> we are the citizens of this

country. black, white, muslim, native american. we are like everybody. we are the people of this country. we make this decisions, they don't. >> reporter: and organizers stress that these rallies were not solely a statement against donald trump, but also a grassroots movement by women across the country. at this hour, so far, the new president has not responded to these rallies nationwide. live in philadelphia, randy gyllenhaal, nbc 10 news. >> thanks, randy. we're going to have much more on the washington march, where nearly a half million people turned out. that's coming up at 6:15. right now, people are still in the streets in new york city. check out that crowd. here's a live look at trump tower. and more than 200 protesters were arrested in washington yesterday. today, they all have court dates. some of them have already been charged with felony rioting. they could face up to ten years behind bars. well, president trump visited cia headquarters on his first full day in office.

he addressed about 400 cia employees, and told the crowd no one feels stronger about the intelligence community than he does. >> they sort of made it sound like i had a feud with the intelligence community. and i want to let you know, the reason you're the number one stop is exactly the opposite. >> the meeting follows president trump's repeated and sharp public criticism of u.s. intelligence agencies before and after the election. well, when will the delaware river bridge reopen? tonight, the p.a. turnpike commission is saying it could be closed for another two weeks. the bridge is closed indefinitely after crews spotted a crack yesterday afternoon. the bridge is a major connector between bus and burlington counties. more than 40,000 cars drive across this bridge every day. nbc 10's aundrea cline-thomas is live in bristol tonight. and you have new pictures of that crack? >> that's right, denise. but first i want to show you what's going on right here.

we're going to have you guys look up. the crews that are work, they're working to stabilize the bridge. as for drivers, you're really going to need to get a handle on all of those detours. this is why. take a look. you see the truss is completely split. and this was found by mistake. yesterday, inspectors were examining a paint project on delaware turnpike bridge when they saw what's being described as a significant fracture. traffic in both directions was completely shut down. right now, no one knows for sure how this happened. early guesses point to changes in the weather. now, right now, crews are working to make sure there isn't any more movement where the split happened. the next step involves assessing the entire 1.2 miles of the bridge, to make sure there aren't any other fractures. now, survivors are struggling to find detours. >> have to go all the way back almost to philly before i can find my way back home.

>> reporter: so, now for the timeline, this work to stabilize the bridge, that will last until this weekend. but it will take another two weeks to assess the entire bridge. then the engineers will come together and figure out a plan on how to fix this. reporting live in bristol, aundrea cline-thomas, nbc 10 news. >> thanks, aundrea. we're learning new details about an earnily morning home invasion and sexual assault in chestnut hill. just before 4:30, a man broke into a home on chestnut hill avenue and forced his way into the bedroom where a man and woman were sleeping. the gunman sexually assaulted the 56-year-old woman and took off in her 2017 hyundai elantra. he also took other keys, a wallet, and a cell phone. authorities say a fire that killed two people in chester, delaware county, yesterday appears to have been accidental. the victims were brothers. 49 steven and 35-year-old sherman demby. their mother discovered the

flames, but could not go inside the home on morton avenue because the fire was too intense. new at 6:00, a transgender attack in center city at the same time an lbgtq is in town. philadelphia police released this video of the suspect yesterday afternoon. police say the man had a confrontation with the woman, and then attacked her and shouted homophobic slurs. the video was recorded on facebook live. septa slowdowns. coming up, why trains were so packed today and when you can expect schedules to get back to normal. plus, a deadly tornado sweeps through mississippi. first alert meteorologist erika martine explains how this weather is part of a system heading our way.

the drug enforcement administration announced plans to boost anti-drug efforts in part of philadelphia's hardest hit neighborhoods. the dea announced the launch of its 360 strategy in philadelphia during a community summit in fair hill. authorities say no areas have been more affected by the heroin epidemic than the communities of fair hill and west kensington. 360 expands the role of the dea beyond just going after drug traffickers. instead, the administration will focus on education in the community and its schools. the nbc 10 digital team profiled 360 and other programs in the digital exclusive called "generation addicted." you can watch it right now on the nbc 10 app. well, police in montgomery county want you to take a good look at this man. they say he robbed the t.d. bank on old york road in abingdon last night after a teller handed him a bag of cash, investigators say the man robbed the bank. we are keeping a close eye

well, the streets weren't the only place crowded with people today for the women's march in philadelphia. so were the septa stations. take a look at the line of people waiting for trains inner city. some passengers were frustrated, but say it was well worth the wait to be a part of history. >> you kind of expect it. a lot of people. it was a great event. really good turnout. so i don't mind waiting, as long as i know the train is going to come and i'm not standing out in the cold. >> septa says trains are still running about 20 minutes behind

schedule tonight. and there are also marches in delaware and new jersey. this was the scene this morning in newark. women rallied together inside the unitarian universalist scholarship of newark before they marched for two miles. to new jersey, where thousands marched to the war memorial in trenton. the crowd was estimated at about 6,000. and women and men rallied for different causes. well, nearly a half million people gathered on the national mall for the women's march on washington saying women will not be silent during president trump's presidency. nbc's julie carey has more from washington. >> reporter: the turnout so large, it couldn't be contained on the national mall, surrounding streets jam-packed. demonstrators from all over the country. their signs reflecting differing concerns. pink knitted hats covering many heads. on the main stage, celebrities like alicia keys and madonna

along with famed activists, all promising to push back against any erosion of women's rights. >> we will organize, we will fight, and we will march on until victory is won. >> one of us can be dismissed, two of us can be ignored, but together, we're a movement and we are unstoppable. >> reporter: one of the most impassioned speeches, from michael moore, mocking a newspaper headline reading, "trump takes power." >> i don't think so! here's the power! here's the majority of america, right here! >> reporter: as the audience cheered, moore ripped the headline in half. blocks away from the main stage, demonstrators waited patiently for the chance to march. the majority here, women, naturally, but many men joined in, too. in many cases, whole families stepping into the crush of people. >> i think the sheer numbers,

people will have to start listening a little bit more when they see how many people came and how far we came. >> reporter: but in the end, the size of the crowd made it impossible to move as one along the pre-planned route, so after four hours of speeches and performances, some demonstrators headed home. most, though, set off in different directions, creating a series of marches. >> well, this was the march. there's just so many people -- >> we can't march because there are so many people here, you know? >> i'm not disappointed. >> and that was nbc's julie carey reporting. tonight at 11:00, hear from local women from our region that traveled to d.c. to march today. well, a deadly tornado swept through mississippi this morning, severely damaging a college campus. this is how william carey university looked just hours after that tornado hit. four people were killed in the storm, but fortunately, only a few others were hurt. and erika, this is part of a system that's coming our way? >> that's right, denise. we do have our system headed in our direction. it so looks like we'll get it in two rounds. otherwise, right now, a live look outside.

i-95. we are seeing dense fog. that's the immediate concern, because we're seeing visibility less than two miles. however, we are tracking, of course, those rain showers, that heavy rain headed our way. satellite and radar image right now locally, you can see those clouds developing across the entire viewing area. a wider perspective. denise, this is just what you were talking about. this is headed across the northeast. notice those heavier pockets of downpours. get ready for that. otherwise, we are still expecting another low to develop out in texas. that will follow us soon and bring us heavier downpours sunday into monday, with some really strong wind speeds and wind gusts. so we do have a first alert, it has been issued for the entire viewing area. no one's exempt. and this will be p.m. sunday through a.m. tuesday, when everything starts to clear. what can we expect? rain, heavy at times, certainly damaging winds, coastal flooding, and possibly some beach erosion. so let's go through this, hour by hour, starting at 6:30 p.m.

you can see that rain headed in. i'd said after midnight, this is the first round. we're going to see everything moving in. again, after midnight, possibly, 11:00 p.m. tonight, through early tomorrow morning. notice how this favors the southern portion of our area. new castle county, kent county, as well, cape may, and atlantic counties. this starts to push offshore. it looks like we do have a little bit of a lull, but wait for it. we have more rain, heavy downpours, already on the approach by about 5:00 p.m. tomorrow afternoon. into the evening hours, by 7:00 p.m., it looks like we have heavy pockets of downpours. and that's when the winds start to kick up. by early monday morning, it looks like we could see some change over here, for parts of the lehigh valley. perhaps a wintry mix. we're not done there, for the early monday morning commute, still seeing the threat of a wintry mix for parts of lehigh valley. and we see some heavy pockets of rain, even by noontime, lehigh valley, you may see, again, a little bit of a wintry mix,

including some sleet, and perhaps some passing light snow. otherwise, this system does not completely clear until later on tuesday morning, because notice early tuesday, at about 3:00 a.m., we start to see some more rain moving through and possibly that wintry mix again. so hour-by-hour forecast, in addition to this system being so complex, i could talk about this for about an hour, we do have those winds that are a big issue. these are wind gusts. notice by tomorrow afternoon, we're already seeing wind gusts increasing through about 20 to 30 miles an hour. certainly going to be a major issue come early monday morning. a heads up now, we could see wind gusts, especially along the shore, gusting up to about 50 to 60 miles an hour. >> like a one-two punch and i know you'll be watching it. >> for sure. thanks, erika. here's danny pommel with sports. >> the flyers hope to make a gush through the standings to begin their playoff push after a five-day layoff. and villanova turns to one of
