plus president trump's plan to visit philadelphia. nbc 10 breaking news. >> the monday blues. heavy rain, gusty winds, and even beach erosion. we're in store for a first alert weather day and nbc 10 is the place to turn for the most accurate weather in your neighborhood. good evening, the rain started earlier today and it won't stop until tuesday. tonight we have team coverage to get you prepared for when you wake up in the morning and head out the door. we start with the latest timing of the rain and strong winds with nbc 10 first alert meteorologist erica martin. >> here's the deal, we have this system that's moving in already seeing scattered showers moving into the entire viewing area. you can see right here hour by hour, starting at 11:00 p.m., we'll get this going for you. it really doesn't pick up until after midnight. in fact until early tomorrow morning, 5:00 a.m., you start to see the leading edge moving in from the south, southeast. we have an on-shore push as

well. they will essentially merge and this is widespread rain across the entire area. pockets of downpours for parts of sussex county. everything moving through delaware first then towards the northeast. we had that nor'easter certainly affecting everybody. nobody's going to be excluded by 3:00 p.m., this is where the precipitation gets heavier. the rain will get a lot heavy, especially for the afternoon and evening commutes. i don't see it being an issue for the early morning commute, but certainly for the afternoon and evening commute as far as this hour by hour picks up all that heavy rain. and it looks like we could see a little bit of a wintery mix perhaps sleet for the valley. east, northeasterly 25 mile per hour wind speed sustained for atlantic city. 26 for wildwood, 18 nor mill bill and trenton, 21 mile per hour. let's take a look at those hour by hour wind gusts through tomorrow and notice how quickly

they pick up. we're seeing 41 mile per hour wind gust for atlantic city, ocean city, 37 for you along with wildwood at 3:00 a.m., then pause this by tomorrow morning, 6:00 a.m., still seeing strong wind gusts. that's one of the big stories and of course coming up, i have more information and we're going to talk about storm ranger, exclusive storm ranger here and we're going to talk about all of that rain headed in our direction. >> speaking of that, nbc 10 is live along the jersey shore with the high-tech crew on wheels. the storm radar right now, this is a look at del mar. and sandbags are in place further down the shore. people are bracing for the worst when high tide rolls in early tomorrow morning. nbc's randy gyllenhaal drove up to ocean city, now joins us live from summer's point. what's the current situation there tonight, randy? >> reporter: the real concern will be tomorrow afternoon during that late afternoon high

tide. combining with those heavy wind gusts perhaps approaching 60 miles per hour. it's causing shore town up and down the coast to prepare for this exactly one year after many towns were hit with some tidal flooding. ahead of the approaching nor'easter, tom barrett helped shore up a jersey shore fudge shop. >> honestly, it's just kind of hope and pray sort of thing. you do what you can. >> reporter: sandbags are piling up to help keep water out if the back bay here begins to flood. >> plan is hit the liquor store, drink some beer and hang out. >> reporter: the storm comes exactly one year after shore towns like stone harbor were hit with massive tidal flooding from another winter nor'easter. >> look. the iceberg's in the street, it was very scary. >> reporter: a lot of water in the street. >> a the love water in the street, but i stayed there because i had two puppies. >> reporter: janet says she learned a tough lesson last year, tie down everything in the front and backyards.

>> not tied down. and we didn't tie or trash can. that's different from last time. >> reporter: atlantic city electric says they could cause power outages. more than 100 extra crews, the coast guard asking voters to secure their vessels telling anyone on the water to be careful. >> wax up our surf boards, it's going to get good. >> reporter: he is a surfer and says he'll ride the storm out at the bar next door, then he'll hit the waves once the winds day down. >> most people will wear a five millimeter wet suit and boots and gloves. and you're good in that. it can get really good. with that scenario. >> reporter: it's going to be cold if you're going surfing. there's also an early morning high tide to talk about tomorrow. that will begin about 5:00 a.m. and could pose some problems especially if those winds start picking up early. randy gyllenhaal, nbc 10 news. and snow is expected to fall tomorrow in the poconos. here's a live look at camelback mountain.

ski resorts are hoping for fresh powder. today's weather impacted flights at philadelphia international airport. planes landed about an hour late today. pack your patience tomorrow and check your flight status before leaving your house for the airport. and as erica mentioned, wind gusts could reach 60 miles an hour. tonight, local utility companies are bracing for the worst for the potential for power outages. the companies are bringing in extra people to work overnight and throughout the day tomorrow. and count on nbc 10 to keep you covered tomorrow. we are bringing our team in early. so you're prepared for the weather. watch nbc 10 news today tomorrow morning half hour early starting at 4:00 a.m. well the weather isn't the only thing that's going to cause traffic trouble for the morning rush. the turnpike bridge remains closed and drivers from pennsylvania and new jersey will have to find another way to get to work in the morning. drivers from new jersey won't be able to take exit six to get to

the pennsylvania turnpike. and drivers in pa will have to get off at exit 358 in bristol. it's because inspectors found a crack under the bridge. nbc 10's andrea thomas joins us live from bristol with how people are going to get around, andrea. >> reporter: well the signs are all along the turnpike warning drivers about the road closures and the ripple effect is being felt from trenton to ben salem. this right off interstate 276 is unusually quiet for a sunday night. >> we've had a lot of people that have come in, you know, questioning how to get back home. >> reporter: just a few hiels west on the interstate at the turnpike bridge is shut down in both directions for emergency repairs. on friday, inspectors found this fracture in a truck. work continues to stable use the trust and sfaesz there's any other structural issues. it's forcing drivers like raheem growth to detour.

>> i'll just alternate route. >> reporter: the 42,000 vehicles will be doing the same thing. heavy traffic is expected on the few alternate routes, including the burlington bridge starting monday morning. >> i'm leaving early. about 45 minutes to a half hour early. >> reporter: on second thought, he's considering different options to get to work. 42,000 cars have to go someplace else. >> well then, i guess i'll see 42,000 people on the train. >> reporter: actually the turnpike authorities are advising drivers to maybe park their cars and use public transportation or try to car pool or even try to work from home. unfortunately there is no time line right now on when the bridge will reopen. reporting live, nbc 10 news. well drivers have already had to deal with traffic delays on route one and i-95 in bucks county and mercier county. five area bridge crossings are

expected to be jammed. the trenton bridge has got a falls bridge, lower trenton, calhoun, and the washington crossing bridge. expect major problems on the bridges and roads tomorrow. nbc 10 first alert traffic reporter jessica will give you a ride around the detours starting at 4:00 a.m. new at 11:00, problems for united airlines and their passengers. this is a live look at philadelphia international airport. a consumer outage grounded all united flights across the country for about two hours tonight. the i.t. problem started at 7:00 in the united got everything fixed by 9:00. there's no word how many flights were impacted. also new at 11:00, samsung says batteries are to blame for the galaxy note 7 phones overheating and catching fire. the announcement comes three months after the flagship phone was discontinued. the smart phone maker originally blamed lithium batteries from a supplier. now they say it was problems

with the design and manufacturing of their batteries. well it was a contentious second day of donald trump's presidency. as the white house continued to defend press secretary sean spicer's comments about the inauguration crowd being the largest in history. >> you're saying it's a falsehood and they're giving -- sean spicer, our press secretary gave alternative facts to that. >> and that was trump advisor kellyanne conway this morning on msnbc's "meet the press". conway went on to say it wasn't possible to count the crowd and there's no way to prove the number one way or another. aerial photos released friday show mr. trump drew a smaller crowd to his inaugural address than president obama did. conway also revealed president trump will not release his tax returns, breaking a promise he made during the campaign. as a candidate, president trump say he released the return after an irs audit was complete. every president since 1976 has

only a few days left of freedom. he must trort prison on wednesday to start serving his ten year prison sentence. the former long-term pennsylvania congressman is appealing the conviction. a jury found him guilty of money laundering, bribery, and fraud. new at 11:00, murder mayhem inside a mall. a robbery in texas left one man

dead and five others injured. two men robbed a jewelry store in san antonio mall and as they ran out, a man tried to stop them. police say one of the thieves shot and killed that man. another shopper pulled out his own gun and shot one of the suspects. now as the second robber left the mall, he shot and injured two women. well tonight, madonna is saying her words at the women's march in washington were taken wildly out of context. >> i have thought an awful lot about blowing up the white house. >> the singer spoke to a crowd firing them up with a couple swear words. she said it was all taken out of context. she writes, i am not a violent person, i do not promote violence and it's important people hear and understand my speech. in it's entirely rather than one phrase taken wildly out of context. you can go to nbc10.com if you want to watch more of madonna's speech from the women's march

yesterday. just type madonna in the search bar and then look for the story. saturday's women's march brought out near record riders on d.c.'s metro rail. there were more than a million trips on the train. the only day ridership was higher was on january 20, 2009, president obama's first inauguration. washington, d.c.'s deputy mayor says more than 500,000 people attended the women's march. and now back to our first alert weather. this is a live look down the shore in the county tonight. the wind gusts could get to strong there could be some beach erosion at the jersey shore. nbc 10 first alert meteorologist erica martin is tracking that rain coming through that region in your neighborhood, erica. >> that's right. so right now we have so many concerns about this nor'easter that's developing. right now storm ranger 10 is in belmar. this is exclusive to nbc 10. this is a dual poll system. we can actually scan the atmosphere in the vertical and

horizontal. if you'll thois here, this is an exclusive image you're getting. you're seeing essentially an onshore flow. so easterly, southeasterly push on some rain showers moving on through. a wider perspective shows you it's a weak offshore low and as we zoom out wider, we do have a low that will also start to move in developing over the appalachians, that's headed in this direction, all of that energy. let's zoom in closer. we're seeing rain moving through the area right now. certainly not a washout, but we are seeing some rain scattered at best moving in from the southeast and back. and this is what storm ranger 10 is picking up right now. so again, right now it is in belmar. we're going to go ahead and focus on what we can expect along the jersey shore. so right now, temperatures are mild in fact above normal. current temperature, 48 degrees, may's landing, 47, the township, mid to upper 40s for you, atlantic city, 47, and upper

township currently at 48 degrees. current winds that we've been talking about this story with this nor'easter. the wind speeds and wind gusts will start to pick up overnight into tomorrow. so take a look right now. we're already seeing east, northeasterly pushing northeasterly 20 mile per hour winds for atlantic city, wildwood, 26 mile per hour wind speeds for you, trenton, 21, 18 for wilmington, and philadelphia, we're talking about sustained wind speeds at 16 miles per hour. high tide, this is the issue especially for the shore. we're talking about the beach seeing high tide at 4:13 a.m. and 4:24 p.m., seas anywhere between four to six feet. this is one of my bigger concerns. cape may, 17 feet. and it looks like we have atlantic city with speeds between 10 to 15 feet. we have high tide at 4:03 a.m. and 4:20 p.m. the issue is we have those strong easterly winds all of

that water pushing towards inland, towards the shore and not getting back out. that's a huge problem. and that's certainly could lead to beach erosion. now hour by hour forecast starting this at 5:30 a.m. you'll go ahead and start early tomorrow morning. we're seeing the strong wind gusts anywhere between 30, 40 miles per hour, but as we get this going and pause this at 9:00 a.m., already seeing easterly at 50 miles per hour for beach haven, atlantic city, ocean city, 51 for you along with wildwood and the beach, milville also seeing strong wind gusts there. 3:00 p.m., 63 mile per hour wind speeds. i've got to tell you, i do think this is liberal. 65, probably 67 mile per hour wind gusts for you. and westchester, 48 miles per hour, wind speed. our by hour forecast starting this at 11:00 p.m., i want to show you the rain that's headed our way because right now, we're seeing scattered showers on the approach here. we can see those clouds already developing. so lots. clouds right now, big stack of

clouds beneath them. fog of course, visibility is an issue. i don't expect fog to be an issue longer. as the wind gusts pick up, the fok of course will start to mix out. but question see that the heavier rain gets here for the afternoon and evening commute. this is 2:30 p.m. widespread rain and those wind gusts start to pick up really, really wildly. so dangerous conditions especially for the afternoon and evening commute back home. flooding, coastal flooding, and then some possible power outages with trees coming down. >> downed trees could be an issue. we have saturated soil and power outages likely. >> okay. all right, erica, thank you very much. now let's turn it over to danny with the sports. >> hey denise, thank you. the flyers first game out of their bye left a sewer taste in their mouths. 4-1 loss to the devils last night. see if the orange and black bounced back against the islanders in brooklyn. highlights, next.

ready to bring with you tomorrow. we are tracking what's headed our way. thanks for staying up late with us tonight. and tonight on the move and at the jersey shore. we track that nor'easter. it gives you the most accurate forecast with a radar that updates every minute. first alert meteorologist erica martin is here now with your hour by hour forecast, erica. >> that's right, denise, it gives you the most accurate scan of the atmosphere. it does move 360 degrees and scans it in about 20 levels in the atmosphere within seconds. what you're seeing right now are returns moving in from the east, southeast. we have a weak low just offshore. conditions right now are just pretty much rainy. we're seeing light rain moving into the viewing area. wider look here however notice that we are seeing some showers moving in from the southeast towards the northwest across philadelphia. we're getting some light reports of some rain showers also that dense fog, but keep in mind,

folks, that as the winds pick up and we see those wind gusts increase through the overnight hours, the fog will start to mix out or dissipate. storm ranger 10 is accurate and really just exclutive to us here at nbc 10 and you can follow us on social media. i think storm ranger 10 actually has a twitter handle. hour by hour forecast at 11:30 a.m. notice you're seeing the rain moving in from the southeast but also from the south and southwest. and that's because there's a massive low developing. that's going to merge with the system. that's really going to be the weather maker overnight tonight into early tomorrow and we pause in just after lunchtime. really heavy greens here. widespread and some yellows for atlantic city. cape may county seeing heavier downpours just, after lunchtime. 3:30 p.m. a change over here. the valley will see some sleet,

winter storm watch issued for south pocono region and notice we're seeing chester county, delaware county, new castle, cape and may county, atlanta county, pretty much everybody seeing heavy pockets of downpours. next up we're going to talk about the increasing wind speeds and wind gusts and of course high tide. denise, back to you. >> thanks erica. randy gyllenhaal has spent all night at the jersey shore. >> reporter: people are keeping their eyes on the ocean as well as the back bay because the big concern is that tidal flooding, especially late in the afternoon tomorrow we're already seeing some of the winds picking up as we zoom in. also a light misty rain right now in summer's point. tomorrow you could see the heavy wind gusts, maybe up to 60 miles per hour that could lead to tidal and coastal flooding up and down the shore. already we found businesses in stone harbor getting ready, putting sandbags down in front of a local fudge shop there.

this is along third avenue which is pretty prone to that coastal flooding. exactly one year ago, stone harbor was hit with major floods during a very similar nor'easter. most don't think tomorrow is going to be that bad. they are preparing just in case. the coast guard warning to secure their vessels. fisherman to be careful over the next couple days. atlanta city electric is telling residents we could see power outages if trees fall, especially with the heavy winds. they say they have added extra crews tomorrow, in addition to that late afternoon high tide. we're also watching and early morning tide between 4:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. tomorrow. that could post problems especially if these winds keep picking up. tomorrow now live with randy gyllenhaal. nbc 10 news. >> thanksgiving randy. key you covered tomorrow. we're bringing our team in early so you're prepared for the weather. watch nbc 10 news today, tomorrow morning, half hour early starting at 4:00 a.m.

at least 18 people are dead after a tornado ripped through parts of the southeast. this is a look at dr the def nation. 14 of the victims are from today's georgia. georgia man is back in custody after he escaped in handcuffs at the jersey shore. daniel newman was arrested saturday night for stealing and on the way to jail, he ran off, still handcuffed, into some woods. 12 hours later, police found him at a mcdonald's at a mall in may's landing. police are looking for three masked men who broke into a home in southwest philadelphia, bound a woman with zip ties and pistol whipped a man. it happened early sunday on the 6 had 00 block of gar monday street. the gunman took a safe from the house and got away with cash.

accused of stabbing his grandmother to death. it happened yesterday in the east wick section. police say the 70-year-old victim was stabbed multiple times inside a home on cesar place. new at 11:00, the puerto rican community celebrated tonight the presidential pardon granted by president obama last week. oscar lopez rivera was known as the latin american nelson mandela, and tonight, we talked to people who helped lopez get a sentence commuted. >> reporter: the joy hard to contain for leaders in the puerto rican community. for 35 years, they stood in solidarity with organizations and effort to cross the country, pushing for the release of political prisoner oscar lopez rivera. >> we were in washington, d.c. a week ago, submitted 100,000 petitions to the white house. >> reporter: the sentence was commuted last week just days before president obama left

office. in 1981, the political prisoner was convicted on weapons and conspiracy charges including attempting to overthrow the government by force. lopez was accused of being the leader of a puerto rican nationalist group that took responsibility for fatal bombings in chicago and new york in the 1970s and '80s. no evidence linked lopez to the bombing. >> oscar was not charged with any crime against any person. he was charged with an idea crime which is the idea that we should be -- >> reporter: it made him a national hero. >> he's somebody that like i said, we compare him to nelson mandela. >> reporter: and likemen dell la, they hope the release unifies if a fractured puerto rico, the way his imprisonment has. >> we need him now more than ever. >> reporter: nbc 10 news. identity theft charges for wilmington care takers is

right now, we're seeing them shift northeasterly and we're talking about one of the big stories here for this nor'easter, being the impact of the wind. we're talking about the same wind speeds right now for wildwood, 26 miles per hour, atlanta city, 22, trenton, 21, milville andwomening torn, 18 mile per hour wind speeds. you don't forget to look at the bottom of your screen for your local neighborhood forecast. storm ranger 10, hanging out in belmar, i want to show you a wider perspective. i'm going to zoom in just one moment. work with me here. this is a system that's developing across the appalachian. this is a strong system heading in our direction. we have a weak offshore low. these two systems will essentially merge notice we're seeing a little bit of a southeasterly push here of some rain. already getting some reports of light rain, of course fog right now as well. but all of that dissipating as those wind speeds and wind gusts start to kick up. here it is, storm ranger 10 exclusive to nbc 10.

don't forget to follow it on twitter. it has a storm range handle. right now hanging out in bell mash. the showers moving in from the southeast towards the northwest. starting at 11:30 p.m., getting this going through early tomorrow morning, i don't see your commute being an issue, but be prepared because your monday afternoon and monday evening commutes certainly will be 6:00 a.m., the introduction of that system pretty much moving in from the south and southwest up into the area here. notice just after lunchtime, we'ring heavy pockets of downpours for much of the viewing area. then by 4:00 p.m., not only are we seeing widespread rain and having pockets of downpours, we're also seeing a change overfor the lehigh valley and we have a storm watch that has been issued for the area. we're seeing sleet here, heavy pockets of downpour and red for atlantic county, cape may county

seeing lots of heavy rain across the area. philadelphia county as well. so nobody's going to be excluded from this system. as it continues to work it's way towards the northeast at 11:00 p.m. tomorrow, we're still seeing heavy rain, clear iing northeast, but we're not done yet. still, we're going to see more rain moving from west to east and everything clears. i say by about 11:00 a.m. on tuesday, certainly by noon. so hour by hour as far as wind gusts are concerned, already seeing those wind speeds picking up, wind gusts tonight into early tomorrow morning. start to kick up quite a bit and this is when it starts to get really dangerous, especially the damaging wind speeds and wind gusts. 41 mile per hour wind gusts at 4:00 a.m. tomorrow for atlantic city and keep this going. notice they increase into the 50s and 60s. i think we'll see 60 plus for atlantic city, beach haven, possibly ocean city and wildwood as well. and then they it starts to diminish late monday into tuesday.

still a tlot talk about in the final forecast. >> yes, there's a lot. we were tracking a nor'easter. we're tracking this weak coast tallow that's bringing us some lake showers to the area. but i want to go ahead and go over these bultd points with you. we're tracking this nor'easter for the entire viewing area, denise, nobody's excluded, overnight through tuesday morning, that's when it clears. we can expect heavy rains, downed trees likely. power outages, i'd be surprised if we don't get any. coastal flooding and the possibility of beach erosion. those really strong easterly gusts, easterly winds, especially for tomorrow, late morning, early afternoon hours, and this is pretty sobering here. look at these hour by hour wind gusts at about 3:00 been 3:30 p.m., 63 mile per hour wind gusts out of the east for atlantic city. those are really strong winds. and very dangerous. >> turn the umbrella the other direction.
