now. >> getting the wind right now. take a look at this view from center city. the flag is blowing. the winds are just getting started right now. already seeing heavy wind gusts in the area. why we've issued a first alert for our area for the entire area through tomorrow morning. and it looks like we're in for periods of heavy rain fall. damaging winds: lead to down trees and power outages. at the coast, that's where we're going to see strongest wind. coastal flooding and beach erosion count on it with this storm. wind gusts already at 32 miles an hour in philadelphia. 33 mile an hour in wilmington and at the shore hitting 40 miles an hour atlantic city. tropical storm force wind gust. that's just the first part of the storm system. the other is the wind and the rain. the rain we're in for heavy periods of rain at times. meteorologist is stopping by with a look at that. >> that's going be later today start tracking the heavy pockets of rain come in.

not looking at too much yet. tracking an increase in those showers as we move along the later part of today and even into this evening. here's a look at radar and sad lite currently. green moving through. watching yesterday seen us showing off future model saying morning hours just going to be wet roadways lighter showers picking up. seeing currently along the jersey shore. atlantic county, ocean county, monmouth county. toms river, not anything going to stop your commute this morning. the bigger concern are the winds this morning already started to crank up. we pull this thing out quite a bit and look at this system. this heavy rain is not going to be affecting us as it moves offshore here. look at the activity heading our direction. yellows, oranges, reds. heavier rain. going to take a while to get to us. not talking until the later part of today and tonight. now is if timeline. now to one in the afternoon.

lighter rain and increasing winds. one this afternoon through this evening pockets of heavier rain and stronger winds pick up. that will last into overnight with area downpours and still windy conditions. tuesday morning things start to get better. time that out in a few minutes. right now, go to traffic with jessica boyington. >> we are starting off with major breaking news this morning. major closure, the new jersey turnpike and pa turnpike connecter bridge in both direction asis closed this morng for structural repair. big delay there. we will be seeing a big delay because of that considering it's closed indefinitely now. get around the scene, take the burlington bristol bridge. anywhere to get out of new jersey and pennsylvania, those bridges in the area, burlington bristol is the closest and we'll watch that for you for the morning to make sure and check on any openings. northeast philadelphia, watch for a crash on route 1 northbound just around conley

road. we'll end on the vine street expressway, we are open in both directions. leave with you with a good thing here. vine around 24th street east and westbound no problems. tracking weather means we're tracking possible flight delays at philadelphia international. live look at airport rain and fog have delayed flights. that happened about an hourly yesterday. be sure to check the status of your flight before you head to airport. we're also checking for power outages today. scattered outages. utility crews are bracing for a rough day. wind gusts could reach 60 miles an hour. some utility companies have brought in extra workers for early morning and daytime hours. 4:04 and 44 degrees at the jersey shore. high tied de is rolling in. people spent yesterday preparing for potential flooding there. this morning keeping an eye on the coast. ted greenburg live in cape may

county. ted, what are you seeing. >> reporter: you heard bill talk a couple minutes ago about that beach erosion and how likely that's going be and you can see exactly why. we're at the north end of north wildwood and check out that surf. being driven here into the coastline by those winds right off the ocean, you can see the ocean is crashing here up onto the rocks. almost to the sea away where we're stabbeding at second after. this high tide is happening now along the ocean front. it will be happening in about an hour or so from now along the back bays and that's when we could see and are expecting to see minor tidal flooding along the back bays. more likely we'll see more widespread tidal flooding during this afternoon's high tide in about 12 hours from now. major things we're going to be seeing today, probably more significant than the flooding is going to be the wind. and wind gusts here along the

and congestion because of the closure of this bridge. we are underneath it right now. on the pennsylvania side. 42,000 vehicles typically go over this bridge every day. now have have to go another way. the warnings are there the bridge is closed. it's been since friday when a crack was discovered in a tress. work is still going to stabilize the bridge. little quiet at the moment, but people and drivers who work around the turnpike are bracing for what may come with this commute. >> just pointing out in different directions. tell them go four and a half miles that way or go down to 295. see what happens the next couple of days. >> i always find alternate roots. i don't think it will affect me. i'll just find an alternate route. maybe people don't drive. take the train or the bus. >> now, we've been showing this

all weekend. take a look. these are the alternate routes. coming from michael wacpennsylv going to new jersey exit at ben salem. follow route 1 to i 95 and 295 and 195195. all these at nbc.com and nbc app. take a live look here. big problem this morning is going to be extra congestion couple that with weather. talking with drivers the past couple of days that take other bridges. they are concerned that those bridges are going to g backed up as a result. that's what turnpike authorities are talking about here. you have to plan ahead. we're going to be following this throughout the morning. for now i'm live, nbc 10 news. 4:08. let's talk more there's not many ways around the detour so just plan for it. that is part of the problem

here. no matter what way you swing it this morning, you're probably going to be late to wherever you have to go. a big big closure. the new jersey turnpike and pa turnpike east and west directions closed right now because of structural roadway pairs. if you're just tuning in and catching the tend of that. closed through the entire morning rush and for a little bit of time as well. big delays when all of these cars can get off. can't exit from the new jersey. burlington bristol bridge coming from new jersey great alternate for you there. that's open. we have to be on standby for scheduled openings for the burlington bristol bridge. keep my i eye on that for you. saw some of the other alternates listed. route one. exit off at ben salem. we don't see delays yet on the pa turnpike in other r either direction. keep eye on that for you. for now that's cloelsed and not

one of the high tides occurring now for the jersey coastline and delaware beaches. next one this afternoon. through the day strong winds. looks like the strongest winds will be around during the afternoon, however. 44 degrees. 21-mile-an-hour winds in philadelphia. that's the steady wind. getting higher gust which is the winds will be evaluated right on through the morning and afternoon as well. the good news here is the temperatures are growing to stay in the 40s all day long. what rain we get with the storm will only be rain. suburbs, 43 degrees rights now. the wind strong out of the northeast. the nor'easter bringing down heavy wind gusts and heavy downpours starting at noon and into the afternoon hours. and for the lehigh valley, you're not out of this either. 45 degrees right now into the 30s this afternoon. temperatures dropping with those strong north easterly winds. 21 mile an hour winds at noontime. the gusts will be higher than that. n new jersey, we've seen a few

rain showers this morning. more likely the rain comes in this afternoon. the temperatures hold steady and winds stay with us through the day. strongest winds at the shore. 38-mile-an-hour winds at 10:00 this morning. 36 at noontime. those are the steady winds: wind gusts as high as 50-mile-an-hour or above at the shore. that alone can cause damage bringing down branches and possibly trees leading to power outages. that's not out of the outagouta wind and rain and potential for some frozen precipitation with the storm. 12 minutes past four. super bowl li is set. >> seeking confirmation from the senate. tell you about the boost

gusty winds and those will be increasing later this morning and afternoon as well. look at the flag holding on in center city. the temperatures are not bad at all. as you mentioned we're in the 40s right now for lehigh valley, suburbs, delaware, 44 degrees in philadelphia. south jersey is seeing rain at the shore. that's where we're getting the strongest wind gust. temperatures hold accident in the 40s. temperatures not a problem. wind is a different story. topping 30-mile-an-hour in the philadelphia and at 40-mile-an-hour at the shore, these are expected to top 50-mile-an-hour during the day today and we'll see some of those stronger gusts move into philadelphia and even into lehigh valley and some of the suburbs as well. a windy day all around. not much in the way of rain. here's your hour by hour. for wind speed. 34 in philadelphia, but near

50-mile-an-hour in dover. strong winds get a bit stronger at 12:30 this afternoon. 50-mile-an-hour wind gusts for wildwood. elevated wind gusts for millville and dover. 55-mile-an-hour wind gusts. trenton topping 40-mile-an-hour. going to late afternoon, that's the next high tide at the shore, winds won't be quite as strong, but still elevated. still expect to see minor flooding at the shore. the winds inland are still strong near 40-mile-an-hour in philadelphia and topping 40-mile-an-hour in fretrenton. add rain and make matters even worse. that's what meteorologist crystal is tracking this morning. keep a close eye on radar currently and take a comparison to what we expect later today. see a big difference here. start off by looking a lot radar and satellite map. not a lot of rain we're tracking. looking at ground observations. lighter rain picking up along

our joerm points. right now focused over ocean county and starting to creep north ward here. starting to move to monmouth county as well. further inland and right now it's pretty dry. roads are wet. it's hazy out there because of fog we've been seeing the last couple of days. plenty of moisture at the surface to tap into. right now the only showers atlantic city up past toms river. that's what we're looking at currently. what we will be seeing. hour by hour forecast. clouds as we sit currently. later in the morning by 6:00 a.m., start to see some showers pop up. i think this model is going aggressive with court and juthe breakings apart here. goes through 9:00 a.m. periods through the morning where you don't have rain falling. this will be in out scattered showers again light to moderate. get into the afternoon. now we start to see heavier rain. yellows and oranges passing through. that passes right through

philadelphia. and covers a lot of south jersey as we get into the evening. 5:00 p.m. this starts to clear out heavier rain. we could still see pockets of heavier rain through midnight to tomorrow morning. lingering lighter showers going to hang around our region. we will start to clear things out as we get later into the day on tuesday. talk more about potential rain totals coming up in next half hour. >> 20 minutes past 4:00 on this monday. if anybody travels to and from burlington and bucks counties, they're going to have a tough go. >> new commute for the next couple of weeks. first alert traffic reporter jessica boyington has what you need to know. >> really no easy way to get around this. pretty much adding more time to you morning commute no matter what across the board. this closure is the new jersey turnpike and pennsylvania turnpike. bridge closed right now. see that strip of red right

24 minutes past 4:00. we're expected to learn more about racism and discrimination in the city's lgbt community. the philadelphia commission on human relations is releasing a report today comes after a pling hearing was held on the issue in october. this morning, former harrisburg mayor steve reid is back in court after investigators retrieved wild west art facts in his office. allegedly spent public money to buy nearly 10,000 artifacts. all part of a plan to build a wild west museum in harrisburg,

>> the wind is blowing. first alert for nor'easter for entire area. through the day today, through tomorrow morning. that's when we're going to see periods of heavy rain and damaging winds. the rain hasn't started yet. the wind have started to pick up. that can lead to down trees which can lead to power outages. high tides and coastal flooding and beach erosion with the storm system. strong winds get stronger as the morning progresses through the afternoon hours. plenty strong right now. 32-mile-an-hour wind gusts at philadelphia. 33-mile-an-hour at wilmington. look at the shore. wiemdwood has 39-mile-an-hour wind gusts. just a little bit stronger in atlantic city. those are the wind driving the water closer to the shore. and creating tooids that could cause minor flooding first thing this morning morning. wind gusts expect them to get stronger. 8:00 this morning. get to 10:00 this morning, could see 50-mile-an-hour wind gusts
