multiple times over the weekend. search and rescue crews are searching for survivors. all this as georgia's governor has declared a state of emergency. >> there it is. >> reporter: this morning, shock across the south, after another deadly round of relentless storms cut a path of destruction across several states. >> dude, i think that's a tornado. >> reporter: this tornado near albany, georgia, left stunned residents overnight. >> i was almost in a trans. we went into the closet. we could hear trees and stuff falling. >> it is unfathomable what happened out there. you literally have a trailer park that looks like it's been disintegrated. >> reporter: from the air, drone footage shows how another storm sliced through a mobile home park, killing seven in adel, georgia. >> we have to get the boys inside the bathroom now. he went back out because he heard a little girl yelling.

our neighbor's granddaughter had gotten thrown from her trailer and into our yard. >> reporter: for those with nothing left, churches have become makeshift shelters. this man had just moved into his home a day before the chaos. >> the whole house started shaking. 30 seconds later, everything was gone. the whole trailer park was demolished. >> reporter: the deadly weekend started saturday? hattiesburg, mississippi, where four people were killed. >> the doorway and the hall. we were sitting right there when it hit us. >> reporter: in louisiana, one of several tornadoes caught on video. and in east texas today, a cleanup effort is also under way. but it's georgia that's now reeling from its deadliest severe weather in six years. >> it was just terrible. it was awful. >> reporter: carla's home collapsed around her, as her husband scrambled to pull their daughter to safety. >> it's devastating. our clothes. our pictures. my son and his wife's bridal

portrait. our daughter's senior portrait. it's hard to take it all in. >> reporter: for the first time in two years, the national weather service had issued that rare high-risk advisory for several southern states. and for the first time since taking office, as consoler in chief, donald trump has called georgia's governor and pledged his support to help the state recover. >> thank you very much. a powerful nor'easter is just getting under way that will bring damaging winds and heavy rains to millions. morgan rafford is in new jersey. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. that monday morning commute is turning out to be tricky for places in connecticut and new york and here in new jersey, where we expect to see coastal flooding, as that nor'easter packs a punch. rains of three inches and the heavy, wet snow. winds as you can see up to 60 miles per hour. when they're blowing this hard,

that can cause downed trees, downed power lines. that's why new york's governor is asking people to stay inside, unless travel is necessary. we've seen some of the ferries between new york and new jersey canceled. new york city is under a high wind watch. flood advisories along the coast of new jersey, where some schools have been canceled for the day. that's why experts are asking people to make sure they charge their cell phone, charge their batteries, stock up on food and water. and turn the temperature down in the freezers to make sure that the food can stay preserved because this storm is expected to lost until tomorrow. >> those winds whipping you around there. morgan radford, thank you very much. >> it's hard to get an idea because we're sheltered by the buildings. but it's blowing outside. >> we're starting to see the rain make its way up into this as part of the storm system. but the big problem, the winds. 26 million people affected.

airport delays. and a big problem from d.c. all the way up to boston. right now, gusts of 31 at montauk. 40 at atlantic city. and the wind gusts will reach tropical force to hurricane-force winds, as the system makes its way up the coast on into tuesday morning. so, the airport delays will continue right on into tomorrow. plus, we've got to rain along the coast, heavy rain, strong wind inland. snow and freezing rain is going to be a big problem, making its way into new england by tuesday. rainfall amounts anywhere from two to three inches locally. could be five inches. flood watches from new york to boston. if you have high-profile vehicles, you're going to have problems with the winds, as well. airport problems. for the next 48 hours it will be a tough go on the roads and in the air. >> stay inside, if you can. now, to politics and the start of president donald trump's first full week in office. controversy is facing the new administration, including a lawsuit being filed today,

alleging the president's business interests violates the constitution. our political team has in depth coverage, beginning with hallie jackson at the white house. hallie, good morning. >> reporter: hi, natalie. good morning to you. and this morning, that lawsuit is set to be filed in district court in new york, on the first full weekday of the trump administration. the president's team has maintained his business ties don't present a conflict of interest. but those now suing the president say it is not at all that clear-cut. less than 72 hours after promising to uphold the constitution -- president trump getting sued, accused of violating it. that's the argument made today, by a group of hours and ethics experts, some with democratic ties, who says the president is breaking the clause that prohibits government officials from accepting any present,

emolument, from any king, prince or foreign state. it means no gifts from foreign governments. but the suit claims that the president is getting just that. leases by foreign-owned entities in trump tower. bookings at his newest hotel in washington. other hotel stays, leases and transactions, tied to foreign governments at places owned or licensed by donald trump. and payments from foreign-owned broadcasters. >> we're concerned that the president has not addressed this problem. and we believe it's time for the courts to do so. >> reporter: an administration aide tells nbc news, the president has no conflicts. the attorney advising him, preemptively brushing off criticism at a news conference this month. >> this is not what the constitution says. paying if for a hotel room is not a gift or a present. it's not an e emolument.

>> reporter: their argument? they believe it does not apply to fair value exchanges. even so, they say president trump will voluntarily donate profits from foreign governments who stay at his hotel, to the u.s. treasury. >> this way, the american people profit. >> reporter: but the president's critics call that lip service, insisting he is not doing enough to make sure the people can trust him to do what's best for the nation and not simply what's best for his business. part of the goal of this lawsuit is to force president trump's hand on his tax returns, which could illuminate any potential confli conflicts. 74% of americans should think the president should release those returns, including 49% of his own supporters. matt? natalie? >> hallie, thank you very much. let's bring in ari melber. the first thing the judge has to figure out is if the people

bringing the suit are harmed by the situation or if they're a group trying to gain something. >> there is case law on this. i reviewed this filing embargo. and it points to precedent in the supreme court. but large organizations like this, they're an ethics group, that have more trouble than a business competitor or someone that can show direct harm. >> assuming this moves forward, what's the end game here? >> they're not asking for money. they're not trying to send anyone to jail. they're asking for a judge to clarify something that's never been tested. we've never had a president with these kinds of holdings. saying what is a gift you can't take. and forcing the president to stop that business. >> but hallie just brought up tax returns. is this a smokescreen? is this a way to get into evidence released tax returns from president trump? >> if this suit moves forward, what they will be ask for is anything to actually show what we, the public, and journalists

have never seen, which is the full extent of the business. you would look for tax returns, which is a big one and a political story, as well. business records and something we've talked about before, who does the trump organization and donald trump owe money to? because if he were to get preferential treatment on a loan, that could be a gift under the constitution. it's asking the judge to define all that and stop it if it is a gift. >> ari, thank you very much. there's more on the president's plate today, including a series of meetings with top lawmakers. this, after a weekend that saw his team engage in heated exchanges with the media. and massive rallies all across the country. nbc national correspondent, peter alexander, has that part of the story. good morning to you. >> reporter: matt, good morning to you. the contentious statement from the new press secretary happened in the briefing room. on sunday, president trump was more measured in his tone. he has a full day one on tap today. signing executive orders,

weekend? >> some good moments, completely overshadowed by the worst instincts of donald trump and the people around him. he's going to run a different presidency. he's not going to be an establishment president. but the things they did, the falsehoods from the white house podium, himself from the cia, are things that must be corrected for himself, and the world. the presidency cannot be based on petty lies. >> the faighting over the facts. and now, a new term, alternative facts. they're part of a bigger problem, aren't they? they're about quantity and judging scope of enthusiasm and ratings and polling. there is an inherent insecurity in this, isn't there? >> donald trump, we've seen it throughout his career. he's obsessed with how he comes across. it's fine in a presidential candidate. during the transition, it's troubling. in a president, it will be destructive to his agenda if he doesn't understand the reality that he needs to build support,

not defend moments of weakness with lies. >> today begins a day of action, as he's calling it. and he's got to move forward on the promises that he's made to repeal obamacare. and he's meeting with a bipartisan group of lawmakers. what is the goal here if he's trying to bring the democrats into the fold. >> as troubling as some of the things over the weekend were, we've seen things get off to slow starts. bill clinton's administration had the same kind of problems, getting distracted on small things. today is a day, the first full weekday, he can focus on things. changing the way health care is going to be administered by the government. thinking of building a bipartisan coalition. he attacked the marchers over the weekend, he sent a horrible message, if he wants to be the president for everyone. today is the day when he can build on the second tweet peter cited, where he said people have a right to protest. >> newt gingrich chimed in and said if he keeps us safe for the

because at hellmann's, we're on the side of food. we have issued a first alert for the having rain, high winds and threat of flooding across our area. this is a look at north wildwood where the rough stir has been spilling on to the streets. let's get the latest from bill henley. he has the most accurate forecast in the region. seeing strong gusty winds across the entire area. look at the view from philadelphia. flag on top of the building will blowing and winds topped 40 miles an hour. 45-mile-an-hour wind gusts being reported in wildwood. not just along the shore, look at coastal with 49-mile-an-hour wind gusts. a strong winds will get stronger this morning. and then, we're going to see heavier rain move in. for now, it is to the south. moving our way. so a wet and windy day ahead.

tax season officially under way. the irs is accepting returns and processing paper ones. this year's filing deadline is tuesday, april 18th. the 15th falls on a saturday and the 17th is a holiday in washington. >> a couple of extra days to get them done. and the match-up for super bowl li is all set. the new england patriots, once again, versus the atlanta falcons. tom brady threw for three touchdowns in a 36-17 win over the pittsburgh steelers. matt ryan tossed four t.d.s and ran for another, as the falcons beat the packers, 44-21. the super bowl is now february 5th in houston. it will be a good one. tom brady's seventh super bowl. >> good news if you're a patriots' fan or a falcons' fan. the white house says this is going to be a day of action, with president trump poised to sign executive orders to begin his first full week in the white

house. nbc's kristen welker is there. kristen, good morning. >> reporter: matt, good morning to you. a white house official tells nbc news, as early as today, president trump will sign executive orders to break decades of trade policy. trump says it will benefit american workers. but critics counter it could have unintended consequences. president trump putting the focus on trade as he begins his first full week in office. >> we're going to start negotiations, having to do with nafta. anybody hear of nafta? i ran a campaign somewhat based on nafta. >> reporter: a white house official tells nbc news, as early as today, president trump will announce his intention to renegotiate nafta, a trade deal with mexico and canada, that trump says favors trade over u.s. workers. another will call for pulling out of the transpacific partnership, a multinational

trade agreement, championed by president obama but never approved by congress. mr. trump will then task his top economic and trade advisers to renegotiate trade deals with each of the country's involved in tpp. candidate trump won over working class voters, in part, based on his promise to get better trade deals. >> we will withdraw from the transpacific partnership. we're going to renegotiate the worse trade deal ever made anywhere in the world at anytime, nafta. >> reporter: but free trade proponents argue ripping up the existing trade deals could lead to higher prices in the u.s. and less demand for american goods abroad. a white house official tells nbc news, national security, jobs and immigration are the focus. mr. trump pressed whether the immigration actions will undo the obama executive actions to defer the deportation of 700,000 young people who were brought to the u.s. as children.

what's fake? this morning, wait until you see who falls for it. there are new scams happening right now. in this one, hackers are targeting netflix users. sending fake e-mails that look like they came directly from the company. asking you to update your billing address, credit card information, even your social security number. it looks so real, unsuspecting customers are handing over everything. and now, another one bubbling up. this new scam aimed at gmail users. the e-mail looks like it came from a friend. you click the attachment, it asks you to log back into your account. the hackers watching your key strokes and stealing your information. and for the hackers, it's easy. >> i'm creating fake e-mail. >> reporter: right now, this one is sending e-mails, trying to trick people. luckily, this hacker is working with us. jim stickley, a cyber security expert.

out with the friends, you want to curl up and watch "law & order." >> with cheetos. don't tell joy. she will get mad at me. i love her idea. she says take your commitments, if you're over extended. write down what you have to do every day. you have to come to work. you have to feed the kids, go to the grocery store, walk the dog. when you add another commitment, you have to subtract one. get your husband to walk the dog because you have to do "x." if you have to bake cookies -- instead of piling on so your list is so long, you're drowning. that's helping a lot. >> we get wound up about things. and if you stop and say, do i have control over that? and if it's no, get rid of it. >> the trash room and the god rooms are big rooms. once you get that out of the way, you have clear sailing to do things you want to do. >> and the pouch is a lifesaver.

like you've been on a dead sprint since you've been back. what has life been like? give me a capsule post-olympics. >> it's been a giant whirlwind. lots of media and different, new experiences that i would never have experienced a year or two ago. >> was it what you expected? >> i don't know if anyone could have prepared me. >> so many kids look up to you. and they said, i want to be like her. the title, "i got this." where did that originate from? >> i was a little nervous before competing beam at the olympics. and i had, like, this nervous tick to talk to myself. okay, you can do it. you're good. >> i got this. >> and right before i hopped up there, i said, i got this. and i hit a nice routine. and it went viral. >> were you calm? when you stepped up to do your routine, you said, i got this.

did you physically feel calm? or do you have the heart-pounding freaking out thing a little bit? >> i usually have that right before i go on. you want it to be over. and then, right before you get up on the beam, it's like, after saying, i got this, your whole body relaxes. and i was able to think clearly. >> a lot of people would look at you and say, wow. she's 16 years old. hasn't been a speed bump. like life has been amazing for laurie. but we should point out that life, your life hasn't been always so simple. you had injuries. you had issues going through this. how did you get through those? >> well, i -- basically, as a gymnast, everyone knows that injuries come and go between the sport and between seasons. it doesn't matter what time of the year it is. it just happens. mine happened in the middle of the year. i had to get surgery on my knee. and i remember just laying on my couch, like, my knee hurts really bad. this is going to be hard to come back. and my family was like, i

believe in you. >> i fell in love with your entire family at the olympics. and one of my favorite stories in your book is the one about the tissues. will you tell that story? >> yeah. basically before olympic trials, we went out to eat. and i had a little breakdown because practice was really rough. and my routines weren't coming the way i wanted them to. and this pour waitress was bringing over piles of tissues. i was with my dad, my sister and one of my teammates. we were leaving, and my sister said, i'm going to save these tish yesues and give them to he when she makes the team. and we did olympic trials. i made the team. we went out to eat as a family to celebrate the moment. and my sister handed me a goody bag with the tissues in them. you felt you couldn't believe in yourself, we were there for you. it was a really defining moment. >> it's funnel because everyone needs someone to look up to. you saw sean johnshawn j shawn
