a tough commute. >> drew is live in center city with what you need to know. drew? >> reporter: be prepared to see a lot of these road barriers plus there will be a lot of police. if you manage to catch a glimpse of the president, he'll be heading into that hotel and out here where we'll standing is where the protesters will be, many who came out tonight tell me they'll be returning tomorrow. police are on every corner. the protesters have assembled and soon president trump will be in the heart of philadelphia, likely to face a mixed reception. >> i'm happy for the president to come. pretty exciting. >> there's a bunch of people in that building that are trying to take away rights. >> top republicans already arrived for day one of a three-day policy retreat in this hotel. its leaders say they respect the right to protest. >> we are here, we are queer! >> tonight, some people in the lgbt community organized a dance party on market street. >> this is all about love and, like, just having a good time.

even making like a bad situation good again. >> go back to the swamp! >> reporter: this won't be the last protest. permits are approved for tomorrow. road closures begin as the sun comes up on market street from city hall to 11th and parts 126th and 13th. >> it's packed in here already. >> reporter: if you're planning to get through underground, note 13th street station will be closed tomorrow. buses will detour and the main access to jefferson station will be shut. >> we're going to have a bit of a raucous market street tomorrow. >> mayor jim kenny is asking protesters not to cause damage and he insists all people are welcome here. >> i'm excited he's coming and i hope it goes well and smooth and nothing bad happens. >> reporter: it's not just drivers and septa riders that are impacted, anybody who decides to walk down here on market street will have to find another way around. they won't be allowing pedestrians here once the president arrives. live in center city, drew smith,

nbc 10 news. >> time to go to plan "b" for many people, drew. the president will come to philadelphia a day after moving aggressively to tighten the ee nation's immigration control. he signed executive orders to jump start his construction of the wall along the u.s./mexico border and strip federal funding from so-called sanctuary cities. house speaker paul ryan says congress will pay for the initial construction of the wall. tonight the president defended his actions in an interview with abc news news. >> to build the wall we have to stop drugs from pouring in, we have to stop people from just pouring into our country, we have no idea where they're from and i campaigned on the wall and it's very important but that wall will cost us nothing. >> but mexico's president fired back tonight in an address to his nation. enrique pena nieto said mexico will not pay for the wall and mexico doesn't believe in borders. he went on to say president trump's decision to build a wall divides us. philadelphia won't change

its status as a sanctuary city despite the president's order to strip federal funding. we caught up withñ;?ay mayor ji kenny tonight. the mayor restored philadelphia sanctuary city status when he talk office last year. he said it's up to congress not the president to decide federal funding. >> he hasn't specified what that money is, where it's coming from or how much it is. we can't react in anyway until we know what he's talking about. >> sanctuary cities have policies in place to limit cooperation when it comes to federal immigration enforcement. mayor kenney doesn't plan on meeting with president trump tomorrow but says he's willing to sit down with him. president trump isn't the only high-profile person attending the republican retreat tomorrow. uk prime minister theresa may will address the group. she'll be the first world leader to meet with mr. trump during his presidency and today she was asked if she was concerned about his comments about women. this was her response in

parliament. >> i am not afraid to speak frankly to a president of the united states. i am able to do that because we have that special relationship. >> after visiting philadelphia, may will meet with president trump at the white house on friday. former nfl quarterback peyton man willing also be in philadelphia for the republican retreat. he's scheduled to speak with tennessee senator bob corker introducing him. manning played college football at the university of tennessee. turning to our weather now and rain moving in that could arrive in time for the morning commute. >> our first alert meteorologist is tracking the impact. krystal? >> we knew the clouds would change overnight. temperatures haven't dropped much. we're at 46 in philadelphia, cloudy in parts of the suburbs at 48 and same deal for new jersey at 46. we see clouds increasing in

delaware in the lower 40s now. let's look at the radar map. in our area just the clouds are building in but pull this out, scattered showers through central parts of pennsylvania and when you look farther to the southwest you see more strength. that line is moving our direction and as we go through the night into your morning commute that's when the rain will make it to us so we'll take a closer look hour by hour throughout the neighborhoods at when that rain moves through and what the rest of thursday has in store for us. >> all right, krystal. take a look at this. the ground gives way, nearly swallowing a truck and threat threatening multiple homes in she cheltenham. this was the view from sky force 10 a few minutes ago. you can see crews have almost filled the hole up. >> that's not the end of the problem. people who live nearby are being told to boil their water before drinking it. >> nbc 10's brandon hudson is live in the neighborhood. brandon, what's going on right now? >> reporter: jim and jacqueline,

it appears crews are done with this sinkhole. look at the progress they've made since early this evening. you can see from our vantage point where they have filled up that hole. it appears to be stabilize and the truck that was dangling earlier is closer to the home. it's hard to believe last night around this time when these people were going to bed there was two front yards and a driveway. it's been a long night and a long day to homeowners. they woke up to a loud crash, walked outside and saw this massive sinkhole. while crews worked to fill up this massive sinkhole in glenside, neighbors are hit with the reality of using bottled water to drink, brush their teeth and do other household chores. a boil-water advisory is in effect until further notice. tonight we saw people return them brook street with cases and jugs of water. >> i got a lot of water because i'm not trusting the water around here. no way. >> reporter: sky force 10 shows you the best perspective of the sinkhole from this morning.

a driveway and front yards gone, a truck teetering on the edge, homeowners who were inside the house impact eed escaped safely. no one else was hurt, either. >> woke up to helicopters, bright lights, police running around. >> reporter: tom lives two houses down from the hole. unlike some of his neighbors he can return home tonight. >> very relieved, very relieved. we're still fingers crossed nothing else is going to happen. >> reporter: the cause of the sinkhole is under investigation. aqua pennsylvania says earlier a six-inch water main broke which impacted more than 60 homes. service was restored this evening. as the crew poured concrete into the sinkhole to stabilize the ground, neighbors who heard the commotion came to see this unbelievable sight. >> i thought it was the wind. the helicopters, i thought the helicopters were the wind. >> i'm in construction also so i've seen this happen before but not to this magnitude.

>> reporter: coming back live, this house you see is up for sale, no one lives there but we call the name listed on the for sale sign, they didn't get back to us by the time of our deadline. aqua pennsylvania expects that boil-water advisory to last until saturday. live in glenside, brandon hudson, nbc 10 news. tonight, former pennsylvania congressman shaka fattah will spend his first night behind bars and we have a closer look at the facility he could call home for the next decade. fattah spent 20 years in congress before his conviction on racketeering charges last june. a jury found him guilty of taking an illegal million-dollar campaign loan then using government and nonprofit money to repay it. fattah reported to a federal correctional facility in western pennsylvania. he'll spend his time at a low-security satellite camp there complete with two basketball courts and a baseball diamond. here's a look at his cell. there is no door and he will share the area with more than 200 other offenders.

she made millions laugh and inspired a generation of women to succeed. actress mary tyler moore, whose 1970s series helped usher in a new era for women on tv, died today at the age of 80. ♪ you're gonna make it after all ♪ >> that classic scene. the "mary tyler moore show" which debuted in 1970 focused on an unmarried career woman. moore also played spunky laura petri in the early '60s on the dick van dyke show. the actress battled diabetes for decades and worked to bring awareness to the disease. governor chris christie took a pass on endorsing his lieutenant governor to succeed him. on the radio show, the governor said kim gaudagno would do a good job but he's not sure whether she could handle the race. he said it's a tough state to run and she's never done it

before. the lieutenant governor launched her candidacy earlier this month. a record-breaking day on wall street. the dow surged 155 points to close above 20,000 for the first time ever. investors have pushed stocks higher after strong earnings reports and president trump's vow to cut regulations for businesses. a 96-year-old woman is mauled by two dogs in her germantown neighborhood. neighbors say they could hear the woman screaming for help this afternoon. she had bites to her face, head and arms. a neighbor saw the aftermath. >> i put her in the car and then put her in the ambulance and kept her moving. her face was mangled and that was it. >> the woman remains in critical condition tonight. the two pit bulls have been taken away. new at 11:00, a shooting in the middle of a crowded septa terminal sent a man to the hospital. police tell us someone opened fire at the frankford

town 44 allentown at 45. these temperatures may drop a few more degrees throughout the night but not enough to worry about icy spots on roadways. instead you're seeing a broken up line of rain with a cold front, as it moves in it provides us with rain. the clouds are building in, 11:00, seeing the rain getting here in us but not over us. now 5:30 in the morning clipping parts of delaware, passing through harrisburg and right for the morning commute that's when showers pass us. 8:30, you see mostly the clean colors which means light to steady rain and from 8:30 to 11:00 a.m. it moves to the east. we're left with scattered clouds throughout the second half of your day. partly cloudy conditions, maybe an isolated shower further south near cape may. around 2:00 in the afternoon. we should see sunshine in the afternoon as well and with a warm start to temperatures they will still be very nice as we get through the rest of the day. 50s again. 54 in tacony.
