president trump, hundreds of demonstrators that gathered around the hotel at city hall to greet president trump when he arrived. >> it wasn't a warm welcome from most people but it appears the demonstrations were peaceful. our coverage continuewis with randy gyllenhaal. >> reporter: police tell me this was a peaceful moment. they report zero arrests. a number of the demonstrators are actually still out in front of the hotel. this is as close as they can get. even though the president has already left town, they're staying out here, they tell me, into the night, to keep pressure on the gop. when president trump landed in philly, crowds were ready near city hall. >> it says show your taxes. we care. >> reporter: for terry from bucks county this is her first political march since the 1970's. vietnam. >> i was there. >> reporter: by noontime,

president trump's motorcade hit the road and a peaceful demonstration hit the streets. marching around city hall toward the lowe's hotel where trump was giving his speech. this is 13th and market. the furthest these protesters can get. it's blocked off here with president trump trucks from the city as well as a number of police officers, about one block that way is where the gop and president donald trump will be meeting and discussing policy. >> please, use your listening ears. hear the people out here. >> reporter: gale johnson asking the president to save the affordable care act. >> there is too many people who need it and have preexisting conditions. >> reporter: others supporting local immigrants after the president signed an executive order limiting refugees and defunding sanctuary cities. >> i was angry because i don't think it stands for what the united states is all about. >> reporter: more than a thousand marching peacefully, hoping to be heard. >> we got to get the message. >> reporter: with the country's

weather forecast. glenn, it felt chilly walking across the street to get my cup of joe. >> that's right. you are feeling that change. it's been a fairly dramatic, just over the last couple of hours. the flags tell the story. the wind is coming from the west and colder air is coming in. it's gusting to 41 miles per hour in philadelphia and atlantic city right now. we gusted up to 46 miles an hour, just a little while ago. it was also 55 a little while ago. now it's 49. 44 in allentown, 45 in coatesville with those gusty winds. it feels like it's in the 30s. what is going to happen as we go through the night tonight? that temperature just keeps going down and down and down. and the feels like temperature also keeps going down. because we're going to have at least some wind during the entire night. by tomorrow morning it will feel like it's in the 20s. some 30s for the temperature

itself. as we go through the day tomorrow, the temperature's not rising very much. 7:00 a.m., 34. suburbs, going up two degrees by 9:00 a.m. lehigh valley goes up one degree by 9:00 a.m. colder air is coming in. it will start feeling more like winter. we'll see how long that lasts coming up. all right. glenn. bucks county man says he played dead to try to save his life. >> that victim and a case of mistaken identity testified in front of the trio of suspects accused of trying to kill him. deanna durante was the only reporter in the courtroom. >> reporter: thomas grimes was told he may never speak again. the scar on his throat the main reason why. the 32-year-old was beaten, stabs and his throat slashed. today he used his voice to testify against the people he says attacked him. >> one of the most horrific crimes i've seen as a prosecutor

in a long period of time. >> reporter: these men came to grimes' apartment armed with guns and box cutter. this woman, they say was the master mind. >> obviously, this was her idea. this was her scheme that she hatched. >> reporter: clay rives of west oak lane didn't have a credit card and no money, but she wanted to live here in this small neighborhood. she wanted what people had, including big screen tvs and x box's. police say on black friday she began talking to these men. and they say she set up plan to rob an apartment, not expecting to find grimes sleeping inside. >> the lack of humanity. they were going to make sure that they got what they wanted, which was the items from within the house. and the fact that there was a human in between was not of a concern to them. >> reporter: on the stand grimes told a judge he was told to look at a picture of his daughter and say good bye. police say while reaves waited and listen, his throat was throat.

and when he didn't die jammed a box cutter in the back of his neck. he told the judge he played dead. he know he had one chance to get a help. he ran across the parking lot and went to a neighbor. >> that was collateral damage, you know, he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. >> reporter: in bucks county, deanna durante, nbc 10 news. we have new details in this deadly incident that saw a 50 pound dumb bell smash through an suv windshield on the jersey turnpike. they're not sure where the dumb bell came from. the 75-year-old man died yesterday two weeks after that weight hit his car. 60 homes are without water tonight after a water main broke in southwest philadelphia. this happened around 12:30 today on shields street. the water department is there and repairs are underway.

water service isn't expected to be back on until later tonight. new video of what was a sinkhole that threatened several homes in montgomery. you can see, crews have filled in most of that gaping crater. the ground gave way here yesterday morning. and nearly swallowed a pickup truck in the process. people who lost water because of it are being advised to boil their drinking water. embattled allentown mayor says the city's in excellent health. he delivered his state of the city address this morning. he cited several stats since he took office. he's been under scrutiny since the fbi raided allentown city hall in 2015. he's not been charged and he is running for a fourth term. drugs and missing safety equipment could be to blame for a deadly amtrak accident.

amtrak train 89 deraignled in april. the nbc 10 investigators first revealed missing safety equipment on the track. the ntsb found the engineer had marijuana in his system. investigators continue looking at safety. mitch blocker will have all the findings at 5:00. there's a new code of conduct for the pennsylvania attorney general's office. john shapiro introduced the code last week and since then everyone in the office has signed it. employees must do their job without discriminating. it highlights the importance of confidential information. the ag's office has been under the microscope since the arrest and conviction of kathleen cain. she resigned last year after a jury convicted her of leaking secret material. she has been sentenced to jail, but remains free while she

appeals. in a little more than a month we'll know how many people are living on the streets in philadelphia. volunteers were out getting a count together for the city. the number will be available in march. cities around the country are doing the same. a count was conducted in camden yesterday. new jersey does a state wide count twice a year. those numbers won't be out until late spring. pennsylvania state police say they've charged the top pot dealer at a lehigh valley college after a four month investigation. he was arrested in his dorm room yesterday. police say he admitted using snapchat to meet up with about a dozen students a day. president donald trump is expected to sign an executive action to launch an investigation into claims of voter fraud. >> mr. trump has repeatedly said he believes there was wide spread voter fraud in the november election. he said the fraud included scores of people voting in multiple states. mr. trump's youngest daughter

was registered to vote in pennsylvania and new york. >> i talked last night with tiffany trump. she said it is flatly false she is registered in two states. i recall talk ing with tiffany all through the fall when she was trying to make sure she can reregister in new york. she had been registered in pennsylvania and went through the process. >> now, while it would not be illegal for tiffany trump to be registered in both pennsylvania and new york it would be if she cast a ballot in multiple states. we're sorting through the voter registrati registration rolls. mr. trump has nothing but praise for izhhis new homes. he says the white house is beautiful and elgnlt. as for first lady melania and son bearron. they're come down from new york until the school year is over. a new trump tower is coming

up in uruguay. photos of donald trump and his children greeted visitors to the site, but the pictures have been taken down. the developers says it was president trump's decision. turning to our weather now, beautiful site at the blue cross river rink at penn's landing out there. it's going to feel a lot more like winter in the next couple of days. temperatures are dropping and things are changing. >> we had a feeling this was going to happen. we've been breezing through january. >> we're not talking about anything extreme. what we've seen is so mild that just average january weather is going to feel pretty chilly. it's 49 degrees in philadelphia right now. there's a sustained wind of 26 miles per hour. bringing that colder air in. 21 miles an hour, much of new jersey, delaware averaging 25 miles per hour. you can see a mix of sun and clouds out there. the place, of course, that's getting coldest first in our

region, berks county and lehigh valley. it's already down to 41 in lenardsville. fleetwood, walnut port is only 41. bath at 42. bethlehem and easton and nazareth at 43 degrees. so that's getting a little bit closer to average. but look at the wind. it's been way above average. it was gusting to 40 miles per hour a couple hours ago. as the warm air came in and now it's bringing the colder air in. 41 miles an hour there in atlantic city. 36 at bellmar, 32 dover air force base. 39 miles per hour in wilmington. we have had gusts over 45 miles per hour today. it will be windy tomorrow. but the gusts only to about 30 miles per hour. so that is a significant difference. we're just getting normal winter

temperatures that are returning. as we head to the weekend and a relatively dry pattern except for a couple chances of flurries. you'll see some of that in the seven-day forecast at the bottom of your screen for your own neighborhood. the temperature trend, well, the average high is 40 for this time of the year. 50 for yesterday. 55 for the high so far today. we're dropping a good bit tomorrow. that's still above average. and then we're getting closer to average as we go through the weekend. but it will not be as windy as what we've seen the last couple of days. this is what tradar looked like at 10:00 this morning. last of the showers coming through philadelphia and plenty of showers in delaware and new jersey. that has moved to the east. the drier air coming in. the lake effect snow is staying to the west. the cold air is not staying out there. it's coming straight in, straight out of the great lakes,

and eventually you look back and some of that is coming from canada. and so the feels like temperatures are going to be going down into the 20s later on tonight. we're not talking about any brutally cold. it's just not going to warm up that much over the day tomorrow. the highest it's going to feel is about 35. and barely 30 in the lehigh valley. and it kind of levels off as we go through friday night and saturday. it's feeling like the 20s during the day. and pretty much the 20s at night. so winter is coming back. tomorrow, the wind is 15-25 miles per hour, up to 47 in fairmount but 41 in chestnut hill. it will be different depending on what neighborhood you're in. allentown barely getting up to 40 degrees.

check out this young surfer in australia. that's a 10-year-old eden. look to the right of him. that's a shark, eden's dad snapped the photo of his son riding over the shark. experts have told him it was a young great white about eight feet long. the little surfer had no clue it was there until his dad told him. >> i was shocked, but i wasn't too scared because it was like, it just happened. and if i was on the wave that i saw it i probably would have freaked out and fell off. i was lucky i didn't fall off. >> absolutely. he didn't freak out either. the close encounter is not deterring eden. he's already been back in the water. they say just get back on. scary, right? >> very. >> glad he's all right. >> glad he stayed on the board.

short time after he spoke here in philadelphia telling his fellow republicans they will be busier than they have been in decades. >> think of everything we can achieve and remember who we must achieve it for. we're here now because tens of millions of americans have placed their hopes in us. to transfer power from washington, d.c. and give it back to the people. >> the president plans to be busy but he has one less appointment on his agenda next week. the mexican president announced he would not meet with president trump because of his stance on the wall. later donald trump said it was a joint decision to cancel that meeting. demonstrators packed center city during the president's visit to philadelphia today. more than thousand people were chanting for change around city hall. take a live look at demonstrators still gathered in center city. this is near the lowe's hotel

where the gop is meeting. philadelphia police saying no arrests and all the demonstrations have been peaceful. president trump wasn't the only high profile person attending the republican retreat in philadelphia today. british prime minister theresa may came to center city. she became the first foreign leader to address the annual gathering. tomorrow, she will become the first foreign leader to meet with our new president. former nfl quarterback peyton manning will also be in philadelphia for the republican restre retreat. he is scheduled to speak tonight at the dinner. he has donated to republicans in the past. president trump recently repeat his unsubstantiated claim that millions of illegal ballots cost him a win in the popular vote last november. there is no evidence that claim is true. >> it has drawn attention to the voting records of trump's own inner circle, including his daughter, tiffany. nbc 10 reporter george spencer confirmed tiffany trump is

registered in pennsylvania and new york city? >> there is no doubt about that. election officials in philly and in new york specifically confirm today that tiffany trump is still currently registered in both locations. in and of itself there is nothing improper about that. but the trump camp is still making claims that do not match the facts. at the commencement last may, president donald trump then still a candidate attended watching as his daughter tiffany graduated. pennsylvania records show tiffany registered to vote in philly in october 2012. listed her address as this apartment building and cast her receipt vote here in the april 26th primary. new york election officials say she registered there in october. and voted there in the general election. officials confirm she remains registered in both places. despite the insistence of white

the republican retreat continues in philadelphia this afternoon. after a visit from president donald trump. here's the live look at demonstrators gathered near the hotel, mostly peaceful and so far no arrests. president trump is back in washington after his appearance in philadelphia. >> today it's brought several firsts for our new president. among them, his first major stop outside washington since his inauguration. mr. trump took office six days ago. also brought a first today, a first flight on air force one for our new commander in chief. his new ride touched down at philadelphia international airport noontime. the very first president to fly in an aircraft, by the way, theodore roosevelt in 1910 but he was out of office by that time. mr. trump will have his first meeting with a foreign leader as president, tomorrow he's welcome british prime

minister theresa may at the white house. the last time mr. trump was in philadelphia, he visited the land mark key steak restaurant and gino's steak in south philly before a campaign event. top pediatricians are calling president trump's new immigration orders harmful to immigrant children. the american academy of pediatrics says the children live in constant fear their parents will be deported. president trump's executive actions include slashing federal funding to sanctuary cities which includes philadelphia. to our first alert weather. you see the flag flying there at cape may. get ready to return to winter weather. >> yes. >> it is january. >> almost february. let's turn it over to glenn right now who the expert with the most accurate forecast.

>> january is going to end up with temperatures way above average, maybe closer to six degrees above average, which is pretty substantial. it's way above average today. 49 degrees, even as the temperatures going down, the average high is 40. long way to go to get there. a lot of clouds around the area, but there's no rain anymore. we did have some earlier today. the temperatures in new jersey, a little warmer than what we just saw in parts of pennsylvania. we were showingio you berks county, temperatures closing in on the freezing mark. look at this, pitman, washington township, voorhies, florence, all 47 degrees. cold spot as usual in this round, princeton at 44 degrees. so this area is really going to cool down very quickly over the

next couple of hours. there's the wind gust of 41 at philadelphia and atlantic city. 39 in wilmington. no current gusts in coatesville. wind will be dying down somewhat as we go through the night tonight. it won't be quite as windy tomorrow. but it will be on the windy side. 54 yesterday for the high. 55 today. again, the average high is only 40. so even though we're dropping substan s substanti substantial as we head towards the weekend it's still close to average. here we were this morning with the last of the rain in philadelphia and still getting some more in delaware and south jersey. this was a weak system ahead of that front that has come through now, the lake effect snows stay back towards the lakes. the cold air moves in by 7:00 it's feeling like it's below freezing in some areas north and

west. then we're in the 20s later on during the night and feeling like the 20s during the morning tomorrow. and at best tomorrow afternoon we're feeling like 35 degrees. remember, we got to 55 today. so it's going to feel 20 degrees colder tomorrow afternoon than it was this afternoon. that's pretty significant. and then back down into the 20s again. as we go through the day tomorrow, the neighborhood forecast shows reading up to 42. bethlehem 40. these are a little bit above average, but way colder than today. west chester 41. phoenixville 44. mount airy 41. fairmount is 47. and as we head into new jersey, it's 47 haddenfield. 43 in trenton. and 44 in galloway township. 43 in avalon.

now to nbc 10 responds. a man says he canceled a service to save money. >> those bills just kept coming. no matter what he did, the company wouldn't stop billing him. he reached out to harry hairston and nbc 10 responds. it's bad enough to get a bill, but to get the same one over and over. >> i don't owe this. we don't do it anymore. it's terrible. check this out, to make matters worse, he says the battle over the bills had his credit rating in jeopardy. >> this is my new system. and it's very secure. >> laroy giles says he loves his security system. it comes with extras, including security for his windows.

us. >> giles said the company removed his bill from collections and he has a zero balance. >> thank you, harry, really. >> okay, folks here's the take away. whenever you cancel a service do what he did, get the company to acknowledge your cancellation in writing and ask for a final bill, showing what you owe, if anything. that way you have proof of the cancellation the date you canceled, and that you don't owe any money. all right. here's the one thing that giles didn't do, he didn't get the proof of showing what he didn't owe, get that zero balance thing. at least he had some of the paper work in writing and when he contacted us he made it easier for us. >> i'm starting to learn one thing. get it writing. >> if you don't have it in writing, you don't have it. >> read the fine print. writing and reading. >> most definitely. listen let's check out something in writing.
