we begin with a deadly hit and run in west philadelphia tonight. police say a 48-year-old woman was walking with several of her grandchildren when she was hit by a minivan. happened just before 8:00 tonight. the victim was carrying a 3-year-old in her arms. she dropped the child just before she was hit. the woman died at the hospital. no word if any of the children were hurt. investigators say the driver took off in a newer model white minivan. another tragedy on the road. a 13-year-old killed in an atv crash. it happened in bensalem. it left another teenager in critical condition. >> brandon hudson is live at the hospital where doctors are trying to save his life. brandon?

>> reporter: the atv rider was seriously injured. police say early indications that child was wearing his helmet and the child who died was not. when we arrived, we saw an upside down atv in the middle of the road. police say the two riders t-boned a car on the passenger side as the driver tried turning. the impact killed one of the 13-year-olds. a witness described what she saw after the crash. >> it was a bad sight. it was a quad turned over. a body in the middle of the road. first time i've seen something like that. bad. >> we get a lot of calls for them riding on the roadway. this is two individuals, tragic accident, but they were riding on the roadway. it appears one of them was wearing a helmet at the time. >> reporter: that was a township police lieutenant talking about the dangers of atv riding on the roadway. tonight, we found this. according to a recent report in

2015, 58 atv riders who died were under the age of 16. 32 were under the age of 12. that same report says that pennsylvania ranks fourth in the number of atv rider deaths between 1982 and 2015. tonight, police are investigating how fast this atv was traveling and if it had its lights on. i'm brandon hudson, nbc 10 news. tonight, president trump is moving forward with one of his most controversial campaign promises, extreme vetting that he says will keep terrorists out of the country. >> while he isn't banning muslims outright, he did sign an executive order for more restrictions on immigrants from predominantly muslim countries. an early draft mentions iran, iraq, libya, somalia, sudan, yemen and syria. >> reaction has been swift from civil rights advocates. drew smith live with more on

that. >> reporter: critics argue extreme vetting is another way of saying muslim ban. but the trump administration disputes that saying this is strictly a safeguard against terrorism. tonight at the pentagon, president donald trump used his pen to follow through on a campaign promise. >> we only want to admit those into our country who will support our country. >> reporter: it suspends the refugee program for four months, plus a 90-day ban for all entry to the u.s. from seven muslim majority nations with terror issues. >> we don't want them here. >> reporter: this is a reversal of policy. tens of thousands of refugees came last year. including here. this is video from philadelphia's refugee thanksgiving dinner. a lawyer with pennsylvania's aclu claims this new policy is unconstitutional. >> extreme vetting means discrimination against muslims. the president's message is very clear.

christians are welcome here but muslims are not. >> reporter: as a candidate, president trump sparked bipartisan criticism for his muslim ban proposal. but it proves popular among his supporters. top republicans are praising the action. in philadelphia, there's a promise from advocates to fight back. >> as a muslim and as an immigrant myself, it makes me feel hopeful when i see all these organizations present today standing in solidarity. >> reporter: refugees from syria are barred until further notice. the president said today he would prioritize christian admission. >> they have been horribly treated. if you were a christian in syria, it was impossible, very, very -- at least very, very tough to get into the united states. >> reporter: princeton is advising students who may be affected by the new refugee and visa order not to travel outside the u.s. until they get legal advice. drew smith, nbc 10 new u.s. tomorrow president trump is

scheduled to make five phone calls to world leaders. the one a lot of people are curious about is his call with vladimir putin. president trump's relationship with putin has been under scrutiny for months. the u.s. intelligence community says putin was personally involved in the covert campaign to hack the presidential election. president trump says he doesn't know putin personally but today said he would work with him to fight isis. >> we have a great relationship with russia and other countries. and if we go after isis together, which has to be stopped, that's an evil that has to be stopped, i will consider that a good thing, not a bad thing. >> president trump is also scheduled to speak with leaders from japan, germany, france and australia. pro life advocates are getting major support from the white house. vice-president mike pence became the first sitting vice-president to address the march for life. a sea of people walked from the washington monument to the

supreme court united to end abortions. pro life demonstrators march on washington every year. this time the man second in line at the white house led the charge. >> this administration will work with the congress to end taxpayer funding of abortions and abortion providers. >> advocates are encouraged tonight with the support from the white house. a new research study shows a sharp divide. 59% of people believe abortion should be legal in all or most cases. 37% say it should be illegal. a man on a motorcycle hit by a bus during rush hour has died from his injuries. this happened on olney avenue. the rider ran a red light. no one on the bus was injured. the manager of a right ate s attacked. video shows a man with a gun punching, kicking, then robbing the manager of the store. police say that manager handed

over the cash but still was beaten up. we spoke to the victim's sister-in-law. >> being the person that he is, he was just glad it was himself and not one of his employees. >> we're told the manager is out of the hospital tonight. new jersey prosecutors will not go after governor christie in the bridge gate scandal. prosecutors say the state does not believe it can prove the governor is guilty of official mi misconduct. a former firefighter insisted christie violated the law when he failed to reopen closed lanes to the bridge. the closures were alleged retribution for a local mayor who didn't support the governor's re-election bid. two of christie's former allies were convicted in the case. they will be sentenced next month. a third former ally pleaded guilty and testified against them. a former nba player who played two seasons with the sixers died today.

charles shackleford was found dead in his home. the 50-year-old played six seasons in the nba. he played with the sixers from 1991 to '93. the cause of death hasn't been determined and an investigation is under way. not so fast. that's what pennsylvania congressman bob brady is say about the cancellation of one of philadelphia's most famous races. the sights and sounds of the international cycling classic might not be heard this year. this morning organizers canceled the race. representative brady says he will try to call in favors before throwing in the towel. >> we will go to some deep pocket friends, some corporations that need to step up to the plate that benefit from the city of philadelphia. with the mayor's blessing and the mayor thinks we can do it, we will take a shot at it. maybe we can get it done. >> the most difficult stretch of the race is through manny young. business owners say they will take a hit from the

cancellation. an about face from leaders in cherry hill after an outcry from the community. a controversial production of the musical rag time will be performed as written. the musical which uses the n word is set to be performed this spring at cherry hill high school east. the school district pulled that word from production following a complaint from the naacp. but after several meetings and an online petition, the superintendent released a statement tonight citing his decision to allow the play to be performed as scripted. it reads in part -- the show opens march 10th. the water is now safe to drink again in a glenside neighborhood where a major sinkhole formed two days ago. a boil water advisory was lifted today. this was the scene as sky force 10 flew over on wednesday. we will show it to you. that hole damaged a driveway and

several front yards. there's no exact time line for when the delaware river bridge will reopen. tonight, we have learned there's progress. the turnpike says temporary supports are going up next week. it's been a week since the bridge connecting the pennsylvania and new jersey turnpikes were closed because of a crack right there. crews are still trying to figure out what caused it. gowns, tuxedos, brand-new cars. the philadelphia auto show gets under way this weekend. tonight the convention center was bustling for the black tie tailgate. it benefits the division of neurology at chop. you can check out the cars, trucks and new technology without the fancy attire. the auto show opens to the public tomorrow. up next, a police chase in the heart of center city. it's part of a movie filming. we will show you the lights, camera, action happening right now. the parrot caper. an update on the search for a pet bird on the loose in a local

tonight an update on the parrot that no one can catch in wilmington. we told you last night about the effort to get freddie mercury down from a tree. a hawk tried to attack it today. freddie flew away. it escaped last week. a delaware zoo is coming to the rescue and trying to help find him. hopefully, he will make it home. a car chase in the heart of center city. nothing to worry about here. it was part of a movie shoot for kevin heart's new film.

>> there are major road closures because of the filming tonight. >> reporter: because of the road closures, i am in the middle of jfk boulevard. you see the police officer behind me. this road will remain closed until 7:00 tomorrow morning. it's all because the untouchable movie is being shot three blocks down the street. it's lights, camera, action on jfk boulevard. don't let the new york city caps and ypd cruisers confuse you. philadelphia is taking center stage in the upcoming movie untouchable. >> movie with kevin heart and bryan cranston and nicole kidman. >> that's nice. i wish i would actually see them in person. that would be cool. >> reporter: the maniac toin ace not at the shoot. philadelphia police are. they closed jfk boulevard between 15th and 20th streets in the thick of rush hour for the first day of filming. there's always bumper to bumper traffic approaching city hall on a friday evening.

but tonight it's even more frustrating for drivers. >> there may be a couple of other blocks that will be closed. a few in center city. a few in other neighborhoods. this is the biggest. >> reporter: the closures will last until 7:00 a.m. additional closures will take place over the next 30 days of filming. it's no problem for this family. they left dinner and walked right into a movie. >> it's interesting to see it in a live environment instead of off of a movie set. >> reporter: kevin heart, bryan cranston and nicole kidman, they are already in town for reversal. we're told you can see them around the city starting next week when they shoot their screens. live in center city. celebration tonight in philadelphia to mark chinese new year. >> nbc $10 visited saint joseph

prep tonight. a dozen students from china go to school here. tomorrow marks the start of the lunar year of the rooster. in montgomery county, a personal art exhibit is on display. the community diversity exhibit features portraits of 25 families. they were taken by a school art teacher. >> recognize those faces? philadelphia mayor jim kenny was among the attendees. you saw there, erica marteen and iris delgado were there in center city. with the general manager there, too. there's another reason to smile if you live or vacation in cape may. >> it made coastal living list of the happiest seaside towns in america. cape may comes in at number six

philadelphia, nine degrees colder. it was not that cold this morning. the temperatures getting closer to the freezing mark. leonardsville, 32. kutztown, 32. we have fleetwood, 31. walnut port is 33. bath, nazareth, easton, whitehall also 33 degrees. how is it going to feel? get up early, get the paper, 19 degrees in pottstown and allentown. colder than it has been in a while. still not all that cold for this time of the year. even in the middle of the day, it's going to feel like it's barely freezing. in some places not even up to 30. it's going to be a cold day tomorrow. a little wind on top of that. when a cloud comes across, you will feel it. it will feel like winter again. then tomorrow night and into sunday morning, very much like saturday morning. sunday afternoon, very much like

saturday afternoon. maybe a little bit more sunshine on sunday than on saturday. don't expect any precipitation. not as windy as today. ten to 20 miles an hour is still a breeze. we were gusting to 31 today. all all allentown, 47. rehoboth beach at 44 degrees. the high temperatures over the weekend overall, these are pretty close to average. but the month of january has been exceedingly warm for january. about six degrees above normal. so saving on a lot of the heating bills. i don't expect any precipitation during the weekend. i also don't expect nearly as much wind as we have seen. >> all right. up next, a super celebration that took place right at a local school.

the crowd went crazy when the lasalle high school team scored the tenth point of the game. it was the annual silent night game. students dress up in costumes and no one can say a word until lasalle gets the tenth point. lasalle won the game, too. this is not a tryout for dirty dancing. this is the 76 erers mascot. franklin the dog says it's okay. he approves. i guess there was no raising of the cat tonight from ben simmons with the loss. >> no raising the cat tonight. there will be other chances to do that. tom brady getting ready for his seventh super bowl appearance. we will hear from him. joel imbeed, he did return. the sixers try to win tonight. highlights up next.
