nbc 10 news breaking news. >> allowed to stay. a late night decision by a federal judge creates temporary relief on the president's travel ban after a day-long battle at airports across the country and a family hopes their family is not detained, but sent back to qatar. >> it is sad. >> the president's travel ban is hitting home for people in the region. thanks for joining us at 11:00. i'm denise nakano. just 90 minutes ago, the aclu won a victory in court. a new york federal judge upheld the travel ban.

the crowd at jfc erupted in cheer. it allows all people can detainees not to be deported. dozens of passengers from overseas arrived to learn they had to immediately fly back to the war-torn countries. some are still in the u.s. since being detained since this morning. president trump signed the travel ban yesterday. non u.s. citizens from syria, iraq, iran and sudan and yemen are banned from the united states. we have more from the philadelphia airport where hundreds have a message and protest. >> reporter: philadelphia council member with hundreds at the airport to demand the release of those detained as a

result of the kpoexecutive orde. >> they have chosen to come here with us in pennsylvania. i say you are welcome. >> reporter: governor wolf  joined bob casey and mayor jim kenney to help negotiate with officers. they were not allowed to see the detainees or the team of civil rights lawyers. >> now they have people here right now that are staying overnight. not knowing what they will do. >> reporter: a judge's temporary injunction prevents people from being forced on a flight to go back home. lawmakers say this is unchartered territory and continues to clarify how the executive order. >> i want to make sure that when an order like this is in effect, that it doesn't have a lot of details about the rights of

those who are detained that every possible rule is followed and they have rights. >> reporter: now civil rights attorneys continue to file petitions on behalf of those detainees. they say they know of about four or five. there could be more. they do know that one of them was an interpreter for the u.s. government. look behind me. the protesters. some still here. there will be another protest tomorrow at 2:00 where they are expecting more people. reporting live, aundrea cline-thomas, nbc 10 news. a family in allentown waited for years to make it to philadelphia today. this morning, they arrived only to be sent back on the next flight hours later. tonight, we talked to the family in lehigh county. >> joseph is waiting on word that six of his family members flying to philadelphia from cat tar wi qatar will be okay.

his two uncles and their wives and children were detained at the philadelphia airport. they were sent back to qatar. >> going an 18-hour plane riden't thride n and told they were not welcome here. >> reporter: his family has waited for 15-14 years to come to the u.s. and paid thousands of dollars and through the process of immigrant visas and green cards. little did they know while they were in the air, policy on the ground took a shift under the trump presidency. >> they had been approved and for overnight, all that to be taken away in flight. that's frustrating. >> reporter: republican congress member from allentown is urging the trump administration to immediately release the executive order from policy. >> unfortunately, this executive

order today is peappears to be . it is having consequences that are felt right here in my community of allentown, pennsylvania. >> it goes against everything he wants to do. he wants to protect the christian people. he want to help those persecuted. he is sending them back to danger. >> we just spoke with the family on the phone. they are trying to get in touch with relatives to come back to the u.s. earlier tonight, mayor jim kenney is sick for the families turned away. he said the trump administration may have given these families a death sentence. dwight evans and eight days in office and potus orders are unconstitutional. reporters had a chance at the white house today to ask president trump about the executive action and if it is a ban on muslims. >> not a muslim ban.

it is working out nicely. you see at the airports and all over. it is working out nicely. we're going to have a very, very strict ban and we will have extreme vetting which we should have had in the country for many years. >> now thousands spent the day outside jfk in new york where protesters voiced disapproval of the order to temporarily close u.s. borders to refugees. lawyers for two iraqis who were detained when they arrived in new york on friday filed a lawsuit against trump and the government. the lawsuit claims they have valid documents. one worked for an interpreter during the iraq war was released this afternoon. he was one of two citizens on flights when president trump signed the executive order friday. the immigration crackdown is

mother, but she grabbed the girl. the officers waved for the train to stop as the mother's boyfriend rescued the girl. matacchiera is charged with attempted murder. the girl has bruising, but is back home. a west philadelphia family mourning a grandmother and wants someone to step up and identify a driver. this photo shows a white minivan that dragged catherine brown around the corner and down the street. the 48-year-old died from her injuries. before she died, she tossed her 3-year-old grandson out of the van's path. >> if she is not working, she is with the kids. >> the family says this is tough on the grand kids. the crash happened as they were all leaving a birthday party and the young kids witnessed the entire thing. emergency order. we continue to follow a judge's order to have travelers detained

chilly. 32 in millsboro. parkwood at 32. low 30s at society hill and center city with the upper 30s. let's break it down. satellite/radar picking up on clouds developing. flurries to the west of us. we are seeing white here. it is not making it to the ground. that is really important. i amtraki itracking two chances snow. we will move this late tomorrow into monday. you will see the first system really approaches from the southwest. it effects delaware and the jersey shore. by midnight on monday, notice we're seeing the snow moving from the southwest to the northeast. early monday morning when he a lot a lot of us are getting up early to work and school, we see snow for new castle and kent
