airports on something else. i am via sikahema. the president blaming the chaos on delta computers and protesters. he said 139 out of 325,000 passengers were held for questioning. he said he had to act fast to stop, quote, bad dudes, from getting into the country. there seems to be international criticism against the move, and they said this could help terrorists achieve their goals. edward lawrence has more reaction. >> reporter: public reaction to president trump's executive order came swiftly to airports across the united states because of stories like this. >> i have a daughter in lebanon. >> the executive order imposed a

90-day ban from people coming into the u.s. >> certain areas of the world produce people that seek to do harm and we have to understand those people undergo a certain amount of vetting before they come into the country. >> mr. trump defended the ban this morning in a tweet saying there's nothing nice about searching for terrorists before they enter our country. democrats vowed to fight it. >> we are going to introduce legislation this afternoon that will give the congress and republicans options to repeal this executive order. >> late last night the new head of homeland security, john kelly, tried to clear up confusion in the executive order on green card holders insisting they will not be blocked from returning to the u.s. >> we have an extreme vetting proposal that didn't get the vetting it should have had.

>> there was a temporary injunction blocking those here. edward lawrence, nbc news, washington. the president also met with small business leaders this morning. he promised to reduce government regulations by 75%. the president called small businesses the biggest businesses in our nation. philadelphia international airport is a lot calmer today than this weekend but there are still big concerns by many of the travelers about the president's immigration ban. pamela osborn is live for us at the airport. you are talking to people who have strong emotions about this, and tell us what they are saying? >> reporter: i talked to some that got off the flight from qatar this morning, and there was a sense of relief for those

that made it here on u.s. soil, and there was a feeling of disappointment. she paced back and forth wonder tpg her husband would be allowed to return to her after spending a month overseas in the middle east. >> it's very scary not knowing what's going to happen when he gets here. >> reporter: just two days ago two syrian families taking that same flight from qatar to philly international were detained and sent back to their war-torn country of syria. >> they asked to call us and let us know what was going on and they were not allowed to, and they were rushed from one plane to the next one. >> today, a different story, her husband got customs in due time,

and there are feelings about america who can enter. >> it's a personal attack. we're not foreign. i am native american, cherokee nation. i am born and lived her all my life, and my husband is african-american, and born and lived here all our lives, and doesn't matter if there was a green card or anything, and it just seemed to be what is going on being a muslim. >> and the administration said this is not a muslim ban, and that person and other passengers feel like it's a personal attack, and i should mention the syrian families turned away over the weekend are of christian faith and their families here in the united states raising money in hopes of bringing them back here one day soon. reporting live at philly international airport, pamela osborn, nbc10 news. >> within the last ten minutes, pat toomey released a statement

on president trump's travel ban saying in part, it is crucial that our nation strike the right balance between defending our people against the deadly threat of international terrorism and providing a safe haven for innocent refugees seeking peace and freedom. he did acknowledge the initial executive order was flawed and too broad and poorly explained. and philadelphia mayor is vocal with his problems about the ban, and he was in south philadelphia this morning at a ribbon cutting for a new urgent care center. the mayor called the president a bully who must be stood up to. >> i am appalled at the attitude. i'm thankful president trump was not president in the 1840s because a million irish people would have been sent back and starved in their country. >> he says this will have ripple affects around the world as muslim countries decide not to cooperate with the u.s. new this morning, president

trump announced he will name his pick for the supreme court tomorrow night at 8:00 p.m. he called his pick, quote, unbelievably highly respected. and insiders say neil gorsech could be one. a federal lawsuit is on behalf of 20 or more individuals challenging president trump's executive order. and check your nbc10 app for up-to-the-minute developments here and around the country. a snowy start to the day in parts of the south jersey, and in delaware. this is how it looked a few hours ago in cape may, but many parts of our area saw no snow at

all. crystal has our forecast. >> this is one of two systems that are going to clip our area, so the first system is expected to clip to the south in parts of delaware and new jersey, and saw the snow specifically along the shore and that has moved offshore. what we are watching is scattered snow showers hanging to the west, and they as we go into the afternoon will pass through our area leaving us with spot areas of light snow passing, and this is not something that will accumulate except spot areas dusting in the afternoon. and what is left? nothing we can track. it's moving offshore and we will see that melting off as we go throughout the day. temperatures will remain cold across the board. take a look at where we are now. 36 in philadelphia, and 34 in allentown, and millville, you are at 33. dover at 36 degrees for the current temperature. so as we go through the afternoon into philly, 36 right now, and we will get to about

and the building did lose its heat so the school is closed for the day. two armed robbery suspects under arrest after a holdup, and police said the men broke into this score at 62nd and spruce last night, and after they took cash from the store owner, the store owner pulled a gun and shot one of the suspects in the back. police arrested the two men when they showed up to the hospital in a stolen car. a philadelphia man under arrest this morning after accused of driving under the influence and killing a teenager and her 10-year-old sister yesterday morning on roosevelt boulevard and large street. they lived nearby. the driver left the scene and later returned. he is now charged with homicide by vehicle and drunk driving. time for a check on the roads with our traffic reporter, jessica. >> we are watching the boulevard right now, and this is around broad street, and construction

taking out lanes in both directions, and so you might see some delay here. you can see at this point one la lane getting by, and one lane on the opposite side as well. and there's a crash on cedar avenue about half an hour ago, and still watching the delaware river bridge, and the turnpike connecter bridge is still closed for the repair, and it's something that will affect your commute a little bit. and here's the schuylkill expressway. the 13 minutes from the blue to the vine, and speeds also into the high 50s. lastly here, moving up through cam ton done, and you can see everything looks great and a smooth drive. back to you. >> thank you. this morning a wilmington's family bird is back home, and we reported the story of a trapped bird last week.

police in canada are questioning two suspects in a terrorists attack at a mosque. six are dead in the shooting, and another eight are wounded. the attack happened at a mosque in quebec city, and kevin gallagher has the latest on the investigation. >> reporter: the two suspects that have been arrested police are now saying they are in their late 20s, early 30s, and both not known previously to investigators. what we do know is that last night just before 8:00 they came in -- or two men allegedly came into a mosque in quebec city opening fire. six people are dead and five

remain critically injured, and two of those people are in intensive care. >> quebec city today has been hit by terrorism. hard to believe. it's such a peaceful city. >> nearby where this mosque is, a little suburb in quebec city, there are ongoing police raids in small neighborhoods nearby. we're still waiting to find out more about the identities of these two suspects that have been arrested. one last night was arrested near the mosque after the shooting had occurred, and another was captured by police some distance away closer to downtown quebec city, and people here are eager and on edge to learn more, and police say the situation is under control but many in the neighborhood are still

concerned. reporting from quebec city. new york city police are stepping up patrols at mosques and other worship places after a shooting in canada, and a van was parked outside a mosque cultural center, and all new yorkers need to be vigilant and if somebody sees something they should say something. happening now, protesters are rallying in washington against trump's nominee for attorney general. clergy and civil rights leaders hope to stop jeff sessions from being confirmed. the senate is expected to vote tomorrow, and the aclu asked for a delay in the vote to question him on the border wall and the president's executive order. let's start with a live look outside cape may, new jersey. you can see on the grassy areas, it's starting to melt off already.

what we are looking at is a couple inched that moved in this morning and for the most part it's starting to melt away. temperatures are just above freezing. dennis township, 33 degrees. and atlantic city, you are at 33 for the current temperature outside. it's going to be a cold day throughout, and we are only going to get in the upper 30s as we get into the afternoon across the region. here are temperatures through philadelphia neighborhoods, and 37 in busleton. we are looking for the upper 30s for highs later today. looking at radar and satellite, what we see is that the showers we had earlier moved offshore, so looking further to the west we have scattered snow showers trying to make their way to the

ground through parts of pennsylvania, and so as we get into the afternoon saw especially we will see more spotty activity, and nothing that will leave any accumulation, but a dusting in spots, and this starts to pass near us. let's take a look at your future model to explain that. here's your hour by hour, 11:00 a.m., and we still have some clouds but those have thinned out, and by 3:00 or 4:00, we have the spotty snow showers passing through pretty much the entire viewing area, but it's spotty in nature and going to be light snow and going to move off through the rest of the afternoon into the evening. overnight into tuesday, the next round of snow moves through, and this is going to clip us to the north. we see the snow through chester county through berks county, just nearing philly, and it's going to stay along the suburbs, and as we get into the afternoon, a second band of scattered rain showers may move through but at this point it will be warm enough to track

rain instead of snow. and then that starts to move off overnight and this starts the drier spell as we go into the next several days of your forecast. the official highs in the upper 30s, and summerton at 39, and allentown, more in the low 30s at 34 degrees. and 39 for ocean city, and the same in wilmington, the upper 30s for highs just later this afternoon. taking a look at your 10-day on 10, we do stay cool and tuesday we make it into the 40s, and then we go into thursday, friday, we are dry into your weekend as well, and look at those highs. they are only in the mid to upper 30s for highs, and lows, low mid-20s, so a real dose of winter over the next week. thank you, crystal. just ahead -- >> score! >> lots of pride for the orange

immigration ban. he denied it caused chaos at airports nationwide and instead he is pointing to computer khreufps and protesters and what he called the tears of senator schumer. meanwhile the order is ruffling feathers internationally, and iraqi leaders backed a measure that would retaliate barring americans to enter. he talks about his pick for supreme court justice. >> a person that is unbelievably highly respected, and i think you will be impressed. >> only 109 people were detained at the airports over the weekend out of more than 300,000 travelers. he defended the rollout of the ban. the president tweeted

earlier, quote, if the ban were announced with a one-week notice, the bad would rush into our country during that week. a lot of bad dudes out there. travelers are keeping a close eye on developments involving the immigration ban and huge protests developed over airports over the weekend and it's calmer today. and pamela osborn is live at the philadelphia international airport. what are passengers saying to you. >> reporter: good morning, and as we waited for a plane from qatar, we noticed a woman and her daughter waiting in the international terminal and she said she was waiting for her husband to return from a month-long trip over from the middle east, he flew in from qatar, and this is the same flight that two syrian families took on saturday but when they arrived they were turned away

and went back to qatar, and that sparked protest at the airport. yesterday an estimated 5,000 people stood in support of those passengers and their families. the women we talked to today said she feels like it's a personal attack on her and an attack on her faith. >> we don't know exactly what immigration or homeland security has plans for anybody, and it doesn't matter if there's a green card or anything, it just happens to be what is going on with the muslims and it's not going on with, you know, the immigrants or anything, and it seems to be a muslim situation. >> reporter: lucky her husband made it in okay and made it in and out of customs as well, and he was too tired to talk to us, and all smiles to be reconnected with his daughter and wife. many of the passengers we spoke to said they are happy to be back here on u.s. soil, and also a little saddened by this travel

ban. reporting live now at philly international, and pamela osborn, nbc10 news. we are getting reaction from lawmakers on both sides of the aisle, and republican senator from new jersey said the immigration ban will strengthen the screening process, and he said the hasty execution of such efforts have created wide-spread confusion and frustration and i urge the trump administration to work with appropriate federal, state and local agencies to quickly reassess. happening today, new jersey senators cory booker and bob menendez will discuss the impact of trump's executive orders on immigration, and civic and religious leaders will meet at the office in new jersey. penn state, la salle, and

temple are weighing in. msnbc's morning joe team talked about their meeting today on their show, and they say they urged the president to be compassionate on the issues that are creating such outrage. britain said it still plans to welcome president trump for a state visit later this year, and the prime minister's office said the trip will go on despite calls to cancel it after his ban on immigrants. a state visit involves a lavish pomp and ceremony, along with a stay at the palace with queen elizabeth. an online petition opposing the trip received more than a million signatures today, so it will have to be considered for debate in parliament. and british lawmakers are

weighing in on so-called fake news, and the committee is launching an investigation into the problem, and it's a trend is a threat to democracy and wants tech companies to be more aggressive in stopping it. nbc10 will stay on top of the immigration ban, and make sure you have the app and follow us on twitter and facebook for updates on what is happening here at home and across the country. >> announcer: now your nbc10 first alert weather. >> it's a snowy start to the day in south jersey today. look at this scene in ventor. a coating of snow, and not enough to cause problems but just enough to look kind of pretty. another pretty picture in cape may this morning, and the snow was coming down in cape may but not sticking on the road, so drivers did not really have big issues to deal with. it was kind of nice to look at.

nbc10 first alert meteorologist here with our forecast. >> the snow we saw this morning is now offshore, and you can see it is moving on out to the east, and what we are left with currently is sun out there, and still lingering clouds through the region and then we have to look further west to see what is coming our way. we still actually see quite a few scattered snow showers trying to make it to the ground through pennsylvania and that's going to head our direction, and it's almost to chester county right now. not all of this is making it to the ground and it's just light snow that will pass through as we get into the afternoon but still flakes are possible because temperatures are around freezing currently and they are going to rides only a few degrees, and we are talking mid-30s for highs. 33 in mt. pocono. we are at 34 in mount holly, and wilmington, 34 or up to 38 degrees. and some flakes might melt by the time they make it to the ground. and it's not breezy, but the

winds are up a tad so it feels colder than it actually is. 12 degrees in mt. pocono. and right at freezing is the feels like temperature in philly and near dover. we are cold this afternoon and still spotty snow showers trying to make their way, and then round two of the snow that will clip us to the north. and coming up, we will talk about a drying trend and those temperatures through the rest of your workweek all in just a few minutes. delta airlines says it is slowing returning to normal after a systems outage. the airline cancelled about 110 flights so far today. officials say more cancelations are possible. yesterday's system outage led to a ground stop, and it's waiving fees associated with what happened yesterday and today.

and then the piper cherokee landed on i-95 and had just taken off from ft. pierce, and nobody was hurt but it's not yet known why it had to make an emergency landing. a stolen relic has police on the lookout in lakewood ocean county. investigators say two men broke into a school yesterday, saturday, rather, and they stole a sacred religious scroll worth $70,000. this is surveillance video of the suspects, and if you happen to recognize the men you are asked to contact the police. a $5,000 reward is being offered. it's an all-time record, and nearly 21,000 fans at the wells fargo center and made up the largest college basketball crowd ever in the state of pennsylvania, and boy, what a finish they saw. the score, tied in the final seconds. and villanosreul tph the replay

health food. >> sometimes when you think it's going to be healthy you think it's going to be nasty, and it's good that we made something healthy and also delicious. >> the students worked for more than a year to fine tune the recipe. very nice. ikea is recalling more than 30,000 beach chairs because they can cause injuries. the recall involves the foldable chairs. the company received 13 reports of the chairs collapsing and six people had to have fingertip amputations because of it, and they were sold in stores nationwide. it's truly one of philadelphia's great gems, but the museum has had a bit of a rocky past and now it's forging ahead and look into the future, and the president and chief executive office of the please touch museum. thank you for coming by and seeing us this morning. you just announced a new

strategic plan. >> we have a new mission and focus and we are going to focus on changing a child's life as they discover the power of learning through play. the museum has the most amazing experiences for young kids, and what they are learning while they are playing in river adventure or a flight to fantasy is things necessary to be successful in school and throughout life. >> and some engineering, right? >> yeah, a little bit of engineering. you know i am a big fan, and i have come a couple times with the "wednesday's child shoot", and the kids love it. and one thing that is so great is the learning aspect. tell us the ways in which the museum is enhancing the way in which children learn? >> we call it focus, and we are not throwing out the play and magic but we are going to put new exhibits together, and we just launched the basket ice

cream stand, and that's a terrific partnership, and it's about how you count when you put the scoops on the cone, and we're about to reveal a new chop exhibit, a big refresh of the children's hospital exhibit and that focuses on things, and kids learn about empathy about what it's like to go in an ambulance, and we have big plans down the road for exhibits in 2019 and 2020. >> i love the free house and the kids love climbing it and being inside the tree house, and the train. and the digging. >> the digger. >> the digger! the kids love that. and i find myself sometimes the kids have gotten off the digger and gone to something else, and i am still there. >> i was on it last week and we were trying to figure out who could get the most balls in the little scoop. >> it's such a great -- as i said, it is a gem in

philadelphia. you always feel like you wish more people knew about it? >> i have to say we are doing great. we had 490,000 visitors last year, and 9,000 member families and a tough year for us when we had to make tough choices, we never closed our doors, and we stayed open. now we are kicking and going strong and looking to a bright and vibrant future. >> you had 5,300 kids there this weekend, and i am thrilled that you are still up right, after 5,300 kids. if you are a history buff, by the way, it's a great place to come and read some of the history. >> aur centennial display is fabulous. >> thank you very much for coming in. good luck to you and the museum and we hope to come by for many more years to come. >> come soon. >> appreciate it. now looking at your temperatures out there are warming up above freezing, even

though we saw snowfall around delaware this morning. and greeneville, you are at 35 degrees. town checking in at 37 right now, and that's pretty close to the same as we drop further south. and allendale, lincoln, 35. milton at 34 degrees. temperatures, as we go through the rest of today and the afternoon, mid-upper 30s about where we cap and so it's cold day as we move through your afternoon. your neighborhood in the suburbs, 34 degrees. and bedminister still freezing at 32. some areas only 34 degrees outside. and we did not see much in terms of snow for the suburbs but it was a cold start for the morning and will continue into a cold afternoon. the clouds and snow have moved off to the east, at least the first round, and then around

baltimore and then it's going to be scattered isolated snow making it to the surface, and you can see it's passing through much of pennsylvania tracking our direction, so as we get into the afternoon we have yet another round of snow potential, and this is going to be more spotty and light snow that passes through, and don't be shocked if you see a few flakes falling on your ride home in the afternoon. up to 34 on wednesday, so a tiny warm but still cool days ahead. also on tuesday you may see some light snow as well around the morning and that may turn to rain, spotty rain showers in the afternoon, and not talking major accumulation with either today or tomorrow's snow potential. monday in the suburbs, 36 degrees this afternoon and tomorrow up to 40 as well, and we stay in the low 40s through your wednesday. same for the lehigh valley, only mid '30s today and the temperatures where they are currently will stick through the rest of the afternoon. 39 in new jersey, and 39 in

delaware, and this is light snow that melts when it hits the ground because temperatures will be a little above freezing. we get to the low 40s tomorrow, and stay near those values on wednesday, and wednesday we tried out entirely. and areas near the shore are less likely to see any snow tomorrow. it's moving the north so going to pass the suburbs. the winds today, just enough to make it feel colder than it actually is, so just a chilly one. 13 in millville this afternoon, and philadelphia the same, and wilmington, the winds about 14 miles per hour. and hour by hour, this will show what i was talking about here, the scattered snow showers, and they are offshore again. we have clouds that build in overnight of your tuesday and that's when we see the snow passing just to the north, from 6:00 a.m. to noon, and snow potential mostly the lehigh valley suburbs, and then temperatures will be too warm for any snow, and then we dry out as we go overnight tuesday
