we are following breaking news from the white house where president trump just hit iran with new sanctions. an attack in paris, what closed one of the most popular tourist attractions and what is the motive behind the attack. right now at 11:00 details about the deadly stand ooff tha ended jedyesterday. they used a backhoe to save a female prison employee yesterday. a corrections officers was found dead. i'm vai sikahema. >> and i'm tracy davidson. we are learning more about how

communities in delaware will come together to remember the man who died in the prison standoff. we are live with an update, george. >> yeah. more than 24 hours after this standoff ended the big questions about how it could have happened are piling up as this investigation really begins in earnest. as you said, it comes as the community of sergeant floyd will be honoring him and his work at at least two vigils tonight. yesterday morning we captured the aftermath of a hostage situation that lasted about 18 hours. it raised questions that will surely become central in this investigation. they stay prison is chronically understaffed. inmates demanded access to water. when they got it they used it to fill up foot lockers which became heavy barricades for the

prison's doors. they say sergeant floyd actually helped save the lives of other officers in that prison wednesday. the father and 16 year veteran of the force reportedly shouted at other officers telling them to stay out of room he was in, that it was a trap set by the inmates. and floyd will be remembered by his community in at least two separate vigils. the first one at 6:00 p.m. the second one at legislative mall in delaware. there were a total of 120 inmates in that building at the time this standoff began. we are told at this point all of them are being considered potential suspects. i'm george spencer, nbc 10 news. >> thank you. we have more coverage from this standoff online.

the u.s. imposed new sanctions in reaction to iran's recent ballistic missile test. >> yeah. the u.s. put iran on notice. today the treasury department announced it responded by putting in place new sanctions on 13 individuals and a dozen companies. frigid conditions on the slopes this morning. winds are picking up as well. we give you a live look. nbc 10 erika martin is here. >> we are trending below normal for this time of year. right now we are actually below the freezing mark. westerly winds at 15 miles per hour. we are talking about not only these colder temperatures but certainly those colder feels like temperatures. so right around 4:00 p.m. even

temperatures. overall we do have a very cold trend. saturday only topping out in the upper 20s to 30s. by sunday we top out at 46 degrees in philadelphia. something to look forward to. back to you. >> thank you. philadelphia police investigating a suspicious death. officers say a man in his mid-50s was found around 5:30 this morning. so far police have not made any arrests. to bucks county they are looking for cause of a hotel room fire. it started on the first floor of the main street inn. the owner thinks it may be a case of arson. the red cross is helping the five people forced out by that fire. testimony started in the penalty phase of a building collapse. the jury must decide how much each defendant will pay.

12 other ws were hurt. a jury is expected to begin deliberated in about a week. the naacm wap wants a new t. jury i have said campbell was only 1% liable for the collapse. he is serving a 15 to 30 year prison seasontence. a child is back with her mother. witnesses saw the thief abandon the 19 month old girl in her car seat where the mother owned a laundromat. the man swiped the gray toyota while the mom went inside the laundromat to get a toy for her daughter. happening today philadelphia's mayor will take part in an inner faith service.

based but essentially with regard we teach them every time he smells the cancer he gets a treat. >> how do you expose him? do you expose him to where you know there's cancer. >> we take blood samples with those diagnosed with ovarian cancer and offer the sample up to his nose. he gives us a big inhale and essentially we reregard him with a treat. >> how do researchers use what you're doing here? >> we are working in collaboration in hopes that we can use what we learned to develop an electronic nose. essentially instead of having a dog in the clinic we are hope to go put them out of a job and use their skills to develop an electronic diagnostic test. you give us a little bit of your

blood sample and essentially it could look at the odor profile and tell us it looks like you might have the odor profile of someone who has ovarian cancer. >> will they eventually be able to sniff out other kinds of cancer? zb we decided to focus on ovarian cancer because it is known as the silent killer. ovarian canners is detected very early. we have the diagnostic tests that are not as reliable and oftentimes women who end up having ovarian cancer don't find out until later on. they are confused with stam ache aches and other things you might not get. so we wanted to focus on the cancer that really needed it. we hope that some day we can keep working with other partners. >> excellent.

a corrections officer was killed. we are learning more about how the community around the prison reacted to the standoff. we are live with an update.

>> yes. they have ordered flags in that state to be flown at half staff in honor of sergeant floyd. it comes as the union representing the recollection that will officer is othering criticism saying they left this badly understaffed. it was around 5:00 a.m. earlier in the day that law enforcement used a backhoe and charged into that building handcuffing inmat inmates. the other hostage that was still inside, sergeant steven floyd was found dead. he is credited with saving other lives for telling others to run for safety, that they set a trap. all eyes in that area were watching and reading the news following every update and
