we have live team coverage of this dramatic change in our weather and how people are preparing for the snow. let's start with krystal cline. what's the latest track on the storm? >> the snow is moving through parts of illinois, heading into ohio. still a ways out, but the 60s of today really will turn into the 30s for tomorrow as the snow starts to move our direction. we're under a first alert for the entire area. everywhere else is looking at a good hit of snow. enough so we're talking accumulation. 4:00 a.m. to noon is when we put this first alert into effect. crucial timeline is why we decided to put this first alert in effect because it could lead to some driving concerns leading to slick roads. poor visibility at times as

well. heavy snow could lead to a lowered visibility across the region. we're at 64 degrees for philadelphia. 52 in allentown. atlantic city is one degree shy of 70 degrees, so we're talking very, very warm air in place right now. but as the system moves in, we're going to force out the warm air and bring in the much colder air. here's the timeline for the rest of your afternoon. 64 right now. we'll start to drop off later in the afternoon. 62 1:00 p.m. the dropoff in temperatures will really plummet overnight. we'll talk more about that with your hour-by-hour forecast. our live team coverage continues with pamela osborne. pam, you've been checking on

what's being done to get the roads ready. tell us more about that. >> reporter: that's right. i just got off the phone with penndot. they're in the middle of their own planning phone call right now. they're busy talking with accuweather. it's still pretty early on, but the penndot spokesperson tells me crews will be called in about 8:00 tonight to begin those threats. we were in berks county early this morning. >> some of our landscapers have already purchased so they have their supplies ready. at this point in the game people wait to see if there's any changes in the weather. we anticipate to be much busier than we have been. tomorrow morning we'll be quite busy of people getting last-minute supplies.

senators all week. three federal appeals court judges are expected to rule later this week on president trump's ban on travel from the u.s. from seven majority muslim countries. the government asked the court to restore the travel ban, but several states argued it is unconstitutional. either side could appeal it to the supreme court. president trump focuses on law and order. he talked to a group of sheriffs and police chiefs from around the country. he said police need to be held to the highest standards as role models for the communities they serve. >> announcer: now you're first alert weather. we begin with a look at radar and satellite because tomorrow at this time it will be a very different view. currently, we have a mix of sun and some clouds out there. we are dry though. no rain, no snow to track. it would not be snow because those temperatures right now are way, way warmer than average.

up to 66. we have already broken a record in philadelphia. we have tied a record in atlantic city. we're at 69 right now. that's the record for atlantic city on this date in history. we'll get to 71 because we're still trending up. 69 in wilmington. we're talking temperatures much, much above the average. on the hour-by-hour forecast, things change very quickly. today clear with a cloud mix. that continues into the evening. 6:30 your commute home will be just fine. there's the difference. now you see the whites, the purples, the greens. this is a mix of rain and snow that's going to move in. why the mix? because we've got to battle that very warm air knocking it out as the system moves in. it will spread through to suburbs, then pass philly, then mix into new jersey and

delaware. 7:30 in the morning we're tracking some of the heavier snow. that's the deeper blues you see passing through our area. around 1:30 in the afternoon it's starting to move out of philly. then it moves offshore entirely. we see this for about the first half of your day, but that's enough to get some considerable accumulation. 6 to 10 inches is the purple you see. that cuts through the northern parts of our suburbs as well as into the lehigh valley and berk county. camden and gloucester county, 4 to 6 inches of snow. 2 to 4 inches of snow further south. mostly melting or a rain we're looking at as we go along those most southern parts of our viewing zone. the ten-day shows us that as we

storm. >> i know probably people would say i don't believe you because temperatures today are so warm, but as we go into tomorrow this is what we're looking at. 4:00 a.m. to noon. where? everywhere except for the shore and southern delaware going to see major effects from this because we're talking accumulating snow over half a foot by the time this is out. the major concerns will be slick roadways and poor visibility at times due to heavy snow we are expecting to pass. this is a stark difference to where we are currently. temperatures in the 60s. some spots have already broken records, including philadelphia. the record for warmth today was 63. we're now at 64 degrees. 60 in parts of the pennsylvania suburbs. we're in the low 50s for the lehigh valley and mid 50s for parts of new jersey. we're seeing a wide range. in delaware 67.

some spots are up to 69. so today it's all about the record warmth, but tonight we see a very quick, quick plummet of those temperatures, which is going to allow for the snow you see here to start making its way to us. coming up, we're going to track this out hour by hour. we'll talk more about the totals neighborhood by neighborhood as well. >> and our live team coverage continues now with pamela osborne live in king of prussia. the roads are a big concern for tomorrow morning, pam. >> reporter: yeah, i talked to officials here in montgomery county. they tell me that they're upping their staffing, especially at those 911 call centers. we've been out and about checking this morning on supplies. plenty of shovels as well as other snow accessories available for sale. they're expecting things to get busier today and especially tomorrow morning.

now is a pretty good time to pick it up. this is expected to be a wet heavy snow, one that could cause power outages. montgomery county is telling residents to have the number of your power utility handy if your power goes out. don't call 911. also they're saying don't over exert yourself if you're outside shoveling snow especially if you have health issues or medical conditions. if you're using a snow blower and it gets jammed, don't use your hands to clog that out. keep your cell phone and flashlights handy. montgomery county officials are hoping people stay put tomorrow during the snowstorm, but if you have to be out and driving around, use headlights. make sure you brush the snow off them so they are visible. get a safety kit together. one that includes a shovel, salt, and flares.

to salvage what they can. this morning parts of the south are in shock after fast-moving storms pounded several states. >> it's all gone. >> reporter: the ferocious winds flipping over this truck and tossing it down the road. >> oh, my gosh. look at this. >> reporter: tornados sliced through at least seven parishes in louisiana. some of the same neighborhoods ravaged by katrina more than a decade ago. she remembers it well. she was out of her home for nearly a year after the hurricane destroyed it. now this. >> this is overwhelming. with the hurricanes, you have opportunity to leave. with this there's no opportunity. >> reporter: thousands of people left without power. >> we shouldn't be here. >> reporter: edward noel and his 83-year-old mother barely survived when the tornado ripped

the roof off their home. >> i saw the tornado coming towards us through the window. >> reporter: this man was walking his dog when the storm rolled through. >> knocked me over and just took my dog away. >> reporter: in new orleans east the national guard has been called in to help with the clean. the national weather service says the tornado that struck new orleans was at least an ef-2 with winds up to 134 miles an hour. no deaths were reported. gabe gutierrez, nbc news new orleans. a federal judge in philadelphia is live streaming a hearing in the nfl concussion case so retired players can listen in. the hearing involves a $1 billion settlement of thousands of lawsuits which accuses the league of hiding what it knew about repeated concussions. summer savings. >> katie zachry shows us how we

traumatic brain injury. tell us about the treatments you've tried and why oxygen therapy has been successful for you. >> initially starting out, i was inundated with medication and pharmaceuticals. we tried over and over medicines to counter the other. oftentimes 15 pills a day was my regimen. that being said, we looked into yoga, which helped. koi we learned about oxygen therapy. it started to wake up and revive a lot of those places that were asleep. >> liz, you have watched your husband suffer through this and explore alternative therapies. tell us about how oxygen therapy has impacted your family. >> when chuck came home, he was a totally different person.

thank you. >> announcer: now your nbc 10 first alert weather. we're starting out with a look outside ocean city, new jersey. really gorgeous shot though we've got here. you see some of the clouds, the sun breaking through, and it's dry. that's not going to be the case for everyone as we go into tomorrow. areas like ocean city are going to see the least impact from the snowstorm we are tracking for tomorrow morning. let's talk temperatures right now because the shore is looking at some very warm conditions for this time of year. we're at 69 degrees in summers point. we're at 68 cape may courthouse. 64 wood vine. we have got these temperatures right now that are much warmer than average. in fact, i just realized we even have a 70 on the board. i know when you hear these numbers you're not thinking snow tomorrow, but that's what we have in the forecast. a huge turnover as much colder

air is forced in with the next system, but for now areas are warmer than average. 61 degrees in reading. we're at 60 for blend. bethlehem at 56 degrees. we have these temperatures that are going to have to fight to drop as we go overnight. they're going to be right around freezing just as that moisture moves in. around midnight temperatures are going to be plummeting. we're talking a massive drop. we have to drop 30-plus degrees in some areas. from 3:00 to 4:00 in the morning, that's when snow will start north and west of philadelphia, especially near the lehigh valley and berks county. by 9:00 a.m., even down to some of our shore spots in southern delaware, we'll see a rain-snow mix because temperatures will be

falling throughout the entire day. i've fast-forwarded to 2:00 a.m. thursday. snow is starting to set up near berks county and the poconos. these are the areas that will see the highest accumulation because they're seeing the snow for the longest period of time. here we go tracking through 7:00 a.m. now we're getting into your morning commute. the snow has passed through philly. this isn't just a white or a light blue. this is a deeper blue we're seeing on our future radar because this is the more steady to heavy snow we're expecting, meaning visibility may drop as you're driving to work as well. the snow line starts to drop farther south. we see a rain-snow mix move into parts of new jersey and delaware. that's at 7:00 a.m. right into your very early afternoon, noon to 1:00 p.m., we'll see this snow. then it starts to move out of philly. around 2:00 to 3:00, it is going to move offshore so by 7:00 p.m.

we have moved out. we are bitterly cold and windy and we're looking at snow that's accumula accumulated. that purple 6 to 10 inches we are expecting through the poconos, through the lehigh valley and berks county, even into pottstown. these are your northern suburbs. 4 to 6 inches for parts of westchester, brookhaven, mercer county. delco, you're looking at 4 to 6 inches. pemberton in that pink 4 to 6-inch range. delaware closer to 2 to 4 inches for our totals.
