clooney and amal clooney. >> he didn't know the 12-week rule. >> we'll have more on that later. let's start on a friday morning with our top story. president trump vowing to keep fighting for the controversial travel ban, after a panel of judges ruled unanimously against reinstating it. our team has it all covered, beginning with peter alexander. peter, good morning to you. >> reporter: good morning to you. another busy night in washington. the health secretary, tom price, was also confirmed. and president trump is digging in, vowing he is going to prevail before the supreme court, after the federal appeals court unanimously refused to reinstate the president's order, halting visitors and immigrants from seven countries. first the ruling, then the reaction. president trump blasting the court's finding as political. >> this is just a decision that came town. but we're gonna win the case. >> reporter: trump, taking to

twitter. you see in court. the response from washington governor inslee, who instated the ban. >> we saw him in court. he lost. >> reporter: hillary clinton tweeting simply, 3-0. the travel pan fails to give people a chance for a hearing, as well as the rights of people who traveled overseas and want to come back. addressing the government's claim of presidential authority over the borders that can't be second-guessed by judges, the court said, there is no precedent to support this claimed unreviewability. but it did not rule on the states claim that the basis it singled out muslims. first in his first interview since leaving the cia, the ban could be damaging. >> i worry this creating a recruiting tool for the extremists.

treats you the way the president treated me. >> reporter: nordstrom said they wouldn't carry ivanka's products. sean spicer did not say what consequences that conway would face. >> kellyanne has been counsels. he disagreed with that word, counsel. today, the president will hold a news conference with prime minister abe. and president trump said the u.s. would honor one china policy that says that taiwan is a part of china. that's significant. that's a reversal of the earlier suggestion, that it should be on the negotiating table. >> thank you very much. let's bring in pete williams.

good morning to you. the president says see you in court. this is the first full day for jeff sessions as attorney general. how quickly are we going to see action on this? >> probably very quickly. the justice department is saying it's revowing the decision. but it's a virtually certainty, the government will try again. could file something with the supreme court as early as today. >> you read the decision of the ninth circuit court. are there areas in that decision that are left open for the administration to revamp them and go to the supreme court? >> i think it's a matter of emphasis. the probably will probably stress with the supreme court that the president has very broad authority to control the borders and that the courts can't second-guess him. and i think eat's possible the supreme court might be more open to that argument than the appeals court was. >> there's another option for the administration. they can resend this order, rewrite it in a way that doesn't

cause a legal foyer firestorm. that would admit some form of defeat. how likely would that avenue be? >> i think one of the messages of this ruling is if the white house had limited the executive order to just people in those seven countries who want to come here for the first time, that would have been much harder to challenge in court. it's because the orlando was so broad, covering people with green cards, people who have been here before, and want to come back, like the students and the faculties and the universities, the court said it harmed the state. >> pete williams, thank you very much. this marks the president's biggest defeat during the first 100 days of his administration. steve kornacki is here. good to see you. pete is taking us through this. what's the political fallout of this decision? >> it's not uncommon for a president to be shot down by the supreme court. that happens to every president. what's uncommon is donald trump decided to make this the central fight of the early days of his

presidency. going after the judiciary we've never seen. taking to twitter. this is a fundamental test of his clout as president. to suffer a defeat, that's a bigger blow to him. obviously, the fact he set the fight up this way. he believes there's some cover hoare. he can tell his supporters, i tried. >> he's probably also not admitting defeat. three look weeks in. let's lock at a report card we have. he talked about after being sworn in, voter fraud, 3 million people, launching an investigation. where does that stand? >> we had words from the white house at one point he was going to sipp an executive order on this. i think we've got this up here. i wasn't sure if it was going to be loaded. miracles happen. so, donald trump claimed 3 million to 5 million votes were illegally cast. he said there would be an executive order. that executive order, it hasn't come. now, we're hearing it may be

delayed. what's going on here? congressional republicans, donald trump's party, do not want to stand with him on this. donald trump may appoint a commission. his vice president may be in charge of that. right now, that's no longer a top item. >> another progress report. we heard about repeal and replace obama care. they took some early stems in that process. where do we stand? >> a central promise for the campaign for donald trump. he said i will get rid of it. and guess what? there we go. he said he will immediately repeal and replace obamacare. it is a little more complicated than that, just in terms of the benefits people have. for instance, pre-existing season. you're covered no matter what right now. there's a lot of issues to work out. we're getting signals from republicans in congress. and policies are written for the year. this my take a year to go through. >> another thing we heard so much about, in addition to obamacare, the wall. where does that stand?

>> he did sign the executive order. that's what you're seeing right here. january 25th, signed an executive order. a dramatic moment. the question of how to pay for it. he said mexico would pay for it. congress has to come up with some money. no progress there, either. >> really quickly, the kellyanne conway story about the ivanka trump clothing line. is this more serious? >> you have members of congress, saying they want the ethics to lock at it and recommend a punishment. ultimately, it's up to donald trump. does he reach a point where he says enough is enough with the distractions. >> glad that came in for you. well done to our graphics department, as well. now, let's look at the problems left behind by thursday's massive winter storm. temperatures were dipping even lower overnight. we're seeing dangerous

conditions on the roads. and thousands of flights leading to chaos at armts across the country. we have two reports, starting with blake mccoy in boston. good morning to you. >> reporter: good morning. folks across the northeast, digging out after the fast and powerful nor'easter. you can see, 11 inches of snow here. school has been canceled here for a second day. this morning, the northeast is digging out, after the biggest snowfall of the season. 50 million people impacted by the fast-moving nor'easter. in new york city, snow fell at a rate of three inches per hour. in virginia, a trucker died after his truck was swept off the bay bridge tunnel. in connecticut -- >> whoa. that was thundersnow. >> reporter: a rare burst of thundersnow. >> this is something else. >> reporter: and in boston, blizzard conditions made roads

chaos across the country, where we've seen 4,000 flights canceled since wednesday. that was when the storm was first approaching. now, 300 cancellations. we saw 71% yesterday. and that's all of the flights coming in and out. this morning, boston is feeling the pinch. they have seen 62 cancellations and that's just so far. they're warning people to budget some extra time and extra caution. we've seen cities like new york, put out thousands of tons of salt across the airport area roads and parking lots to make sure people can get here safely. if you are planning to fly today, call your carrier because they will know if you're flight is take off. now, an update on a story we told you about thursday. an undocumented woman in the center of an uproar has been

deported. she was taken into custody on wednesday. that prompted a raucous demonstration in phoenix. protesters blocked vans from believing a u.s. immigration office. back in 2008, garcia was found using a fake social security number to work in this country. the mother of two u.s.-born children had no legal basis to remain in this country. back to the scary incident at jfk we told you about at the top of the show. a flight for buenos aires never got off the ground. inside the argentina plane, other pilots reported seeing fire coming from the engine. the plane was checked out and taxied back to the gate and taken out of service. want to tell you a story about a ucla cheerleader who had a bad night. look on the left of your screen.
