over the midwest, from the northwest to the southeast. mostly cloudy to overcast skies right now. after midnight we start to see the introduction of that rain and a wintry mix, a changeover introducing itself into the lehigh valley. so the pink on the map is important because it means sleet. tomorrow, lehigh county, bucks county, berk county, seeing the potential for sleet as well. that's a little bit of an alert there, because my concern would be slick spots, slick roads, slick pavement. i hope you try to pretreat everything if possible because we certainly will see a slick a.m. commute. notice by 10:00 a.m. it looks like we'll get some light snow for parts of mt. pocono. everybody else is getting rain. this will clear offshore eventually. this is an all-day event, not a

washout but widespread. nuisance weather especially for those in the northwestern pocket of the region. for the lehigh valley, i'll have more coming up on what to expect for your sunday and a warm-up by the end of the week. >> erika, thank you. get the latest weather updates tomorrow morning beginning at 5:30 with rosemary connors and krystal klei. breaking news overseas. the south korean military says north korea fired a projectile in a possible effort to advance its missile technology. south korea's defense ministry says the missile was launched from area where other missiles were tested before. the missiles fell between the korean peninsula and japan. about 20 minutes ago president trump and japanese prime minister shinzo abe issued a short statement about north korea, abe calling the missile launch absolutely intolerable, and president trump saying this. >> i just want everybody to understand and fully know that the united states of america

andrea cline-thomas, nbc 10 news. new at 11:00, coming in hot. a bucks county man watched in awe as a balloon made an unexpected landing in his backyard in new hope. you can see the balloon had a nice easy landing. this wasn't an emergency landing. according to the pilot, he chose to land there to avoid muddier spots. demanding justice. a west philadelphia neighborhood showed their frustrations tonight as they remembered an activist murdered in her home. ♪ all in my neighborhood ♪ i'm going to let it shine >> friends and family gathered to remember the life of winifred harris, the acting executive director of university city green a green, an urban gardening nonprofit. police discovered her body in a second floor bedroom, shot multiple times. family and friends say they're

stunned, wondering how she could have been shot on such a small street and no one heard or saw anything. >> there was nothing that she didn't think she could not do. she did it amazingly. >> she leaves behind a daughter and grandchild. there is a $20,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. a final farewell for a corrections officer killed during a prison standoff in delaware. the prison was held today for lieutenant steven floyd in frederica. hundreds of officers came out the to pay their respects to lieutenant floyd. the 47-year-old was found dead thursday morning after a standoff at the correctional center which lasted nearly 24 hours before police raided the facility which houses about 2500 inmates. lieutenant floyd was one of four employees taken hostage. two were released by the

hub at the world trade center. police say she fell 30 feet off an escalator. today marked another weekend of demonstrations across the country and here at home. in springfield, delaware county, supporters of the affordable care act were outside congressman meehan's office. they're asking for a face-to-face meeting and say they'll keep doing this every weekend until he meets with them. congressman meehan's says he continues to meet with his constituents through several formats. in northeast philadelphia today, people urged congress to defend planned parenthood. defund planned parenthood rallies took place across the country. next, the sixers respond to the injury of one of their star players. could the team cool off the heat? we are seeing developing clouds very quickly. in fact the system is way out here, moving through the

a new jersey man is recovering tonight after being pulled from his burning car seconds before it exploded. police rescued him on thursday. about 50 miles east of orlando. the whole thing was caught on dash cam video. the driver has serious injuries. tonight it was a wedding a long time in the making. and a deserving south jersey couple got to exchange vows for free. it was also a moment to put the

pair's cancer struggles out of their mind for at least one night. nbc 10's drew smith explains how it all came together. >> reporter: ashley wood had her dream wedding tonight in deptford. >> very unreal. i can't believe it's finally happening. >> reporter: she felt some nerves as she headed down the aisle. she hasn't had to worry about paying for and putting this all together because a restaurant chose her and kevin to win a free wedding. >> we feel blessed. >> reporter: the restaurant owners have been organizing this for month. we were there around christmas when the couple won the contest. >> congratulations! >> reporter: their plans to marry date back years. but cancer got in the way for both of them. wood is now cancer-free. so handcheck's esophageal cancer unfortunately has spread. >> a tough battle with a lot of strength and courage. >> reporter: he has beaten the

moisture right now. the system that we're tracking is developing across the great lakes. it's headed in our direction. so we do have some rain headed here after midnight and then a wintry mix, a changeover. a lot of sleet expected, especially for the lehigh valley. we do have a winter weather advisory that has been issued starting sunday at 6:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. it includes the lehigh valley. keep that in mind. one of my biggest concerns always in weather is sleet. the roads get slick and of course black ice, keep that in mind, you don't see it, especially if you're driving. allentown, 34 degrees, coatesville, 43. wilmington, 47. trenton, 41. philadelphia, 46 degrees, topped out at 56 today. the record high, 69. the normal high is 43. so the good news is that at least today was warmer. we will be warm tomorrow as well, temperatures above normal. however we do have that rain and

that mix in store. overnight lows ranging between i would say the low 30s for allentown and low 40s for atlantic city. trenton 34. here is your system, starting at 11:00 p.m., we're going to go through this hour by hour with several pause points, nice and slow. notice that the system approaches after midnight. i would say by about 1:00 a.m. but i wanted to start this at 2:30 a.m. as a first pause point, because we're starting to see a changeover, wintry mix. this is sleet headed in our direction. again, from the northwest towards the southeast. at 5:30 a.m., we're seeing lots of sleet in the forecast and some freezing rain. at 8:00 a.m., notice that cities south and east of philadelphia will mainly see widespread rain. i don't expect this to be a washout. however, we may see one or two pockets of heavy downpours. the good news is everything clears offshore after 5:30, 6:00 p.m.

and even those clouds start to clear as a high pressure system starts to dominate. expect the temperatures for tomorrow ranging mainly in the 30s along the lehigh valley to the 40s in the p.a. suburbs. haddonfield, 41. trenton also seeing low 40s. conditions for tomorrow will be a lot warmer. wilmington, 52, along with dover. so we do have those warmer temperatures, especially farther south. your ten-day on 10 brings us that nice warm temperature by next week. but here is the deal. we have to contend with the rain for tomorrow, wintry mix for the northwest. valentine's day looks pretty nice. right now i'm going with mainly clouds. here's sports. erika, thank you.

it turns out joel embiid has a minor meniscal tear in his left knee. the sixers president says they're more concerned with the bone bruise. >> the mri revealed obviously what we thought it to be, a bone bruise. and there was also the recognition that there was a very minor meniscal tear. he's being treated for the bone bruise. the bone bruise treatment and progression towards getting back to play is simply a pattern of loading and recovery and training that ultimately results in him being asymptomatic. then he'll be back on the court. >> embiid received his rookie of the month award for january. second quarter of the game, sixers on the break. cruisin' in, much to the delight
