evacuate. nbc 10 news starts now. whipping winds. we're talking the potential for powerful gusts up to 60 miles an hour. good evening, i'm denise. the strong winds are going to make it foal much colder tomorrow. as you can see from the flags flapping, it's already picking up out there. you're going to to want hold on as you walk outside. now the department of licenses and inspections even put out a warning tonight for property owners and construction crews. el and i said make sure all outdoor objects are secure and use caution tomorrow. the wind and the snow in the northeast are expected to cause another round of flight delays tomorrow. there were a lot of delays today at philadelphia international airport. now let's get the most accurate forecast for your neighborhood for that we go to first alert meteorologist erica martin. >> here's the deal, we have a frontal boundary sliding down from the northwest. it's associated to a low

pressure system. the coastal system will intensify as it approaches new england, but the deal is locally, we're feeling the effects in the sense that wind advisory has already been issued for pennsylvania. we include philadelphia county, montgomery county, chester, delaware county, starting at midnight until 6:00 p.m., everybody here in this light brown. we also have a high wind warning issue starting at midnight until 6:00 p.m. on monday. this includes all of new jersey and all of delaware. the deal is we had that cold front and we also have that intensifying low, so what happens is we to want kind of achieve some kind of balance in the atmosphere so those winds kick up in order to do so. we're going to start off hour by hour, wind gusts starting at midnight when the wind advisory take into effect. we're seeing an increase here of certainly lower for redding, potstown, allentown, and philadelphia. stronger wind gusts for atlantic city, millville and dover as we get this going, pause at 3:00

a.m., the wind gusts will start to pick up a little bit of a westerly push here. and then by early tomorrow morning at 6:00 a.m., you're seeing wind gusts ranging anywhere between 40 and 45 miles per hour, but, denise, they are going to get stronger than this. coming up, i do have your most accurate forecast that we're going to talk about these winds in more detail. back to you. new at 11:00, college basketball player is shot outside his home in a drive by shooting. john davis played for the university. and his team played last night here in philadelphia. nbc 10 andrea cline-thomas is live outside. you talked to the mother. >> reporter: he left the hospital, but he had to return to get some of those bullet fragments taken out of his knee. we talked to a hospital representative just minutes ago, and they confirm that he is still there, but he's also in very good condition. the university john davis led his team to be drexel on

saturday. in front of a crowd that included his family and friends. there was a homecoming for the former high school standout who scored a game high 14 points in ten rebounds. >> john's a guy that always overachieved. always tried hard. and he always played with a great deal of heart. >> high school coach carl was in the stands. after the game, davis didn't head back to maryland with his team, staying at home in philadelphia to attend his son's baby dedication. >> that's all he talks about. and you know how much he's made his life better so he can make his son's life better. it's senseless. >> reporter: just after midnight, a gunman opened fire in the 900 block of south fourth street. according to police, a bullet grazed davis' knee, a 16-year-old was also shot in the thigh. >> guys you grew up with and went tout get something to eat and hanging out, they just got back and unfortunately, you know, is he was just in the wrong place at the right time. >> reporter: they were back in john davis's neighborhood, both

davis and the teenager are recovering. >> it's good to hear his voice. i know he's good. he's in good spirits and hopefully everything will go well when he goes to see the doctor. >> reporter: now john is a senior, still unknown if he'll be able to return for any of these last games of the season. as for police, they have not made an arrest. reporting live in south philadelphia, andrea cline thomas, nbc 10 news. breaking news out of california tonight. police are evacuating an entire town because one of the largest dams in the skrnt in dangerous of collapsing. residents of orville, a town of 16,000 people should head north towards chi co. the orville dam is 75 miles north of sacramento. water started flowing over the emergency spillway yesterday for the first time in it's nearly 50 year history after heavy rainfall. emergency spillway could fail unleashing uncontrolled flood waters from lake orville.

tonight, four people are in the hospital in north philadelphia after police say they suffered from possible carbon monoxide poisoning. it happened at two homes near the corner of 12 and west williams street just after 2:30 this afternoon. firefighters broke into one of the homes to rescue two of the victims. neighbors got the green light to go back inside their home a short time later. and new at 11:00, firefighters in atlantic city got more than they expected after going into this home to put out a fire early this morning. police say the house is abandoned, but crews found needles scattered all over the floor, and there were drugs in every room of the home. one firefighter suffered from burns, but investigators say it was minor. the fire was quickly put out, no word yet on a cause. this week, we could see president trump's rewritten executive order on a travel ban. now the president is back in washington after spending the weekend in florida with the

prime minister of japan. on friday, the president said he expected to announce a new version of the travel ban monday or tuesday. president trump is promising more security. today on "meet the press" a white house spokesman said they're not ruling out further court action here. and later this week, president trump is meeting with israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu. shut down, berks. the message from demonstrators who gathered outside the recreational center. houses dozens of immigrants seeking asylum in the u.s. and still waiting for immigration hearings. a new memo from the department of justice says those hearings could soon be expedited. and some of the detainees have been held here for up to 16 months. new details tonight on hate fliers dropped off in south jersey neighborhoods.

tonight since 6:00, more people in maple shade found the recruitment letters for a hate group. nbc 10 drew smith joins us live from the police department and drew, people found these hate fliers today? >> reporter: yeah, and they may have been place jovrd night, denise. police have been out and about tonight looking for more of these. it's a plastic bag with just a piece of paper in it weighed down by rice. and what's inside, many people consider to be messages of hate. rita first thought someone had dropped off a valentine's card when she saw the heart on this flier. but then she read a little for. >> this is very disturbing to me. >> reporter: the hearts outline the word, love your own race and stop homosexuality and race mixing. >> doesn't make any sense at all. >> reporter: they asked people to join the clan and it wasn't just in a neighborhood where someone dropped these off. >> it's unsettling, even for the neighbors. >> reporter: right in maple shade, people found the same

fliers, but now town leaders are working to drown out the words of hate with a show of support for people who found these. >> the town will rally around them. there's no room for that kind of hate here in maple shade. >> reporter: there is an out of state area phone code number listed on here that we chose to blur out. when we called, went straight to a recorded message. >> greetings, you have reached the most active clan in america. >> reporter: rita says it's important to understand where hate comes from, and how people can try to overcome it. >> they're afraid of something. what is it? what drives that fear? how can they not see the humanity in another person, regardless of what god they pray to or what color their skin is? >> reporter: police are asking anyone else who finds more to give them a call right away. we're live in maple shade, i'm drew smith, nbc 10 news. the morning commute should run smoother this week. the transit agency will add more

rail cars to the market frankfurt line just in time for tomorrow's morning commute. dozens of trains from service at the start of last week because of cracks found on two subway cars. crews are working to speed up repairs to get even more cars back on the track very soon. if you ride and want to get a key card, new kiosks are going up at three main locations tomorrow morning. they'll be available at all broad street line stations, all market line stations and major bus loops. reloadable cards will eventually replace magnetic strips, passes, and paper transfers. well a first alert traffic warning for the morning in chester county. penndot is shutting down the street road ridge in the township. the bridge will be closed for seven months while crews replace it with a new one. it's scheduled to reopen on september 1st. well tomorrow in delaware county, chester's mayor will hold a news conference

just been issued. tomorrow, temperatures ranging between the upper 30s for the most part. as we hit the suburbs, seeing some 40s there. philadelphia county seeing upper 30s to 40s for you. it looks like we're also seeing lots of 40s for new jersey,glass bro, 42 degrees, avalon, 43, gaalaway also seeing low 40s. mid to upper 40s for delaware, wilmington, 47, and dover, 44, and your expected high temperature, your ten day on 10, a gusty, dangerously gusty monday in the forecast, heads up now, one of my bigger concerns would be the debris, of course, on tuesday, valentine's day, temperatures are in the 40s. we have a breezy wednesday into thursday. we could see some flurries for the lee high valley on wednesday and notice by next weekend, temperatures will climb into the 50s, a nice weekend, but again, tonight into tomorrow, take of course a lot of caution because we do have the threat of those strong storms and of course those really strong wind gusts. here's danny in just a bit. erica, thanks.

hi i'm first alert meteorologist erica martin. right now we are tracking some severe thunderstorms moving in from the northwest associated with frontal boundaries. satellite radar image picking up on storm cells tracking through the area. wilmington, looks like you will see active weather. we're already seeing downed trees and flying debris. keep in mind, that's going to be a big issue. and we're really not even in the thick of it yet. we do have an issue as far as high wind warning is concerned. so that i do have coming up in

we are bracing for possible wind damage and power outages. check out the flags down on the brandon franklin parkway. now here's a look at south philadelphia, you see the wind turbines on top of lincoln financial field. erica martin is tracking severe thunderstorm warnings now, erica. >> that's right, denise. earlier i was talking to our engineers because those wind turbine were not moving. here's the deal, you can see how quickly they're picking up. satellite radar image picking up on storm cells moving through. severe storm threat starting now until midnight. keep that in mind. these are coming in fast and furious. simply because we have a cold front sweeping on down from the northwest. and we also have a coastal system that's developing pretty much hanging around the coast of new england, but it is strong enough and intensifying enough to bring that cold front down just enough to cause some damage. right now, we are seeing wind damage reports also some downed

trees, you can notice here, here's one of your icons just to the west of us here, locally, we have storm cells headed in our direction. so approximately 11:40 p.m. east nottingham, may see activity moving through just after midnight for you. so keep in mind, this system and these storm cells will be tracking from the northwest towards the southeast. and i'd like to emphasize this because look at all of the wind damage that we're already seeing. and these storm cells just got here. a wider perspective, here's why, you can actually see the frontal boundary sweeping on down and just offshore you can see the center of that low pressure system rotating. these are the ingredients that we need to go ahead and pull down all of that energy into our direction. right now, we have a high wind warning that has been issued starting at midnight until 6:00 p.m. on monday and here you can actually also see the severe thunderstorm warning that has been issued. keep in mind, we're expecting wind speeds to range anywhere

the hospital in north philadelphia after police say they suffered from possible carbon monoxide poisoning. it happened twoot hom-- at two t after 2:30 this afternoon. firefighters broke into one of the homes to rescue two of the victims. this weekend, federal officials carried out raids in california arresting a detainee undocumented immigrant. inside a church in south philadelphia today, a group started practicing a new idea to help people who could be detained. nbc 10's lauren meek shows how it's being done. >> law enforcement operation, take five feet back. >> reporter: in south philadelphia, they're role-playing. ♪ they're practicing what to do if i.c.e. agents show up to take medicine into custody. >> they can't leave to find sanctuary in a congregation. so what we're doing is bringing the congregation to them. >> reporter: in this exercise, the group on the left side of your screen is playing the

me is 500 people in the philadelphia region will be trained to respond to an i.c.e. enforcement. south philadelphia, i'm lauren meek, nbc 10 news. i.c.e. responded tonight by saying i.c.e. rarely conducts targeted enforcement operations during which additional resources and personnel are dedicated to of a-ending deportable foreign nationals. all enforcement activities are conducted with the same level of professionalism and respect that i.c.e. officers exhibit every day. well the topic of sangt cities also came up during and interview this morning with chris christie. he was asked to give a message to residents in new jersey about the crackdown on illegal immigration and here's what he said. >> the federal government should be enforcing federal law. and they have to make clear the federal law will be enforced. if that's the president's desire, he should make sure that's done. on the state level, we're doing the things we've always done in new jersey to try to keep our streets safe. that's why our prison population

black history month continues. a pioneer in the field of radiology. she is at the forefront of ground-breaking medicine that's diagnosing and operating on babies still in the womb. nbc 10's erin coleman has the story. >> good morning, i'm dr. coleman. >> reporter: every day, dr. beverly coleman is on a mission to find out what's really going on inside mother's to be. >> these patients have been told that during their pregnancy, something was seen that wasn't good. >> reporter: so they come from all over the world to children's hospital of philadelphia in search of answers. and virtually all of them go through her. >> this is an extremely difficult time for the family. and unfortunately, i give a lot more bad news than i give good news. here is the fetal nose. >> reporter: but some days, there is good news.

1970s. starting out at the university of pennsylvania. but she says it hasn't always been easy over the years she's had patients question her ability. >> when i entered the room, i could tell that they were surprised that i looked. >> reporter: and she's consistently been one of the first and few african americans in the nation among her peers. then and even now. >> in this day and age, you don't want to be the only one in the room. you want to be able to share your expertise with someone who you feel will continue what you try to do. >> reporter: but for coleman, it always comes back to the medicine. last year she became one of the first black female doctors at children to have an endowed chair in her name. and while she's used to working with mom, she's a mom herself. mine. which makes telling her story a little extra special. >> i feel at the end of the day

until midnight. i want to express to you that these storm cells are moving quickly. your cold front is sliding down from the northwest, your associated low is offshore. right now we can see some damage reports already being reported and here's the timing as they continue to work through the northwest towards the southeast. so here is the deal, we have a frontal boundary sliding down, the winds are starting to pick up quite a bit. wilmington, looks like you'll see action just after midnight. glass bro, just after 1:00 a.m., vineland, approximately 1:23 a.m. and cape may, right around 2:00 a.m. you're going to see an increase in the wind speeds and possibly some wind damage. so a already getting some wind reports, wind damage reports that is. now, the center of the low pressure system is hanging off the coast of new england and that cold front is sliding down. the two ingredients together of course will allow all of this to take place. this is where can why we're seeing an increase in the wind
