no one was hurt here and it's not clear what started that fire. now to the fallout after the resignation of president trump's national security adviser. >> nbc news has learned that the president learn several weeks ago that michael flynn wasn't truthful when talking about his conversations with russia before the inauguration. flynn stepped down last night amid reports he misled white house officials including the vice president about his contacts with russia. he initially told them that he did not discuss sanctions with russia's ambassador to the u.s. but he later conceded the issue may have come up. a senior official also says that then acting attorney general sally yates told the white house last month that flynn was vulnerable to blackmail. kellyanne conway told the "today" show this morning that the situation became unsustainable. >> he here is the misleading of the vice president and others, the complete information or the inability to completely recall what did or did not happen as

court today. pat toomey welcomed neil gorsuch to his office this morning. president trump named gorsuch as his pk spk nominee last month. toomey called gorsuch's credentials sterling. he echoed those sentiments today. >> i'm absolutely a yes vote for the nomination for judge gorsuch barring some unanticipatable knocking discovery that i'm quite confident will not occur. so yes, i'm intending to enthusiastically vote in favor of judge gorsuch. >> senator toomey just issued this statement. it's clear to me that judge gorsuch is eminent my qualified and understands the proper role of a judge. senator toomey says he looks forward to judge gorsuch's hearing. he also met with chris coons today. he's among the democrats that says that gorsuch deserves a hearing despite the fact that republicans blocked president obama's pick for the supreme court last year.

hopewell township after two cars and a tractor trailer collided. you see them on the side of the road. no one was seriously hurt but the northbound lanes were closed while crews clean up everything. tonight the push to create a new type of amber alert system for hit and run investigations. it officially kicked off. j-alerts are named in honor of jayana powell, the 8-year-old hit and killed by a hit and run drive while walking home from school last november. the j-alerts would go to cell phones, tvs, and to auto body shops where someone might take a damaged car. they created legislation that now must be debated in harrisburg. the owner of the former revel casino is still two permits shy of getting the go ahead to open the property known as ten. glen straub had planned the

opening for the weekend, but he still needs a amerimerkicantile license. a teacher has resigned for inappropriately texting a pair of students. david borghesani was suspended from whitehall high school. the attorney general is still investigating but has yet to file charges. to california where there's progress at the scene of a damage on the brink of a catastrophic failure. crews are using helicopters to drop giant rock-filled backs into a hole at the lake oroville emergency spillway. if the spillway fails a 30-foot wall of water could destroy communities below it. people have been evacuated. >> for something that's so chaotic, everybody is coming together. the way it's working out, it's awesome. >> what's going through your mind right now? >> a lot. i'm scared. i'm just living day to day.

>> authorities say the evacuation orders will remain in place until repairs are made. the home of the national champion villanova wildcats basketball team is in line for a makeover. the university is approving a $60 million renovation for the pavilion. the pavilion is 31 years old. this was the scene last april as students stream from the arena after watching the wildcats win the national title. the renovation work is scheduled to begin in june. more than a hundred delaware students will be going to out of state colleges but paying in-state tuition. that's thanks to delaware's participation in a special program. that program is the academic common market. more than 100 southern colleges provide in-state tuition for residents pursuing majors not offered at the university of delaware or delaware state university. the son of convicted child molester jerry sandusky is sitting in a pennsylvania jail

waiting for a hearing on his own child sex abuse charges. >> jeffrey sandusky was arrested yesterday more than four years after his adoptive father was found guilty. randy gyllenhaal spoke with local penn state students about the arrest they say has brought back bad memories. >> reporter: at the main campus up in state college and satellite campuses like this one in abington, students are once again reacting with disgust but saying that the sanduskies do not represent their school. five years after penn state coach jerry sandusky was arrested for child sex abuse this week his 41-year-old son jeffrey facing similar charges reopening old wounds that shook the penn state community. >> then i saw that it was the son. and i was like, that's no good. >> reporter: a freshman says the campus has moved on from the first sandusky scandal, adding that, unlike his father, jeffrey sandusky has no affiliation with penn state. >> i don't think it really

condition, now you just see thin clouds and the sun peeking through very nice as we get to the end of our day. if you have plans tonight for valentine's day, you should be fine to be outside for maybe some brief periods as you head to the restaurant. here's a look at temperatures in the philadelphia area. 44 degrees for our center city location and for society hill. the airport right now checking in at 45 degrees and we're also at 44 for chestnut hill. same deal, 44 right now. 44 is actually the average high for today. a pretty typical day we look at when we see those temperatures outside. radar and satellite, not a lot to track out there. no rain, no snow, temperatures in the 40s. we did have thicker clouds this morning. those have moved off to the south. still lingering in delaware and then thinner clouds through the rest of the region. that's about it for the rest of our day. we're not expecting any big changes as we go through. let's talk tomorrow, though. winds will be picking up. in the northwest, gusts even a

little higher. temperature wise we also are picking up. 52 for the forecast high in fairmoupt, tacony you're at 50, schwenksville, and mid-40s for the lehigh valley berks county area, up to 45. allentown at 46 degrees. robbinsville at 49. along the shore points at the low 50s as well. but more clouds there because we're tracking a system that will move along to the south of us. it's not likely we'll see much if any precipitation for the shore or southern delaware, but we could see brief rain at the beginning of the day. a little cloudier as well. delaware, newark, 50 for dover and there's that isolated chance of spotty showers passing by. this will be a situation that will move by just briefly in the morning hours. let's talk about the winds for tomorrow. this is related to that system. winds will be 10 to 15 miles per hour. a few spots picking up.

18 wilmington. that's the sustained winds. gusts, though, 25 to 30 miles per hour. this isn't as strong as yesterday when we had gusts 40 to 50 miles per hour. but it is strong enough that you're going to notice it as you get out the door. the hour by hour forecast, this is what i was talking about with the rain chances. tomorrow morning 6:00 a.m. our model shows rain clipping southern delaware. it may be able to clip cape may county but this won't be long lasting and because this is the tail end of this system or the outer edge, i should say, we're not talking heavy rain. it will clip on by and really leave us in the clear. notice right around 4:30 maybe isolated flurries in the poconos or the lehigh valley. so overall wednesday looking to be a pretty dry day. here's the ten h-day on 10, mor windy and cooler on thursday. 42 for the forecast. through the weekend, check this out. 64 your forecast high by sunday.

we should be in the low 50s in parts of the philadelphia neighborhoods. in the suburbs we're at 34, 7:00 a.m. by noon. then slips to 42 degrees. lehigh valley making it to 40s. cloudy to more partly cloudy conditions. delaware will be interesting, northern delaware completely dry, southern delaware in the morning could see light rain pass through. temperatures will be in the mid to upper 30s. at 48 by noontime and 46 by 4:00 p.m. new jersey 36 at 7:00 a.m. and some clouds hanging overhead, but we stay dry. again the shore is another spot where cape may county we may see light rain but that will be short lived. the bulk of the system will be out of reach for our area. we do stay pretty dry. winds 8:00 a.m. in the morning still light. but watch in the afternoon. you start to see that boost. 3:00 p.m., around 22-mile-per-hour winds gust.

wouldn't be surprised by some gusts up to around 30 miles per hour for your wednesday. that puts us in that breezy to windy range. now really picking it up. now above the 30-mile-per-hour gust mark. and some spots throughout your thursday could see gusts up to 40 miles per hour. there you see 4:00 p.m., close to 40 pretty much across the entire board. windy conditions are in the forecast both your wednesday and your thursday when you're tracking that. here's a look at the ten-day on 10. 52 wednesday is a little slip for thursday with the more gusty conditions that we're expecting. look through the rest of the work week and into that weekend. temperatures boost up big time for the weekend. saturday at 58. sunday 64 and even monday at 62 for some folks who may have that long weekend. >> so this is your first winter in the northeast after moving here from arizona. you're probably thinking, i got this, this is nothing.

local congressmen. lauren mayk reached out to lawmakers from both parties. this could lead to even more tension on capitol hill. >> reporter: erin and keith, it already is. tonight we're filling in some of the gaps of the timeline of how all of this happened. the white house saying the president found out several weeks ago that general flynn hadn't been truthful about his conversations. the press secretary also saying the president didn't ask flynn to talk about sanctions with russia but that it was not a violation to do so. now, for this new administration, it is all opening up even more questions about trust, security and russia. after 25 days in the trump administration and months on the campaign trail general michael flynn is out. but his resignation doesn't end the controversy over his contact with the russia ambassador to the u.s. democratic senator from pennsylvania bob casey saying there should be an investigation. >> i would hope the white house would do today is to lay out what they know and to be open to an independent investigation.
