standoff started and police will not say if there are any hostages in the house. also at 11:00, new questions are swirling about the trump administration's collections to moscow. good morning, i'm vai sikahema. >> and i'm tracy davidson. president trump is renewing his attack on the media as the controversy grows over his administration's connections with russia. the president tweeted this morning the fake news media is going crazy with their conspiracy theories and blind hatred. another tweet, the real scandal here is that classified information is illegally given out by intelligence like candy. very un-american. national reporter edward lawrence has more on the new evidence linking the president's campaign to russia. >> reporter: who knew what when? familiar questions being asked now of the trump administration following the resignation of

national security adviser michael flynn. congressional investigations are pending. >> i see him coming before us and testifying if that can be done. >> if it's an independent commission modelled after others in the past, it can have the power to bring in this necessary information. >> reporter: the official explanation from sean spicer is their legal counsel went there a legal review process to determine if flynn broke the law. spicer says he didn't. the president decided he couldn't trust flynn. >> whether or not he actually misled the vice president was the issue and that was ultimately what led to the president asking for and accepting the resignation of general flynn. >> reporter: to add to the controversy, "the new york times" is reporting a year before the election president trump's campaign staff had repeated contact with russian intelligence officials. >> right now there doesn't seem to be any sort of normal course

international relations explanation for this. >> reporter: the times reports federal agencies tried to determine if there was collusion between the russians and the trump campaign. members of congress are taking action to make sure russian sanctions stay in place. in the last hour a bipartisan group of lawmakers announced new legislation that would ensure russian sanctions would stay in place until relief is earned. >> it's about america's security, about dealing with a bully in vladimir putin who means us harm. and i hope the house acts quickly to pass this legislation. >> similar bills will be put before the house and senate. two big developments in the middle east peace process. a secret meeting what happened between the cia chief and the leader of the palestinians. two palestinian leaders say mike pompeo was in the west bank

yesterday. the meeting was described as warm and positive. the second big meeting is happened between donald trump and benjamin netanyahu. the two will hold a joint news conference. netanyahu follows that up with meetings on capitol hill with both republican and democratic leaders in the house and senate. immigration and customs enforcement agents took two people into custody in philadelphia last night. >> the movement sparked a demonstration. >> reporter: i called the regional spokesperson for ice to see if i could get some more information on those two people that were taken into custody. i have not heard back yet, but i would like to show you some video of the incident we're referencing. this is video of a shackled man and a woman being escorted to

ice headquarters. i talked with mayor jim kenney who said the city has very little information at this point as to what the circumstances were is that led up to their detention. philadelphia is a sanctuary city, and mayor kenney has been very outspoken about protecting the immigrant community here in philadelphia. at a press conference today at the flower show, mayor kenney said this. >> i'm thankful that holland is not on the travel ban list. [ laughter ] >> the last few weeks in america have been very difficult and i think that the civilizing equitable, sustainable loving attitude of the dutch will permeate the city and make all of our immigrants feel a little safer, a little more appreciated, and i think we need it right now. >> reporter: and we talked to mayor kenney one on one after

those remarks. his message that philly is and will continue to be a safe place for all people. you'll hear more from that interview when i see you again at 11:30. in west philadelphia, firefighters rescued one person from a burning home. sky force 10 was over 46th and locust streets shortly after crews finished putting out the house fire. there's no word yet on the victim's condition or how the fire started. sky force 10 was over a hazmat situation in university city. a suspicious powder was found in the irs building at market. there was no threat and police gave the all clear. showers could move through today. here's a live look at one of those spots, cape may, new jersey. the windy weather will make a come back.

erika martinez here with our forecast. >> if you look on satellite and radar image, we're seeing two different systems. one to the south that will affect us, especially for the shore points. new castle not going to be a washout, but not going to be a totally dry day. we do have clouds. we're seeing a mix here. some greens here telling us we have some rain but also some purples and some pinks. a little bit of a wintry mix. we'll see a changeover for parts of lehigh valley. notice we get this into motion. we're seeing some showers move in from the northwest to the southeast. we have a little bit of a changeover for parts of mt. pocono and the lehigh valley. otherwise everybody else getting one or two isolated showers moving across northwest towards the southeast. philadelphia also seeing some

scattered showers moving through. at 4:00 p.m. still seeing some moisture creeping offshore. certainly not going to be a washout for today. but the next weather story would be those increasing wind speeds and wind gusts. starting at 11:00 a.m., we can see how quickly these wind gusts start to kick up behind that cold front. by 2:30, 3:30 into 4:00, wind gusts up to 40. we're seeing lots of 40s in and around philadelphia. fox chase, 44. coming up, i have your ten-day forecast because we're going to see 60s by saturday. back to you.

philadelphia police are investigating a shooting outside of a gentlemen's club. witnesses say a man fired 15 shots at a group of people as they were leaving the club on castor avenue and port richmond late last night. there was no evidence that any of those people were shot. police are shooting for the shooter. new castle county police are searching for the men who kidnapped a woman and forced her to withdraw money from an atm. a man pointed a gun at her and shoved her into an suv. the robber also punched the victim before letting her go. neighbors say they got an e-mail alert from the apartment complex management. >> it's somebody's mom. it's somebody's daughter. they wouldn't want that gun to their family. >> police are checking to see if there's any surveillance video of the crime. now to delaware county where new video of an attack of a septa officer is getting a lot

of attention on social media. the suspect grabbed the female officer and forcibly kissed her while she was on patrol at the 69th street transportation center. the officer was not injured. the man is facing several charges including assault and harassment. >> time now to get a check of the roads if you're heading out. jessica boyington is watching them for us. >> pretty quiet commute right now for the most part on the boulevard. this is the boulevard right around broad street where we have some lane restrictions here on the southbound side. one lane getting by. it is all moving along nicely. a little bit of a delay approaching the scene. northbound side looks okay. there's a disabled vehicle out in abington. we'll end here on the bridges because we see some construction here as well. over the ben franklin bridge two

new defense secretary took part of his first meeting in brussels today. >> the nato secretary general introduced the defense secretary to a number of delegates before the meeting began. there are two days of talking focused on military spending, extremism, and relations with russia. mattis told the allies there they must start chipping in toward the cost of nato by the end of the year or the trump administration will moderate its

commitment to them. >> the european minister of defense said last week it's a fair demand that all who benefit from the best defense in the world carry their proportionate share of the necessary cost to defend freedom. >> mattis also said the nato alliance remains a fundamental bedrock. rex tiller son makes his first overseas trip today. according to the state department, tillerson will meet with saudi arabian officials and other middle east countries to discuss yemen. there are multiple reports that tillerson may meet with the russian foreign minister. >> announcer: now you're nbc 10 first alert weather. >> i'm first alert meteorologist erika martin. a live look outside right now. we're seeing overcast skies across philadelphia. that's to be expected because we

do have a lot of moisture headed in our direction. otherwise if you look at the bottom of your screen, you'll see your local seven-day neighborhood forecast. winds very mild. we're seeing 3 mile per hour wind speeds in millville. 8 for wilmington. coatesville, 5 mile per hour wind speeds. but we'll see an increase in those wind speeds and wind gusts from the northwest. we're seeing a little activity just to the south here. in fact some light returns moving across parts of cape may county. otherwise everything for the most part right now is mainly dry. we are seeing clouds. to the northwest, we're seeing activity moving down from the northwest towards the southeast. in fact some light returns just entering parts of the lehigh valley. let's zoom in just a little bit. mt. pocono, you'll see a little bit of a changeover. a wintry mix and perhaps some light snow. otherwise neighborhoods right now for the jersey shore, that's where you're seeing perhaps one or two scattered showers moving

through. cape may courthouse currently at 44 degrees. wood vine, 42 for you. egg harbor township, 43. milder temperatures right now. in south jersey, lots of 40s and 30s. mount laurel currently at 36. florence, 41. hope well township, 38 degrees. princeton one degree cooler at 37 for you. but what about the lehigh valley? slightly cooler temperatures. nazareth, 38. bethlehem one degree warmer. let's time out those light scattered showers and those wind gusts. 11:00 a.m., we're seeing those light returns we just picked up on satellite and radar. there's your activity moving on down from the northwest. there is your cold front. so notice by 1:00 p.m. we start

to see a little bit of a changeover, some pinks and some blues. some greens moving through part of philadelphia county. again, not going to be a washout. at 4:00 p.m. we start to see the back edge of this system for most of us, but still seeing some light wintry mix there for parts of the lehigh valley. 5:30 p.m. a couple of flurries moving through parts of bucks county. otherwise this is going to be a mainly dry day. we're seeing 27 mile per hour wind gusts for pottsville. trenton, 23 mile per hour wind gusts. they top out a little bit stronger, especially across parts of the jersey shore. philadelphia, notice here we start to see a decrease in those clouds by 6:00 p.m. temperatures in the 40s. that will be a trend because a high pressure system starting to

this morning president trump is criticizing reports that his campaign had contacts with russia ahead of the presidential election. those reports come as the president welcomed israel's prime minister to the white house. president trump is firing back today over allegations that his administration is too close to russia. >> peter alexander lays out the new evidence that the president's team was in touch with russian intelligence during his campaign. >> reporter: this morning new scrutiny over contacts between members of donald trump's 2016 campaign and russia. "the new york times" reporting overnight citing current and former u.s. officials that trump campaign aides and senior russian intelligence officials had repeated contacts during the campaign. something the trump administration has previously denied. the times reports those communications were intercepted around the time u.s. officials were uncovering evidence of russia's meddling in the u.s. election by hacking the dnc.

meanwhile the shock waves are still reverberating after the president asked mike flynn to resign. >> there needs to be an independent and transparent investigation. >> i don't think we need to go through setting up a special committee, but we are going to look at russian involvement in the u.s. election. >> reporter: the white house is acknowledging new details about the timeline. it was back on january 26th when president trump and his top aides were first informed flynn had misled vice president pence and others about his calls with the russian ambassador and they warned flynn could be vulnerable to blackmail. a news report would be published that would cast doubt on pence's creditability. >> the question wasn't did he do anything improper or illegal. it was a question of could he be

trusted further. that trust or the erosion of that trust was frankly the issue. >> reporter: in an interview with a conservative website, a defiant flynn insisted he crossed no lines instead blaming leaks by reporters of classified information. the president interviewed flynn about his contacts with the russian ambassador. h mike pompeo and keith kellogg took part in white house briefings. robert harward is the frontrunner to replace flynn. harward met with the president and vice president at the white house on monday night, but so far no decision has been made. >> that was nbc's peter alexander reporting.

the news conference with president trump and prime minister netanyahu is set for noon today. we'll bring it to you live when it happens. and happening now in washington, members of congress are talking to the media about the michael flynn scandal. house minority leader nancy pelosi is calling for a deeper investigation. democrats are asking for donald trump to release his tax returns to see if there were any russian connections there. they're also criticizing the president's immigration policies. president trump is tweeting today in response to the latest russian controversy. he said, quote, crimea was taken by russia during the obama administration. was obama too soft on russia? mr. trump also tweeted this russian connection nonsense is an attempt to cover up the many mistakes made in hillary clinton's losing campaign. russia says it has no intention of turning control of crimea back to ukraine. that's the word from russia's

foreign ministry. it is in response to comments yesterday from the white house that president trump has made it clear that he expects russia to give up the territory. delaware senator tom carper joins a course of calls from other congressman for an independent prosecutor to investigate the trump administration. the senator wants the attorney general to an appoint an independent counsel to look into communications between michael flynn and the russian government. he joins a list of senators asking for the independent investigation. officials believe conway may have broken the code of conduct by endorsing ivanka trump's fashion line during a tv interview. the office of government ethics made a letter public yesterday

telling white house lawyers to make it clear at the end of the month what they want to do with the matter. the delaware county native came out of retirement two years ago to leave the secret service after a series of scandals. he is a villanova graduate. he's stepping down for personal reasons. philadelphia's mayor is reacting to a pair of aurrests last night in the city by immigration customs authorities. >> we are arrive in center city. >> reporter: first of all, i want to say it's been nearly 20 hours since both of those people were taken into custody. we've called and we've e-mailed, and so far we have not gotten a response from ice about why the man and later the woman you're going to see in this exclusive video were taken into custody. their detention prompted this

protest outside of ice headquarters. last night a spokesperson with ice would only say, quote, ice is currently determining how to best implement policies and guidance to carry out the executive order. officials here in philadelphia have also been trying to find out what led up to their detention. i spoke to mayor kenney about it. he says ice hasn't given them any information either about why these two people were picked up. >> the actions of ice, the actions of and the comments and words of our president are going to drive people underground. it's as simple as that. there's no need for it. there's no need for a lot of these raids to be conducted in broad daylight. doesn't take a lot of courage to make women and children cry. i guess that's where we are right now in this country. >> reporter: mayor kenney emphasizing that philly is and will continue to be a safe and welcoming place for immigrants. as for the advancing efforts in the senate to block sanctuary

cities, mayor kenney says he's not sure why people who don't live in philly are concerned about who does. he added our immigrants are welcomed here as well as immigrants from across the state. reporting live in center city, i'm pamela osborne. nbc 10 news. new this morning the senate voted to block an obama administration rule requiring background checks for certain social security recipients before they could buy a gun. the measure involved people who are mentally incapable of managing their own affairs. the resolution passed the house earlier this month. a judge is hearing arguments right now in the case of a minnesota police officer charged in the death of a black motorist last year. the officer shot and killed philando castillo during a traffic stop last july. his girlfriend live streamed the aftermath on social media which brought it to the attention of the public. attorneys for the officer have asked the judge the dismiss the

manslaughter case against their client. there may be another evacuation order. residents returned home yesterday after helicopters dropped huge boulders into holes along the spillway of the oroville dam. those residents could have to leave home again if the repairs don't hold. a woman is under arrest in the apparent assassination of half brother of north korea's leader. >> he was estranged from the family. he had questions his brother's rule. experts speculate north korea sent a hit squad to kill the possible threat to kim jong-un's leadership. harrison ford accidentally touched down on the taxi way

goal. barney daley is technically retired retired, but he hasn't really stopped working. >> what could be a better cause than finding a cure for childhood cancer? >> reporter: it was his idea to open this delaware county thrift shop all for alex's lemonade stand. >> we have knickknacks. we have clothes. we have children's items. >> reporter: after covering the cost of overhead and a small staff, the proceeds go right to charity. the one challenge they face is their isolated neighborhood location. still donations pour in and daley makes it easy. they'll pick up the big ones directly from your home. >> this is the first thrift shop in the united states for the benefit of alex's lemonade stand and the only one as of right now. it's a great cause, and we want to try to raise as much money as we can for them.

with a trail blazing congresswoman. i spoke to representative lisa blunt rochester about making history in delaware. >> we just made history. [ applause ] >> reporter: lisa blunt rochester truly has made history. this past november she became the first woman and first african-american to reach the state of congress from the state of delaware. >> i'm honored to be the first woman and first person of color, but i really hope it encourages more people to get involved in the process. >> reporter: i talked with congresswoman rochester in washington only a few days into her new term about history and about a chance to attend the inauguration. >> this martin luther king holiday when i was going through quotes. i found one that said we are not history makers. we're making history.

ran onto the court. he then scored the most points on senior night. the special needs students has been the team's manager for the past two seasons. all players were willing to give up their spot so kyle could play. >> i'm very lucky to be on the court because coach richie wanted me to help win the team's tonight's game. it's an organization that brings faith and fun center stage, and it's teaching children in our area some pretty valuable lessons along the way. this year catholic community choir is celebrating its tenth anniversary. we have the president and founder of catholic community choir and he is here with a freshman at cardinal hill high school. thank you both for being here. tell us about catholic community choir and what exactly you offer

the children who participate in it. >> so thanks for having us. catholic community choir was founded in 2007. we are a children's theater singing group, so throughout the year we do musicals, fall musical, spring musical. in the summer, we do short musicals for kids under the ages of kindergarten and ninth grade. >> "beauty and the beast" is the next show you're performing. tina, you were just telling me you play the part of mrs. potts. >> yes. >> tell me what your experience has been with catholic community choir. >> it's been amazing. i've been there since the third grade in their first production of "beauty and the beast." each show i just get to grow in acting, and my singing voice improves every time. and i learn so much about my faith. it's the best experience. >> so in the third grade, you couldn't have been mrs. potts. >> no. >> this is you as dorothy.
