of chaos in his white house. >> tomorrow the headlines are going to be, donald trump rants and raves. good evening, i'm jacqueline london. >> i'm jim rosenfield. the president's marathon session at the podium today. his first solo news conference as president. >> he touched on fake news, his election win, russia and isis. lauren mayk joins us in studio. >> this was the reporters' chance to ask big questions. but it was the president's chance to defend his administration. he called russia fake news. michael flynn was just doing his job. he attacked the leaks to the press. >> the tone is such hatred. >> at the first solo news conference of his administration, president trump taking on the media. and the people leaking information to them. president trump now almost one month in.

giving an assessment of what he's facing. >> to be honest, i inherited a mess. it's a mess. at home and abroad. a mess. >> on his travel ban, a preview and a defense of the original one. >> parts are necessary and constitutional actions were blocked by a judge's, in my opinion, incorrect and unsafe ruling. >> not just policy but election politics here. >> i guess it was the biggest l elector electoral college win since ronald reagan. >> why should americans trust you when you accuse information of being fake? >> actually, i've seen that information around. >> the news conference lasted more than an hour. and the back and forth with reporters leading the president to this prediction. >> tomorrow, they will say, donald trump rants and raves at the president. i'm not ranting and raving, i'm just telling you, you're dishonest people. >> we did get a little more information on that new travel ban executive order. the president saying it would be tailored to the court ruling on it. the ruling he does not agree with. jacqueline? and the president also blamed democrats for delays in getting approval for cabinet nominees. delaware democratic senator chris coons responded. today's news conference left some lawmakers shocked and a little confused. at least one republican senator responded almost immediately on msnbc. >> i do take very seriously the fact that you have one president

at a time and that if mr. flynn was directly involved in talking about sanctions and what would happen in the future, then i think that's a serious charge, a serious issue. >> president trump announced his administration will release a new executive order on immigration next week. to this now, immigrants around the nation boycotting work and school today in protest to the president's policy. >> nbc 10's aundrea cline-thomas joins us live from queen village with more on a day without immigrants where they really wanted to make an impact and let it be felt. >> reporter: that's right. you can see it right here at this intersection. there are two different approaches to this. sam's morning glory has been closed all day in support of the immigrant walkout. over here the pizza shop is open but they're donating a portion

of proceeds to a nonprofit that supports latino immigrants. a day without immigrants means employees at sam's morning glory wasn't serving up breakfast and lunch. >> i said if you want to we're closed i'm right there. they decided to close. >> reporter: by closing they were serving a hefty dose of social justice instead. it was one of many businesses standing in solidarity with the immigrant walkout. >> you don't realize the fear that they get up with in the morning, go to bed with at night. >> reporter: that increased fear is what brought a small group to thomas payne plaza. >> i wanted to have a reason to not attend school for a good cause. >> reporter: they vow today fight president trump's new immigration policies. >> policies like the immigrants are a forgotten population. a lot of people are impacted by immigrants but they don't realize it. >> reporter: a national day without immigrants is meant to highlight the value they bring

to the country. w whether if it's your restaurant or professor or attorney. >> not just what i'm capable of doing today. what i'm capable of doing ten years, 20 years down the road. >> reporter: back out here live. i asked the owner of sam's about losing money by closing today. she says it costs a lot more money to remain quiet. she says she sporupports immigrs because it's good business and hopes others will follow suit. reporting live, aundrea cline-thomas, nbc 10 news. making those choices. all right. new perspective tonight into the deadly prison takeover in delaware. this time, from an inmate. the prisoner filed a lawsuit with his version of what went down during that 18 hour standoff during which an officer was killed. nbc 10 investigative reporter mitch blocker has been digging into this suit and he's here to tell us what he's learned. >> this is one of our inside looks at the prisoner takeover.

he details what he says he witnessed as some prisoners coordinated an attack to take over part of the prison. he claims he was a hostage, along with two other prisoners. he says together they tried to protect the prison counselor from the rioting inmates. he writes, no more than ten inmates coordinated the attack. he says he witnessed three officers being savagely beaten while thigh weey were restraine. lieutenant steven floyd was killed in the remark. he describes the moment the task force took back building c. they stormed in using concussion grenades and numbers. m -- he claims since the riot inmates have been denied sheets, clothes and in some cases food. prison officials say all 120 inmates who were in building c at the time of the attack are considered suspects. they are not confirming whether or not he is one of them.

the prisoner takeover is being investigated. i'm mitch blocker. new details about a shooting involved police we brought you as breaking news last night at 11:00. the police say the suspect they shot had a stolen gun it was load when they pointed it at them. the suspect ran from four officers before pulling the gun. police shot that man at least twice. he is still in the hospital at this hour. a family in philadelphia is out of their house tonight following a fast moving fire that sent five people, including an infant to the hospital. it happened on south eding street. the man who lives here suffered burns and went to the hospital. three other children on the block and a neighbor had to be treated for smoke inhalation. because the blaze broke out in the early morning hours, firefighters made sure everyone was awake. >> i didn't even smell it. i didn't hear anything. people were screaming and outside. i felt the vibration of banging

on my door. >> investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the fire. the american red cross is helping 13 people in the neighborhood. a ruling today means the bridgegate scandal may not yet be over for new jersey governor chris christie. a judge ruling a criminal complaint against governor christie can go forward. the citizen's complaint aused the governor of failing to stop aides from deliberately creating traffic jams to punish a mayor who didn't endorse him. christie has denied any wrong doing in the 2013 incident. he is set to appear in court next month. the governor's press secretary released a statement about the decision saying the judge is violating the law, pure and simple. tonight, pennsylvania senator pat toomey is addressing several hot button issues, including a phone controversy through a town hall. we've been getting calls from viewers saying they are struggling to get ahold of senator toomey. over the last few weeks, he says people outside of pennsylvania are blocking the lines to his office so no one in our area can

call. senator toomey also addressed his push against legislation for sanctuary cities and supporting betsy devos for secretary of education. the family of late flyers founder ed schneider is looking to get into the medical marijuana business. pennsylvania will be accepting licenses from people who want to grow marijuana. the state with issue up to 12 licenses. the schneiders want to build their business on 14 acres near the bucks county border. they have partnered with a medical marijuana company to build the facility. workers are anxious to weigh in on the sugary drink tax. soda industry workers said they're taking a hit. they asked the council to amend or repeal the tax.

members of the council says it's too soon to make adjustments to the tax and they need more time to see the impact. the rides you take through uber or lyft are helping students. the school district announced it received more than $350,000. that's the first funding for the district from fees collected from ride sharing services. through a state law passed last year, the school district expects to get about $2 million from ride sharing fees. soon, every philadelphia student will have something to do after school. we can tell you that today the mayor kinney and the school's superintendent announced a new initiative. it's still in the planning stages, it will eventually put every student in philadelphia in an afterschool program. up next, this could be the solution for you if you hate traveling far to get to your child's sporting events. often parents have to do that every single day. the new plan in montgomery county that could bring a boom in sports business and some relief for parents. plus.

tearing down to build back up in south jersey. dozens of abandoned and neglected homes in colingswood are getting tlc. the houses will be gutted renovated and remodeled and sold. a new partnership between the courts the borough and st. joseph's carpenter's society is making it possible. neighbors say it's about time. >> i'm glad they're finally doing it. so glad. it's been an eye sore. >> it will preserve and maintain the values within the neighborhoods. >> any profits will reimburse

>> sheila allen sent us this home video. the fire department as you saw, they helped hide jake's dad in that fire truck. he's happy he got to meet a firefighter, but when the doors swung open, that hug right there. that says it all. beautiful. >> and at least word the little boy is still holding on to his dad. hasn't let go. >> can't blame him. >> it's always great to see the reunions. >> love seeing families get back together. let's turn to our weather. in manayunk workers heading home from work. penn's landing, another chilly night out there. we've got skaters on the ice, but it's going to feel like spring this weekend, glenn? >> it absolutely is. both days, temperatures way above average. no rain expected.

nothing like the wind that we've seen recently. a lot of you are going to love this weekend. we've got one more cold night before things start to change. you can see temperatures are in the 30s across most of the area right now. and they're going to be dropping into the 20s. it's 35 in mullica hill, pitman, clayton, voorhees, just a lot of places with very similar readings. that's what happens when you have a really windy day. 32 degrees in princeton. 33 in hopewell township. some of the coolest numbers. we were 53 yesterday. 39 was the high today. 45 tomorrow. and then look at this. over the weekend, 65 degrees. our average high is 44. we don't get to average highs in the 60s until april. so this weekend's going to feel like april.

now, the wind starting to diminish already. these areas that are blank are not even reporting gusts at all. 29 miles an hour in wilmington. 32 in coatesville. we did have gusts near 40 miles an hour during the day. the wind will be dying down tonight and much less of a wind tomorrow. we've got dry weather that looks like for at least another week. we're in a drought. so we could use a little bit of rain. but the temperatures, there we are in the 60s for both saturday and sunday. now parts of new england are in the way more serious drought. even severe to extreme. but all of our pennsylvania counties are in a moderate drought, along with a little bit of new jersey and northern delaware. so like i said, could use a little bit of that. not much wind tomorrow. look at these temperatures that we're starting off kind of chilly. 24 in fairmount.
