because of a police investigation near the station. >> sky force 10 was over the area a short time ago. police are serving a warrant near that station and that brought train service to a halt. nbc 10's brandon hudson is headed to the scene. we'll bring you any new developments as they come into us. closed for business, there were no cheese steaks or roast pork sandwiches served today. that's after thieves pulled off a tricky break in at john's roast pork. >> the crime forced it to close for the day. the owner tells nbc 10 it's also shown him the best of his community. nbc 10's rosemary connors joins us at john's roast pork in south philly. this was not your average break in? >> reporter: definitely not. this place is locked up like a vault. that didn't stop the thieves in this case. they got creative, breaking in through the vent, the silver vent on top of the roof. >> they got in through the

exhaust system. they shimmied down the shaft here. >> reporter: a small space for any burglar to squeeze through. it's a first for the owner. >> i can't imagine. it's all greasy up there. you know. it's so disgusting. >> reporter: to get everything out of here -- >> that's what i mean. it has to be -- at least two people. >> reporter: police dusted for prints where the crooks swiped the cash register with $3,500 inside. they stole surveillance equipment and $1,500 raised in a charity cup to benefit patients with leukemia. >> that's horrible. i'm sure people will donate to get that back. and more. >> reporter: the owner of pat's steaks stopped by to make a charity donation for the $1,500 lost and he says he's willing to help out the kitchen. >> if he needs me to come in to scoop out roast pork for him. >> were they planning to be open tomorrow? >> reporter: at 9:00 a.m.

as for who done it? >> i'm sure they eat here. i can't say. you know. i'm a sandwich maker, not a detective. >> reporter: i did some check ing with philadelphia police, they tell me they have not seen this kind of break in in any other restaurants in the city. as for that charity donation, he got another $1,500 from the electric factory concerts later this afternoon. as for the charity, it holds a special place in his heart. that part of the story will be coming up at 6:00. i'm rosemary connors, nbc 10 news. happening right now, a south philadelphia community is making its voice heard two days after the murder of a teenager. they were joined by police and councilman johnson on a safety walk this afternoon. the group hoping the walk will help raise concerns about gun violence in the area. the 17-year-old was shot in the

back wednesday afternoon. he later died at the hospital. police are still looking for his killer. take a look at this. windy today but the weekend is going to be a lot warmer. nbc 10 on the campus in radner. you can see the flag really dancing around today. the big changes are coming. i'm looking forward to them. we could be in for some record breaking warmth. >> bring it on. nbc 10's first alert meteorologist erika martin is tracking the warm up in your most accurate weather forecast. >> that's right. we are tracking a major warm up just in time for the upcoming weekend. a live look outside right now, however, we are already seeing a great look at the sun, so this is just a sign of things to come for the upcoming weekend. upper level clouds is all we're seeing right now. current temperature, 44. notice the shift in winds. westerlies at 12 miles per hour. that's really important because we're going to take this hour by hour. i'll show you the shift of the

colder air out. we pause this at 10:30 p.m., starting to see a shift there, southerly winds. we have a warm front approaching from the southwest. warmer air sliding into place just in time for the upcoming weekend when temperatures are expected to top out in the 60s. so a look at what to expect for this weekend, it looks like we'll see 65 on saturday and 66 on sunday. keep in mind april 25th, the normal high is 66. so this is definitely very impressive. temperatures will be about 15-20 degrees above normal. coming up, i do have your most accurate forecast, including your ten day on 10. back to you, keith. the father of a man who was killed inside a north philadelphia bar overnight is calling the shooter an animal and urging him to turn himself in. today police went door to door in north philadelphia asking people if they knew anything about the deadly shooting at monique's lounge. police tell us the suspect went

there about 1:30 and got into a fight with a man who works there before shooting him. >> he's an animal. he's not a human being that you would want to be with. no one i want to be with. the whole family is hurting very much. and we would like for him to turn himself in. >> the father said his son started working at monique's lounge a little more than two weeks ago. an update now to a deadly hit and run near the palmer park mall in north hampen county. a car the police picked up was not the one that was involved in the crash. the crash happened last wednesday night. a driver ran over a woman crossing route 248 and sped off. the victim was killed. police picked up a mazda 6 believed to be involved, but they've ruled the vehicle out. investigators tell us they're searching for a chevy impala. a former student is suing a bucks county boarding school at the center of a sexual abuse

scandal. the lawsuit against the solebury school and its athletic director was filed today. authorities say the offenses took place from the 1950s to 2005. the school is not commenting on the lawsuit. the new jersey forest service started doing controlled burns to help reduce the risk of wildfires. this is a look ahead towards spring. they started near strawberry fields. the controlled burns will continue through the end of march. before you head out to dinner, make sure your favorite restaurant hasn't closed. the parent company that owns and operates outback steakhouse, and bonefish grill said it closed dozens of locations because of poor sales. we made some calls and found out that two restaurants that are closing are in our area and both of them are in new jersey.

wildwater kingdom is getting ready for spring with a job fair tomorrow from 11:00 to 2:00 in the park's good time theater. the amusement park is looking to fill 3,000 jobs. job seekers should apply online before tomorrow's event. another setback today for the former revel casino. the property now named 10, will not be opening this weekend as planned. atlantic city officials say the new owner doesn't have the proper permits and licenses. t the casino was bought in 2015. the fight over philadelphia's new soda tax continues to bubble over. >> today city leaders tried to show how the extra money could pay for more than just preschool. as aundrea cline-thomas reports, many of those projects are now on hold. >> reporter: it's been six weeks, and for businesses the pain of the soda tax is

beginning to sink in. >> we went from paying $80 to for the box of syrup to $140. >> reporter: the soda tax continues to be collected, many of the projects it's expected to fund are on hold. >> the patchwork over here. patchwork over there behind us. >> reporter: more computer labs, community meeting rooms and better handicap accessibility are some of the upgrades the soda tax is supposed today pay for. >> people may want to come here. where can they do that? is there like a quiet space where you can go in with your computer? >> reporter: opposition has been fizzing over since the law passed last summer. businesses like more than just ice cream say fewer customers are choosing to pay $250 for a cup of soda. >> the beverage part is a big part of the money coming in. >> reporter: the fight is back in court. a judge will hear arguments starting in april. aundrea cline-thomas, nbc 10

news. in center city, lawyers gathered in front of the courthouse standing in solidarity against president trump. organizers said the president's executive actions are attacking fundamental human rights. lawyers need to defend their communities. nbc 10's randy gyllenhaal is live in center city today. coming up at 6:00, he'll tell you how protesters are planning on disrupting traffic and getting your attention. all right. so a pizza shop, a nail salon, and a dry cleaner. they're just some of the local stores robs across montgomery  county. coming up, nbc 10 has exclusive video from one of those break ins and new information on who police are looking for. plus, don't mess with us phillies fans. or their former players. tonight, a team legend has a few words for chris christie and his critical comments.

tonight, president trump is down south for a look at the newest creation from boeing. he attended the unveiling of the new 787 10 dream liner at a facility in south carolina. during remarks to employees, the president pledged that american workers will always win and that creating high quality jobs is his top focus. >> as your president, i'm going to do everything i can to unleash the power of the

american spirit. and to put our great people back to work. >> and for the event, the president travelled to his home in palm beach florida, the new dream liner will be delivered next year. today the senate vote today confirm scott pruitt as the next administrator of the environmental protection agency. he was approved in a 52-46 vote. this comes after an all night session on the senate floor by democrats hoping to delay the final vote. pruitt has been criticized for his past battles with the epa, including suing the agency multiple times. philadelphia is one of 34 cities and counties across the nation filing a legal brief against president trump's immigration executive order. that brief is challenging the order limiting travel from seven muslim majority countries. and calls for a continued hold on it. president trump says he'll issue a new executive order next week after a federal appeals court

blocked the original. joining us now is nbc news political director and meet inpreithe press moderator chuck todd. we saw push back, blame, what did you make of it? >> well, i think this was a president that wanted to take matters into his own hands. he didn't trust his own staff and his own aides to be able to push back on what he believes has been a slew of bad press he thinks has been unfair. i think the other motivation for him is he saw the russia story building into a bit of a feeding frenzy. if you look at the front pages the morning of the press conference, front pages after, short term he successfully changed the subject for a little while. which i think was his number one goal. he had another issue i don't think he has fixed. that is, the growing disillusionment of trump and how he managed the white house among

senate republicans. even a handful of house republicans. and his performance at that press conference did little to reassure those skeptical republicans on capitol hill. and it is a growing group. >> next week we're expected to see a new immigration executive order from the president after a federal appeals court blocked the original order earlier this month. as you know, so what can we expect out of this new order? >> i think you'll still expect lawsuits. the question is going to be is how narrow is this order. is it written, is it -- you know, the ninth circuit when they wouldn't lift the stay on the order, they did offer a bit of an outline of how to draw one up that could pass scrutiny of the courts. but i have to tell you, i still think looking at this thing, at some point, i think they're going to realize they're better off pursuing this in congress. where they would get overwhelming support for it. but i think trying to do this via just one branch of

into the 60s. love it. first alert meteorologist erika martin has all the details for your neighborhood. >> i love it that you say love it. it will be a fantastic weekend all around. right now, we are seeing a peek of the sunshine. we have more to come through the entire weekend. sunset at 5:39 p.m. this is a lovely look outside. now weather headlines include a high pressure system developing. also a warm front sliding from the southwest towards the northeast. you'll see the wind start to shift in just one moment i'll time it out for you hour by hour. the weekend includes unseasonably warm temperatures. 60 degree weekend for both saturday and sunday. next week above normal temperatures, and it will remain dry. at least through the middle to the late of the following week. satellite image notice there's not much going on. we have a 30 minute lapse, so we're not seeing much. upper level clouds, everything clearing out. that's due to a dome of high pressure just to the west of us. notice how it's creeping

eastward. that's what we want because that does mean it will be high and dry and certainly with that warm front it's going to be a lot warmer. a really nice weekend in the forecast. hour by hour forecast, there it is cold air out and here i'm going to pause it at 10:00 p.m. this is when we start to see a shift in those winds. southerly, of course. you all know that means warmer air sliding into place. so by tomorrow morning, at 7:30 a.m., we have a nice southwesterly flow. all of that warm air sliding right into the delaware valley. right now, however, temperatures are mainly in the 40s. we have vineland at 42. mount holly 43. philadelphia, 44. we topped out at 45 degrees. normal high is 44. and the record high, 68 set back in 1976. not a bad day all around. one degree above normal. overnight lows, mainly in the 20s and 30s. allentown, your expected overnight low 26. 20en 22. philadelphia 32. mount holly 30 is your expected

overnight low. coatesville, 28 for you. here is the deal. we do have this temperature trend for the weekend. that's going to be absolutely lovely. we'll see 60s on saturday and sunday. 65 on saturday. 66 on sunday. and we normally don't see 66 until april 25th. definitely a major treat. i would like to add, we have our draut lev drought level monitor. we have dry conditions for central new jersey, kent county, and a moderate drought including newcastle county. lehigh valley, bucks county and pa suburbs as well. something to keep in mind. we have rain on the approach. that's good news there. in the meantime, we will enjoy this really nice dry weekend. so the ten day on 10 includes temperatures topping out in the 60s. tracking showers that could get here by next wednesday. >> that weather is incredible. thank you so much. breaking news happening in center city. protesters are blocking traffic

on broad street. nbc 10's randy gyllenhaal is following it all from his aerial view. tell us what's happening down there. >> reporter: we are tracking two demonstrations that are making their way through center city during this rush hour. as you can see, this one they gathered near city hall about 45 minutes ago. in the last ten minutes they started moving north on broad street. these is a group of protesters who are trying to put pressure on the philadelphia police department, asking to stop the stop and frisk policy. they're concerned about donald trump's rhetoric about law and order. they have signs, no racemiisrac ungovernable. i spoke with an organizers of this group. they said they do intend to block traffic in some way. they're making their way north towards the vineland expressway. there is also a second

culinary arts and cosmetology. if you're looking for a new puppy, the next story is for you. the burlington county animal shelter in mount holly is offering puppies that were recently turned over by the puppy barn for adoption. the puppy barn closed last month. we told you about this, after a virus outbreak. all of the pets have been cleared so they are now ready and they are waiting for new homes. all right. you got to take a look at this. this is not snow. if you look hard enough, that's 70,000 snow geese. the birds migrated to the middle creek wild life area in lancaster county. snow free fields and ice free lakes led them north early. lots of people brought their cameras, phones. a nature photography made the trip up from virginia. >> this is number one, number

two for me. not a grbear, but this is good. >> they will head north to alaska, canada, and siberia. that's a crazy looking sight. >> so many of them, 70,000. we have good news to report while we're talking about animals about the run away goat in bucks county. that's taken social media by storm. >> the animal's owner has been found. new town township police officers took this picture with the missing goat and they put it on facebook to drum up views. they made a contest out of it to see who could post the best caption. the post was shared nearly 300 times. the rightful owner finally came forward and the wayward goat is back home safe and sound. we're keeping a close eye on breaking news happening in center city. >> i want to give you another live look where protesters are blocking traffic. this is on busy broad street during evening rush. we're going to keep following

back to that breaking news now on busy broad street in center city. randy gyllenhaal is watching this protest. where are they now? >> reporter: they have just passed the vine street expressway on north broad. they did not attempt to get on the highway. there is a large police presence here who blocked them from doing so. the group of a few dozen demonstrators is marching north on broad street. and this is a group that is specifically has complaints with the philadelphia police department. specifically about stop and frisk policies, asking for that to end. i spoke with an organizer about 45 minutes ago. they tell me they do intend to disrupt traffic. they have been doing just that. much of north broad has been closed. police are doing the roaming street closures. this is not the only demonstration you can expect to see over the next couple of hours. we're expecting a group of bicyclists over at the art

museum to ride through traffic in center city. unclear if they're going to meet up with this group or ride separately. there are two large demonstrations that will be underway in center city. this group heading north on north broad street. their complaint specifically against the philadelphia police department. >> randy gyllenhaal live for us. we're going to continue to keep our eye on this as the protest continued to move up north broad. now to this, police are looking for the gunman who shot two security guards at a south jersey vfw around 11:30 last night. both men expected to be okay. investigators say it appears the guards were trying to remove someone from the building when the shooting happened. in philadelphia, the search continues for the driver who dragged a police officer in germantown then sped off. it happened following a traffic stop last night. the officer was taken to the hospital with cuts and bruises. police are looking for a silver

wilmington, millville, dover air force base, atlantic city, wildwood also seeing a little shift there in those winds. they're also diminishing quite a bit. that's good news there. we have southwesterly winds sliding up. that means warmer air. i do have your most accurate weekend forecast coming up in just a bit. >> looking forward to that. only on 10 tonight, thieves breaking into small locally owned shops. >> police ain at least four montgomery towns are on the hunt for them. >> reporter: those men go behind the businesses and use a crow bar to pry into the back doors of businesses. they were here on wednesday. then they went next door to another business here in springfield township. after they left here, they went two towns over and did it again. >> in my case, it might be someone that just doesn't like me for some reason.

>> reporter: this owner says that's the only reason he think of. after 3:00 on christmas morning, the first time he was hit. >> this one seemed like more of a nuisance than anything. >> reporter: the guys came back wednesday morning. this time around 3:45. >> they had the same huge crow bar that's like, ridiculously -- i don't know, it looks like a commercial crow bar that someone in some sort of industrial capacity would have. >> reporter: a half hour before showing up here, police in springfield township say the men used that same crow bar to ply open the doors to a nail salon and dry cleaner. one crook has glasses, the other a slight limp. police say the men have hit multiple times in multiple towns since christmas. the latest crime spree was

insurance claims for lightning strike damage that never happened. prosecutors say mary guerra and sarah deputy collected more than $70,000 on nearly 20 claims. both women are facing charges of insurance fraud. burlington county, here is the reason this morning's commute on the new jersey turn pike was no fun for drivers. there were big back ups after a tractor trailer hit the overpass at mount laurel road near route 73. nbc 10 was there on the ground as crews worked to clean up the mess. two people in the truck were taken to the hospital. the crash happened at 4:00. west pots grove officials say they won't impose a medical marijuana growing facility in the township. the proposal calls for a 100,000 square foot building in stowe. owners need land development approval. mercer county, you'll have to wait longer to buy tobacco in trenton. new jersey's capital city has

before 11:00. police are now looking for the shooter. to a different murder case in wisconsin. it made international headlines after it was profiled in a netflix series. >> tonight on nbc 10, an exclusive interview with one of the men tasked with leading the investigation into steven avery. you may remember his story from the netflix show, making a murder. avery was wrongfully convicted of rape in 1985 and freed from prison. later he was convicted of murdering a young photographer. critics say fastbender manipulated him. >> it was seen by many as a false confession. do you see it as a false or real confession? >> a real confession. >> were you trying to extract a false confession from him? >> absolutely not. >> fast bender denies that --

the phillies are stepping up security at their spring training home. fans enter the field in clearwater, they now have to walk through metal detectors before their tickets are scanned. the added security is part of a major league baseball mandate stating all fans are subject to metal detection screenings. metal detectors or chris christie would have a hard time getting into a phillies games. >> more phillies are coming forward to defend their team after these comments. >> they're an awful team. they're an angry, bitter fan base. and it's not safe for civilized people to go to citizens bank part if you want to root for the other team. you got to believe what? you got to believe we're awful people. that's what you got to believe. >> come on. john clark joins us live from spring training in clearwater, florida. >> we have a legend weighing in on this right?

northeast. the winds will start to shift northwest to west and then southwesterly. warmer air unseasonably warm in time for the weekend. a spring-like weekend ahead. now the trend for next week is going to trend warm and dry through next week on the ten day on 10 we'll talk about when we can expect some rain showers. current temperatures, coatesville 36. trenton 43. philadelphia 44. the normal high is 44. today's high temperature 45. sunset was at 5:39 p.m. overall, a pretty great day. temperature difference, 24 hours, look at this, eight degrees warmer today in allentown than yesterday. seven in trenton, five in vineland. atlantic city, six degrees warmer. expect the numbers to be higher by tomorrow afternoon. tomorrow evening. here's why. a high pressure system sliding into play. we're not seeing much in the way of clouds. everything is high and dry. that's the story for the next several days. the better news is this cold air is out at 5:30 p.m.

pause this at 10:00 p.m. all of the warmer air is sliding into place by early tomorrow morning, it will be nice and warm. that is the pattern we like when we say warm. moving right across the delaware valley. the weekend high temperatures topping out in the upper 50s. lots of sunshine. that's for saturday. sunday, one degree warmer. saturday 65 in philadelphia and 66 on sunday. that nice kick up there, that one degree difference. overnight lows, however, trending in the 20s and 30s. allentown, 26. 30 for mount holly. philadelphia 32. and wilmington you're overnight low, 33 degrees. a little chilly but no worries. by tomorrow things will be a lot different. ten day on 10 brings us a mix of sun and clouds and that nice warm up with highs in the 60s saturday and sunday. monday it looks like we'll hit 50. a little bit of a bump down. plenty of sunshine there. we will trend dry through tuesday. a high of 52 and then back up

into the 60s on wednesday with showers making a come back. al from there we see 50s and 60s possibly showers next saturday. >> look at that weather. thank you. such a warm up. we have a video. they're dancing up a storm in happy valley tonight. penn state's thon is underway. this is video of last year's event. it's a 46 hour no sitting, no sleeping dance marathon. that raises money to fight childhood cancer. some 16,000 students are taking part. tonight's weather we've been talking about. this weekend it's going to make for a great time at the atlantic city rv and camping show. nbc 10 was there. some of the luxurious wheels rolled into town. more than 200 motor homes and travel trailers are on display. they range in place from $5,000 all the way up to $500,000. the show runs through sunday. check this out.
