eichel. tonight on "nbc10 news at 6," record warmth. philadelphia hits a new high for february. neighbors all over the city were outside to enjoy temperatures in the 70s. a small plane crash in the middle of a local golf course. we'll tell you where the single engine plane went down. hit and run investigation. tonight, a 2-year-old boy is back home after he was hit by a car next to a playground. this as police are still searching for the driver responsible. >> "nbc10 news" starts now. good evening. i'm denise nakano. another day with temperatures in the 60s and 70s in our area. thousands were outside taking it all in. take a look at this from ocean city. hundreds of beachgoers hit the

jersey shore town to enjoy the holiday weekend. from the sand to the slopes. here is a live look from camelback mountain resort where a lot of people wanted to ski and snow board despite high temperatures. incredible warmup. hard to believe it is winter. erika mar teen has your neighborhood forecast. >> there's still a lot of people outside right around center city. it's a gorgeous evening. gorgeous night, in fact. temperatures are still above normal. and really warm, mostly clear skies right now. you mentioned, yes, record-breaking temperatures for today across the delaware valley. philadelphia, philadelphia international airport, the record high temperature was 70 degrees. allentown 68 was your record high. reading 68, trenton 69 and wilmington your record high temperature for today 71. all around unseasonably warm to say the least. record breaking temperatures for many and we are actually

trending warm for tonight. a livt a cooldown but then another warmup another shot at 70s by the middle to the end of the week. right now, 66 degrees westerly. ten miles per hour. temperatures around philadelphia seeing lots of 60s westbound area at 64 area. andorra 63 for you. center city 66. i do have your ten-day on 10 coming up in a bit. see you then. no shortage of outdoor fun from the zoo to kelly drive and even here at the blue cross riverrink. the high temperatures drove thousands out to get some sunshine. nbc10's lauren mayk is live at penn's landing to tell us more about it. >> reporter: if you wanted to go ice skating in the summertime, this might be close as you can get. there is a pretty big youd out here tonight. no heavy coats needed. in some cases we're seeing t-shirts, even tank tops. you can throw out the calendar and enjoy this weather.

what do you think about the weather today? >> awesome. >> reporter: for maends jones and genevieve, their regular sunday drive took a spring-like turn today. >> it's nice not be blasted by wind and elements on you. >> reporter: today, it was shorts and t-shirts for them. while some opted for tank tops. for bare skin. watch them all go by and the only clue it's february might be the grass isn't green. the twins and kipperman kids could see it all from their perch above. >> like summer. >> reporter: dad alex points out it keeps them off the slopes this presidents' day weekend. >> typically we would like to go skiing but not this weekend. >> reporter: instead at riverrink, it's sunglasses and hats to keep out the rays rather than keep in the warmth. at the philadelphia zoo, it's board of directors.

>> we were going to go to the aquarium. when it was going to be 70 degrees, i wanted to be outside. >> reporter: she brought sean and miles to the zoo in sandals. >> it's gorgeous out here. i wanted to take full advantage and let my feet breathe. >> reporter: the warmth of the sun took some by surprise. >> we didn't think it would be this warm. >> leading this man to do shopping. this t-shirt did not leave the lous with you today? >> it did not. >> reporter: what were you wearing beforehand? >> a much thicker shirt. >> reporter: do you feel better now? >> yes. >> reporter: if you really, really want snow and ice, check it out. they have got some for you here at the blue cross riverrink. but you can enjoy it in a t-shirt. no boots, no hats, no scarves necessary. and you know, if you come over here, this is the area where folks are sitting around the fireplaces warming themselves. that is not happening tonight. i checked with the folks running the booth over there. they tell me they are selling a lot of ice cream today instead

of all those hot beverages to keep you warm. live in pen's landing, lauren maik. >> tonight in montgomery county, police still on the hunt for the driver who hit a 2-year-old boy and kept going. nbc10's aundrea cline-thomas is live in ambler with an update on the boy. >> reporter: i poke to his mom and i met him tonight, and he is doing well. he only has a few bumps and bruises. he lives further up this street. they said he took off, ran down the street, and he was trying to get to knight park. meet little torrin. his parents lost sight of him at home for a moment yesterday when he took off. his parents and grandmother tried chasing after him calling his name. just before 5:00 yesterday evening, the 2-year-old was hit by the an suv on south main street. the driver kept going.

>> i don't know why they left. like, my son is a person. he's not the speed bump or anything. like he's a person. and he matters like everybody else. >> reporter: in fact, out here live now, you see because of the nice weather, a lot of kids are still out here at the park. police say the driver might not even know that he hit the 2-year-old because of how small the 2-year-old is. police are looking for a black toyota 4runner. they don't have a distinct description of the driver other than the fact that he has white hair. they're hoping people will be on the lookout and can help them track him down. in ambler, aundrea cline-thomas, "nbc10 news." a wilmington hockey rink closed indefinitely because of a carbon monon i'd scare. a mom whose son was playing hockey yesterday tells nbc10 nine kids are sick.

on the rink website, it says it's closed because of a problem with the zamboni. drew smith spoke with the president of the skating club. here what he has to say at 11:00. tonight young people are working to send a message to their community. students from receivy west high school are creating signs promoting love and peace and justice. they plan to walk through town with them tomorrow in response to a pro-kkk flyer found friday in front of a home. to the jersey shore. fire crews battling a forest fire. fire is burning in the greenwood forest wildlife management area in ocean county. no homes or buildings are threatened. officials say drifting smoke forced the closure of nearby roads. in word what started the fire. next on "nbc10 news at 6," more than decade later and still no sign of them. the story of this local couple who went missing 12 years ago

today marks 12 years since danielle em bow and richard petrone disappeared without a trace. they were last seen leaving a bar on south street ride ing inhis pickup truck. the couple's cell phones and credit cards have never been used since that night and his truck has never been found. the fbi is offering a $50,000 reward for information in the case. nbc10 and center city dozens of people walked down the ben franklin parkway in support of the paris agreement. folks carrying signs that showed their concern about climate change and protecting the

planet. the paris agreement is a path between 200 countries pledging to cut greenhouse gases. new at 6:00, nbc news obtained memos from homeland security detailing how it could detain and deport undocumented immigrants. if approved, the memos would end the release of people captured at the borders while they await hearings, allow for expedited removal proceedings for detained immigrants in the u.s. for two years or less and allow authorities to prosecute undocumented immigrants hots pay smugglers to bring their children to the u.s. the memos were to be filed on friday but still not final. a pilot is recovering in the hospital after the plane he was flying crashed in northern new jersey. this is cell phone video taken after the crash in bayonne. you can see emergency crews taking a person away on a gurney. officials say the plane crashed into a parked car, trapping the pilot inside. no one else was on board at the

time. and the pilot is expected to be okay. to montgomery county. we're working to get the condition of the pilot who crashed this plane on a golf course in upper hanover. there's a small airport next to the course. so it's not unusual for planes to take off and land while people are playing. as you can see, most golfers didn't seem too distracted by the downed plane. live on "nbc10 news" today this morning, a commercial rocket lifted off from nasa's moon shot launch pad in florida this morning. >> liftoff of the falcon 9 to the space station. the dragon spacecraft is now on its way to the international space station with equipment and supplies. this particular launch pad has not been used since 2011. it was built for the apollo spacecraft that sent astronauts to the moon. up next on "nbc10 news," a ticket for life. ringling brothers and barnum and bailey circus is about to roll out of philadelphia for the

her mom purchased the lifetime ticket for free admission into the ringling brothers and barnum and bailey circus. tomorrow is the last time the circus will be in philadelphia. so the family decided to cash it in today. >> i've actually never been to the circus before although we had the ticket all of our life, it's been like my mom gave me the ticket and was like this is your ticket. you can use it one day when you're older. >> she says she's most looking forward to seeing the acrobats at today's show. now your nbc10 first alert weather. >> i'm meteorologist erika mar teen with your most accurate forecast. we are seeing mostly clear skies. high pressure system in control. if you recall earlier today, we saw a few clouds. everything did mix out. those temperatures climbed steadily into the 70s at philadelphia international airport. yes, we broke a record. satellite radar image locally, there's not much going on right now. you can see here again, remaining high and dry.

i'm not expecting any showers till tuesday into wednesday. i'll get to that in just one moment. otherwise, temperatures right now still in the 60s and upper 50s. today's record at philly international airport 670 degrees. old record 68 set back in 1948. sunset 5:42:00 p.m. and the normal 45. allentown at 60, trenton of 4, mount holly at 55. 66 for philadelphia. wilmington currently at 60 degrees. temperatures still warm. enjoy this evening with the westerly winds. they're calm right now. a little bit northwesterly for philadelphia. dover air base is calm at six miles per hour. all around, a pretty calm evening. and neighborhoods right now for the lehigh valley upper 50s to low 60s. wernsersville, sinking springs 59. reading currently at 60. these temperatures comfortable.

hello, i'm marshall harris. the flyers enter today three points out of a playoff spot but also fallen into sixth place meaning they have to climb over four other teams to get the wild ward. they're wrapping up a three-game western canada trip in vancouver tonight. they lost the first two games to calgary and edmonton. the road not kind to the flyers. they are 2-10-2. college basketball, temple playing the first of three straight home games. only four games left in the regular season hosting uconn this afternoon. mark williams nice pass to daniel dingell inside. bucket and the foul. dingell had 17. but the lead down to one with eight seconds left. jalen adams on the drive makes the basket to give uconn the leave. last gasp by austin comes up short. temple falls. steve donahue and quakers going for a fourth straight win at
